Despite how fast and frenetic your Frenchie runs like crazy, they will rarely injury themselves as they seem to know the dimensions of their body and the space around them. There are also people more educated than me about dogs who have written about this interesting behavior. So, all we can do is make the assumptions as outlined in this post, and they make a lot of sense to me. Over time infusions of some other breeds were added to target smaller sizes and more consistent, lower maintenance coats. The breed then became known as the Australian Labradoodle. They can get along well in homes with other pets and even with young children, but remember that they can be quite energetic and can grow quite large. Are f2b Labradoodles Hypoallergenic? The term hypoallergenic can be quite misleading. All dogs have the allergens that can trigger an allergic reaction, but rather than in their fur, the allergens are found in their dander, saliva, and even urine. So why does a dog like the Poodle tend to trigger allergies less than a Lab? Poodle fur is low shedding. And, the very tight curls or cords of their fur will catch any saliva-coated hair ir dander that does shed. This will trap the allergens in their coat, which can form painful knots and increase grooming needs, but will lower the amount of allergens around your home. F2b Labradoodles are more likely to inherit Poodle traits, like tightly curled fur and low shedding coats. So, an f2b Labradoodle might not trigger your allergies so much, and may be better than a Labradoodle with more Labrador DNA. However, because curly fur will trap dander and fur that sheds, you will still need to come into contact with it when grooming, and Poodle fur needs much more grooming than straight fur. Not all dogs will trigger allergies, even dogs of the same breed. Another tip is to let someone else in the house, someone without allergies, do the grooming. An f2b Doodle has been backcrossed to a Poodle, but an f2 Doodle has not. This means they often express more Poodle traits in their appearance and temperament. In contract, an f1 Doodle has two purebred parents. It is a first generation mix. So, it will have equal amounts of Labrador and Poodle influence. This means that f1 Labradoodles can look very different from one another — even those from the same litter. And, they are much more likely to have the high shedding double coat of the Labrador. Because of their various backgrounds, we rarely have any medical or ownership history on them. Whether it's a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, or blizzard, it's critical to be prepared and have a plan in place. Unfortunately, pets are sometimes unintentionally left out of their owners' disaster preparedness plans which makes it difficult to know what to do with them during an emergency. Luckily, you can plan ahead for your pets using these tips: Listen to your veterinarian Make sure your pet wears a collar with up to date information on it, get them microchipped, and have them vaccinated. These recommendations will come in handy during a disaster and help you avoid any potential pitfalls, such as being unable to get into a shelter with an unvaccinated pet or losing them during an evacuation. If possible, take your pet's medical records with you and attach their rabies tag to their collar. Find out which shelters allow pets Do some research into where you can safely evacuate with your pet during a state of emergency before a disaster occurs. Your local police department can typically give you this information. If not, they'll likely be able to point you in the direction of someone who can. Though unfortunate, it is not true that hotels must accept pets during evacuations, so please keep that in mind while planning ahead. Prepare a pet disaster kit In a suitcase or other easily movable storage container, pack food and water bowls, a manual can opener, two weeks' worth of canned food and bottled water per pet, plastic poop bags for dogs , litter and a small litter box for cats , and two weeks' worth of any medications your pet may need. The Australian Labradoodle is an athletic, graceful dog with a compact build, and has a well developed motor system. The Labradoodle loves company, but can also on their own for several hours. Weight; kilo The Coat The Australian Labradoodle has a non shedding coat that doesn't smell like so many other dogcoats and is allergy friendly. Coats can be wavy fleece or curly wool and in either case they are soft and silky. These dogs don't have an undercoat. A Labradoodle does not shed hair, but of course it does loose hair. This is old "dead" hair that gets replaced by new hair. Instead of shedding, this old hair needs to be removed by brushing it regularly. One can compare it to hairloss in people. All Labradoodles loose their old hair at least once in their life; between the age