So, why do Frenchies need toys in the first place? So, what are some of the biggest reasons that toys are important for French Bulldogs? Toys Provide Mental Stimulation Frenchies are smart and curious, and they need to exercise their brains regularly. Entertaining dog toys, especially puzzles, are a great way to prevent boredom, depression, and destructive habits, as well as encourage them to learn problem-solving skills. Toys allow them to exercise their natural chewing instincts, saving them from pent-up energy and anxiety. Mentally and physically engaging toys are the best way to prevent this, allowing them to relieve any pent-up stress and energy. Aside from your standard dog toys, it also helps to have a few toys that allow you and your pup to play together. These play sessions will help you and your dog to grow closer while also getting in some physical activity. You should try to get in at least minutes of exercise or active play every day, but go for a bit more if you have the time. This time can include anything from walks to playing tug-of-war as long as your pup is getting up and getting moving. We think your pup will love each of these toys, so feel free to try them out! BarkBox delivers new toys and treats every month, so with a customized bundle, your pup will never be bored again! Chews distract them from chewing unnecessary things, and that is why it is crucial to provide them both puppies and adult Frenchies with enough chews. If you have puppies in the house, you may want to be very cautious as they attempt to swallow anything, including whole chews. Observing how you Frenchie interacts with the toys over time is very crucial as this can help you get the right toys. Do French Bulldogs have any particular characteristics? When it comes to Kentucky French Bulldogs for sale, you may already know that they are small dogs. They are companion dogs, so they are friendly and affectionate. They love spending time with their owners, and they will want to be with you all day. They also enjoy playing, so get ready to have fun! Is there a reason French Bulldogs are so expensive? These pups are more difficult to breed for Kentucky French Bulldog breeders. Their narrow hips make natural reproduction very difficult, so they are often artificially inseminated, and pups are delivered by C-section too. This additional work and skill for the breeders leads to higher prices for French Bulldogs for sale Kentucky. What if I find a French Bulldog from a breeder in another state? But if you find your pup from a breeder over the other side of the country, they can make travel arrangements so you can simply meet your pooch at your most convenient major airport. When you are looking for French Bulldog puppies for sale Kentucky, plan how you will introduce them to your other pets. Do French Bulldogs shed during the year? Yes, like many other dogs, French Bulldogs shed throughout the year. Just make sure you give them a regular brush and you will find that it is very easy to look after these little dogs. There are several reputable french bulldog breeders in Kentucky but do trust those with years of experience and not the backyard breeders with limited knowledge of the high standards for which I breed, quality. .Please watch the little human ones though, Frenchie do not having their ears pulled or their eyes explored; do you? Frenchies are funny, shorter legs, more lazy, rounded ears and demanding of your attention! They are comical and playful but lazy might be a better description. Bulldogs are NOT good swimmers; being head heavy, they tend to tilt downward and can drown. Swimmies or life jackets coupled with constant supervision is a MUST as they do love to soak. If you have an in-ground swimming pool they need to be supervised at all times if they have access to it. French Bulldogs are known as a bullheaded and stubborn breed so repetition is the key to training. Praising and sweet talk is the key to success along with patience as they love to please. Just like raising a child, but remember, you are the alpha, and they will learn what you teach them. Again, repetition, reward and patience are key. They are always anxious to please. Margaret O. I could not be happier. A mentally healthy dog is so important. Our little guy came to us in an unexpected unique way. After a previous family was unable to take him, Jeff called us and asked if we were interested in coming out to meet the puppy that same day! They are willing to sit and talk through any questions you have, they give you a lot of information about the breed, and what to expect when you bring your puppy home. Another big plus for us was seeing that the kennels were clean and all the dogs that we saw looked very healthy. Our puppy was the sweetest when he first met us! He ran up to us, showered us in puppy kisses, and was just overall a happy chill little dude. He just had his first vet appointment and was given a clean bill of health! He is sweet, gentle, and such a fast learner! I have never met any dog with this level of intelligence and at such a young age! We have only had him for 6 days and he has settled in so quick and has already learned basic commands. Thank you so much Jeff and Rhonda for our new little addition to our family! When we first went to meet with them and take a peek at Adrian and Barus litter, we liked that they had all the dogs in the home and the home was clean!!! Adrian had a calm temperament as well as the rest of the dogs. Caught on extremely quick w the training and is extremely good with our young grandchildren. We definitely chose the right breeders. Good communication and great canine genetics are obvious! Response from the owner Thank you so much April for the kind words. Rhonda and I try very hard to make things special for our puppy families. Pride and integrity means everything to us. Rhonda takes care of pupies like her own kids! We have 3 of their dogs one male that is the puppy of untox and panja. H gets to play fight likes that and playing with his ball. Rhonda was spectacular to work with, detailed and friendly. She is one of the most intelligent, healthy puppies we have ever owned and her temperament with our family is world class. When we were looking for a puppy we met with Rhonda and could not of been happier. There dogs were so well behaved, stunningly gorgeous and just wanted to be loved. Exactly what my wife and I were looking for. We all no there is never any guarantees in life when it comes to purchasing a puppy, but I can say we have a true champion in our little Bella. She has been