My boxer has just had puppies and one of the brown puppies has blue eyes. Does that automatically mean that she will be blind or will that eventually go away? The puppies are 3 to 4 weeks old. Photo Credit: Katie! Here's what I would do: hold a treat in front of the dog's face. Then move it up and down. If the dogs head goes up and down or it looks like it's looking at the treat, then the dog might not be blind. All puppies are born with blue eyes. Answer by Doc's wife It is too early to tell, it might be just fine. The only genetic problem I know of in this breed is white boxers have hearing issues. Answer by anwen55 All puppies have blue eyes when they are born. Eye color is not an indication of blindness, the only way you can tell is to take it to the vet. Answer by K9 Crazy It's really hard to tell at such a young age. Puppies that young can't see very well even though they have their eyes open. It's best to wait until the pup is a few weeks older to test it out. A good test is to drop a treat on the floor and see if the puppy looks at it and is able to find it with no problem. Or you can wave your hand in front of the puppy's face and see if it follows your hand. Answer by pat We had a fawn and white male with blue eyes who recently died and we are looking for a boxer puppy with blue eyes. Know better? Give your own answer! How do I know she has accepted him? Because Allie started pushing her food around , elling Bruno not to eat—a sure sign that she accepts the little puppy into her pack. He is deaf so we have to watch him if we let him out of the fence, because it wouldn't do any good to holler for him, since he cannot hear us. He also has blue eyes , which I think is very rare, because most Boxers that I see only have one blue eye , and he has 2 blue eyes. He likes to sleep, play, eat , he likes to be in the house because his hair is thin and short. He also likes to play with my Australian Shepherd Dixie. He always has to sleep in the bed with me. He has to either be leaning on you, sitting on your foot , or lying on you when you are in the bed. He absolutely HATES getting a bath , but he likes it when he gets out and you put the towel over his whole body and start rubbing him all over. His bad habits are: chewing up my little sisters toys , barking when he can't see or find you. He gets a lot of exercise during the day, because we have an acre fenced in where they can run as much as they like. He's the biggest clown I know and snores like you wouldn't believe, but we love him dearly. Shaggy the Boxer in his crate with a cone on his head after being neutered. My name is Bear, by the way. Now go on.Notice the ears are not cropped and the tail is not docked. It is illegal to do so in a lot of European countries. Much like a boxer might spar with an opponent. The Boxer is thought to be a modern descendant of larger mastiff-type fighting dogs that were bred to hunt large game like bison and bears. The white Boxer may be smaller than these ancestors, but this is still a very powerful dog. White Boxer Dog Appearance Contrary to popular belief about the white Boxer, this coat color is not actually rare in Boxers. These include the brown and white Boxer dog, the black and white Boxer dog, the brindle and the fawn. Here again, if the white portions of the coat equal 30 percent or more of the total coat, the Boxer will be considered to have a white Boxer coat color even if there are other colors or patterns present in the coat as well. One of the most enduring myths about white Boxer puppies with blue eyes is that they will be blind later in life. For white Boxers today, blue is considered just another possible eye color. Shedding and Grooming The white Boxer, like all Boxers, has a very short, neat, single layer coat. However, pale dogs can look mucky more quickly than darker haired dogs. Therefore you might need to brush your dog down slightly more often, and bath them more frequently too. Are They Hypoallergenic? The Boxer has a short coat that sheds throughout the year. They spread allergens through the proteins in their dander and saliva, and are not a good match for human allergy sufferers unfortunately. The white Boxer typically weighs 50 to 80 pounds, with adult males outweighing adult females by about 15 pounds. An adult Boxer may stand 21 to 25 inches tall paw to shoulder. Temperament and Personality The white Boxer has the same playful, friendly, and sociable temperament and personality that the Boxer dog breed is known for overall. In fact, the Boxer is often so exuberant that they need continual training and reinforcement not to bowl you over or leap up onto you just to say hello. Even if you just saw each other five minutes ago! Are Boxers Good With Kids? However, the Boxer is high energy and loves to jump up. Boxers tend to do well with other Boxers so long as they are opposite genders. Same-gender Boxers are known to be somewhat intolerant of each other. Guarding Tendencies Both the white male and white female Boxer dog can make a good family watchdog. For this reason, early and ongoing training and socialization is a vital part of helping your white Boxer learn how to welcome guests. And be a healthy and productive member of your family and the local community. A white Boxer will bark as necessary. For a Boxer, often this means barking to alert you when a stranger is present or if something seems amiss. Too much barking may indicate your Boxer is bored or lonely. In addition to strategic barking, you can expect your Boxer to drool more than a bit. Many owners also report that Boxers tend to snore, which may be due to having the shortened muzzle characteristic of brachycephalic dog breeds. Training and socialization The white Boxer, like all Boxers, can be stubborn during training. This is especially true during the short attention span puppyhood phase! Boxers can be independent thinkers, and this arises from their breed history as a hunting dog bred to hunt prey far ahead of their people. They do best in training when you keep each session fresh and interesting and avoid too much repetition. The Boxer is a flat-out amazing canine athlete and will enjoy and excel in canine sports like agility and search-and-rescue. These dogs are also top picks for K-9 and service dog roles. These dogs love to play, jump, run and chase and you should make sure your yard is escape-proof before letting your Boxer out. Are White Boxer Dogs Healthy? Most purebred dog breeds have certain health concerns that are associated with breed. Boxer dogs are no exception. Because white Boxer dogs can have a higher susceptibility to deafness, ethical breeders do not use white Boxer dogs in their breeding stock. However, this does not mean Boxer parent dogs with other coat colors will not produce white Boxer puppies. As long as all other health tests come back clear, white Boxer puppies can make wonderful pet dogs and have the same 10 to year average life expectancy as do all other Boxer dogs. Boxers can be particularly prone to developing heart disease, including aortic stenosis, which is often initially detectable during routine veterinary exams when the vet hears a heart murmur. Often murmurs related to aortic stenosis, which are different than puppy heart murmurs that resolve with age, are not detectable until the Boxer is an adult. Another all-too-common heart issue is cardiomyopathy, which is often detectable via heart arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat. Boxer dogs that exhibit signs of weakness, lethargy, or collapse may be suffering from early stage cardiomyopathy. They are also prone to: Canine cancer. Boxer dogs are usually found in brown or black coat, but there is a certain percentage of white and faun boxers with a major chance of having blue eyes. Blue eyed dogs are commonly found with white fur coats, and this is a genetic reason. Predominately seen with white patches; these boxer dogs have a high chance of being deaf. This genetic disorder that has traveled over the years. Blue eyed boxer puppies can be found having brown eye patches which is a desirable trait and makes the boxer dog appear to be friendlier. One fact about faun boxer with blue eyes and white boxer with blue eyes is that, these dogs can inherit blue eyes even if their parents have black or dark brown eyes. This recessive gene is known to be found in every boxer puppy and has different reasons to show up. As a puppy grows up, it is born with a differing blue eye color. Over the few weeks they tend to mature and the color is gradually changed. Boxer dogs which have larger white and lighter patches on the body are known to have blue eyes. One of the types is the Brindle boxer with blue eyes. This breed has a shiny short hair fur coat, with patches around the eye. The personality trait of these is super happy, and fun loving pets. These boxer dogs have five types of marking son their bodies which are lighter shades of brindle, fawn, and white. They have a large number of marking placements all over. Faun Boxer Dogs with Blue Eyes This breed is found to have different shades of hues, with varying white markings in a flashy way. These are found in a standard way on the muzzle, near the tummy and back. This faun shade varies from light to gold and dark. The blue eyes are a natural gene, whereas the white shades are found on the paws, ankles, chest, and muzzle. The white patch is called a check pattern. German