Quick Growth cycle Your Pugs hair, like most other dogs, has a growth cycle in which there are four stages. The growing faze, known as Anagen, is when there is active growth of the hair. Second is the Catagen stage, where the hair has reached its designated length and stops growing. Come to terms The first thing you have to do, in order to rationally deal with the shedding issue, is come to terms with it. Although there some steps and measures you can take to reduce the phenomena and its effects, there is no way to completely eliminate it while still having a Pug at home. Take care of the Fur Brushing is probably the number one action you can take, to reduce the number of hairs that are accumulating on your cloth, furniture, and floor. Assuming the rate and amount of hair your Pug is growing and shedding, the more you will remove actively, the less there will be in other places. The bonus is that when brushing, you are moving the dead hairs from the Exogen stage. What that means is the fur will be comprised of more young and healthy hairs and as such will also be softer and shinier. It is advised to brush your pug outside of your home, maybe in the park or an open area. If that is not possible do it in the bathroom or in the tub. Also, wear something which will be easy to clean. Routine The more you brush the less hair you will have to deal with. Two to three times a week should give you a noticeable improvement, but you can brush your Pug daily. Try to work it into your daily playtime routine and your fluffy one might even look forward to it. If you spring a treat into the routine it might even be better. Depth To make the brushing effective you have to brush the undercoat as well as the guard hairs. Make sure you really get in there. Personally, I prefer to give my supplements as supplements, but regardless of personal feeding preferences, if your Pug is healthy and eating a balanced diet, these pills may do some good to the skin and coat, but they will not stop the shedding. Keep it clean Clean skin will also help keep it healthy. In most cases, a dog living at home will not really NEED to take a bath, hardly ever. We tend to project our hygienic standards to our pets and if you share your house and even your bed with a dog, it is understandable but, a dog is still a dog. Most of them are concentrated enough that a few dabs may just be enough. Lucky for us Pug owners we can splurge on high-quality shampoos, they will last for a very long time. What about all the hair everywhere? If you can adopt a laid-back attitude towards the hair everywhere, your life will be easier, but as we know, we all have our limits and at some point some sooner than others you will have to do something about. Hair on the floor Wal to wall carpeting will certainly be challenging. Our puppy cultural protocol begins before the puppies arrive and continues throughout their stay at Dawson Creek. However, most importantly, socialization does not end at Dawson Creek for our puppies. We provide strategies and suggestions to help our customers continue the puppy socialization process at home where our Dawson Creek puppies can strive and flourish in their new homes. We would like to share with you a quick glance of what our puppy cultural protocol involves: From the moment of arrival, we begin touching and stroking our puppies as much as possible. Daily cuddle sessions begin during the puppies first stage of life. Days three through 16 are very important. During this stage we provide early neurological stimulation that includes placing the puppy in the palm of your hand and holding the puppy in a variety of positions. Daily cuddle sessions continue. A very exciting and precious time at Dawson Creek for us is the Transitional Period. During this period the puppies are two to three weeks old. The puppies began opening their eyes and moving around more frequently in the whelping box. The opening of their eyes and the toddling around are the first milestones that we record. Towards the end of the Transitional Period the puppies begin to move around with more stability. This is when we began providing the puppies with large squeaky crackle toys to get the startle -recover — curiosity exploration affect. Also, during this period we add a potty area to our whelping box, begin carrying the puppies to short visits to new rooms in the household, and allowing them to explore outside of the whelping box on a variety of textured quilts, blankets, and pads. During this stage the puppies are wormed for the first time and their toenails are clipped. As the puppies continue to grow stronger, they reach the Socialization Period. During this stage the puppies are approximately three to four weeks old. We continue daily cuddling, snuggling, and touching sessions. Also, new toys and sounds are being introduced on- a -daily- basis. The puppies continue to explore new rooms and areas of the house and begin having Short Pup visits with outside family members. During this stage the puppies are being introduced to water and mush. Socialization becomes a little more advanced at week five. The puppies are removed from the nursery and transferred to the weaning pin. Here they experience a variety of new toys, a potty area, crates, and a play pin. The play pin is full of tunnels, balls, toys, things to climb on, and variety of chew toys. During this time the outside world is viewed for the first time. This opens a new world of experiences with many out- door activities. The puppies motor skills have developed very well. Therefore, they are free to run, jump, and play with their siblings. Also, during this time the puppies are being exposed to new training experiences with a clicker. They are rewarded for good behavior such as coming when called, following, sitting on the grooming table, manding sitting with the bottom on the ground and focusing on the trainer. They receive their first visit from the vet and are receiving softened dog food mixed in with their mush. Snuggling, touching, and daily cuddling sessions continue daily. Socialization continues as the puppies move to weeks seven and eight. They are introduced to individual crates and their take home snuggle puppy. Also, the puppies are now taking potty breaks after meals, being exposed to very shallow water, and being introduced to a leash on a sniff and stroll adventure. Cuddling and snuggling session are still occurring daily. The puppies have now transitioned to dry dog food, been weaned from mom, and will receive another vet visit soon. As the puppies prepare to transition to their new homes Dawson Creek is gathering materials to send home with the new puppy parents where socialization will continue, and our puppies will thrive at their new homes. The shepherd would use his rod to break the leg of a wandering lamb. After binding the break, the shepherd would carry the lamb on his shoulders while the wound healed. If the lamb struggled and fought, it would quickly realize that the broken leg wouldn't allow it to flee. The lamb learned during the healing process that the shepherd could be trusted. The lamb needed the shepherd to provide food, transportation and protection. Once the wound was completely healed, the lamb was fiercely loyal to the shepherd and wouldn't stray from the shepherd's leading. A few years ago a news story broke about Shrek the sheep. Shrek was a Merino sheep who lived in New Zealand. Shrek became famous because he managed to avoid being captured and shorn for six years. His wool continued to grow and thicken, and his eyes were eventually hidden behind the thick coat. Shrek dodged the sheering by hiding in caves and running from his master. Once Shrek was finally captured and shorn, he carried 60 pounds of wool on his body, nearly six times the average amount. The wool on Shrek's body was enough to produce 20 men's dress suits. It's easy to see why the Bible compares us to sheep. We often follow the crowd, even when it leads to our own demise. We stray from the shepherd who loves us and seeks to protect us. We don't appreciate when God disciplines us. But if we surrender to him we learn through the discipline that God can be trusted. We are often like Shrek the sheep as well. We hide from God, clinging to the things that need to be shorn from us. We become weighed down with the burdens God could easily remove from us. The Bible also shares with us that God anointed his people with oil just as the shepherds anointed the heads of their sheep with oil. This wasn't just a symbolic ritual. Sheep are easy targets for flies, lice and ticks. A sheep that was not covered in oil on his head could easily become the victim of infestations of these pests. However, it wasn't just a nuisance. Bugs would crawl through the ear canal of the unoiled sheep and nest in its brain, eating away at it. The pain from the bugs would be so severe on the sheep that the sheep would bang his skull on rocks and against trees to ease his suffering. The sheep could break his own skull seeking relief from the brain-eating parasites. When God offers to anoint us with his oil, it means he offers us protection from the parasites of this world that seek to eat away at us. If we hide in caves, or jump off the proverbial cliffs of this world, dodging his anointing and protection, we may become victims of this world. We may become so filled with pain that we hit our heads against rocks to ease our suffering. God seeks to shepherd us through this life. Oftentimes that is through discipline, sheering or anointing. But it is always with love, and it is always with our best interest at heart. He is our shepherd. He can be trusted when we surrender to his leading.