a total blessing since we got her. Thanks Rhonda and Jeff!! Response from the owner. Our goal is to be the best and that means breeding the best German Shepherds in the country. Best temperament, easy to train and an absolute sweetheart. However, I have an extraordinary story to share about my young pup. Mila our female puppy has a sense of medical issues. At .I typically experience these attacks once every year or two. At first, I thought maybe I spilled so food or something on my shirt, so I changed my shirt, but she continued. Then a little over an hour later, I had an attack. Mila did not leave my side for the entire time. No matter what way I tried to lay in bed to get comfortable she would move her body to press up against my gallbladder. Normally she is crated at night and does great, no whining or anything.Having her warm body and the slight pressure of her body next to me really actually helped. The next day I was back to normal, and Mila went to her crate for bed no problem. Golden Retrievers have a double coat, consisting of an undercoat and an overcoat. The combination coat is designed to keep the dog at a comfortable temperature in any season. If you were to trim the entire coat, it would inhibit this natural heating and cooling system. You should not need to use clippers to trim a Golden Retriever. The edges usually get a lot of fuzzy hair growth, so that needs to be cleanly trimmed away with scissors. Next, trim in between your Golden Retriever's toes. Take your comb and brush up the hair between its toes. Then trim it away at the level of the top of the pup's feet. Then comb it all back down. It should now be above the level of the dog's pads. Also inspect the Golden Retriever's pads while you are focusing on their feet. Apply Vaseline if you find any cracked pads and decide whether your pup needs its nails trimmed. Trim the fur on the back of the dog's legs with your thinning shears. You don't need to remove all the longer fur that grows near their rear end, but you want the coat to look balance and symmetrical. Focus your attention on trimming off fuzzy and unkempt fur. The fur on the back of the legs will be longer than the fur on the front of the legs. The hair on the back of the legs should be a few inches long, flaring out a bit behind the dog, while the fur on the front will lay flat against the dog. Begin by using your thinning shears around the dog's shoulders if a ridge of hair has formed there. Then move your attention to the front of the dog, thinning the hair on its chest until it lies flat. The length of your dog's fur will vary. A Golden Retriever doesn't have a short, tight coat, but instead has some length to it. When trimming your dog's coat, focus more on trimming fuzzy and unkempt fur, instead of trimming to a specific length. If you are unsure if you have removed enough hair, comb the coat out and see if the coat is lying flat. The goal is to have a nice flat coat that is balanced and symmetrical. As you trim, move the thinning shears with the direction of the growth. Using the thinning shears to trim the neck and chest will give the dog a more natural look. Thin the fur around the front and back of the ears. This will be important to keeping your dog's ears healthy. Then trim the fur on the ears, taking stray hairs off the top of them with the thinning shears. Don't make the tail fur too short. You just want to trim the length by tapering it from the base to the tip, using thinning shears to make it look natural. Get this from Amazon here. Brush Your Golden Retriever Brushing your Golden Retriever before you give them a bath is like picking up toys off the floor before you vacuum. It gets the knots, mats, dead fur, and some of the dirt out so that you can get in there and clean the healthy fur. Click here to read about the best brushes for Golden Retrievers. Next, start cleaning them with the shampoo. Read this article for more information about which type of shampoo is best for your Golden Retriever. Their coats are thick and easily trap soap — and if that happens, it can lead to skin problems. Dry them off with a towel as much as you can microfiber towels work really well , then use a dog blow dryer to get even more water out of their coats. Pro tip: to get your dog used to the blow dryer take it step by step. Golden Retrievers have a double coat that protects them from both the cold and the heat. Yes, even in the hot summer, their double coat keeps them cool, so never shave them. Another issue is that furry pads can cause them to not get good traction on wood or tile floors, which can also cause joint issues. Clip their paw fur to be about even with their pads. After this step, grooming their coat is finally finished! We accidentally cut the very end of the quick once with Oliver and were very thankful we had some of this powder with us we felt terrible and yes, Oliver got lots of treats as an apology. Goldens have big, floppy ears that are adorable, but can sometimes cause ear infections because they easily trap in moisture and heat. Clean their ears with ear cleaner for dogs and some cotton balls. Brush Their Teeth The final part of grooming your Golden is to brush their teeth. This kit has a toothbrush, a brush to slip over your finger, and toothpaste for dogs: Now the next question you probably have is this: how often do I need to groom my dog? Other Goldens with lots of fluff may need to be brushed more often. Before I go out on a walk with Oliver, I take the brush out and leave it on the doorstep. Now a lot of people ask about deshedding their Golden Retriever with a tool such as the Furminator. And finally, one more tip about brushing your Golden is to take this opportunity of brushing and rubbing them all over to check for lumps, cuts, or any other abnormal spots. You can learn more about the best brushes for Golden Retrievers here. How Often To Bathe Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers have natural oils that protect their skin and coats, so bathing them too often can strip them of this oil and leave their skin prone to drying out or getting infections. Most people bathe their Golden retrievers every months. Learn more about how to give your Golden Retriever a bath here. We use this ear cleaner for Oliver. For example, a dog that runs or walks on concreate will naturally grind their nails down more than one that only walks on grass, dirt, or carpet. First, make sure that their pads are not dry or cracked. Walking on hot concrete or road salt are two things that can cause this to happen. If you notice this