Shepherd Bloodhound Mixes require a diet that will meet the needs of large dogs. This also means they will likely eat a large amount at each meal. A high-quality, protein-packed kibble is a sufficient food for your dog. They also need fats, vitamins, minerals, fruits, and vegetables to stay in the best shape. Their perfect food will depend on their weight, age, and any health conditions that they may have. Overall, a well-balanced food that does not contain fillers or additives is a healthy choice for them. Clean, fresh water should be available at all times. Given the slobbery nature of this dog, their bowl may have to be changed several times a day. Digging, excessive barking, and destruction in the house can be avoided with proper exercise. At a minimum, this mix needs at least an hour a day of good physical activity. Not only will it keep them healthy, but it will also keep them out of trouble. While this makes the dog easy to train , the stubbornness of the Bloodhound can sneak out sometimes. Luckily, the desire that this dog has to perform a task and do it well outweighs most of the stubbornness. They are eager to do their jobs. As a product of two working dogs, this mix is happiest when they have a job to do. With their high energy levels, they may also benefit from agility training. Then, they shed some more. The coat can take on the texture of either parent and daily brushing can help keep the shedding under control. You can invite them into the tub when they get dirty or start to smell. A moisturizing oatmeal shampoo will keep their skin healthy and soft. Regular nail trims to avoid paw injuries are required. The most important part of grooming this dog is ear care. If your mix inherited Bloodhound ears, they will be long, heavy, and droopy. Moisture, dirt, and bacteria can get trapped in the ear. After baths or any time your dog gets wet, be sure to thoroughly dry the ear canals with a soft towel. Check regularly for any signs of infection, like redness, swelling, discharge, incessant ear scratching, or a foul odor coming from the canal. These dogs should be seen by a vet regularly to detect and possibly avoid any health problems. Ear infections — The buildup of bacteria leads to soreness, swelling, pain, and itchiness. Osteoarthritis — This is the depletion of cartilage in the joints, increasing inflammation and causing pain. Bloat — The stomach fills with gas and twists, trapping the air and requiring surgery to repair. Male vs Female Choosing whether to get a male or female German Shepherd Bloodhound Mix will come down to a matter of personal preference. The personality of each dog is unique to that individual, but generalizations have been made about the different sexes. Females are thought to be gentler and more passive, while males want to dominate situations and take control. Males are also reported to be more possessive and protective than females. The only documented difference between the two is size. Females are typically smaller than males, though both can grow to be quite large. This dog is a combination of desired characteristics that make them great family companions. You can find a mix online through breeders or people looking to unload accidental litters, but checking with your local animal shelters and rescues first is a great way to find a beautiful dog and save a life. Its ancestry goes as far back as the 1st century A. The Bloodhound came into America in colonial times. Despite that, the American Kennel Club recognized the breed in .The Bloodhound is a medium to large size breed that weighs 80 to pounds and grows between 23 and 27 inches tall at the shoulder. It has a thin and loose coat that sheds occasionally. Its main colors are red, black and tan , with liver and tan. Common physical features include facial wrinkles, drooping ears, and sad eyes. Far from being the vicious dog breed movies and books paint it out to be, the Bloodhound is a lover of people and shows affection, though it can be shy and also stubborn during training. Originating in , it is considered relatively new. It owes its existence to a German captain named Max Von Stephanitz. The German Shepherd was already in the United States before the 1st World War, but it was after that warfare that it caught the attention of Americans. In , the AKC reverted to the former name. It weighs between 75 and 95 pounds with a height range of 22 to 26 inches. Aloof with strangers but loyal and friendly with the family, the GSD can play the role of a companion and guard dog. Bloodhound Shepherd mixes are not hypoallergenic Both the German Shepherd and the Bloodhound are not advisable for allergy sufferers. The German Shepherd sheds a lot and dog hair is an allergen. The Bloodhound sheds less, but it drools and smells. Related: 2. It has a strong sense of smell The mix, like its parents, can pick up scents from a long distance and follow it up. It is an excellent trailer and would usually be seen sniffing around when it has nothing else to do. They are not advisable for new pet parents The German Shepherd can be a good first-time dog, but the Bloodhound is known for its stubbornness. One can decide to call it the Bloodhound Shepherd, however. It is active and intelligent Both the German Shepherd and the Bloodhound are working dogs and require a high level of exercise. They are also very intelligent and need mental challenges. These apply to the offspring too. Appearance of the Bloodhound Shepherd Mix General Appearance The Bloodhound and German Shepherd have their distinctive looks, and this should be kept in mind when considering this mix. Only with calculated guesses can we attempt to predict its looks. The mix might get the wrinkles and folds of the Bloodhound or the hairier skin of the German Shepherd. Its ears could either be erect or drooping, the eyes sharp or lazy, the frame lean like the German Shepherd or broader like the Bloodhound. Genetics is the major determinant of what the Bloodhound German Shepherd mix would look like. Size It is easier to predict the size as both parents are in the medium to large category. It weighs up to pounds and grows up to 27 inches. The dominant gene often determines the coat type. There is a variety of colors it can pick from, including black, red, brown, black and tan, and black and white. For a mix this rare, you can only ascertain its behavior through that of its parent breeds. From what we know about the German Shepherd and the Bloodhound, we can accurately state that the resultant crossbreed will be loyal to its family. Its devotion will stay strong to those it loves, and it will protect them when need be. With strangers, it might be reserved, especially as a puppy. Socialization can enable it to be more accepting of strangers. Regular exercise and activities are necessary to satisfy it. A behavior you would have to get used to is its continuous sniffing, especially if it tilts towards the Bloodhound. Even while on the leash, it would try to steer you towards a different direction if it picked up something interesting. This behavior hints at its stubbornness and independent spirit which it might pick from the Bloodhound. It may not always do what you want from it, so patience is required. Like their parents, Bloodhound Shepherds can be good companions and family dogs to families that can accommodate them. Not every family can cope with this dog mix, however. For some people, taking care of this mix can become a source of frustration. Only with the ideal owner can it get to its full potential. Both Bloodhounds and German Shepherd get along with other dogs when you introduce them early. The same applies to the mix. Do not try to get an adult to flow with canines if it was not used to it. It could also get along with pets like cats and some other rodents when well socialized. The Bloodhound Shepherd came from accidental breeding, which makes it difficult to find. There are only a few breeders who specialize in designer breeds, and those prefer the popular ones. Your only options are breeders that sell Bloodhounds or German Shepherd Dogs. It could be either higher or lower than this price range, and it often depends on the breeder, pedigree of the puppy, the health of the parent breeds, etc. Make it your aim to shop only from a responsible breeder, regardless of price. While a cheaper offer might seem more economical, keep an eye on the future. The responsible breeder will be more willing to answer questions, show documents and give more proof that the puppy is healthy and well-bred. The accidental breeding that brought forth this mix might also make some unwilling breeders and owners leave it at shelters. You might have better chances of adopting this mix than buying it, and it is cheaper at well. Rescue shelters are sometimes more trustworthy than breeders and will answer your questions. Figure out how the pup ended up there and if it is healthy in every way. It eats in big quantities, so you should measure its meal to avoid obesity. This mix can also suffer from bloating if it rushes its food. Teach it to eat slower. It will benefit from a rich diet that contains all the necessary nutrients for its growth and nourishment. Dry kibble is preferred, but you can supplement its diet with wet food to break the monotony. Let the diet be free of fillers or additives. It must be of high quality and contain a good amount of protein. Besides that, the diet also needs a sufficient amount of fat, vitamins, minerals, vegetables, and some fruits. Some fruits and vegetables are harmful to dogs, and you should steer clear of that. The Bloodhound parent needs about 8 cups daily, divided into 2 meals. The mix could fall somewhere in between or follow a particular parent. When in doubt, seek help from a veterinarian. Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix Exercise The lazy looks notwithstanding, exercise your Bloodhound mixed with German Shepherd as much as you would a worker dog breed. You have to live an active lifestyle before getting a Bloodhound Shepherd mix as a companion. Give it time to play with the kids till it uses up its energy and you should be good to go. It can also be your companion as you go jogging. Overall, it needs at least an hour of exercise as an adult. The puppy can do with 10 minutes of minimal activities and should not be allowed to run, especially as this Mix is prone to hip dysplasia. Seniors should be given low-intensive activities too. Besides physical activities, mental stimulation is needed. Most of them are forms of training which we shall soon see. With the Bloodhound gene, however, the game goes to a harder level. The general rule of thumb for many dog breeds applies to this mix too. Start training it from a young age to override the stubborn tendencies it might have. Early training is also a preventive measure against bad habits. The mix might also inherit the sensitivity of the Bloodhound, which makes harsh treatment and yelling affect it more than many other breeds. Conversely, it responds to kind methods better. If you want to succeed at training this hybrid, positive reinforcement is the key. When badly treated, it might retreat and refuse to co-operate further. The mix will do well in obedience training because of its intelligence and the pleasing nature of the German Shepherd. Teach it to respond to simple commands. Socialization and house training are some other important forms of training as well. The former shed a lot too, so get a vacuum cleaner on standby. Brushing can be done daily or weekly as the case may be. The Bloodhound drools and emits a particular odor that calls for extra attention once you discover these traits on the mix. Bathing should be more regular than some other dog breeds, but not daily like humans. You should also be comfortable wiping off the slobber to keep it clean. When the mix gets the floppy ears, know it will be more susceptible to an ear infection. You should also wipe excess wax and dirt. As you clean, observe for symptoms like red spots, odor, or sores. Get it to the vet as ear infections can make the dog deaf. Keep its teeth clean and its nails trimmed too. Also Read:. These hound dogs are known to be stubborn but they also have this amazing ability to sense trails. If trained correctly they can show immense loyalty in their masters which will last forever if given lots of love from people who understand what it takes to take care of them as well as themselves. They can be vocal or quiet depending on how you want them to act! A Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix dog holds nice temperaments and is curious to explore the environment while being playful towards people which means they will approach others for interaction rather than running away when scared or surprised. Socializing and Exposure: One of the most important things you can do for your Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix is socialization. Socializing initially helps us avoid any awkward moments when meeting new people or places, which may be difficult if not impossible at times as they get older and more experienced. Bloodhounds should receive ample doses throughout life time to ensure mental health development through different experiences. Not only does it provide mental stimulation but also exercise opportunities! This means you can enjoy time with them without guilt as they hunt down the ball and bring it back to share their joy in playtime together. The best part? They have massive bones, heavy muscles that make them appear much bigger than most other breeds of dogs in looks alone! Size: The Bloodhound is a large, athletic dog with short hair. It has dark brown or black fur and wide-set eyes that give it an intense look. Bloodhounds are well-known for their black and tan, liver-colored fur with darker tones of brown or gray. The white markings on their chests can be seen in some cases too! The loose, pendulous coat helps funnel scent from ground up to their nose and holds it there for them too! This makes this breed perfect at tracking other animals that may escape by hiding in bushes or wooded areas because its keen sense will always lead you right back where they were found thanks largely due to these features which are why so many people love owning a bloodhound as pets. Grooming: Wash your Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix every week with a plastic dog coat, or more if you like. This breed loses her hair during the season and during this time you can use a razor to take off the hairs. Remember that its skin is lean and delicate. Bloodhound earplugs appear to be intended to catch stains and produce fungus and germs, making it more susceptible to allergies. Wash them once a week with a solution endorsed by a vet. Take extra care regarding the dental health of your dog as they require to get their teeth cleaned twice or thrice in a week. Their breath could get better by brushing teeth on a daily routine. Be careful before getting their nail trims as it can cause them little pain. Lifespan: Their life expectancy is from years normally. Care: The Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix is a strong and independent breed who loves to sniff out new things. To keep your dog safe while still letting him have some freedom outside make sure they wear matching collars so there are no distractions when going through neighborhoods together as well as keeping their leash readily available. Good for Walk: If you live in the country or enjoy hiking, this is your perfect breed. Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix are the perfect breed for people who enjoy long walks and hiking. They can go on hikes or take their owners out into nature to explore, which makes them great jogging buddies too! Doing this will help keep their coat. The situation is better by double checking the food daily instead of leaving it everytime! If you have a Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix, be careful about what kind of water dish they use. While it might not seem like much at first — just keep an eye on how often their ears get wet and if there is any build up in those areas where drool usually goes when eating kibbled food or having accidents after drinking from the cupboard by your fridge! This breed shows discomfort and weakness on one or one and the other behind the feet. As they age it can lead to arthritis which will make them more uncomfortable as well as painful for years until finally becoming locked up full time. Epilepsy: Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix with this disorder can live a full and healthy life as long as they receive the proper management of their disease. The best way for these dogs in need is to take their medication and live a healthy life as much as they possibly could! Bloat: One of the most life-threatening conditions a dog can develop is bloat. This occurs when gas builds up in their stomachs, which may lead to regurgitation and death if not treated soon enough. The best way for you as pet owner or veterinarian intervention immediately after diagnosis has been made so that this never happens! Fold Dermatitis: Folds are an important part of the Bloodhound German Shepherd Mix body, but when they become infected it can be very painful. Final Thoughts: Along with being loyal companions, German shepherds are also very affectionate and energetic. Post navigation. Coat The German Shepherd is a double-coated breed with medium to long hair and a dense undercoat. The coat of the GSD-Bloodhound cross will depend on which parent it takes after, but this mix will shed. In some cases, they may take after a solid-colored Bloodhound parent. Grooming The grooming requirement of a German Shepherd Bloodhound mix would also depend on which parent it takes after. The short coat of the Bloodhound makes them much easier to groom as compared to the thicker and longer coat of the GSD. The frequency of nail trimmin g and teeth cleaning is the same as any other dog. The ears , however, are something you might need to pay more attention to if your cross takes after the Bloodhound parent. Bloodhounds have large, floppy ears that make them prone to ear infections. Make a habit of cleaning the ears and keeping them dry. Strength The size and build of the Bloodhound-German Shepherd mix make them very strong dogs. This proves useful in working scenarios, but much care has to be taken in households since a little nudge from their strong bodies will be enough to topple a child or fragile senior over. In reality, they will need long daily walks and will ideally have a yard for independent play. German Shepherds require even more opportunities to expend their energy. Given that both parents are active and energetic, the Bloodhound-German Shepherd Mix will need at least 30 minutes of intensive exercise or 1 hour