of 8 and 14 months all puppyhair is replaced by adult hair. The puppyhair needs to be brushed out thoroughly. Some people prefer their puppies to be shaved or trimmed very short at this point in time. When this is all over, it suffices to brush the dog twice a month. The Australian Labradoodle can have two types of coat; - the wool coat. This coat resembles the poodle coat with a slightly less tight curl. A labradoodle with a woolcoat can be trimmed or shaved. This coat is wavy and requires less maintenance. However, it can be trimmed if so desired, but it is not really necessary. In new generations an occasional relapse sometimes occurs in the non shedding property of the Labradoodle coat. These dogs then do shed and will never be used as breeding dogs. Needless to say, our aim is to continue to refine and perfect the breed. Colour The Australian Labradoodle comes in many different colours. Although the Labradoodle is supposed to be of one solid colour all over, it sometimes happens that paws are of a lighter shade. Possible colours are; different shades of white and cream, apricot, brown cafe or chocolate silver and black. A silver coloured Labradoodle is always born black. History In a blind woman was looking for an assistance dog that would not aggravate her husbands allergies. In Australia a poodle and a labrador were crossed for this purpose, in order to combine the best properties of each breed. The initial results were very promising and a breeding programme was developed to further refine and perfect the "new" breed. After many years of successful breeding, multigenerational Australian Labradoodles are now bred all over the world. A multigen Australian Labradoodle is a cross between labradoodles instead of the initial cross between poodles and labradors. Therefore, be aware when you consider buying a labradoodle, however attractive the offer may seem at first sight!!! My love and passion for the Australian Labradoodle is not the result of an allergy issue. By chance I came into contact with this breed years ago. The Australian Labradoodle is a very people oriented dog. To give an example; I went with my puppy to puppy training and instead of playing with all the other puppies, my Labradoodle first went to greet the other dog owners. These dogs have really stolen my heart. The Australian Labradoodle was originally ment to work as a therapy dog. For example making contact with autistic people, because they are so human-oriented and also seek eye contact. Because of their hypoallergenic coat they are a great alternative for people who are allergic to dogs. The Australian Labradoodle is a sensitive dog. Look in them in the eyes. That is why the Australian Labradoodle is not suitable for little companionship; they love good company around them. Attention, challenges like games and long walks are really necessary. They are certainly not kennel dogs. They need a loving home and lots of love from their owner s. While they'll get playful streaks, their exercise needs are on the low end of the scale. These dogs aren't much for outdoor adventures they don't fare well in extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold. A daily walk or about 30 minutes of exercise a day should suit their needs, Burch says. Because they bond with their family, they'll do best in a home where they get plenty of attention and have some dedicated playtime with interactive toys and puzzle games. It's also a good idea to outfit your house with doggy stairs or a ramp to help them climb up on your couch. It'll keep these tiny puppers from injuring their joints from jumping on and off furniture. Care These darling dogs do need regular grooming and a good teeth brushing routine to keep them in tip-top shape, says Pam Nichols, DVM, president of the American Animal Hospital Association. Grooming will depend on what kind of coat your Pomapoo has, but generally speaking you'll want to plan on brushing your dog on a daily basis; Pomapoos have thick coats that can mat easily. On the plus side, Pomapoos with poodle-like coats tend to be allergy-friendly. But those curls do require a lot of TLC—and the daily brushing can stave off matting. Pomeranians, on the flip side, have soft, dense undercoats and long, straight outer coats. And while they look high-maintenance, brushing can be an easy task because the pups are so small. As with other poodle mixes, consistent trips to the groomer every 6—8 weeks for a Pomapoo haircut should keep your dog's coat looking and feeling good and make it easier to manage between grooming appointments. As with all breeds, exercise patience and use positive reinforcement during training. These tiny dogs have short little legs and don't require a ton of exercise a nice walk around the neighborhood plus some playtime will suffice. Be mindful that Pomapoos can develop a cough during exercise