happening, talk to your veterinarian about it. Another thing is to keep an eye on the fur between their pads. In addition to the tips above, you can help take care of their teeth by bringing them in for a teeth cleaning from your veterinarian. Plus, fish oil may already be in their food, so there may be no need to supplement with it. Many people take their Goldens to get professionally groomed every few months. An unhappy 75 lb Golden Retriever in the shower is not easy to manage, but if you groom them often as puppies and pair it with positive rewards such as treats and praise, your puppy will enjoy grooming or at least tolerate it and it will be easy for you. Hair clippers Grooming Table or yoga mat on an old table that can support your dog's weight Begin with a washed, clean dog: Bathe your Golden Retriever and condition their fur to remove mats. You can trim their fur wet or dry, but it's typically easier to do it once they've dried off. If your dog isn't afraid of blow dryers, you can use one to speed up the drying process. Always use a brush before grooming the dog to remove any tangles in their fur. Brushing beforehand will also remove any dirt and debris. Start with the ears: Use your clippers to gently trim the dog's ears, brushing after each pass. You may need to repeat this process, but don't remove all the hair. Instead, the goal is to thin it and make it all an even length. When you're done with the back of the ears, you can move to the front, toward the face. Most dogs won't need much trimming here, and you should never trim the inside of the ear bare. Remember, the fur around the ear is meant to protect it from debris, so you should only trim anything that's longer or out of place. However, most Goldens don't need their back fur trimmed as it will mostly lay flat on their bodies. If you see any out-of-place fur or mats you missed during brushing, you may have to use your clippers to cut it out. Then the tail: A Golden Retriever's tail doesn't need to be trimmed frequently. These dogs have full tails, so there's no reason to dramatically cut the fur on their tail. Instead, you can trim the tail up to the length of the hock, the joint located on the back leg below the knee. Instead, they should have a feathery coat underbelly, elbows, and tail, to keep their look. A Golden Retriever shaved will not have protection from the elements during hot or cold weather. Remember, your Golden Retriever has a double coat that helps regulate their temperature and protect them from the elements. Shaving your dog will not reduce its chances of getting fleas or ticks or reduce shedding. Additionally, if you shave the coat too short, you can damage the hair follicle, so the coat will never properly grow back. Instead, you should groom them with clippers only. Clipping your Golden Retriever's nails When your dog's fur is trimmed, you can move on to nail clipping, as long as they're being tolerant. Depending on your dog's attitude toward grooming, you may have to trim their nails another day since all this attention can be anxiety-inducing for some dogs. When you're ready to begin nail clipping, you'll need to have a set of nail clippers. There are several types of nail clippers to choose from, including: Guillotine Clippers: These clippers allow you to place your dog's nail inside the hole, and the blade comes across the nail like the blade of a guillotine. Unfortunately, these clippers aren't right for every dog because they can be dull and cause pressure that breaks the nail. Additionally, it can be difficult for you to get your dog's nail in the hole. Scissor Clippers: Scissor clippers are another popular choice because they work like scissors and are ideal for large dogs with thick nails. These clippers allow you to cleanly cut the nail, but they require precision. Nail Grinders: Nail grinders are another popular option if your dog doesn't like nail clippers. Grinders are safer than nail clippers because you won't risk cutting your dog if they move. Instead, they can safely grind away nails. However, one drawback of nail grinders is that the sound can be off-putting to dogs, so they'll need to get used to the noise and vibration of the machine. Additionally, shortening the nails takes much longer, so if your dog has long nails, you're better off using clippers to shorten the nail and grinders to maintain the nails once they're short enough. Unfortunately, many pet parents find it difficult to clip their dog's nails at home, but knowing how to trim your dog's nails is still important because it can help you save money at the groomer's or vet's office. Still, your vet will be willing to do it for you for an extra fee if you need the help. Additionally, you can take your dog to the groomers, where they have tricks and treats to help dogs feel calmer while getting their nails trimmed. When trimming your dog's nails at home, the most important thing to remember is to avoid the quick. Cutting too far into the nail can cut the quick, causing bleeding and pain for your dog, leaving them susceptible to infection. If your dog has dark nails and you can't see the quick, you can look at the underside of the claw and cut off a short portion of the nail. Golden Retriever ear cleaning Since Golden Retrievers are prone to ear infections due to allergies or wet ears after a bath or swim, it's important to clean their ears every few weeks. After the bath is a good time to clean their ears because it's possible you've accidentally gotten water in them, and cleaning will remove the water and dry up the ears to prevent infection. However, even if you don't bathe your dog, you should plan to regularly clean their ears and monitor them for signs of infection. There are several types of ear cleaners on the market, so talk to your vet about the options best for your pet. Once you have an ear-cleaning solution in hand, you can pour a few drops into your dog's ears and massage it. Your dog will then shake their head, so you might see wax or ear-cleaning solution fly out. Having a towel on hand will help you keep the mess to a minimum. Unfortunately, some dogs are sensitive about their ears, especially if they've had or currently have an ear infection. Ear infections are incredibly painful for dogs, so if you're trying to get drops in an infected ear, your dog may try to fight or avoid you. Since all dogs need their ears cleaned regularly, you should get your dog used to ear drops as soon as possible. Reward-based training can help them associate the experience with something positive, making the process easier