FANT performed very nice tracking with 90 points. His obedience was very happy from beginning to the end and because of some innacuracies he earned 75 points. His protection was very strong and confident and was evaluated with 88 points. FANT was the younges dog that took part in the competition. Being of show type — also known as English type — is sometimes associated with a particular kind of temperament too. This temperament may be passed onto English Labradoodle puppies. What Is An English Labradoodle? If someone tells you they have an English Labradoodle, they could just mean they have a Labradoodle from England. This is most likely if they themselves have relocated from England. English Labradors are not necessarily Labradors from England. They are Labs from particular breeding lines, which match a particular type. They are also known as show-type, or bench-type Labradors, because they are bred for the purpose of being highly suitable to enter dog shows. English Labradoodle Appearance English Labradors are notable for being more heavy set and broader looking than their working cousins. Especially in their face, which tends to be slightly wider and more blocky than that of an American Labrador also known as working type, and having little to do with nationality. Their muzzle is frequently a little shorter too, and the stop the point where the muzzle meets the forehead is more pronounced. English Labradors also tend to cluster at the bottom of the natural Labrador height range, but at the top of the range for weight. Otter tails start wide at the base and taper to a point. Many working Labs now have a tail which is slender all the way down instead. An English Labradoodle can also inherit some of the traditional English Labrador traits. So they may be shorter, more heavy set, and have a more Labrador-like face than a Labradoodle with an American Lab parent. English Labradoodle Traits What about temperament? Well, English Labrador personality is also slightly distinct from American Labrador personality. Or to come equipped with endless physical and mental stamina. In fact, it helps if they have quite laid back temperaments, and patiently tolerate long periods of waiting for the next thing to happen. An English Labradoodle may have a very similar temperament. They are more likely to do so than a Labradoodle from working Labrador lines. But, they can also inherit some or many traits from their Poodle parent. Poodles are clever and active. They have a long history of working as gundogs and circus dogs, and they are regarded as being amongst the quickest breeds in the world at learning new commands. An English Labradoodle with these traits will be far from placid! English Labradoodle Health Unfortunately, very few studies of Labrador health distinguish between whether the subjects were English or American Labs. Generally, the health problems Labradors are most prone to are: Joint diseases. Particularly hip and elbow dysplasia. Labradors are the only breed known to carry a specific genetic mutation which causes excessive appetite. Ear infections. Their heavy, hanging ears, coupled with their love of swimming is a recipe for infections of pesky bacteria which love the warm, moist environment inside their ears. Atopic dermatitis. An itchy skin rash caused by an allergic reaction to something in their environment. And thyroid disease. Poodles are also prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, thyroid disease, and problems associated with sensitive skin. English Labradoodles are vulnerable to all the health concerns of their parents. And who have no family history of allergies or itchy skin problems. English Labradoodle Care Since English Labs have a reputation for being calmer than American Labs, lots of people are interested in English Labradoodles because they hope they will be easier pets. However, the differences between English and American Labradors are relative. All Labs still need lots of exercise and mental stimulation every day! And Poodles also need lots of engagement and opportunities to burn off physical energy. So an English Labradoodle will still require several hours of attention every day. All the better for impressing show judges! This can make them an appealing prospect for Labradoodle breeding. What could be cuter than an English teddy bear Labradoodle with a super snuggly coat? In which case they are likely to shed copiously. And they should be able to tell you exactly why they chose that particular Labrador, and what makes them so great. The most important thing should be finding puppies from health tested parents. Next, make sure each parent has a temperament you find attractive. Bear in mind that the differences between English and American Labs are generalisations. They have a lot in common too, and sometimes individuals go against type! American Labradors are also known as working or field Labradors. Their temperament is likely to be more active, and always on the go. They are even quicker to train, and learn complex commands more easily than English Labs. An American Labradoodle is likely to also be more energetic and harder to tire out than an English Labradoodle. American and English Labradors are physically slightly different too. American Labs tend to be slightly taller, and of more slender build. More closely matched to the Poodle in fact! So, the build of American Labradoodles is likely to vary less than that of English Labradoodles. Australian Labradoodle is the breed name chosen by Labradoodle breeders who wish to see the Labradoodle recognized as a new breed in its own right. The breeding programme to achieve this has been underway since the s. Most Australian Labradoodles are now bred from other Australian Labradoodles. The purpose of standardizing Australian Labradoodles is to create breeding lines which have reliably predictable looks and temperaments. Being first generation crosses, English Labradoodles are inevitably more variable in appearance and personality than Australian Labradoodles. Genetic analysis