This type of tail is commonly seen in many German Shepherd mixes. With all that in mind, puppies with sickle tails are not allowed to participate in dog shows as they are not purebred dogs. Straight Tail A straight tail in German Shepherds is a tail that is not as thick as a natural tail and does not curve at the end — it is completely straight. Well, it is not an unhealthy tail, it just indicates that there may be other breeds in the mix. For example, a Belgian Malinois German Shepherd mix is most likely to inherit a straight tail that is on the thinner side. The straight tail is set high, but it does not curve as a natural tail does. As well, depending on the breed line your GSD puppy comes from, it can take anywhere from 18 months to 36 months to fully mature. As well, the breed line can influence the time to maturity, with the East German and Czech lines taking the longest in general to mature. Alternately, it could be that your puppy just comes from a breed line that takes longer to mature and you have a bit longer to wait before that fluffy, bushy tail fully grows in. The puppy coat is much softer and fluffier. It is also single-layer and is missing the second insulating under-layer these dogs grow as adults. The puppy coat will start to shed out around the four to the six-month mark. The shedding out period signals the start of the adult coat growing in. The adult German Shepherd coat is double layer. There is a longer, coarse, water-resistant outer layer that ranges from medium to long. Then there is the insulating, soft inner layer that lays close to the skin. However, this whole process can take some time and depend in size and breed line, as we emphasized here earlier. This often happens at the changing of the seasons. This is not anything to worry about. Unlike some breeds, they carry it low naturally, and an agitated, swishing tail is not ideal. While they will love a leisurely walk around the block, they will also need something a little bit more intensive to really get their blood flowing. Even just throwing a ball around in the backyard so the dog can get some sprints in will be enough to help get some of that excess energy out. A typical recommendation is for a Goberian to get at least an hour of exercise every day, if not more. Instead, a couple of half-hour sessions will be good as well! Just a Goberian doing some exercise. Remember that grooming does not necessarily mean shaving, even though it may seem tempting, thanks to all their shedding! However, shaving a double coated dog can actually make shedding worse. In fact, a Goberian should never be shaved except in cases of medical necessity. One that is a bit more coarse and thick on the outside, and the inner layer, which is more soft and downy. Having a double coat actually provides protection from sun damage as well as protection from extreme cold and heat. I think most of the time we see a pretty even mix between the two breeds, but at times she might show more Golden traits. This probably comes from her Husky side. We can take a look at how our three Goberian dog owners tire their dogs out. High [exercise needs] … very high. He is the mix of two very active breeds and requires roughly miles per day. Thankfully, he is a very social dog and can get a large amount of his energy out at the dog park. In addition, he loves to be offleash in Central Park. His recall is temperamental. He displays the husky stubbornness every now and then. We are able to stick to a good, regular routine with his exercise fortunately as his dad loves outdoor time. Unsurprisingly he enjoys 7 — 9 miles over 3 walks on an average day, more at weekends if we head out to countryside, though I think he would be fine with less. No looking back! However, each Goberian will have different levels of shedding, something which is emphasised by our Goberian contributors. Surprisingly, he sheds far less that his purebred parents. For these two to three months of the year the shedding is a mess and covers everything in sight with her white undercoat fur. By sticking to a grooming regime, you can regularly remove dead hair from their coat. We do use a professional groomer every 8 weeks, but more to check nails and hygiene trim. Are Goberian Hard To Train? Siberian Huskies can be a little trickier. With an independent streak, some Siberian Huskies can prove difficult to train. Goberians are likely to be smart dogs but they could also inherit this stubborn streak from their Husky parent. They are extremely intelligent. Not hard to teach them commands, however they are not extremely food motivated and tend to be a bit stubborn. If you find toys or balls to get his interest, you are in the clear. The largest challenge has been walk training. They are truly built to pull, so it takes some time to teach them how to walk side by side as companions. He is smart. Super smart. And equally as stubborn! Teaching all the early basics was straight forward and he was potty trained in the first week at home. I think with the right training method and lots of patience you could teach them almost anything. Kona konathegoldenhusky required time to adapt to potty training. It was actually pretty easy! She is an extremely smart dog so she was able to quickly pick up on most things. Kona is also very food-motivated, which definitely made the training easier. I think the hardest part of her training was the potty training. Golden Retrievers are perhaps the quintessential family dog thanks to their goofy but loving personalities. Siberian Huskies are active dogs that like to be around their owners. Therefore, Goberians are perfectly-suited to active, young families. Extremely [family friendly]. Loves children and babies and is very delicate. He once passed a toddler and made sure to give them a gentle kiss on the face as he passed by. As with all breeds early introduction and setting boundaries plays a major part and he now sees everyone as a potential playmate, probably a bit too trusting at times! Kona is a very loving and social dog, but is also extremely loyal and protective. I think the Golden Husky breed combines excellent traits from both breeds that can lead to a great family dog.