for everyone. While these items can remove some plaque, they're not as effective as regular brushing at removing plaque. Taking good care of your dog's oral health by brushing their teeth regularly can prevent serious illnesses. Unfortunately, most dogs don't like having their teeth brushed, so starting early in life is important to help them learn to tolerate it. Luckily, you can try a variety of toothbrushes designed for dogs, including a finger toothbrush that allows you to massage their gums while brushing their teeth. Of course, in addition to daily brushing, your dog's teeth should be examined by a vet annually. Depending on your dog's oral health, you may also consider professional teeth cleaning to remove plaque and tartar to prevent dental disease. Final Notes Golden Retrievers are ideal family pets that make great companions. However, even though they have fun-loving and playful personalities, they still require proper care and grooming. Due to their double coat, Goldens are higher maintenance dogs than other breeds. However, all dogs need to be groomed to prevent serious health problems. Everything from brushing their fur to trimming their nails and cleaning their ears is necessary and can support their overall health. Golden Retriever Grooming Tips: How to Groom a Golden Retriever There is nothing prettier than a Golden Retriever , with their gleaming coat flowing as they move—that is, as long as the dog is well groomed. Thankfully, Golden Retriever grooming does not have to be an arduous task. With some simple tools and minutes a week of brushing, your canine companion can show off their good looks wherever you go. By keeping their coat brushed and combed several times a week, with a bath as needed, shedding will be kept under control, and the development of mats and tangles kept at bay. A dirty, tangled coat is not only unattractive, but it can be uncomfortable for your dog. Tangles pull on sensitive skin and invite sores and irritations to develop. Even if you know how to groom a Golden Retriever under ideal circumstances, if your pet currently has mats and tangles, it is best to have a professional pet groomer remove them for you, then start fresh with regular home care to prevent any future problems. Follow our guide on how to groom a Golden Retriever to keep your Golden looking and feeling their best. Golden Retriever Grooming Supplies The basic Golden Retriever grooming supplies you need for your pet include: a good quality slicker brush a steel comb a spray to help smooth the coat as you work When choosing a brush and comb, you should look for a professional quality tool with nicely finished bristles or teeth. If the bristles and teeth are not smooth, they can scrape the skin and damage the hair. Likewise, this Andis Steel Pet Comb is a professional quality tool that will glide through the coat and give you years of service. I like to use very small training treats, such as Merrick Power Bites Real Texas Beef chewy dog treats , so I can be generous with rewards. Some people keep their grooming tools next to where they sit to watch television and brush their dog while watching a favorite show. Others prefer to brush their pet in a bathroom, laundry room or other space that is not carpeted so they can easily clean the floor afterwards. Start With Spray Begin by spraying the area you will first be working on with a quality coat spray. This will reduce static and help your brush to glide through the coat. A good spray will help get through tangles and leave a pleasing texture and fragrance to the coat. Using Your Slicker Brush I like to work in defined sections—left and right hindquarters, midsection, chest and front legs, head, and tail—to ensure I cover every bit of the dog. For instance, I might spray the left hind leg, and brush everything from the spine down using a slicker brush, focusing on the soft, long hair on the back of the thigh. Spray the area lightly, then use your slicker brush to work in layers, from skin to tip, removing dead coat and small tangles as you go. Pat the brush into the coat, then pull it from the base of the hair outward. Repeat until you have finished that section. Comb It Out Once you have brushed that entire area, go over it with a comb. If you cannot easily get the comb through a section of hair, go back to that area with your spray and slicker brush, then check again with the comb. Begin by wetting your dog completely, down to the skin, with lukewarm-to-cool water, and then use a simple kitchen sponge, moistened, to apply the shampoo. Pay special attention to areas where the fur is longer, paw pads and potty areas. In most cases it is best to give a light rinse, then apply a second round of shampoo, working the product in well. Use water at the temperature you would bathe a baby in and be sure to rinse every bit of shampoo out of the coat. Once you are done, rinse a second time to be sure it is all removed. Shampoo left in the fur can cause skin irritation and attract dirt. Pay special attention to drying the ears to help prevent ear infections. You can use a hair dryer set to low or cool setting and kept at least 6 inches away from the coat to finish up, or allow your dog to air dry in a warm place. Many dogs stand still better for this job when they are in the bathtub. Choose a nail trimmer for larger claws, such as Millers Forge Nail Clipper. If you can see the quick, or the live area inside the nail that features a blood vessel, clip just above that, removing the tip of the nail. Near where the claw begins to curve, towards the tip, the dead section on the underside will be hollow, like a canoe. This hollow area can be safely trimmed. To start, squeeze a few drops of cleaner into the ear. Then gently massage the area under the ear to work the product into the canal. Your dog will probably want to shake their head and body vigorously after this, so be ready with a towel! A little maintenance goes a long way in ensuring your best furry friend not only looks good but feels good. Read more:. This trimming is usually done on the ears, feet, neck and tail for a Golden Retriever to keep them looking smart. When should you start grooming your Golden Retriever puppy? Golden Retriever grooming should begin in their puppy phase to get them used to the process. These double-coated dogs are shedders that will need regular grooming in adult life to stimulate their coats, keep shedding under control and prevent mats and tangles. A Golden Retriever's coat doesn't develop properly until around 18 months, and as a puppy, your dog will have soft