or strenuous activity that is associated with tracheal collapse , which occurs when the cartilaginous rings of the trachea weaken, Nichols says. Health The Pomapoo lifespan is 12—15 years, and this mixed breed tends to be healthy. But like all breeds, they can be disproportionately affected by some health problems. Pomapoos are prone to luxating patellas , or dislocated kneecaps, which is something that's inherited from both the toy poodle and Pomeranian parents, Burch says. Epilepsy is also prevalent in Pomapoos, Burch says, and the disorder that causes seizures often requires long-term medication. Also, as Pomapoos age, they are prone to developing cataracts , which can eventually lead to vision loss , Burch says. It's important to make sure you're bringing home a healthy, ethically bred Pomapoo. Over the last 20 years, ownership of Poms has increased substantially, making the breed one of the most popular in the United States. Pomeranians have a narrow muzzle, small face, and small ears that sit high on the head and stand up straight. Toy Poodles have longer and more pointed muzzles with small faces, and the ears are long and flop along the side of the head. So your Toy Pomapoo full grown will be anywhere from 6 to 10 inches high and 3 to 9 pounds. Basically, your pup will be a toy sized one, just like its parents. A Teacup Pomapoo is a small version of the Pomapoo. Bred from runts of the litter or by mixing another smaller breed. They are incredibly cute and portable, but we recommend you avoid these exceptionally tiny varieties. Both teacup Poodles and teacup Pomeranians come with a lot of health issues, not just potential temperament problems. Tiny dogs can act more aggressively than larger ones. But socialization will help to reduce the chances of this. So what does the Pomapoo coat look like? Well, it really can resemble that of the Pom or the Poodle, or you might see a mixture. The Pomeranian although usually tan, comes in a lot of colors. As does the Poodle. Your pup could potentially have any of these, or a cute mixture! The Pomeranian has a soft undercoat covered by more textured hair, and it has a remarkable fluff to it. The Toy Poodle has a thick, dense, and curly coat that is often kept trimmed close to the body. Poodles are famously low shedding. Unfortunately, the cute little Pomapoo is likely to also be a shedder. And they are not hypoallergenic. Grooming and Haircuts Regardless of which parent your Pomapoo dog takes after, you will need to invest in some grooming. Most of the dogs will have a hybrid coat that requires brushing with a slicker brush if the hair is more curly and a pin brush if it is straight. Brushing every day is wise. Additionally, you should think about a Pomapoo haircut every few months to reduce some of the grooming and shedding headaches. If they are a second generation mix from Pomapoo parents, then they need to both be checked for all of them. With older dogs you may or may not have a history to go on. They could have come from a marriage breakdown or the sad departure of an owner, or been rejected due to temperament issues. Pomapoo Puppies Finding a designer dog breeder is not difficult, but you do need to make sure that you find a reputable one. Before committing to a pup, make sure any Pomapoo breeders you consider can supply the full veterinary records for the mother and father. A lineage should be supplied as well, and ideally, the breeder should be more than happy to supply DNA test records. Typically the answer will be no. If you live in a hot country, then during the summer times, it might be worth considering to give them a trim. Not a shave! Just a light trim to help stop their bodies from over heating. The fur coat, actually protects their skin from sun burn, and helps to prevent it from drying out, which can cause skin conditions. Clean up the hair around the dogs face, in particular around the eyes, if it has bushy eyebrows, and around the muzzle. It is best to look at reducing the length of the fur in areas that can could cause health problems or discomfort, if the fur was to become clumped up and mattered. How to Best Control Shedding? Straight haired labradoodles shed a lot more than any other labradoodles. As tempting as it may be to shave your furry companion to help counter shedding. It nonetheless remains inadvisable and should be avoided. It can be lessened however. Just as we humans shed hair, so will a healthy and happy dog. Throughout the year, your pooch will continue to shed hair, more so as the weather warms up and their winter coat falls out. To counter this, get in the habit of giving your dog regular grooming. A little bit of brushing can go a long way. It removes loose hair, and helps to re-affirm the bond between you and your dog, as they enjoy the attention and can even find the grooming to be relaxing. Bathing your dog