He is a true velcro Boxer and want to be with you and cuddle. If he can't cuddle, he will be at your side, waiting for your attention and to look into your soul with those big, chocolate eyes. He wants to do whatever you do and be where you are. He is such a joy to be with. He had a good life before his previous owner, so he was already neutered and knew manners and commands. He is very smart and love treats, so I he picks new things up fast. He is house broken and know to stop something if mom says "uh-uh no" or "leave it" in her firm voice. He doesn'tt chew anything and doesn't counter surf. He only barks at delivery people. Chance can share his people, toys, and his bed, but please let him have his food to himself - he didn't always have food and worries. Chance knows the up and down commands, though he won't get on furniture unless you tell me it is okay each time. He also know sit, stay, come, and shake. Chance walk easy on a leash and loves his walks. He corrects easy with voice commands and gentle pressure on the leash. Sometimes, something fun to chase goes by and he wants to get it. He uses a harness and that helps him learn not to do that. He is already much better at it, except with cats and rabbits - those are too exciting. Some of his favorites include car rides, walks, being outdoors, toys, and cuddling. Part of his past was being crated all day, every day without bathroom breaks, enough food, or play time. So please let him play often, with lots of exercise. Also, Chance can not ever be crated at home, the vet or boarding except in emergencies and with medication. Crating triggers panic attacks for him specifically because of his past. The good thing is, he is such a good boy free roam, you don't need to crate him! Chance very much likes dogs and wants to play, but his foster Boxer brother is really old and can't play. He plays with his people and neighbor dogs. Chance does a good job, but can miss some doggie signals and will need help learning all of them for playtime. He acts like a big puppy, so he could knock down or step on little children with his zoomies. He does love all the rubs, pets, hugs, cuddles, ear smooshing, kisses, and scratches you can dish out. He also is happy to be lifted for a bath, car ride, or vet exam, though. We know some of the abuse in Chance's past was done by a man. He is scared of some men - not all men, but certain actions done by men trigger memories. He is not scared of the women and kids he has met. It took Chance a few days to trust him, but I love my foster dad now. He now trusts that his foster family will only let safe people in the house and will steer wide of men on walks doing any of those scary things like swinging a tool or carrying a load overhead. I am a veterinary assistant. We live in Rockanje, close to Rotterdam, The Netherlands. When Krijn and I where living together for just one week we already knew: We wanted a dog. A French Bulldog to be precise. At the time we already have fallen in love with the breed. We decided to go looking for a dog that needed to be rehomed. On the French Bulldog Forum we found her: Quinta. A beautiful girl that was just 6 years old. It was a bitch with FCI pedigree, but she was bred in a totally different way than we have in mind. Quinta was always outside in a cage. When she had puppies we suspect in every heat she could go inside the house. Looking at her behavior, we could not help but noticing her previous owners were not always nice to her. We were totally in love with her, and thankfully, she was totally in love with us. She learned a lot with us and was taught that people could be trusted and nice. So delightful to see a dog becoming so relaxed en comforted. Quinta developed to be a great dog, and we were addicted! Addicted to the breed. So we decided to take a puppy, Tyke was his name. When we bought Tyke, we did not have any breeding plans. But Tyke grew to be an athletic and healthy French Bulldog. Every now and then we participated in dog shows. Because Tyke exercised a lot in agility we decided to x-ray him. It became clear that he also looked good on the inside! Then everything started. Tyke was asked to be bred. My interest in the breeding world became larger and larger, as did my hunger to knowledge. During my hunt for information it became clearer and clearer to me that the road many breeders have gone was nothing for us. Information was not shared, and often the motives to breed are not in favor of the health of the dogs, or the breed overall. In Memoriam: Quinta Arount that time Quinta got worse. The consequences of her uninterested breeders became more obvious. Quinta was 8 years old and she could not run for an extended period of time. Halfway through our daily long walk she needed help. She could not keep up anymore. Quinta had a bad spine, wich is a big problem within the French Bulldogs. Because of her many litters and maybe collateral calcium insufficiency the condition of her spine was even worsened. On the day of her ninth birthday she lost control over her back legs. With pain killers and excercising she could be with us for a few more weeks. After that she relapsed. We had to euthanise her. I am still very grateful for all that Quinta has given us. She made us fall in love with French Bulldogs. Because of her I have a lot more insight in the abnormalities that occur within the breed. Breeding with wrong motives and to not look out for the best interest of the dog. It is terrible to see your beloved dog like this. I hope no other dog has to feel the pain that she must have felt during her whole life. She has been the biggest motivation in my passion to help the breed get better and healthier. After a