You other fluffers can't deny, When a dude walks in with a pretty smile on his face And no baggage on his plate- you get sprung! Who's looking for an emotionally available, monogamous man who is on the hunt for his one and only? He's the epitome of a tall, strong protector AND he has a sense of humor and soft side! He'll keep you laughing when your day was poopy by contorting himself into the most uncomfortable-looking sleep positions even AFTER you specially order him a giant, size-appropriate raised bed so that he DOESN'T have to lay on the concrete. He loves people and is tall enough to put his paws on your shoulder and lick your eyeball without stretching, so, you know- at least you'll never have to worry about your eyeliner running! Full disclosure- he really IS ginormous and looks like a cross between a fuzzy bear and a baby giraffe. He will need someone who is experienced with giant breed dogs and is willing to put him in his place when he needs it. He's housebroken and is good with humans of all sizes as long as they don't mind a gentle trampling on occasion. He sheds a generous amount on a daily basis, and you could probably knit sweaters for an entire Icelandic village with what he loses in a week, so his adopter will need to be willing to buy stock in ShopVac and lint rollers. He makes up for his "pet glitter" in blood pressure reduction by allowing you to give him all the belly rubs that your carpal tunnel allows. He's fully vetted and ready to blow the doors off this place on his way to his happy ever after! Considering Rubble for adoption? Where does the Golden Retriever Chow Mix come from? As with any other designer dog, the origin of the Golden Retriever Chow mix is unknown. At some point in the past 20 years, people decided to mix the Golden Retriever and Chow Chow, which resulted in the Golden Chowtriever — a fierce but loving crossbreed. To fully understand this crossbreed, we can learn more about the traits it can inherit from its parents. They were exceptionally good at retrieving waterfowl without damaging the game, thanks to their soft mouths, which made them the top choice for many hunters. Fast forward to today, Goldens have taken the world by storm. Their outgoing, playful nature, helped make them the third most popular breed in the US, and the rest of the world. Yet, this dog offers brains as well as brawns. They even rank as the fourth most intelligent dog breed in the world — right behind the Border Collie, Poodle, and German Shepherd. This purebred can be found in three different types: American , Canadian , and English Golden Retrievers. Meet the Chow Chow The Chow Chow originates from northern China and is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world, dating back to years ago. This fluffy breed was produced as companions for Chinese nobles, and some dynasties had over Chow Chows at any given time. When it comes to its physical appearance, everything you need to know is in its name. The average height of an adult specimen is 17 to 20 inches 43 to 51 cm and weighs 40 to 90 pounds kg. Chows have a very dense double coat with a thick mane around the neck area. Its silky smooth fur comes in a variety of shades — from red to black — but multiple colors are considered outside the breed standard. They have a somewhat longer lifespan — 11 to 13 years. But there are organizations for designer dogs that recognize this hybrid, like the Dog Registry of America, Inc. What does a Golden Chowtriever look like? There is no standardized appearance for any mixed breed, but generally, the Golden Retriever Chow mix will charm you with its dark eyes and dropped ears. Then at the end of their body is a slightly curved yet puffy tail. Since crossbreeds are full of surprises, this fido can have the unique tongue color of the Chow. It can be the same black and blue pattern, or it can still be pink with dark spots. Watch this video of a Golden Retriever Chow mix named Bizkit enjoying beach day! If you look closely, you can even see some dark spots on its tongue: How big does a Golden Retriever Chow mix get? They can reach up to 25 inches .These canines are more suitable for a home that can offer ample space, both indoors and outdoors. Golden Retriever Chow mixes are considered heavy shedders throughout the year. One standardized thing is the color of its coat. The Golden Chow mix can be found in solid colors such as golden, black, brown, red, and blue. Are Golden Retriever Chow mix dogs aggressive? Neither parents are known to be aggressive, but there is quite a significant disparity between their two temperaments. Golden Retrievers are lovable goofballs who live to please their masters, while Chows are more independent and can be stubborn. A typical Chowtriever is loving, playful, and friendly. They love being around their family, but can be suspicious of strangers. With proper socialization, it will show its good side. We can expect them to be overprotective because of their history being bred as guard dogs. This hybrid may be good with kids but always supervise playtime. If they feel threatened or mishandled, the Chow Golden mix can nip in retaliation. If you have a family with little ones, think twice before bringing in this hybrid. They may be more suitable for families with older children. Avoid this by making sure your pet gets proper obedience