Repeat until he learns to obey the first time you give the cue. Dogs have poor short-term memory and will typically forget an experience in 2 minutes, as discovered in this experiment. However, dogs can recall your training commands through associative memory, which means they remember based on associations and not memories. Field Labradors california chocolate labrador puppies Due to the many challenges at great distances, these dogs need to be fast, agile, and SMART. They are bred to compete in Field Trials. These are events where up to four birds, one at a time, are thrown and shot before the dog is released to retrieve. Many retrieves exceed yards, some of which are long challenging water retrieves. In addition, the trial includes blind retrieves that require precise handling to keep the dog in a straight line to the hidden bird at distances of up to , sometimes yards. On a blind retrieve, the dog must not break into a hunt, but rely on hand signals and whistle blows to find the downed bird. Because of the complexity and difficulty of these trials, breeding dogs must have great marking ability, athleticism, intelligence, retrieving desire and be excellent water dogs. As a result, these dogs are often leaner built, with long legs and a lot of energy, but completely trainable, owing to their quite amazing intellect. At yards out, what are you shooting the bird with, anyway? This idea lead to the development of the hunt tests. The hunt tests put greater emphasis on steadiness and honoring which are important for a good duck dog. The marks and blinds were also decreased to realistic distances which do not exceed yards Hunting Labradors Also, dogs that "hunt" on blind marks are not usually judged harshly. As these Labs are generally owned by people who may only hunt about 30 days a year, these dogs spend the rest of their days as a family dog. Therefore, Hunting Labrador breeders breed dogs for hunting ability, a calm demeanor, good looks, and intelligence. The resulting dogs are stockier than the Field trial Labs, but not as heavy as the Show Labradors. They also sport a moderately blocky head, with legs in proportion to their body, and a disposition that will allow them to hunt in the morning, then lie down in front of the fireplace at night. These qualities have caused many to term the Hunting Lab as the "classic" Labrador. Because for generations and generations, these dogs have been bred with only one thing in mind - appearance. This girl is currently super scared of new things and will need a lot of work to grow her confidence. Willow is a 2 year old, female Golden Retriever. She weighs 59 Pounds but looks way smaller and compact. She will be spayed, vaccinated and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. Willow does have a serious medical issue. She has a higher level heart murmur. She will need a family that can afford cardiology visits and likely medication for life. This is not fixable, it is something that needs to be managed throughout her life. Currently you would never know there is anything wrong with her health. If you do not have serious funding for vet care please do not apply to adopt her. She needs a home capable of supporting her through this for life. She is very shy at first and startles easily with loud noises. If you give her a few hours she becomes your shadow. She loves to cuddle up with you and get all the pets. She is doing great with other dogs and another confident dog in the house really helps her. We do not know how she would do with cats. She is not fostered with kids but did great at the vet with children loving on her. She does need the kids to give her space for the first few days while she adjusts. Willow is doing great with her training so far. Shes potty trained and crate trained. She will go in her crate on her own and relax if you leave the door open. Shes great in the car and does well on the leash. She has a medium energy level currently. When she settles in she gets more playful and excited but also has a lot of relaxed cuddle times. She loves you to be petting and touching her at all times. She likes running around the yard and is starting to play with toys. Due to her shy nature and her heart issues we are requiring a fenced yard for her. So far we have not seen any issues with her sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or people. Goldens are just like other dogs. They need training, exercise and socialization. There seems to be a false narrative that they are instantly easy perfect dogs and that is just not true. Every dog needs their owner to support them with the things listed above. They also typically have a high energy level until they get a little older. Proper exercise is crucial.