hair, which will form the undercoat once the overcoat develops. Get your puppy used to grooming by brushing its hair regularly with a soft-bristled brush, then moving onto a slicker brush as it ages and its coat begins to develop. If you plan on having your puppy professionally groomed, it's recommended to take it for its first trip to the groomer at around eight to twelve weeks old so it can get used to the grooming process and the salon. Golden Retrievers have a double coat which work together to protect your pup in both the winter and the summer months. Even clipping is not advisable with your Golden Retriever as it can hinder the growth of the undercoat later in the year. Instead, keep up with brushing their hair perhaps even doing it more regularly to remove the dead loose hair and regular bathing. Ideally, you need to be looking to purchase a dog shampoo that contains Oatmeal and Vitamin E. Regular brushing will reduce the amount of matting and make each brush a bit easier and softer. Use thinning scissors and begin to trim past where your thumb is, taking small bit by bit. Taking your time this way you should eventually reach your desired length. Recommended Products.

They will also be able to provide you with information on health clearances, temperament testing, and training. How long does it usually take to get a puppy from a breeder? Depending on the breeder, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to get a puppy. This is to ensure that everyone who wants a pup is given a fair shake at getting the one they want. What requirements are there for a future owner of a puppy from a breeder? Most breeders will require that you fill out a questionnaire or application before being considered as an owner. This is to ensure that you are prepared for the responsibility of owning a dog and that you understand the commitment required. Do most breeders health test their dogs, and can I get these records? Yes, most breeders will health test their dogs and provide you with the results. A friend of mine recently bought a puppy from a breeder who assured her that the dogs were health checked by a vet before being allowed to go to their new owners. In addition, all the parent dogs were allegedly checked for genetic conditions. All was well until the pup reached 15 weeks of age. My friend noticed that the puppy seemed to be experiencing discomfort in one of his eyes. The little guy was constantly rubbing at the eye with his paw, and it was inflamed and watery. After carrying out an examination and lots of tests, the vet concluded that the puppy had a form of genetic eye cancer and would most likely finish up losing an eye in the future. Adele contacted the breeder to explain what had happened and ask for proof that the breeder had actually had the parent dogs tested for genetic health conditions. So, I cannot overstress the importance of insisting on visually inspecting the health testing documents before you part with any cash and take a puppy home. What should I expect from a breeder when visiting their home? The dogs should be friendly and well-socialized, and the breeder should be able to answer all of your questions. If there is what looks like a kennel, make sure you see whether they are well-kept. Check out these posts to see our list of top ethical breeders:. Poodles come in many colors, but unfortunately, there is no way to naturally breed a pink Poodle. Those who have pink Poodles actually have a dog that naturally has a white or light apricot color. A pink Poodle walks at the beach. A surprising number of people are interested in pink Poodles. As a result, most Poodles already look unique. The colors a Poodle can come in include black, blue, silver, gray, apricot, cream, white, brown, red, silver beige, and cafe au lait. The most common color is black, but none of the colors are overly rare. Two Poodles are playing at the park. Many believe that the general popularity of Poodles is a result of their status as circus dogs. Specifically, Poodles were popular circus dogs in the early 19th century, and remain so to this day. Back when circuses started becoming popular in the United States in the s, Poodles were a big part of the show. Trainers were able to teach Poodles how to perform a variety of interesting and exciting tricks. At this time, many circus owners would color their light-colored Poodles to draw more attention from the general audience. After all, audiences came to see a spectacle. What could be more spectacular than a Poodle performing tricks with pink hair? Furthermore, as Poodles became more popular, their curly hair allowed groomers to get creative in how they presented them. Different cuts and styles emerged so that each dog could look different. Some haircuts were considered more elegant, so wealthy owners would look to have the most elegant-looking dogs. Dye also was not easy to come by, and owners would flaunt their wealth by using it on their Poodles. Today, many owners around the United States opt to dye their dogs pink. However, they do not do it for the same reasons as owners from the 19th century. Instead, they do it so that their dog stands out. Many owners also believe their dogs like the extra attention they get as a result of their pink hair. A white Poodle dyed with pink. However, it is still smart to be cautious about which products you choose. You should treat them the way you want to be treated! When you do dye your Poodle, you should also take care to keep the dye away from their eyes, nose, mouth, and other sensitive areas. Keep in mind: if it would hurt you, it will hurt your dog, too. One thing that comes up often is the use of food coloring as a substitution for hair dye. You can do this, but you need to be extra cautious. When applying the dye, you need to make sure you take your time. Just think — would you eat straight food-coloring? Probably not! Drying can take a long time, so be prepared to do nothing else for a little while. Unfortunately, it is not possible to dye a black or dark-haired Poodle pink. Only dye the fur of white or light-colored Poodles for the best results. Combing a black Poodle. Final Thoughts Sadly, pink Poodles are not real. Bummer, we know. Just make sure you read and follow all the precautions on the hair dye container, and your best friend will be looking pink and posh in no time. Dying a Poodle Pink Overview Many different dog breeds are dyed by their owners; however it is the Poodle which is dyed most often. In addition, the most popular color is a pink Poodle. The Poodle breed has the reputation of