training, and then slowly introduce and socialize your Golden Retriever Chow mix in a controlled environment. Taking care of a Golden Retriever Chow mix This designer dog requires at least 60 minutes of exercise daily. Give your Golden Chowtriever 3 cups of dog food divided into three meals throughout the day. Dry kibbles are not only a convenient option, but it also has more nutritional balance. You can also feed your furbaby some vegetables and fruits. How to groom a Golden Retriever Chow mix? As we mentioned earlier, this crossbreed is a notorious shedder and will require daily brushing. Other than that, grooming sessions can be done every month or two. Expect more hair and be prepared with a bristle brush, greyhound comb, and a rake for shedding season, though. Tartar accumulation with this pooch can lead to gum inflammation and infection. Health: How long does a Golden Retriever Chow mix live? One of the common reasons behind crossbreeding is to create a healthier dog than its purebred parents, also known as hybrid vigor. And though the Chow Chow Golden Retriever mix is considered a hardy breed with a lifespan of 10 to 14 years, it can still suffer from genetic illnesses, like hip dysplasia. Most vets recommend glucosamine supplements for dogs who are susceptible to having joint problems to reduce stiffness and swelling on their joints. And because of its thick coat, this doggo may have allergies caused by fleas. The golden rule no pun intended when getting a dog is to ask to see the parents and their medical documents. Of course, the price may vary depending on the availability of the puppies, parent quality, breeder location, etc. Goldies can have 4 to 12 puppies, and Chows can have 4 to 6 pups. So, we can safely say that this crossbreed will likely have a litter size within that range. Another option is adoption. Here are Chow Chow mixes and Golden Retriever hybrids that you might like. The Chusky comes from a line of very active, working parent breeds. They need to be walked at least three times a day, in addition to their playtime with other dogs. Due to their activity requirements, this breed is not suited to live in an apartment. In those cases, the only way to keep it tangle-free is by brushing its hair three times a week. Unlike the Goldie, this hybrid makes for a good guard dog. If a stranger is approaching, it will be sure to notify you either by barking or howling. With very active parents, this canine will need lots of exercise — around an hour, topped off by 2 to 3 hour-long walks. The verdict: Should you get a Golden Retriever Chow mix? Golden Retriever Chow mixes can be excellent dogs, but they need experienced dog owners who can deal with their stubbornness and wary nature. If you can provide the kind of home and time that this fido requires, this might be the dog for you. Do you think you have what it takes to take care of a Golden Retriever Chow Mix? Others love to be around people, like Goldens. They love to run and play, and many love the water. Not only do you have to train them consistently, but you also have to keep up with their significant exercise demands. Chows and Goldens are both smart dogs, but that intelligence manifests itself in different ways. A Golden Retriever will use its considerable brainpower to try to find ways to make you happy. Chows love their owners too, but their brains are often used to scan for threats and offer protection. Golden Chows can closely resemble either parent breed in this regard, but they often fall somewhere in the middle. They love to spend their time playing and goofing off with their families, but they become all business as soon as a threat appears. Are These Dogs Good for Families? A Golden Chow tends to bond tightly to their family, so the dog would likely give their life to protect your children. If you decide to bring a Golden Chow into your family, then training is in order—for both the kids and the dog. The dog needs to learn how to tolerate unpredictable little people, and the children need to be taught how to behave around animals. Some love other animals and can make fast friends at the dog park, but they tend to be the exception rather than the rule. If you want to increase the likelihood that your dog will tolerate other pets, then socialize them early and often. These are complex animals, and to raise one properly, you have to do your homework. Excess weight is a problem for this breed, especially since many of them can suffer from hip dysplasia and other joint issues later in life. Find a suitable diet we recommend one high in fat and protein , and feed your dog a set amount every day. We also think you should give your pooch a regular glucosamine supplement to help with those achy joints. Image Credit: William Wise, Dreamstime. About 60 to 90 minutes of vigorous exercise usually does the trick. These dogs are smart, so mental stimulation is equally important. They tend to do better interacting with people than trying to figure out puzzles, so make sure any mental challenges involve both of you. We like agility training for this purpose, as it taxes the body and mind equally. Golden Chows are playful with family members, so you may even be able to just run around in the backyard with them for exercise. This means that small children can often get bowled over by overly enthusiastic dogs, so try to