Exercise Medium Activity Bernedoodles are moderately active and will love daily walks. They enjoy playing fetch and spending time with you. This breed tends to wander and hunt, so a fenced-in yard is important. They can adapt to urban or rural settings provided there is time and space for daily exercise. This breed requires a lot of human interaction, so leaving him alone outside for long periods will not work for the Bernedoodle. We recommend at least an hour of exercise every day. The Premier F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a low- to mostly nonshedding we use standard poodles that do not carry the improper coat alleles and Bernese mountain dogs that have thick wavy curly coats.If you want a guarantee on non shedding, then you should try to select an F1b or F1bb bernedoodle. Both look amazingly similar to the F1 standard bernedoodles but maybe a little smaller. They really love it all as long as you're a part of it. They are so loyal to the family. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. They are not nervous nor hyper but will need some off leash time where they can really stretch their legs and run. The old motto "a tired puppy is a good puppy" always prevails! Just make sure they have a lot of fresh water and a cool spot to cool off afterward. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Although we do take deposits on a first come, first pick basis, we will know the puppies well, their personalities, and can help select a puppy that best fits your lifestyle and what you are looking for. Be very cautious when purchasing a purebred or bernedoodle without doing your due diligence as the puppies will always be cute, but will exhibit the personalities of the bloodline used later in life.Therefore, use a reptutable breeder that has invested in the dogs they use for their breeding programs and that raise them as their own family members. They should be able to produce their pedigrees as well, and should have both parents on site so you can see how they react to you. We are very Type A when it comes to the quality of dogs which makes it more difficult to give referrals. We are always going to be biased and believe that the wait for a Premier Bernedoodle is worth it and you'll be very happy you did! Also you can visit your local humane society and help rescue a dog at the shelter.If you have young kids be sure to get a younger dog from the shelter that can adapt to your family. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding.We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. Yes we have done a lot of the hard work the first 8 weeks as we do extensive early neurological stimulation bio-sensor and Puppy Culture program, along with starting crate training and housebreaking, BUT, they are puppies and will need your undivided attention for the next weeks as they work towards being completely housebroken and earning more privileges. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. Frenchies are social pack animals Dogs are descendants of wolves, an animal known for their pack mentality. During the 10 days that the puppy stayed with us, I actually reduced the number of walks that I took Claude on. From the moment they woke up in the morning they would start to be active. They would play fight, chew at each other, chase, and run. French Bulldogs are good in pairs as they will play and exercise each other far more than you could ever do. They will keep each other occupied and active, meaning you might not have to spend as much time making sure your one dog gets the exercise he or she needs. If you live alone, have family and work commitments, and spend periods outside the home away from your dog then I recommend you have a pair to keep each other company. Do French Bulldogs get lonely? French Bulldogs do get lonely. He will be excited at first, but then then for about an hour he will tend to mope about. But the bottom line is, Frenchies are social companion dogs, and do get very lonely. Just another reason why French bulldog need a companion in the form a second dog. There are a lot of factors you need to consider before buying a second dog. Her and Claude get on like a house on fire for the majority of the time apart from when around food which I will come onto in a moment. But it might not always be that way. When you introduce a second French Bulldog into your home, you need to make sure that you initially take things very slow. Make sure that the first meeting between the two takes place on neutral ground on a long walk away from the home. You might have to give them both their own space if you feel there is the potential for aggressive behaviour. Resource guarding: this can apply to their bed, their owners, and almost always the food. Frenchies can be very protective of these aspects so all are a potential flashpoint. Look out for raised hackles, teeth-baring, and ears back. Continue to take it slow: above all, continue to take things slow. Some dogs will become stressed when a new rival turns up in the home so continue to take the introduction slow over the first 7 days. Naturally the puppy was inquisitive towards our cat, but a few hisses and swipes later, the puppy knew her place. We made sure to keep our cats food and bed up high so she had her own space to get away from the excitable pair of French Bulldogs. Occasional aggression Whilst most of the time the play between the pair of Frenchies was good-natured, there did come certain points where Claude had had enough. The main flashpoint we found though was around food. This led to teeth showing, growling, and aggression. We had to closely monitor this as the puppy was still being fed three times a day see feeding schedule we kept feeding areas separate sometimes. Be prepared to have the occasional aggression between the two, particularly in the first couple of weeks as they start to learn the boundaries between each other. Jealousy One of the funniest aspects we found when having 2 French Bulldogs in our home was jealousy. We found that Claude would get jealous and try to squeeze his way between my wife and the puppy. Food, insurance, and vet bills We were able to give the puppy back at the end of her 10 day stay, but if we did decide to own a pair of Frenchies, the food and vet bills will of course, double. Poop and pee Talking of doubling-up… the dreaded poop and pee scenario. And that was on top of the poop that Claude was leaving in his fenced off garden area. I think this is the worst part about getting a second French Bulldog. I can cope well with pretty much the rest, but the double amount of poop did start to get quite frustrating. Copying negative traits We like to think we have Claude quite well trained. But once the puppy was in our house, they teamed up to become monsters! I am being a little tongue in cheek here, but genuinely, they wrecked our garden. Claude is usually just an occasional digger. I had to stop them digging holes in the lawn countless times. I can only assume that whilst French bulldogs are good in pairs in the main, they will act as tag team to possibly do more naughty things. Either way, it was quite annoying! Conclusion When the puppy finally left us to go back to her owners, Claude did act a little lonely and sad looking for about 2 days. My wife and I were wracked with guilt, so spent lots of time giving him attention to try and take his mind off things. We are now seriously considering getting a second Frenchie to act as a companion for Claude. If and when we make that decision to get a companion dog for Claude, you will be the first to know and see about it so keep coming back to the blog! Urgent Dogs Shadow - Exeter This handsome lad is 3 year old Shadow who is a sable, short coated, neutered boy. He is vaccinated and microchipped. Shadow is a lovely friendly boy who gave our volunteer a very warm welcome when she visited. He was very soppy, loves attention and is especially fond of women and gave her lots of kisses. He is used to and very good with children. When he meets other dogs he just wants to play and backs away from any aggression but we don't know about cats. Shadow even loves the vet! In the home he is very calm and quiet and can be left for a few hours without stress or damage to the house. Shadow is good on the halti but pulls a bit on a lead. Off lead he has exceleent recall and knows all his commands like sit, paw and down. Shadow has hip dysplasia and had his right hip joint replaced in June .He does have hip dysplasia in his other hip as well but not as bad and it does not cause him any pain or problems.