being graceful, elegant and lively…. A dog that is pampered like a prince or princess… And whether male or female, it is the pink Poodle that gets the most attention. Is This Safe for the Dog? Must a Poodle be white for this to work? The different ways in which this can be done Instructions on how to create a pink Poodle Is This Legal? When done properly, dyeing the coat of a dog is very safe, non-toxic, does not dry out the coat and it is temporary. However, it is not legal to do so in some areas. There is not a countrywide law regarding this…. In the United States, being able to create a pink Poodle or any other color is decided by city level. For example, in Boulder Colorado, there is a city ordinance that prohibits the coloring or dyeing of any animal. Owners who live in that town and have done so, have been severely fined and in at least 1 case, arrested for doing so. The reason that this legislation was drawn up was to discourage people from coloring chickens and rabbits for the Easter holiday. Because it was not written to specify chickens and rabbits, it therefore includes all dogs, including the Poodle. For this reason, if you are thinking about having a pink Poodle, do please first check with your local town or city hall to find out if there are any restrictions to this practice. Is This Safe? When done properly and with great care, this is safe. While there are no official studies done on the long term effects of creating a pink Poodle… proper dyeing includes using non-toxic substances that do NOT block any air flow and is universally considered to be safe. There is, of course, always a chance of an allergic reaction, however this can be said for any food fed to a dog, any laundry detergent used to clean dog bedding, etc. Care must be taken when coloring around the Poodle's ears however, as allowing the dye or water to enter the ear canal can cause an ear infection. A solid white Poodle will be much easier to color. However, with some experimentation, a light colored Poodle can also be made to be a pink Poodle. As you can imagine, a very dark dog, such as a black Poodle cannot be dyed pink. The darker the dog, the less that the pink color will stand out. The Different Ways in Which This Can be Done There are basically 5 choices you can choose from if you wish for a pink Poodle: 1 You can have a professional dog groomer do this, preferably one who has experience in doing so. While you would assume that a non-toxic product would be used, be sure to still ask questions about the safety of the paint and any possible side effects. Many will come with pre-cut designs which are essentially stencils that are held up to the coat. It's best to have a helper so that one person can hold the stencil and the other can do the painting. Most paints will be in the form of sprays. Be careful when using this around your Poodle's face. This is the method that was used long before commercial pet painting products were marketed. This type of product is also manufactured to temporarily add colored stripes to human hair. This is another 'old school' method that was used to make a Poodle pink long before commercial pet paints came out on the market. Note: You may hear of other methods; some may not be safe at all. It is important to use a dye method that is proven to not clog skin pores, interfere with a dog's breathing or his ability to move, etc. And in all cases, a dog may still have an unexpected reaction. How to Make a Pink Poodle with the Chalking Method Many people are aware of using food coloring to do this, however another increasingly popular method is to use colored chalk. The main reason that this is used is if the owner wishes for the color to be able to rinse out rather quickly. In most cases, when using this method, the color will steadily rinse out anywhere from 3 days to 2 months. One downside to this, is that if you are going to use more than 1 color, such as making the ear fringes pink and the pompons blue, there is a good chance that the colors will transfer, run and blend when you are bathing your Poodle or even if your dog is out in the rain for too long. For this reason, it is suggested to only use this method if you wish to create a solid pink Poodle. What You Will Need. Small Smallest Hip Dysplasia: Hip dysplasia is a painful disease that occurs when the bones in the back legs do not fit correctly in the joints. While some dogs will exhibit symptoms, the majority of canines will not. Hip dysplasia is primarily inherited, although it may also be caused by accidents, excessive weight gain, and incorrect activity. Though this illness is life-threatening, there are a variety of therapies available, including medication and surgical hip replacement. Progressive Retinal Atrophy: It is an age-related eye disease that affects the photoreceptors. Due to the degradation of the photoreceptor cells, the afflicted dog will eventually go blind. Small breed dogs are prone to Legg Calve Perthes. It leads to arthritis or the loss of ability if the severity develops. This leads to lameness in the leg or an abnormal gait, like a hop or a skip. This condition is caused by birth, although the actual misalignment or luxation does not always occur much later. The rubbing caused by patellar luxation leads to arthritis. There are 4 patellar luxation grades, ranging from phase I, an occasional luxation causing unstable lameness in the joint, to grade IV, where the turning of the tibia is heavy, and the patella cannot be realigned manually. This gives your dog a bow-legged appearance. Uphill grades of patellar luxation may require surgery. Corneal Dystrophy: Corneal Dystrophy is an inherited illness that affects the corneal layers of the eyes. It is not a painful ailment, although some pink poodles exhibit signs of forming an opaque coating. Epilepsy: Seizures are common in Idiopathic epilepsy, typically hereditary, and can range from mild to severe. Seizures can be identified by unusual behaviors such as frantically fleeing as if being pursued, tripping, or hiding. Seizures are frightening, but idiopathic epilepsy in dogs has a reasonably good long-term prognosis. Seizures can be caused by various factors other than idiopathic epilepsy, such as metabolic disorders, brain respiratory illnesses, malignancies, toxin poisoning, and severe head trauma. Sebaceous Adenitis: Standard poodles are more susceptible to the illness, with estimates suggesting that half of all Standard Poodles are carriers. Sebaceous Adenitis is a difficult-to-diagnose genetic disease frequently misdiagnosed as