of walking per day. Otherwise, they will expend their energy in other, likely destructive ways. Trainability The ease at which a German Shepherd Bloodhound Mix can be trained will depend greatly on which parent it takes after. The German Shepherd is one of the most trainable breeds and, in fact, ranks the 3rd most intelligent working dog. In contrast, the Bloodhound takes the 74th spot in the dog intelligence ranking. They share this tier with other hounds like the Beagle, Basset Hound, and Basenji. With scent work, however, their focus is stellar. Temperament With proper training and socialization, a German Shepherd Bloodhound cross is expected to be good-natured, friendly , and have an even temperament. This would make them excellent companion dogs, even in households with children and other pets. As such, they are prone to bone and joint issues like hip and elbow dysplasia. Both parents would ideally be evaluated for these conditions to minimize the likelihood of their puppies developing these later on. Other health issues this crossbreed might have include ear or skin infections. If your pup has low-hanging ears and skin folds like the Bloodhound parent, make sure you keep them dry at all times and check frequently for signs of irritation. Additionally, these mutts might be prone to bloat and other digestive issues like their GSD parent. Lifespan German Shepherds typically live between 12 to 14 years while Bloodhounds live between 10 to 12 years. Although their cross would likely have average lifespans of 10 to 14 years, a lot depends on their general health and lifestyle. To give them a better chance of living long and healthy lives, feed them a high-quality diet and take them to regular vet visits for monitoring. Additionally, give them plenty of opportunities for physical exercise and keep them from becoming overweight. However, it does have a Canine Partners Program where hybrids and mixed breeds of all kinds can register and participate in various AKC events, including canine sports. How popular is the German Shepherd Bloodhound Mix? The German Shepherd Bloodhound Mix is often the result of an accidental mating. When these dogs are crossed deliberately, it is usually done to produce working dogs with superior work ethics and tracking abilities. Not only do they have excellent working abilities but they are also delightful companions. It is known for its ability to track human scent from a distance according to Wikipedia. From the Middle Ages to this day, Bloodhounds are used for tracking missing people, escaped prisoners, and even lost pets. In a YouTube video uploaded by Cross Adventuring, it showed how Baxter, a Bloodhound tracked and located a missing person in 4. Dog Time describes it as an intelligent, highly capable, and courageous dog. The GSD is not only trained for rescue operations, but it is also trained for searching, drug detection, and herding. Among the known facts about German Shepherds are as follows: An adult German Shepherd can weigh up to pounds and can grow up to 24 inches or 65 centimeters It is highly intelligent that it can learn a trick or follow instructions after five repetitions. It is curious and brave. It is also at risk of developing eye, ear , and skin infections. There is not much information as to when this cross began. Despite its lack of history, there are different dog owners who introduced their Bloodhound and GSD mix to the internet. Based on the information they provided, here are the known facts about the German Shepherd Bloodhound mix: An adult German Shepherd Bloodhound mix can weigh up to pounds and can grow up to 27 inches or 69 centimeters It is highly intelligent with a keen sense of smell. It is also at risk of developing eye, ear, and skin infections and gastro or bloating problem A German Shepherd Bloodhound mix lifespan is up to 13 years In-Depth Understanding of the German Shepherd Bloodhound Mix According to Reference. With little to no information about this breed, it is best to get across that you are familiar with it. Also, it depends on why you want a German Shepherd Bloodhound mix. For an alternative breed to get, you have to consider two things — are you looking for a family pet or a guard dog? If it is a family dog, the bloodhound line has a lot to offer. The charming, patient, and low-key Basset Hound is a winner among families who love to own a large dog-child. AKC considers the Basset Hound as one of the most recognizable hound family pets in the world. Besides, you can also get the very cute bloodhound-lab mix if you want to raise a large dog in your family. The Happy Puppy Site considers the bloodhound-lab mix as one of the cutest mixes under the bloodhound line. If you have an active lifestyle and you want a dog that can join you in your regular morning jobs and outdoor activities, the German Shepherd or its cross would be a great option. These crosses produce medium to large size dogs and maintain the active, intelligent, and smart qualities of a GSD. However, the purebred German Shepherd remains to be a great option if you are into medium to large size dogs. Even with the limited information about the German Shepherd Bloodhound mix, you might still find some breeders that offer this cross-breed. Before deciding on picking a German Shepherd Bloodhound mix, how about you consider these things first. The temperament of the new breed — consider the parents of the new breed. What are their negative and positive temperaments? Remember that when breeding, there is no guarantee that the new breed will harness all the positive traits of the parents. Size — are the parents medium to large dogs? Do you want a large dog or a smaller one? Do you have a place or space at home to confine a large dog? Cost — what would you normally buy for your pet child? Aside from regular vaccines, vitamins, and regular vet check-ups, you also have to consider food, treats, grooming , and their toys among other accessories. History — what do you know about the parents of the mix? Are they genetically free of diseases? What can your breeder tell you? Is it a known mix or a new one? Health Condition — the health condition is often associated with the history of the new breed. Are the parents of the mix healthy? Is the Bloodhound parent free of ear, eyes, or skin infections? Your Family — is your family ready to take on a new member? Does any member of the family have an allergy that a dog might trigger? Your Lifestyle — taking home a dog means that the dog is your responsibility. Can you commit? Will it fit your lifestyle or will you make adjustments? Choosing a dog breed is not all about the dog, it also talks about you, the future dog owner. You should choose a dog breed that can fit your lifestyle. The interest in the German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is low at the moment and it seems like breeders are more interested in breeding GSD with other breeds. This is perhaps attributed to the fact that they are almost the same — these are already great herding and tracking dogs. If you are into medium to large dogs, it is best to just consider a purebred GSD or any of the popular GSD mixes out there. These existing breeds have been studied hence information about their temperament, grooming, food, and health conditions is already known, making it easier for pet owners to raise and train them well. A Shepherd Hound Mix will present characteristics of both parent breeds and depending on the ratio of the mix, how big these dogs will get can vary quite a lot. A German Shepherd Hound Mix will grow to small to medium height, typically measuring between around 12 inches and 20 inches. Males tend to be larger on average than females, and it is possible for some to grow bigger than 20 inches. In terms of weight, shepherd hound mixes can be as heavy as 50 to 70 pounds, but this can vary a lot depending on their height, how much they are fed and lifestyle, etc. Do Hound dogs bark a lot? Hound dogs do tend to bark a lot because that is how they tend to communicate. Barking is their natural reaction to a variety of situations, and they are not always barking because of something negative. This distinctive bark can become quite disruptive, though, especially if your hound tends to bark more than normal. There are ways to deter your hound dog from barking so much. It is possible that your hound dog is lonely, which is why they bark a lot when alone in the house or the yard at night. Hound dogs are natural pack dogs, so socializing them will help. If your hound dog is barking mainly due to boredom or lack of obedience, try taking them to an obedience class. This will also be a great way to socialize them and teach them to stop when told. Both breeds are descendants of the ancient herding dogs of Europe. They were bred for their herding and working ability. Known as a versatile breed, the GSD can be used for many different purposes, such as police work, guarding, and search and rescue. On the contrary, the Bloodhound was bred for its tracking and hunting ability. It is an older breed with a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, back in England. The Bloodhound was used by English royalty to track deer and other game. They were also used to track humans, such as fugitives and criminals. Today, they are still used for tracking, but they are also popular pets. The Bloodhound has an excellent sense of smell and can track a human