while we went for the lookout. We wanted a girl that fitted into our vision in breeding. Bloodlines were searched and all over the world I came in touch with people that know the breed very well. Over a year we searched intensively. And there she was: Bulls of Crown Enchilada , we call her Yara. While she grew up she showed everything that we were searching for! In the meantime I had learnt a lot extra about genetics and health testing, and the abnormalities that occur within the breed. When Yara became 16 months old she underwent a lot of extensive health tests. Wich tests we execute and why is explained on this page. Yara is nowhere near perfect, but a perfect dog still has to be born. Early our home got a wonderful addition in Lucy. We are open about possible abnormalities that our breeding dogs have, and also that of the male we use for breeding. Our kennel is born out of frustration. Frustration about the mysteries that are kept in breeders, about the overall health of the breed and even about the individual dogs. Frustration that one seems to find some abnormalities totally normal. Frustration because often there is no transparency about the diseases that are within the breed, or that they keep their mouth shut on purpose about it. We do not claim to know it all. The only thing we can do is promise that we will try our utmost best to breed healthy French Bulldogs. That is what we aspire. That is what we stand for. About Hawbucks And then we must look for a kennel name that fits our needs. What name do we want dogs bred by us to carry? By all means it had to be something tough and sturdy, because French Bulldogs are no types for an elegant name. They are rude and ignorant. By coincidence the name Hawbuck showed up somewhere. Hawbuck is typical French Bulldog! It is an old American word. An unmannerly lout; a clown. This is totally fitting for a French Bulldog! French Bulldogs are not supposed to have sweet elegant names, because they are nowhere near elegant dogs! For example: they walk your socks off when they see something they want to go to. Often tricky to keep motivated to work together. In every breed discription you will find that French Buldogs are true clowns. And they really are. Not a day goes by that they do not make me smile. So the dogs that are bred by us will carry the name Hawbucks. And we are quite proud of that! What are we doing to improve the health of French Bulldogs? Aria Aria is the Alpha female of our pack. An extremely muscular and athletic 32lbs. She loves to swim and play fetch. She is best known for her adorable face that captures the hearts of everyone she meets. This little one is the funniest pup out there. She is so affectionate, playful, confident, curious and absolutely loves other dogs, especially other Frenchies! The first frenchie litter. We are so happy we decided to get two of them. They are exact opposites and keep us constantly entertained. We also have a 2 year old son, Keegan. We have loved seeing Angus and Duke grow to love Keegan. Keegan is now part of there little pack! They are so patient and gentle with Keegan. In fact our crazy frenchie, Angus, is obsessed with soccer balls. It's impossible to over power and take one away from him. I was shocked to see Angus only giving up his balls for Keegan! Keegan also always wants Angus and Duke to join him on his trampoline and they love it!! We love seeing them interact together. The frenchies are definitely a big part of our family and we wouldn't have it any other way!! We our a busy Family environment all pups are showing great temperaments. Golden Retrievers tend to act like they are starving and eat too fast, even at their correct weight. These bowls slow them down so that they will come closer to chewing their food than inhaling it. I like to use buckets instead of bowls for water. Puppies love to dig in their water which makes a mess out of it. Hang the bucket on the outside of the crate by the handle that is on the bucket. Then attach the clip for security by using only one side of the clip to attach the handle to the crate. Leave the other end of the clip just hanging. Never put water inside a crate with a dog. I recommend the 2-quart size for one or two big dogs. This size is also a good size for a puppy. I use two snaps to stabilize the bucket. Though wire crates usually have a divider so that you can size the crate down, we recommend that you go ahead and purchase a 24 inch wire crate along with the correct size for your dog when he is grown. I prefer the crate with the double door because you will have the opportunity to use it turned sideways with the entrance on the side as well as the end. The Icrates are also two inches shorter and two inches narrower than the Life Stages crate. They are larger at the bottom than the top so they fit better in the back of an SUV or van. They are crash tested and have excellent safety records. These crates are a bit difficult to set up and take down so we only recommend them for those that want a crate that stays in a vehicle most of the time. They are perfect for families that take their dogs with them a lot and want a somewhat permanent fixture in their vehicle. This is a raised cot-like bed that is cool and comfortable. There is a new Kuranda Bed that we have not tried ourselves but it looks amazing. It is a raised cot like the aluminum bed that we have loved for years but it is sized to fit perfectly into a crate! We have purchased both the aluminum as well as the less-expensive PVC Kuranda beds. Our aluminum beds still look brand new but our PVC beds are starting to warp a little after a few years. We like the Ballistic Nylon fabric which has held up for us for several years. The