hypothyroidism, asthma, or other ailments. Sebum is produced by the sebaceous gland, which protects the coat. Secondary skin infections and skin thickness might occur in severe instances. The main sign is excessive bleeding after ablation or surgery. Nosebleeds, bleeding gums, and intestinal or bowel bleeding are some of the symptoms and consequences. There is no cure, and the only thing that can help is a blood transfusion from healthy dogs. The development of new treatments, including medicine, is underway. A veterinarian should test your dog for the illness. Consistency with the treatment and regular veterinary check ups can cure this condition. Pink Poodle Diet and Nutrition 1. However, it is best to consult a veterinarian for a diet chart for your Pink Poodle. They are not suited to living in the open or being trapped in a shelter. Despite their thick coat, they have little tolerance to intense cold. If you have a Poodle, keep them away from extremes of heat and cold. As long as they are with you, they can adapt well to apartment living and compact living areas. Tri-color Poodles, for example, will attract many buyers and can be overpriced. Puppies with the lineage of show champions will be costly.

However, it is the red Poodle that is so rare, so stunning and so special. Bringing this color into the Poodle genes and being able to produce such a shocking and beautiful dog was not easy. Let's take a look at how this was done and what you should know about his particular dog. Red poodles are rare and are of a faded gene. When they are produced, the pups usually come from dogs with apricot lines, which can be confusing to many since of course red is a much darker and deeper color. This gene may work to darken an apricot or sometimes a brown coat. One thing that is clear is that the red gene has absolutely no affect on blacks. The apricot gene is recessive to all Poodles except for the white. A true red will have black points. Liver points are acceptable but not preferred in the U. It took quite a while to achieve the amazing red Poodles that we see today. It was Ilse Konig of the Shangri-La Kennel who first came up with the idea of developing a red color standard. Experimental breeding was done by mating a small miniature apricot female Poodle to a large standard sized red at Palamares. The very first litter produced four red Poodle puppies. It is said that the color was simply amazing. Due to the rare pairing of two different sized Poodles, this placed the dogs into a category that is between the Miniature and the Standard, called the Klein or Moyan, which is popular and recognized in Europe. The biggest puppy from each litter was then bred…And this is what helped to slowly increase the size of the dog. After quite a few years of breeding and keeping red Poodle puppies, red Standards were then able to be bred relatively easily. Reds can go through many color changes as the dog grows. They occasionally are born a very bright red and then lighten over time. Some will stay lighter, however in some cases the Poodle will then darken up again as he or she ages. When a red does lighten, the color will usually become a sort of cinnamon color. In most cases, they are exceptionally dark and then lighten between 1 year old and 18 months old. Since a color change can occur during puppyhood.Or in the later adult stages, this means that the owner of an Apricot or tan my have a huge surprise if their Poodle's coat develops into this amazing, bright and rare color. So, do be aware that a red Poodle can fade, as fading is common with this breed. The exceptional color that one may see in a young puppy will often change with time; although this is not to say that the adult coat will not be gorgeous in its own right. When one does know that they have a red, here are the most popular names that are given: Amber. The path to producing such a shocking and stunning dog was not easy. In this article, we are going to cover everything there is to know about red poodles. What is a Red Poodle? A true red poodle has black points. Liver points are accepted by not preferred, especially in the United States. Many people do not know that red poodles came from the apricot poodle bloodline. This is usually hard to believe because red poodles have a much darker and richer color than the more faded look of an apricot. Red poodles are a new color in the breed. They only officially became recognized by the AKC in .In Canada some breeders joined to form the Apricot Red Poodle Club in order to up hold the high standards set for breeding red poodles. However, it does appear that red poodles have a separate gene that makes them fundamentally different from apricot poodles. One thing that breeders have come to understand is that the gene involved in darkening the coat of an apricot poodle does not have an effect on black poodles. In fact, the apricot gene is a recessive gene to all poodle colors except for white. Where do Red Poodles Come From? Red poodles have an interesting history. Ilse Konig was the first person to develop a red color. The color was first developed by taking a large male standard poodle and breeding it with an apricot female miniature poodle. Through the years the red poodle was developed more and more through careful, selective breeding Since breeding poodles of different sizes is quite rare the litters from these pairings were placed into a new category called the Klein or Moyan. These categories are or popular in Europe than anywhere else. Essentially this created a size in between the standard and miniature. Over time, the breeding of the largest dogs from each litter allowed for the standard-sized reds that we see today. As a result, standard-sized reds are now much easier to breed. Now, as a result, we have red poodles in every poodle size. Some of the earliest of the reds were known to be a bit more feisty and aggressive than those reds we have today. This is in part due to the breeding of standard with a miniature and also due to some breeders only focusing on breeding for color only. There was also a certain amount of inbreeding that occurred among some breeders. These temperament challenges are largely a thing of the past and reputable breeders produce calm loving reds. As you can see, one of the biggest challenges in developing the red color was to also take into consideration other qualities that make a well-bred poodle. These qualities include health, temperament, beauty, and conformation. Do Red Poodles Change in Color? Usually, when red puppies are born, they have a deep, rich red color. Typically, when