scent for miles. This breed is still used today for law enforcement and search and rescue. While the German Shepherd and Bloodhound share a common ancestry, they have been bred for different purposes and have different physical and personality traits. The main reason to mix a German Shepherd breed with a Bloodhound is to create a dog that has the best of both worlds. A GSD- Bloodhound cross will inherit the tracking ability of the Bloodhound and the excellent working abilities of the German Shepherd. This makes them an excellent choice for people who want a dog that can do it all. They can be used for hunting, tracking, law enforcement, and even as a family pet. They will typically be large dogs with a strong, muscular build. They will have the long snout of the Bloodhound and the erect ears of the German Shepherd. Size The typical size of a German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is inches tall at the shoulder and they weigh anywhere from 80 to pounds. Males are typically larger than females, in both height and weight. Males typically weigh between 80 and pounds, while females usually weigh between 60 and 80 pounds. Their height will depend on which parent breed they take after more. If they take after the German Shepherd parent, they will likely be inches tall. If they take after the Bloodhound parent, they will grow up to inches tall. Coat Type This breed has a short, dense coat that is easy to groom. The coat is usually black and tan, but it can also be liver or red. They have a double coat, which means they will shed seasonally. Colors There are a variety of colors that your German Shepherd Bloodhound mix could inherit from their parents. Some of the most common colors are black, brown, and tan. They can also be a mixture of these colors. Socialization at an early age is important to help them become used to meeting new people. To ensure this friendly breed maintains a stable temperament, they require a lot of exercise and stimulation. They make excellent family dogs, however, socialization and exercise will play an important role from an early age. Protectiveness This mix is an excellent choice for a family guard dog. They will protect their family from strangers and other animals. While they are considered a friendly breed, they are also very alert and will make good watchdogs. An example of their protectiveness is their barking. They will bark to warn their family of anything suspicious. They are notorious for their strength and stamina. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you intend to use your dog. If you want a dog for hunting or tracking, their strength will come in handy. An example of their strength is their ability to pull hard on a leash. If you are not used to walking a strong dog, this breed may not be the best choice for you. However, if you are not an experienced dog owner, their strength can be a bit much to handle. They will also need plenty of exercise to stay healthy and happy. They can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. While not as fast as a greyhound or other racing dog, they are still very quick for their size. This makes them excellent at running and playing. If you are looking for a dog to take on hikes or runs with you, this breed would be a good choice. They need at least an hour of exercise every day. Exercise sessions can be in the form of walks, runs, playing fetch, or even agility training. If their daily exercise requirements are not met, they can become bored and destructive. Ideally, this breed of dog is best suited for active families due to its high energy level. They would do best in a home with a large yard where they can run and play. They do not do well in apartments or small homes without a yard. They have incredible learning ability and respond well to training. However, their independent nature can sometimes make training a challenge. They need a firm hand and patience when being trained. This breed is best suited for experienced dog owners who are willing to put in the time and effort to train their dog properly. Loyalty The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a very loyal breed. They will form a strong bond with their family and will be protective of them. Intelligence Levels The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a very intelligent breed that is easy to train. This is due to the fact that both parent breeds are highly intelligent. The German Shepherd is ranked as the 3rd most intelligent breed of dog and the Bloodhound is ranked as the 6th most intelligent breed. This mix will inherit these high intelligence levels, making them easy to train for a variety of tasks. Scent tracking levels The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix will inherit the strong sense of smell from their Bloodhound parent. This keen sense of smell makes them excellent at scent tracking. They are often used in search and rescue operations due to their ability to follow a scent for long distances. If you are looking for a dog that has a keen sense for track down missing people or animals, this breed would be a good choice. This is due to the fact that they are very alert and protective of their family. If you are looking for a dog that will make a good watchdog, this breed would be a good choice. This is due to the fact that they are very vocal dogs. They will howl to communicate with their family and to warn them of any danger. If you are looking for a dog that is very vocal, this breed would be a good choice. Are They Good with Other Dogs? The GSD-Bloodhound cross can get along with other dogs if they are properly socialized. This means exposing them to as many different types of dogs as possible at an early age. This will help them to become used to being around other dogs and not be afraid of them. It should be noted that this breed is typically more comfortable around certain breeds of dogs than others. For example, they may get along better with another GSD-Bloodhound cross than they would with a Chihuahua. This is due to the fact that they share similar size, build, and energy levels. Their occasional dominant traits could also make them incompatible with some dogs. For example, they may not get along well with a dog that is submissive or shy. This is because the GSD-Bloodhound cross may try to assert its dominance over these types of dogs. It is therefore important to properly socialize this breed early so that they can learn to get along with other dogs. Are They Good with Children? The GSD-Bloodhound cross is a great choice for a family with children. This is because they are very loyal and protective of their family. They will bond with the children in the family and will do their best to protect them from harm. This is one of their most positive traits. It should be noted, however, that this breed can be aloof with strangers. This means that they may not be as accepting of children that they do not know. This is why socialization is so important for this breed. It will help them to become used to meeting new people, including children. Nutrition needs The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a medium-to-large sized dog that will need a high-quality diet to maintain their health. This diet should be packed with protein and fat to help them maintain their energy levels. It should also contain a variety of vitamins and minerals to help them stay healthy. Some of the best dog food brands for this mix are Acana, Orijen, and Taste of the Wild. Grooming needs This breed will require weekly brushing to maintain its loose coat. They shed moderately and may need more frequent brushing during shedding season. They should also be bathed as needed, typically every few weeks. Their nails should be trimmed on a regular basis and their ears should be checked for dirt and debris. Overall, the German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a relatively low-maintenance breed when it comes to grooming. Shedding levels The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a moderate shedder. This means that they will lose a moderate amount of hair throughout the year. They may shed more during shedding season, which typically occurs twice a year. Brushing them on a weekly basis will help to reduce the amount of hair that they shed around the house. Drooling levels The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is known for its tendency to drool and slobber. This is due to the fact that they have loose skin around their jaws and mouth, which allows saliva to build up and drip out. This can be a bit of a nuisance, especially if you do not like dogs that drool. However, it is something that you will have to get used to if you decide to own this breed. Adaptability to Weather The German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a relatively adaptable breed when it comes to weather. They can handle both hot and cold weather, as long as they have access to shelter and water. They should not be left outside in extreme weather conditions, as they are not built for it. Overall, this breed can adapt to most types of weather. However, there are some health problems that they are more prone to than others. It is important to have your dog checked by a veterinarian on a regular basis to help catch any of these health conditions early. This is a relatively long life expectancy for a dog, especially considering the size of this breed. The key to prolonging their life is to give them a high-quality diet and to take them for regular check-ups at the vet. While they are not yet recognized by the AKC, this could change in the future.