should be kept to a minimum as the shampoos and warm water can lead to dry skin and other skin conditions. Instead take your dog for swims or use lukewarm water to rinse off their coats. The most important thing to remember is to keep your dog in a comfortable environment, as stress can cause a dog to shed even more. A good diet helps to promote stronger hair follicles and a shinny coat, that can help reduce shedding. Some owners later discover that they are allergic to straight haired labradoodles. While it may be tempting to shave off their fur, in an attempt to eliminate the allergic reactions. This should never be done! Allergies are not triggered by dog fur. They are caused by pet dander — skin particles that are shed by the dog all year long. By shaving the fur off, the owner is actually making things worse for themselves. Bathing your dog can be effected by many different factors and can be very situational. You may need to bath them more frequently for medical reasons, or because of what they have decided to roll in. Generally speaking, bathing your labradoodle should be more infrequent. Over bathing your dog can strip its fur of natural oils that help to protect their skin and strengthen their hair. Ideally, you should limit proper bathes to when they start to smell a little, or if you need to remove matter from their fur. If they are just dirty with dust and mud, use lukewarm water or a running hose to wash away the dirt. Alternatively encourage them to swim in a body of water such as a river or at the beach while under your supervision. As a precautionary measure you can get a life jacket for your labradoodle. When you do need to give them a proper bath, use a mild oatmeal or coconut based dog shampoo. It will strip away some of the oils from their coat, but these types of shampoos will help to keep the skin moisturized. Over bathing can lead to skin irritations that can be itchy and uncomfortable. Dogs do not need to have baths as much as humans need to. How to Watch Out for Skin Conditions If your Labradoodle has any skin conditions, this could cause them to shed more fur, or even release more dander into the air. They may show signs of a skin condition by excessive scratching or nipping and licking at the same area. Remember mites and parasites can cause just as much damage to the skin as over-bathing. All of them will contain allergens in their dander and saliva. Grooming is less necessary in flat coated Labradoodles, since their fur is less likely to tangle than wavy or curly fur. There is no particular Labradoodle generation that will have flat hair. But, this trait is most likely in first generation mixes, who have an equal influence of Poodle and Labrador DNA. In subsequent generations, most breeders will increase the amount of Poodle influence to increase the chance of traits like a curly coat. Hair coat Labradoodle fur can still grow quite long, so grooming will also help to prevent any painful knots and tangles. As a general rule, you will want to brush them a couple of times a week, but this might increase in high shedding seasons. Breeding a Labradoodle dog with straight hair Smooth coat Labradoodles are more usually the result of either backcrossing, or multigenerational breeding. Labradors and Poodles were both originally bred for the same purpose — to retrieve waterfowl that had been shot on hunts, and carry it back to their owner. My own favorite Labradoodle friend has a short, smooth coat, a lean but Labrador-esque face, and long legs like a Poodle — she looks like a supermodel! Can Labradoodles start out smooth-coated and turn curly? All dogs are born with a puppy coat, which is softer, finer, and less shiny than their adult coat. Labradoodle puppy coats are generally shorter, less curly and lie flatter than their adult coat. They will start to shed their puppy coat and gradually replace it with an adult coat from about 6 months old onwards. If there is a known possibility that your puppy will have a smooth adult coat too, your breeder should be honest with you about that from the start. But remember, mixed breed coats can be surprising! Smooth Labradoodle temperament Labradoodles have become enormously successful family pets thanks to their winning personalities. They tend to be sociable, good-natured, playful and affectionate. These qualities are common to Labs and Poodles, so Labradoodles reliably have them too. If anything, Labradors tend to be more friendly with other dogs than Poodles are, and less likely to display watchdog or guarding behaviors. An F1b smooth Labradoodle with a purebred Labrador parent has more Labrador heritage overall, and that might also be reflected in their personality too. Smooth coat Labradoodle grooming One advantage of a straight coat Labradoodle is that they typically require less grooming than curly Labradoodles. This is especially