they are about 6 weeks old their coat will begin to fade a little bit. About 4 Weeks later a sharp red line will be visible next to the skin if you part their hair. This is where the new coat will come in. It can be quite exciting for new red puppy owners to see. One of the interesting things about red poodles is that their coats can, and will, go through many changes over the course of their life. It is not uncommon or their coats to go from lighter to darker, to lighter and back to a darker shade. Every red poodle has its own unique color of red. There is really no way to know how their coat will change over time. Some reds retain a dark rich color while others may brighten or lighten over time. If the pedigree of a red poodle contains lots of diluted color breeding Especially blue, silver or cafe and also cream and apricot then there is a high chance that they will fade upon maturity. Like many other breeds of dogs, red poodles can change color. When looking for a breeder take a close look at the poodles they have bred in the past. This will give you a better idea of what to expect. But remember each red poodle is different. Standard Red Poodles Standard Poodles are by far the most common, most well-known, arguably the most sought-after side poodle. One thing that sets the red pool apart from other colors is simply just how rare of a sight it is. Red standard poodles are among the most majestic, regal, and stunning of the breed. They must be 15 inches in height or higher at the withers to be considered a standard. They can weight anywhere between 45 to 75 pounds. There is actually a slight difference in their appearance. They can take on a slightly more square appearance. Miniature red poodles are from 10 to 15 in height with an average weight of about 20 pounds. This size poodle takes on more of a square appearance in terms of proportion. These dogs super sporty and love outdoor activities. They are fast, agile, and eager to please. Did we mention fun-loving and amusing? Owners should have very little trouble training these dogs as they are extremely intelligent. For many families, the miniature red poodle is just the right size. Not too big, not too small, with just the right amount of cuteness! Toy Red Poodles Red toy poodles are like mini balls of red fur. Like other colored toy poodles, they grow up to 10 inches in height and usually weight between pounds. Between the miniature and standard sized poodles, toy poodles are the smallest of the three. They are among some of the cutest and most adorable toy dogs you can find. Even though they are small in size they have big personalities and a ton of energy. They are also available in beautiful, deep, rich reds and lighter cinnamon shades as well. One thing to consider when getting a red toy poodle is the extra bit of care that comes with taking care of a dog this size. Because of its small size, extra care must be given to keep an eye on any size related healh issues. But wow when you do find one I must say they are some of the cutest, most adorable, tiny red poodles you have ever seen. Now to be clear, red teacup poodles are technically toy poodles but much smaller in size. They can also sometimes be prone to health issues and can require extra care and attention. You must take great care in finding a reputable breeder to ensure that your pup will be healthy and resilient. Does the weather affect coat color? But it really just depends on your poodle. Generally, the sun has a more profound impact on light and white-colored poodles. Typically, you will find that their coat maybe becomes a little brighter or lighter than normal. If it does happen to bother you, not to worry. You can simply let it grow out a little bit and then trim off lighter bits. For those red poodles that have a deep, rich red colored coach they will be largely unaffected by sunlight. Does age affect coat color? There are situations where a poodle can also become darker over time as well but it is less common. Red poodles can be fickle in that way. It is common for red poodles In their senior years to fade in color and become lighter and lighter. What to look for when choosing a Red Poodle? When choosing a red poodle there are several things that you must pay very close attention to. If you find red, apricot and even a couple black poodles in the family tree then you are on the right track. If you have the opportunity to observe the parents of the litter they may also give you some signs as to what kind temperament your puppy might have. Does the breeder keep the area clean and neat? Is there a strong odor of urine or feces present? Are there other pets on the property? What kind of condition are they? Do they appear to be well cared for, clean and or groomed? A truly dedicated breeder will have a system in place for breeding dogs and will often be greatly involved in showing dogs. They will have good records and documents on previous litters, health certificates, and vaccinations, etc. If you do your homework, you would have found a skilled experienced breeder and not a backyard quick money operation. Ann Dowd as Dr. The site's critical consensus reads, "Pet owners should love it, but Marley and Me is only sporadically successful in wringing drama and laughs from its scenario. Fox has a winner here, likely to be irresistible to almost everyone but cats.Animated and emotionally accessible, Aniston comes off better here than in most of her feature films, and Wilson spars well with her, even if, in the film's weaker moments, he shows he's on less certain ground with earnest material than he is with straight-faced impertinence. Dog lovers won't care, and that basically is the audience for the film. From Fox's standpoint, it may be enough. As directed by David Frankel, though, it's also something more: a disarmingly enjoyable, wholehearted comic vision of the happy messiness of family life. Things could get mushier or sillier, but Frankel and screenwriters Scott Frank and Don Roos—who usually handle grittier material—decline to play the easy, crowd-pleasing game. Their faith in Grogan's simple tale of loyalty among people and pets is unique, and it pays off. It's so warmhearted, you'll want to run out and hug the nearest big, sloppy mutt. And those who endorse this belief will enjoy this shaggy dog story. The anecdotal structure does not make for a gripping movie. For one thing, there's no conflict, unless you count the tension between a guy and his untrainable pooch. Yet Marley boasts animal magnetism. But often very funny and occasionally very moving.