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old. We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. Check out our whelping supplies checklist here. However, none were overly huge and none were extra small. No runts and no beasts. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! Week 7 — The great puppy escape artists! Week 8 — Our golden puppies head to their new homes. Have you ever had a litter of Golden Retriever puppies? Colby Colby Morita has been raising and training guide and service dog puppies for over 13 years. Colby has been writing to the PuppyInTraining. If your dog is pregnant, then it's time to prepare a whelping box. Whether you create your own using a sturdy box or buy one premade, whelping boxes are important for a number of reasons. Lined with clean blankets or towels, the box helps to keep the mother comfortable while in labor. The box must be large enough that your dog can stretch and move around freely. Once they're born, puppies stay in the whelping box for around 20 days. The box keeps them safe and secure until they're big and strong enough to explore the world around them, with some premade whelping boxes including playpens to stop puppies from wandering off too soon. The video begins with Leia looking at her puppies in the whelping box despondently. The newborns, who are only a few days old and still have their eyes closed, can be seen wriggling around the small space. Sensing Leia's distress, her owner walks over to the pen and begins to put the puppies in a neat little pile in the corner. This gives Leia the chance to squeeze into the remaining space, where she lies down next to her babies. The puppies then start edging towards their mom for lunch, while Leia shuffles closer to her kids for a cuddle. A stock photo of two Golden Retriever puppies cuddled up to their mom. The cute clip left one TikTok user "sobbing. However, others suggested the real reason Leia wouldn't climb in the pen was that she needed a "break. I was trying to have a break and now I have to be a mum again," joked Vanquish. The poster obliged, and in a clip shared on January 2 , Leia and her babies can be seen in a new, much larger pen. Leia isn't the only dog mom to make social media all teary-eyed recently. A retired breeding dog named Zoey was reunited with one of her puppies in December, while a dog refusing to eat her food until her babies do received more than 1 million views. The only concern that we have is that our dog came with Kennel Cough. An unnecessary expense that our breeder, Morgan, should have taken care of before we received our puppy. We have taken him to the vet to start our puppy on antibiotics. Tibbitts I love my bulldog and his sister! J Tapia a year ago My guy is 8 and in perfect shape! Just updating this! My guy is gonna be ten in April. His father was Searg and his mother was Sweetvine. Morgan was great to work with. She was patient and thorough with all of our questions when we first got him. My recommendation to any bulldog owner is to be sure to have a vet who truly knows and loves the breed. Bulldogs are known to have more health issues than some other breeds, but they can certainly live long healthy lives, especially if they have a healthy start to their life. Morgan will be honest and open to discuss any health concerns you may have, as well as give vet recommendations or general info. I love my dog and we are forever grateful to Morgan for doing all the work she does for this amazing breed. Jasmin Portillo 2 years ago I will definitely recommend sugarplum to whoever is looking to purchase a bulldog. You can tell Morgan is a professional and takes really good care the pups while in her care. We will dependently purchase another bulldog from her in the near future. Karl Beckett 2 years ago I purchased my English bulldog in August .The entire process of purchasing her as well as picking her up at the time was incredibly simple. All the animals there seemed to be very happy, well cared for, and healthy. I reached out at the end of March asking for info about her new process and she was extremely responsive. I also told her I was looking for a certain head shape and she was super willing and responsive about the sires. I emailed twice and called twice over the span of 2 months with no response. I was not pushy or unkind, In fact I led each communication with grace acknowledging that she must be busy, and still no response. This made me think about why she might be concealing information about her female bulldogs. I began to feel very uncomfortable about this business and putting a deposit down on a breed that is known for genetic health issues without any information on one of the parents. I know Morgan reads these reviews, so perhaps she will provide an explanation about the female bulldogs she breeds on here, as I was not able to receive an answer myself. Rameen Maleki I had my puppy Rocky there twice and they have been great. Katherine Fitch Our little bully is great! She is the joy of our life. I got her back in from Morgan and her helper, I'm forgetting his name, and they were both great. I had made an appointment to come check out the puppies and they let me sit with them for a couple hours before making a decision so I didn't feel rushed and definitely made the right choice. She is about 42 pounds and looks much smaller than most other bullies. Ming did have a lot of health problems her first year but I was prepared for this since everything I read on bulldogs said this was a high probability. It was life changing for Ming Ming who suffered from pneumonia a few times in her first year. She had to go to the ER a twice and a lot of the vets didn't know how to stop this from happening until I found out about that surgery. John Strutt 2 years ago I have to say, sugarplum gets a bad rep. I bought Maya Aggie about two years ago. She is the most energetic loving bulldog I could have asked for. She has the sweetest temperament and is a wonderful addition to the family. Great around kids and other dogs. Already recommended this place to others. Jean Bricker 3. Work on your self and treat your dogs better! Henry Lachowicz 2 years ago Definitely a puppy mill. She has some farm in Missouri and you never get to see the parents. Our bully had nothing but temperament issues, and its sad. We were accidentally referred here and its the biggest mistake we ever made. Deborah Shomaker 2 years ago I purchased a blue and white male bulldog 3 weeks ago. He is doing great. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He is very healthy. Everything went smoothly from purchase to delivery. This is an unethical business that does not represent itself in a straightforward way that plays fast and loose with their dogs' wellbeing. In we were naive and wide-eyed optimists and all too desperate to find a bulldog to join our family. We didn't ask hard questions and we came to regret it. Looking back, there were so many things that should have raised red flags. She told us that she was a breeder, and yet when we arrived she shifted the story to say that she was in the process of setting up as a breeder, and converting her space. On the phone she never made it clear that the puppies she had were from out of state, we came to find out ours was from Missouri, bred by a woman whose name we found had multiple liens against her for bad business practices. If you are wondering why I'm writing this review after so many years it's because I have had mixed feelings. Winston the bulldog is a constant joy, and I regret nothing even though he needed multiple surgeries in the months after we bought him because of a congenital hernia that every vet we saw said demonstrated that the breeder had been irresponsible. Even after thousands of dollars in vet bills, I do not regret choosing Winston, but what I regret and wish I could change is ever having supported this unethical business. Cindy Short 2 years ago Have had our baby for almost a year and the most amazing EB ever. Very responsive, white glove delivery, and exactly as promised. He is a "smaller" of the breed which we love. We knew about the midwest birthing facility and even had someone in the 'biz' check them out. Would highly recommend them for sure. Especially if you want a medium to smaller EB. She is full of energy, personality, and fun! She is our first English Bulldog but definitely won't be the last as long as Morgan is the breeder. Luna has only needed her well visits to the vet and spaying. Do not hesitate to work with Morgan and Sugarplum Bulldogs to find a wonderful pup! Though I had never seen the breeding facilities myself and cannot speak on the quality of such, I can tell you that this is one extremely healthy, happy bulldog! Having been home two weeks now he has received an exceptional bill of health after a new puppy inspection with my veterinarian that I have been going to for over a decade, is fully crate trained, and getting consistently better potty training. That being said, I wanted to write this review in-depth because this is the first dog I have ever bought from a breeder and I had major apprehension doing so without visiting the facilities and whatnot first, but my experience has been very good start