keep their energy levels in check. It needs to be done regularly—every day, if possible—and it needs to be done thoroughly. Along with training, socialization needs to happen from day one. Make sure your dog is confident and comfortable in a variety of situations, including around other people and pets. Socializing them properly will go a long way toward nipping future problematic behaviors in the bud. As for training styles, positive reinforcement is always best. We reviewed the best clickers for training your dog — check out our favorites here! Many Golden Chows suffer from dental issues , so brushing their teeth regularly is essential. You also need to keep their ears clean and their nails trimmed. Still, you should monitor your dog regularly to rule out the following conditions. Minor Conditions. However, have you ever considered a Golden Chow? This might just be one of the best choices from all the puppies and dogs available for you. These protective but gentle dogs are fantastic companions, but they are not the dog for everyone. In this article, we will take a look at this remarkable mixed-breed dog. What Is a Golden Chow? It is an attempt to take the best of two wonderful dogs. The history of the Chow Chow Golden Retriever mix is not well known. They have only emerged in the last 20 years as part of a growing trend to cross breed different purebred dogs. Some of these cross-breeds have been successful. The Labradoodle is a classic example. The hybrid is now standardized, meaning that owners know what they are getting when they buy one. The Golden Chow has not got that far. The appearance and temperament of the dog can vary depending on the parents. The first parent breed of this mix is the Chow Chow. The Chinese developed this dog more than 2, years ago as an all-around working animal. They served as farm animals, temple guards, and even army dogs! Many people are wary of the Chow Chow. It is known for being aggressive and standoffish. Some insurance companies will even increase your rates if they know that you have one of these as a pet. Without proper socializing, this dog can be mean and scary. Martha Stewart is also a fan and owns three. The other half of the equation is a lovable Golden Retriever. This breed is young compared to the Chow Chow. These dogs were developed in Scotland as hunting companions. Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular family dogs out there. This is because they are obedient, affectionate, and easy to train. They are known for being fluffy, aloof, and devoted pets. Golden Chows can be very similar to Golden Retrievers—or they could be very different. The answer depends largely on your individual dog and its genetics. As a hybrid, this dog tends to lean one way or the other. This is true for both appearance and temperament. Chow Chows usually weigh in at about 50 to 75 pounds and will stand 20 to 25 inches tall. They are considered medium-sized dogs, but they are at the larger end of the scale. Both the Golden and the Chow Chow are somewhat big dogs, so this cross is no small pup. Chow Chows can have a variety of appearances. Some will look like fluffier Golden Retrievers. Others might look like thinner Chow Chows. No matter what, you can expect a thick double coat that will need daily brushing. It will generally be more of a red or gold color, but this is not always the case. An interesting characteristic that you might find in your dog is its tongue. Chow Chows are known for their blue-black tongues, and it looks like this is a dominant trait. Your dog might have a splotchy multi-colored tongue. The mouth will also probably be darker as well. But lest that discourage you, check out this video of super adorable Golden Chow puppies. Temperament is where these dogs differ most from a Golden Retriever. This is because the two parent breeds are very different. Goldens love affection of all kinds, including from strangers. Chows are wary of people in general and are protective of their homes. If your dog leans more towards a Golden, it will be an attention-seeker. It will also be friendlier towards strangers. It will have many of the lovable traits that you look for in a Golden but might be more reserved and relaxed. A Golden Chow that leans more toward Chow traits, however, will not be as friendly. These dogs will be more protective of their homes and are suspicious of anyone who enters. If you are considering a Golden Chow, you should be prepared to change your lifestyle. These dogs will take up a lot of your time and energy when it comes to training and exercise. If they are more of a Golden Retriever, they will be easy to train. Goldens live to please people, and they are naturally obedient. They are focused to the point of obsession and will work hard to achieve any task that you give them. Goldens are also extremely active dogs. As hunting companions, they were bred to be outside and running around for long periods of time. Their favorite game in the world is fetch, especially if you throw a stick or ball into a lake or ocean. If your dog is more of a Chow Chow, training will be more difficult. You will need to establish yourself as the alpha dog right away. Chow Chows typically require more discipline than other dogs. This should never be physical though. You will likely find a unique training program that works for your dog. It is important to socialize Chow Chows and Golden Chows from an early age. The Chow side needs to learn that other animals and people do not pose a threat. The Golden Chow is only recommended to experienced dog owners. It also is not a dog for families with young children. Conclusion The Golden Chow is a difficult dog to raise. However, the reward is a sweet, loyal, and protective dog that will keep your family safe. Already Have a Golden Chow? During World War I, they were the obvious choice for a war sentry. The Wolfdog was later dropped as it caused many people to fear the dogs. How big do German Shepherd Dogs get? Related Content. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. This is often the most nerve-wracking part of our application approval process -- but it needn't be. The home visit is designed to accomplish three main goals: 1. To verify that the information provided on the application is true and accurate; 2. To determine whether the home has the ability to provide a safe, loving environment for a dog through Echo Dogs; and 3. To help determine the personality of the dog that would best suit the home and family. However, not every dog is appropriate for every home. We will work with you to find the dog that is best suited for your home, family and lifestyle. We want you to get a dog that will enrich your life and delight you and we want each one of our dogs to have a home and family that thinks he or she is the absolute best dog on the planet. Our Adoption Coordinator takes over at this point in the process. She will look at your application and home visit report and will send your application to the foster home that has a dog she thinks you might be interested in. The foster home will either call or e-mail you with some information about the dog. You should ask as many questions as you feel necessary to understand whether this dog is the "one" for you. If you don't think one sounds just right, just let the foster home or the Adoption Coordinator know and we will look for a different dog. If you can tell us why a particular dog didn't appeal to you, it will help us look at other dogs in our program that might be more suitable. Please do not feel pressured to adopt any dog that you aren't absolutely comfortable about adopting! Each of us loves our foster dogs, but we realize that he or she might not be the right dog for every family or home. We do not feel offended or hurt if you decide you would rather adopt a dog other than our personal foster dog. After all, our goal is to get our foster dog into a home where she or he will be truly treasured. Depending on the distances involved, we have various options available, which we can discuss prior to finalize the adoption. Bear in mind, that the transportation, depending on the distances involved, the speed with which you want to receive the dog and sometimes just plain luck, may involve some additional expense and almost always require you to drive some distance to pick up the dog. We keep each of our dogs on Heartgard or Interceptor and Frontline Plus while in foster care. Many of our dogs have received considerably more medical treatment than the above, depending on what they need when they arrive into foster care. If a dog has a chronic condition that is diagnosed while in our care, we will inform you of the diagnosis and the course of treatment that the dog has been receiving while in our care. Just ask!

An Apricot Mini Labradoodle my puppy Max! Fried chicken is a hue of brown, so the dogs on our list have that coat color. Usually, those are your reddish brown dogs, which one might also refer to as apricot. Light brown and curly Goldendoodle puppy sitting in a basket. Tight curls work best because they look like ridges from afar. Fried Chicken or Puppy? Without further ado, here are our top five dog breeds that look like fried chicken: 1. Poodle It only makes sense to start with the breed that makes it possible—the Poodle. These dogs have curly coats that often look fluffy, and they come in various sizes as well. Labradoodle Starting with the breed that makes it possible, we now arrive at the dog that looks most like fried chicken—the Labradoodle. It is a mix of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. Their curls are so defined that it looks just like you took them from a bucket of extra crispy chicken from your favorite restaurant. Irish Doodle The Irish Doodle is another breed that looks like a piece of fried chicken. Irish Setter and Poodle are the parent dog breeds of an Irish Doodle. Irish Setters are breeds endowed with red coats, a perfect color for fried chicken. Consequently, you end up with a pup with a thick coat of curly ringlets that can be cream, red, brown, or apricot. Remember that their coats can be curly or wavy, but the tighter the curls, the better. Interestingly, the Poochon inherits the curly hair trait from both parent dogs. Consequently, Poochons have a great chance of looking like fried chicken. Poochon stands on the grass at the park. This Poodle mix typically makes puppies cream, tan, and apricot in color. However, since the fur color of a Bichon Frise is white, your Poochon depends on the Poodle parent tremendously for their color. To maximize your chances of your pup looking like fried chicken, search for a puppy whose parent Poodle is a darker color. Cockapoo