true of doodles with short smooth coats. But remember that hair length is controlled separately to texture, so your dog could have fur which is smooth and long. Long Labradoodle coats in all textures are especially prone to matting between 6 months and a year old. This is because the soft baby coat tends to get caught up and tangled in the coarse adult coat as it falls out. So pay special attention to grooming during this time. NOTE: Short straight coats should not be shaved or clipped except as part of medical treatment, as they may not grow back properly. Do smooth coat Labradoodles shed? Smooth coat Labradoodles are more likely to shed than a curly coat Labradoodles, although they may still shed less than purebred Labs. Regular brushing can make a big difference to how much fur ends up on your sofa! The protein molecules which trigger an allergic reaction in dog allergy sufferers actually come from their saliva and to a lesser extent their sweat and urine not their hair. So a smooth Labradoodle is no more allergenic than a curly or wavy Labradoodle, and none of them are truly hypoallergenic. Smooth haired Labradoodles: May have a more Labrador like temperament, depending on their ancestry. Are likely to shed more. But will carry less muddy water home at the end of a walk. Need less day-to-day grooming. Curly haired Labradoodles. Also, your fleece coats, while, overall, are softer than your wool coats in texture, still have some texture variation within the fleece coat type. The Australian Labradoodle requires varying degrees of grooming depending on their coat type. A light trimming might be required with scissors but usually not. However, we do not have any hair coat in Sunset Hills, because our puppies are all multi-gen. This coat usually requires trimming once or twice a year. This coat also requires trimming about three-four times a year. All allergy and asthma friendly labradoodles have a coat change from puppy to adult usually between months of age. During their coat change, it is recommended that you groom them daily. The coat change can last anywhere from a week to several weeks. This is usually the time when owners decide that their beautiful furry doodle needs a shorter look. Note: Not all Labradoodles are Allergy and Asthma friendly. We do recommend that if you have the opportunity to meet one of these wonderful dogs in person that you should check to see if you have any reactions before you make your decision in purchasing your new puppy. They take more after the Labrador side of the breed with a scruffy medium length coat rather than a curly or wavy coat that people usually associate with the breed. Standard sized Straight Hair Labradoodles grow to 51 to 66cm and weigh 23 to 45kg. On the other hand, Miniature Straight Hair Labradoodles get to 40 to 51cm in height and weigh 12 to 23kg. Yes, Straight Haired Labradoodles need basic grooming like all dogs, requiring a weekly brush to remove shedded hair and the occasional bath to keep them clean. Nevertheless, they do not need to be taken to the groomer for a trim every weeks like their curly coat relatives which can save owners quite a bit of money yearly. Do Straight Haired Labradoodles Shed? Yes, Straight Haired Labradoodles shed quite considerably like their Labrador parents. They are the opposite of Curly or Wavy Haired Labradoodles who hardly shed at all. No, Straight Haired Labradoodles are not hypoallergenic as they shed due to the dominance of Labrador genes over Poodle genes. They are unlike Wavy or Curly Haired Labradoodles which are hypoallergenic due to their long, curly coat that needs to be cut. This is most likely to occur in a first generation Labradoodle F1 Labradoodle when a Labrador and Poodle are bred together rather than two Labradoodles. Whilst most people believe that all Labradoodles have a wavy or curly coat, it is actually very common for Labradoodles to have straight haired coat, taking after their Labrador parent more than the Poodle. F2 Labradoodle is when an F1 Labradoodle is bred with another F1 Labradoodle resulting in a fifty-fifty chance of Straight Hair Labradoodles occurring in the litter. If you are looking for a Straight Hair Labradoodle you will want to get an F1 or F2 litter as they have the highest change of the straight hair gene of the Labrador coming through. No, not all F1 Labradoodles will have straight hair however a significant percentage of the litter will. F1 Labradoodles can have any coat type from wavy to curly to straight as it is a first generation breed of a Labrador Retriever and Poodle. No, Straight Hair Labradoodles do not have a double coat like their Labrador parent. Instead they have a single coat. As the weather gets hotter, Straight Hair Labradoodles will start shedding a little more than usual. Nevertheless, colour changes as expected for maturing Labradoodles.