to end and I based on such I would highly recommend Sugarplum Bulldog thanks to the quality of the little guy who's now a part of my family. I can't speak for others' experiences, but I hope this and the attached images help to clear up some of the posts that made me initially question Sugarplum Bulldogs, as I am an actual owner of one and am speaking only on my experiences as such. Hope this helps! Michelle Dabney 2 years ago I love Sugarplum Bulldogs! Morgan has been wonderful - so knowledgeable and responsive! We are fortunate to have 2 babies from Sugarplum. We got our first four years ago, and our second just last week. Although our newer addition was a little sick when she arrived, Morgan was very responsive and took care of everything. Years ago, when we were looking for our first bulldog, I unknowingly talked to a couple of sellers who turned out to be selling on behalf of what I assume were puppy mills. They were high pressure selling and not very knowledgeable about the puppies except for the basics. Thankfully we found Sugarplum Bulldogs! We even already used the same vet. So when we brought our puppy in for his first vet check-up, they immediately asked if he is a Sugarplum because they know her dogs! When we were ready to get a 2nd one, there was no question we would contact Morgan! I know it is scary to get a pet sight unseen, but I would encourage anyone to talk to Morgan. She knows so much about her dogs and the breed — she is so helpful! And if there are any issues, my experience has been that she is very honest and will make it right. We could not be happier with our bulldogs pictured here with our rescue pet puggle , and we are so happy to work with Morgan and Sugarplum Bulldogs!!! Mirna C 2 years ago Morgan answered all my questions with kindness and professionalism every time I reached out to her. I was able to reach her via phone and email. She was very patient with all my questions as this was my first time purchasing a bulldog. She even offered to answer my questions if I didn't purchase a pet from her. Sugar Plum works with a puppy mill in Missouri where the animal welfare laws are not strict. The dogs are then transported to VA to a nice, clean farm. You don't see the dogs that are bread and what is going on behind the scenes. We bought a puppy that had a heart murmur. We brought the puppy back and were given another puppy. She had 4 surgeries to get her to be okay before her first birthday. Our sweet baby passed away two weeks ago at the young age of four. We kept in touch with the lady who adopted her brother. He died a few weeks ago from cancer. Our friends, who we mistakenly referred to Sugar Plum, have two dogs from there. One has had two CCL repairs and the other, also 4-years-old, was just diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Prognosis is not good. Bullies should not require surgery after surgery to make them okay and only live to be 4. Please, don't put yourself through the heartache we are going through. I made the mistake and purchased a puppy and he died 3 weeks after he was delivered to our home. His name was Bodhi and we loved him very much. .My family and I were devastated after loosing our puppy Bodhi. The night Bodhi died he was playing with his toys in the kitchen and during this time he was gasping for air. The doctors sedated him and put him on a ventilator. X ray showed no object blocking his air way. I am not a animal doctor but I believe my puppy was sickly from the day he was delivered to our home, not to mention Morgan owner of Sugerplum had my puppy delivered to us at 7 weeks old which is a direct violation of the breeding laws. I called Morgan the night my puppy died and told her what happen. Morgan did not care and she had no sympathy whatsoever. Way to go Morgan hope your happy. Who would ever think your puppy would die after 3 weeks of having him. .To everyone do not buy a puppy from Sugerplum find a local breeder who loves there animals and are not in it for the money. RiP Bodhi broken hearted Ray Teresa Chestnut 2 years ago Purchased a puppy less than six months ago for a friend recovering from cancer! She was at the vet at least once a week! Last night she had to be put down 5 months old! Is 5 months the life expectancy? Just long enough to fall totally in Love! Zoeh Byrd 2 years ago i have 2 wonderful puppies from sugarplum named max and molly! Mikey Miller 3 years ago Purchased a puppy from Sugar Plum a while back and he died within the first 2 weeks. We spent over 7 grand bringing him to different vets trying to keep him alive. When we contacted the breeder she tried to blame us for not taking proper care of the puppy. All of the vets that we brought him to said there was nothing more we could have done as owners to keep him alive. I was not planning on writing a review but I really do not want people to go though what my family went through. Please avoid this place. Ashley Wetherell 3 years ago This is a puppymill! I absolutely love my sweet fur baby, but I would never buy from them again nor reccomend them. I am sorry my answer is brief, I am traveling. Please do not buy from the pet store, this will only support the puppy mill industry. A good breeder will let you visit their home and see the mother or the father or both parents. Their breeding bulldogs should be seen as members of the family, not kept apart from the family. They will ask you to sign a contract that requires spay or neuter if the dog is not show quality. They will give a 1 year minimum health guarantee for congenital defects. The mother and the father will be registered in AKC or CKC or equivalent, and the litter of puppies will also be registered. They will give you the name of their vet and permit you to call them and you should. They should ask you questions about your family and your home, especially whether you own or rent, if your landlord allows pets, if you have air conditioning, if you have time to spend with the dog they are family dogs, not outside dogs, and do not do well without human contact , and if you have money for future health issues like cherry eye, skin allergies, elongated palate surgery, torn ACL, etc. Not all dogs have these, but there is a pretty good chance your dog may have at least 1 ailment that affects bulldogs specifically. My breeder also gave me a list of bulldog maintenance items to have, baby wipes everyday , chlorhexidine, ear drops, benedryl, canned pumpkin, baby shampoo, a dog crate, stainless steel food and water bowls. They are gorgeous and loving creatures but they are like a baby that we don't leave alone. They usually eat high quality dog food, my lola is on raw food, which really helps with skin allergies and overall health. And, Jonathan actually arrived early here in Auburn Maine! I was waiting right at my sliding glass doors when he texted me! What a great guy. She is so, so smart! Talks back! She's such a Blessing!!!! I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was the one, who a couple of years ago had cancer, and you gave me my deposit back. And you didn't have to. God Bless You. I am over joyed with this gorgeous, crazy, silly girl!!! I love her so much! Thank you, so very much! Kathleen Byron Kathy! In fact all the vets I have every gone to think she is most healthiest and beautiful coat of any bulldog they have seen. She is now 11 years old, a little arthritis, maybe starting dementia, but could be eyes. I am taking her to eye specialist on Tuesday. I just wanted to let you know we love her and thank you for having such great puppies to pick from. He was obviously well loved and cared for. He's gorgeous, smart and confident. We've had him for 2 days and he's adjusted perfectly. She has a very friendly temperament and loves attention. Not only was Sugarplum Bulldog's process extremely organized from the moment of deposit to our visit to the farm, but it was also very thorough. We were able to get everything we needed, his food, his crate, vitamins, and the best health tips to keep Finn healthy and active. He has not had any health issues and transitioned so easily into our home, going potty outside, and interacting with other dogs belonging to our extended family and friends. Morgan helped us to select the best fit temperament pup for our lifestyle. I would recommend Sugarplum Bulldogs to anyone and plan on returning when we decide to introduce a second bully to our home. He is a wonderful addition to our family and has brought us a lot of love and joy. This breed is known for health issues but Morgan helped answer all our questions and gives you a complete take home folder with all instructions on diet, hygiene care, vaccines, health records, and her 1 year guarantee paper etc etc. Morgan is professional and you can tell she cares a lot about the puppies. The day we picked up our little boy she sat down with us and reviewed all care instructions and gave us a puppy care bag with food, a leash, harness, toys etc etc. Morgan made the process of buying our first family dog very comfortable and with confidence. My little fur boy is healthy and any concerns I can easily ask and contact his Grandma Morgan because Grandmas know best! Awesome quality breeding smaller in size and excellent bloodlines. Morgan is awesome and is very knowledgeable about the breed and supportive to bully owners. .Thanks Morgan we love Bentley! Call Morgan at for specific pup identification if you are leaning