of Australian Poodles also suggests that breeders have selected strongly in favor of Poodle traits over Labrador traits. So an Australian Poodle is likely to be very Poodle-like in many ways. Whereas a litter of English Labradoodle puppies could have individuals that are very Labrador-like. We have two decades of experience in this area. Australian Labradoodle British or Early Generation Labradoodles British Labradoodles are two breed hybrids which are of low generation. Unfortunately, this means that there is low predictability in the puppies within the litter produced. On second or third generation, genetics becomes more complicated, not less since throw-backs start appearing. Especially true if breeders have been backcrossing to Labrador or Poodle. Commonly a second or third generation Labradoodle resembles a poorly bred Poodle or a Labrador, not a typical Labradoodle. Predictability becomes essential when considering an Australian Cobberdog or an Australian Labradoodle. With many generations of careful breeding, specific physical and temperament characteristics become consistent and predictable. Every puppy in an Australian Cobberdog litter should be recognised as such or at least to a layperson as an Australian Labradoodle, not a British Labradoodle. At the Australian Cobberdog stage, there should be less resemblance and throw-backs to the parent infusion breeds.

Royal George Goldendoodles is a very small home breeding operation that produces only a few puppies every year from their two breeding dogs. The puppies are F1BB medium Goldendoodles. That gives you the opportunity to meet the breeder in person, check out the conditions in which the breeding dogs and puppies are kept, and get an overall vibe for the setup. The kennels should be clean, bright, and airy with fresh water available to the occupants at all times. The dogs should have access to some outside space, and they should have comfortable beds and a few toys, too. If the breeder declines your request to visit them without a valid reason, for example, due to Covid restrictions, you should be suspicious and make further inquiries about the operation. Any breeder who suggests meeting at a service station or some other random place to pick up your puppy should be avoided. These are classic red flags for puppy mills. Of the four of them, this one little fella scampered over to me and immediately started chewing on my knuckles. That when I fell in love with him. There are subtle behavioural differences in the two genders which you can read in this blog post where I discuss the differences between male and female Frenchies. Make sure your breeder is knowledgeable: on breeding and cares for the puppies. I would always do online research into the breeder before I would even visit them. Be wary of what seems to be an abnormally low price: this can be a sign of an unhealthy puppy. Red eye can be a signal of a health problem. Ask the breeder how many litters the mother has had: a French Bulldog should only really have 1 litter a year , preferably only one every couple of years. Any more than that is a warning sign that she is being over-bred, and health issues could be present. Ask if the puppy has been checked by a vet: and has had the relevant vaccinations. If not, walk away as this should be handled by the breeder before the puppies go on sale. It can give you some insight into what type of dog your Frenchie puppy is going to grow into. If the breeder refuses to let you see the mother, then walk away as this is a huge warning sign. Ask if the parents have had health checks: as this can give you insight into any potential health problems further down the line. Conditions to look out for include hip problems, cataracts, cherry eye , deafness, and soft palate issues. Ask how old the parents are: if the mother is less than 3 years old, any genetic health conditions might not yet have manifested themselves. Ask how often the puppies have been handled: the more the young pups have been handled by humans frequently it will be far easier to get him used to all the excitement in store when you get him home. Ask to speak to a previous client: the best breeders will be more than happy to let you talk with people who have previously bought a Frenchie puppy from them. Ask for a hearing test: whilst this might not always be possible, it is a concern. White Frenchies in particular can develop hearing loss at birth due to a congenital issue. When buying your Frenchie, you need a caring breeder that gladly answers your questions and shows you the parents and tell you about their history and problems. If you are dealing with a breeder who is just looking to make a quick buck and not telling you what you should know then walk away. How to best buy a healthy French bulldog puppy There are several factors you should consider before buying a French Bulldog who is hopefully going to live a healthy life. Sadly Frenchies can have some severe health issues in their bloodlines which you should look out for when purchasing your puppy. Health issues can include:. What does "breeder" mean? Irresponsible breeders who breed for profit rather than quality will accept any buyer with a check or credit card. Ethical breeders screen new homes as a potential new owner, be prepared for lots of questions , serve as knowledgeable mentors after you take your puppy home, and will always be there for you, as long as you own the dog. Ethical breeders spend lots of time socializing, caring for, and observing their puppies and will be able to recommend the puppy most likely to fit best into your life. They will tell you what you need to buy before you bring your puppy home, have started his paper training, had his health checked, and begun to accustom him to having his nails cut, feet trimmed, and coat brushed. All of this gets your puppy off to the best possible start. Ask for referrals.Ask your veterinarian if they know of a reputable breeder in your area or ask close friends who own healthy purebred dogs. Take advantage of social media and