large is the correct size for both boy and girl Goldens. We have two of them and they are as comfortable as many human beds. We have the extra-large size but a large would be plenty big enough for a girl. At first, your puppy will have to be watched almost every minute when they are out of the crate or pen in order to establish good potty habits and also to teach them not to chew. Until you teach them otherwise, some puppies will try to chew everything, including the furniture and even the woodwork on the walls so I have found the pen to be a huge help. If you get a pen, you need to begin training your puppy not to jump on the sides right away. Never pet your puppy or let him out while he is jumping. Reward him for sitting. They open and close easily and in both directions. The Richell Pens look really super nice. They also can be set up as room dividers. We own at least a dozen sets of these pens and have used them in a large number of configurations. However, like most exercise pens, many puppies will eventually learn to climb or jump out of them. Families must be on top of training their puppy not to jump on the sides. Unlike the Richell pen, most, if not all pens have doors that open in only one direction. If you get one of these pens, set your pen up so that the door opens to the outside. If you are getting your puppy from a breeder other than Summer Brook, plastic pens are a good option for a 7 to 10 week old puppy. It is easier to house train if you start off not allowing your puppy in too large of an area. I reserve the times when they are free in the house to the 30 minutes right after they have pottied. We highly recommend it. If you have a particularly aggressive chewer then I would buy the Extreme Kong but if your dog is average then I would use a Classic Kong. She should have already had her initial introduction to her lifetime of being groomed. Your goldendoodle puppy should visit a professional groomer for the first time after her week immunizations. Since she will need regular grooming throughout her life, both she and her groomer will benefit if she is accustomed to being groomed from a young age. The first big girl or big boy haircut The wavy, curly adult coat will start replacing the soft, fluffy puppy coat around months of age. Waiting to cut the hair until the adult coat makes its debut beneath the layers of puppy fur helps ensure that the adult coat remains soft. Poodle groomers and poodle fanciers claim that shaving a poodle or goldendoodle down before her adult coat starts coming in could damage the adult coat, affecting the texture. Take your goldendoodle puppy for her first full big girl haircut at months of age, once her adult coat has started coming in. As aforementioned, take her to the groomer for a puppy clip after her week immunizations. Get Your Puppy Started with Weekly Grooming Maintenance Regardless of the coat type, before you start full-on grooming a goldendoodle puppy,they need to get used to regular brushings and the sounds of the grooming table blowers, clippers, etc. Go ahead and blow dry them a little bit after each bath. If you have clippers or beard trimmers, turn on the clippers and let your goldendoodle get used to the sound. Bring the clippers close to their fur in different places, their head, legs, feet. Give your doodles dog treats while the blower or clippers are going so your doodle develops a positive association with those sounds. Brushing your goldendoodle puppy at least once a week is very important. The earliest grooming a goldendoodle puppy needs is often an eye, ear and sanitary trim. When their hair starts getting in their eyes, or fuzzing out their ears, and when poop residue starts clinging to their fur near their butt, your doodle is ready for their first light grooming. Amber is a 5 month old F1 Goldendoodle Puppy. With our puppies that often happens at about weeks of age. You can either take them to the groomer to get this done, or, if you are more of a DIYer like we are, you can do this at home. A little trim around the eyes, a light buzz on the inside of the ears with a small trimmer like this one and some scissor clipping around their potty areas might be enough to tide you over until their coat is thick enough for their first official grooming. Just be careful because doodles can be bouncy. We use safety tip grooming scissors that have rounded ends for the areas around their face. A scissor clip will even her coat out a bit. With that nice coat, we want her to be used to regular grooming and the grooming table as well. Our doodles seem to need their first grooming at about 5 months old, but puppies with an especially thick, full coat, may need it sooner. Puppies with thinner coats, may be able to go longer than that. We do most of our own grooming, when possible. We prefer the longer, shaggier look on our goldendoodles, so we prefer to start with scissor clipping when grooming a goldendoodle puppy. Scissor clipping is all Amber needs for now. A grooming table makes all the difference. We use the large Flying Pig Brand. Grooming a goldendoodle puppy takes skill, but Violet 16 has learned her grooming techniques by watching Youtube videos. Amber feels good and looks so much cleaner and neater after getting all that puppy fuzz off. Dogs with long ears can have more ear trouble as the hair grows and gets trapped in their ears. Once this happens, moisture is retained and yeast and other bacteria can become a problem. Part of your weekly grooming maintenance should be checking their ears and using an ear wash. We use Zymox Otic and use that for 3 or 4 days. Brownie has those long, floppy doodle ears that need regular cleanings to keep yeast growth at bay.