towards placing an early deposit. Please check back, we update our website daily! Please see our Deposit Page and our Transportation Page for information on getting your puppy. We love the English bulldog temperament, physique and expression, I just personally like it to be about lbs. We find the smaller sizes are more buoyant and playful and, though still very heat sensitive, are better able to cope with life in general. Downsizing an AKC breed takes time. Our girls all come from long lines of lb. We not trying for 20 pounders…our goal is to have healthy, beautiful babies that consistently mature at lbs. If you see a puppy that tugs on your heartstrings please call, or go to our deposit page for more information. In the last few years it has become clear that most people would prefer their puppy to be transported using our White Glove transport or Nanny Flight transport. Today, we have requests for our Puppies from all over the country. Because of this, the majority those requesting a Sugarplum Bulldog Puppy have also requested transport to their area of the country; those in Florida, for example, cannot easily make the drive to RI. As such, the majority of our Puppies have shifted to a transport model; this gets them closer to their new forever home. Because of this, we have come to the decision, that for the well being of our Puppies and for the benefit of our new Sugarplum Bulldog owners, we have developed a transport model for our pups using our Puppy-Mobile with direct transport to the pups new Forever Home! Our Mid-Western breeding home is co-owned by Sugarplum Bulldogs, and our partner. I realize that not having a chance to play with the Pups is disappointing to some, but please understand that our team are dedicated to the highest level of care for our little Pups. We truly feel that this new model is in the best interested of our Puppies and their new homes. Please feel free to ask me any questions….

Anastasiya Karovina 2 weeks ago Thank you guys for the beautiful baby. She's gorgeous! Brought joy to the house for the whole family. Excellent work, service, responsible attitude. I recommend it! Hagen 3 weeks ago My journey with my German Shepherd began with the expert guidance of the breeder at I Guard International and was beautifully complemented by the training prowess Jessi, Cody and Nick at K9 Country Club. Together, they've shaped a truly remarkable experience for me and my family. At I Guard International, I found not just a breeder but a passionate caretaker for these noble animals. The attention to detail, the commitment to quality, and the profound understanding of the German Shepherd breed were evident from our first meeting. Our pup was not merely a product but a living testament to their dedication to excellence Cody, working in unison with Nick, brought a whole new dimension to our German Shepherd's training. Their collaboration, with unique insights and methodologies, created a synergy that was reflected in the outstanding development of our pet. Cody's patient approach, his investment in understanding our dog's unique needs, and his ability to work seamlessly with Nick, resulted in a well-rounded and perfectly trained companion. But it wasn't just about the training; it was about the relationships that were forged. Jessi, Cody and Nick became more than trainers; they became mentors and friends to our family. They shared their wisdom, their love for dogs, and their unwavering commitment to providing the best care and training possible. Our German Shepherd's growth under their combined guidance has been a joy to watch. His character, discipline, and happiness are direct reflections of their hard work and heartfelt investment. If you're considering a breeder who truly understands the essence of the German Shepherd breed and trainers who will not just train your dog but celebrate its unique personality and potential, I wholeheartedly recommend I Guard International for breeding and training. In a world filled with choices, choosing them was one of the best decisions we've made for our family and our beloved pet. Their combined expertise and genuine love for what they do have created a lifelong bond and a truly happy, well-trained German Shepherd. Tom Jones 2 months ago.Hans Hauge 3 months ago We wanted two dogs that could both defend our home and still be a part of the family. We got it with these two. When someone comes to the door they let us know, and then they just chill out. Megan Mathews 6 months ago.As I was looking for breeders in the Spokane area. I came across I-Guard and gave them a call and spoke with Jessi. We set up a meeting to talk about their German Sheppards and she introduced us to Nick. He listened to our story about our Mal and he matched us up with the perfect German Sheppard for our family, Ace. I was impressed with the knowledge and professionalism that both Jessi and Nick gave to me and my family and feel very fortunate that I made the phone call to I-Guard for our next addition to our family. Since July Nick has reached out to ensure that all is going well on top of training Ace 1 on 1 to help out with my autistic son. Thank you Jessi and Nick for all you have done for my family. Zach Phelps 8 months ago Love these guys! Jessi was super helpful in answering any questions. They breed great tempered dogs for any environment. They took the time to talk and match the right dog to my crazy lifestyle. I will absolutely be coming back to expand my pack in a year or two. Chris Destro 2 year ago We searched and spoke with many German Shepherd breeders. Once we connected with Jessie, we felt super comfortable as she did not rush our decision at all, in fact, she was extremely patient and helpful as we made our final choice. So glad we went with I-Guard and her! He is amazing with kids and has a friendly disposition. We love him very much. Thank you again, Jessie.Koda is the best! We look at every German shepherd puppy as a special member of our family—and a future member of yours. Think of it like skipping the baby stage and the sleepless nights. Puppies range from two to 10 months old depending on your preference. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article. Anyone can buy a puppy from a champion, but it does not mean that they have any other interest in the breed but to bank on the name and make money. Having a Champion in a pedigree is like having a billionaire relative. AKC registration does not guarantee quality. AKC papers are much like the title of a car; papers are issued to the junked Chevy on blocks in your yard just as easily as they are on a brand new, shiny Jaguar. AKC does not control breeding, approve litters, or guarantee temperaments. AKC Registration is automatic if you buy from a reputable breeder — they will provide all necessary paperwork when you buy a puppy. There are several groups that are registering dogs, even mixed breeds, for a fee. This registration means nothing, and is of no value to you. Are there too many defects for the animal to be bred? Shop with care. Rarely will a good breeder have the luck to own both dogs for the perfect litter. There are some good and very reasonable reasons to have both parents on site. However, you need to ask the right questions and understand why this is true. They might be, they might not. Are they too big to be cute anymore? Need more money? Is there a problem? Usually because there are more on the way. Be very wary of this one. Will a Breeder Ask Me Questions? Conscientious breeders want the best available home for their puppies. This determines the amount of time you will have available for your new addition. There are very important items that should be supplied by the breeder. Breeders will typically give you the following items: A signed pedigree A current Health Record; including de-wormings and vaccinations. DNA Tested, OFA Certified Our adult dogs are tested for various genetic diseases most common to Toy Poodles in order to ensure that puppies produced will not suffer from these conditions. Good Temperament and Sweet Disposition Our dogs are also screened for behavioral issues and only those who are sweet, intelligent, and with an overall sound temperament are allowed to contribute to the Abounding Poodles gene pool. You will not find a short-legged, big round protruding eyed dog in our lines. Our goal is to produce a "Poodley Poodle," a good representation of the breed that can proudly carry the Abouding name in its pedigree. Health Guarantee All puppies have a 48 business-hours window to be checked by a vet. During this period of time the puppy may be returned for any health issues. Thereafter the puppy will be covered in case of a genetic life-threatening disease until its first birthday. You can find the detailed Health Guarantee here. Lifetime Support We are just one phone call, text message, or e-mail away. Contact us here. We Carefully Screen Potential Adoptive Families No puppy shall ever be sold to a puppy mill, a pet store, or an agent of either. Potential families must fill out an extensive questionnaire and provide references. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and, in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise. Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me, and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past and the pure joy of the moment. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human.