join French Bulldog groups, ask questions. You can also contact local breed clubs or visit professional dog shows and strike up a conversation with participants or spectators to see if they know of a good breeder. Meet the breeder at their facility.Finding an ethical, reputable breeder is important to ensure the health of your new puppy. If you contact the breeder, but they are coy about letting you see where the puppies were born and the conditions they are currently living in, this is a possible sign they are running a dirty breeding business, are a puppy mill or a backyard breeder. Look at all the areas where the pups and their parents spend their time. The grounds should be well-maintained with clean, odorless kennels and exercise areas. Dogs should not be confined in cages for long periods. They should have individual runs if possible. The kennel should be heated and cooled. Fresh water supplies at all times. It is not uncommon for the male dog to be separated, but make sure you ask about him and see him. The breeder should be more than willing to let you meet the parents if at all possible. The parents will be the best way for you to see what the puppies will be like as adults. Look at the siblings if any remaining. Make sure ALL dogs have good coats, clear eyes and noses, and a healthy weight. Ensure it is not a puppy mill.Make sure the breeder isn't churning out high volumes of pups, but rather considers their breeding dogs to be family members and treats them with loving care. The breeder should encourage you to spend time with one or both parents on your visit. The parents should be friendly and socialize well with both people and other dogs. Their pups should have the same demeanor, be clean and energetic. Raising a litter of puppies takes an insane amount of work. Breeders who have more than one or two litter of puppies at once might not be giving the puppies the attention they need in this critically formative time. However, if breeders have multiple litters 3,4, or more at once, you may want to take pause. You can put your name on a waiting list. Since optimum mating times occur according to natural schedules, litters are usually born in the spring and fall. Do not expect to pay a few hundred dollars for your puppy — think in the thousands. Breeders should know the breed.Since most devoted breeders only deal with one type of dog, their knowledge of the breed should be extensive. Good relationship with veterinarian.All good breeders have a good working relationship with a respected veterinarian who examines each pup and provides immunizations and parasite control according to medical standards. The breeder should readily provide a complete medical record on each pup. You should be able to contact the veterinarian and speak freely about health records of puppies and parents. Ask for references.Breeders should provide several references from other families who have purchased pups and welcomes inquiries. Responsible mating is key.The breeder should take genetic predispositions into account to reduce potential inherited problems. Look up what health testing is recommended for your chosen breed — the AKC has great recommendations. Really good breeders will have a scan of these scores for each dog on their website, sometimes even complete with the x-rays. This testing is expensive, but good breeders will do it. Parents should be over 2 yrs old.If you want a happy, healthy adult dog, you need to be sure that her parents are happy and healthy adult dogs. That means waiting until the parents are 2 years old prior to having puppies. Puppies should be raised inside.Puppies raised inside are more likely to be exposed to kids, other animals, and normal home activities. Puppies should be unavailable until 12 weeks.Studies show that puppies removed from their parents and litter-mates too young are more likely to exhibit problem behaviors like fear or aggression toward other dogs. Be prepared for questions to you.A breeder may question you regarding your ability to care for the dog, how much time you have to spend with him and where he will fit into your family. Breeders pick the families. The breeder should take the time to get to know the family's needs and help the family pick a puppy. Introducing pup to new home.A knowledgeable breeder will be happy to sit down with you and discuss what you can expect in the breed, including any issues that might crop up later in life purebred dogs, even well bred ones, have be susceptible to certain diseases or health problems. They should also offer to be available to answer any questions you may have after you take the pup home. You should receive a written contract with a guarantee of health allowing time for a pre-purchase examination by a veterinarian of your choice. What Is A Miniature Boxer? A Mini Boxer is often achieved using specific breeding practices. Relatively new to the canine scene, the Miniature Boxer is making waves for his family friendly nature, adorable appearance and devoted temperament. And this brings us to the origin of the Miniature Boxer and what you should know about controversial breeding practices. Keep reading. On paper, the Miniature Boxer sounds like the perfect companion. This is especially true if you already have an affinity for Boxers and all their endearing qualities. The Boxer was inspired by ancient war dogs dating as far back as 2, BC. Traditionally, Boxers were bred to be versatile working dogs. They served as guard dogs, cattle dogs, war dogs, and even guide dogs and service dogs. And this brings us to the Miniature Boxer. Miniature Boxers are still relatively new, which is one of the reasons they have yet to be considered an official size variety of purebred Boxer. They are also somewhat controversial, as the practices for breeding Miniature Boxers come with some amount of risk. According to most experts, there are three methods a breeder could use tocome up with a Miniature Boxer. These methods include the following: Breeding Dwarfism: Breeding dwarfism is a very controversial method some breeders use when attempting to create Miniature Boxer dogs. While this method does keep a Miniature Boxer litter purebred, it also puts the puppies at a much higher risk of serious health issues like spinal problems, breathing difficulties and muscle development. Purposefully breeding dwarfism into dogs like Boxers can cause other issues as well down the road, which may lead to devastating and costly problems for owners. For this reason, most reputable breeders will refrain from purposefully breeding dwarfism into their dogs. Breeding Runts: The other common way some might go about breeding smaller than average Boxer dogs is to breed runts. When puppies are born runts, they are also usually born with other underlying health issues. Breeding runts to create a Miniature Boxer means that these dogs have a much higher risk of being born unhealthy and going on to live unhealthy lives. Again, because of the health risks and moral implications of breeding runts, most reputable breeders will stay away from this method for how to create a Mini Boxer dog. Crossbreeding: The last way, and perhaps safest way, of creating a Miniature Boxer dog would be through crossbreeding. If combined correctly, the resulting puppies would be smaller than the traditional Boxer while still maintaining that unique Boxer-like appearance and temperament. While crossbreeding is the safest and healthiest way to go about breeding smaller Boxer dogs, there are still some cons to this method. For example, many traits of early generation crossbreed dogs will be unpredictable, including traits like health, appearance and temperament. And while crossbreed dogs may be viewed as healthier than purebred dogs thanks to what is known as hybrid vigor the idea that they have a wider genepool than their purebred counterparts and are thus less susceptible to genetic disease , they also have a longer list of health issues to contend with. That said, if you are keen on getting a Miniature Boxer to call your own, we would recommend looking for a crossbreed Mini Boxer as opposed to one of the other types listed above. The Miniature Boxer — Temperament and Personality Traits For the most part, Miniature Boxers have many of the same characteristics as their average sized Boxer counterparts. Regardless of how your Miniature Boxer was created, the truth is that the majority of his temperamental traits should be the same as his standard Boxer counterpart. As a breed in general, Boxers are known to be intelligent, affectionate, playful and family oriented. They can be high energy dogs and do well in active families and in homes with large, securely fenced yards where they can run and play freely. When properly socialized, the Miniature Boxer can get along well with other dogs and children. In fact, the Miniature Boxer may be a better option for those with younger children, as full sized Boxers can be a bit overwhelming for small kids. Still, Miniature Boxers are not pocket pups. They are considered medium sized dogs, which means they may not be the best suited for apartment living, especially if all of their exercise and mental stimulation needs are not met. That aside, when in the hands of the right owner and when trained, socialized, and exercised properly, the Miniature Boxer can do well with active families, novice dog owners, singles, couples, and active retirees. How To Train and Socialize a Miniature Boxer Training should be done utilizing positive reinforcement techniques and consistency. For the most part, Miniature Boxers are sweet and affectionate dogs, but without proper training and socialization they can develop serious behavioral issues down the road. How To Socialize A Miniature Boxer Socialization should begin as early as you get your Mini Boxer and will continue on with your dog throughout his lifetime. Making sure you properly socialize a dog means that you should try and introduce that dog to as many new people, places, sights, sounds and experiences as possible as young as possible. Ensuring these first impressions are positive for your Miniature Boxer are also important, so refrain from forcing your Boxer into a situation that he is clearly frightened of or this could lead to fear-based behavioral issues down the road. They are eager to please and quick to learn, especially when training is kept light, fun and game-like. Just as with socialization, you can begin training your Miniature Boxer as soon as you bring him home. Use treats and praise as opposed to punishments and scolding , as positive reinforcement training techniques have been shown consistently to work better than aversive training methods. Just like their larger counterparts, Miniature Boxers are energetic dogs who require routine exercise each and every day. The best exercise for a Miniature Boxer will be a routine walk for 40 minutes to an hour each day. Mini Boxers might also enjoy light hikes or trips to the dog park. However, they do need a bit of exercise, so you will need to meet their exercise needs. Dwarf Boxer vs. While this gene is very rare in Boxers, it is possible. Usually, these Boxers have shorter legs than their larger family members. However, dwarfism can cause all sorts of health problems. It can cause bone deformities. On the other hand, miniature Boxers are bred by mixing a Boxer with a smaller dog. This results in a somewhat smaller dog that may or may not look like a Boxer. Their coat can vary somewhat depending on what traits they inherit. They will have short coats that will likely be very fine. Their fur will always be straight and smooth, as both of their parents have this coat type. They are typically black, fawn, or white. White is a bit less common than the other coat color options. Many of them have brindle coat markings. However, some of them are solidly colored. Temperament: Are Miniature Boxers good family dogs? They like family and people. Because of this, they are extremely good companion dogs. They are mostly purchased as companion dogs for this reason. They are also very gentle.