Another dog that looks like a crispy piece of fried chicken is the Cockapoo —a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix. Two happy Cockapoos running! The Cockapoo has an assortment of colors , including black, chocolate, apricot, red, white, and golden. Additionally, there are other patterns such as phantom, parti, tricolor, and merle. For example, your Labradoodle simply lying or sitting on the couch or floor may not take the shape of fried chicken, so you may have to improvise. It may give people the impression of fried chicken cooking on a grill at first glance. Or, you might try purchasing a round white blanket and placing all your newborn pups strategically. The common traits among these breeds are their curly and reddish-brown fur. Lastly, the Poodle lineage is the final component that these breeds have in common. Because Poodles pass that curly hair trait, they make up the bulk of fried chicken dog breeds. When you combine this curly trait with the distinct coloring of the other dog breeds , you create a litter of puppies that look just like fried chicken. My wife and I love playing with our active miniature Labradoodle Max. We want all Oodle puppies to be healthy and happy, have lots of fun and be part of the family. Load More. Posted across Twitter and Reddit multiple times in recent days, the picture is believed to have originated from the Facebook page of a pet store in Pingtung, Taiwan. In the picture, four adorable puppies are seen inside a cage. With one fluffy white dog and three orange fluffy puppies that viewers have likened to fried chicken. Referencing all four puppies in the picture, one Twitter user said: "I will take the 3 'lil chickens and the fluffy mashed potatoes, to go, please. A resurfaced viral picture of puppies that look amazingly like fried nuggets has delighted the internet. One user wrote: "When I saw the picture, I honestly thought the title was gonna say: this fried chicken looks like puppies. I thought this was fried chicken pic. The Doodle was created by an Australian veterinarian who wanted to create a dog that could assist humans with allergies. Particularly popular for this reason, their curly coats make them more allergen-friendly thanks to minimal shedding. Whether Labradoodle —Poodle and Labrador or Goldendoodle—Poodle and Golden Retriever, the dogs have soared in popularity in recent years. But it is important to remember that no dogs can be truly hypoallergenic. This is because allergens are carried in dander, saliva, and urine and so are impossible to escape. It is always advised to spend time around the breed before deciding to bring one into your home. Another commenter on the viral puppy picture said: "Forbidden chicken," while another wrote: "I actually thought these were stuffies made to look like chicken. Now I'm hungry. By Beth Satterfield Dogs are like garbage disposals because and Goldendoodles are not always an exception they will eat just about anything you give them! However, you should not feed them several foods. The question we must ask now is can a Goldendoodle eat chicken, or is that a bad idea? Chicken is not bad for Goldendoodles. Goldendoodles can sometimes have sensitive stomachs, which means they need a well-balanced diet of good fats and proteins. If a dog is sensitive to chicken, cut it from its diet. Naturally, if you are a good dog owner you want to do whatever is the very best for your Goldendoodle which includes feeding it the best food that is available. But the question is, what food is the best for your Goldendoodle? Below you will find some info on what kind of food is good for Goldendoodles and hopefully will help you to determine what kind of food you should be feeding your canine friend. What Can My Goldendoodle Eat? Because they are such high-energy dogs, they are extremely active and therefore will burn a lot more fat. Since this is the case, they can afford to have a much larger fat quantity in their diet since they burn it off so quickly. Vets and other dog experts would recommend that you feed your dog a commercial dog food diet. A lot of people opt to make their own dog food to make it healthier for their pets, but because commercial dog foods are expertly prepared, they are most likely to have the correct balance of nutrients that a Goldendoodle needs every day. Chicken is a great source of both fat and protein. It is very lean meat that will give your dog a good boost every day. However, you cannot allow your doodle to eat chicken bones because they are small and thin enough that they become a major choking hazard. You should do your best to purchase dog food that is rich in vitamins and nutrients and low in GMOs and sugars. Good dog food is often somewhat expensive, but you might find that the cost is worth it. Aside from feeding your dog a good brand of dog food, there are a couple of snack options you could probably afford to give them for a healthy supplemental boost in their day. You should probably avoid processed human foods and large amounts of human foods altogether, but there are a few you may want to give a try. Feeding dogs vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and sweet potatoes can give them a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals. You can also feed them healthy proteins such as salmon, eggs, peanut butter, and pork. All of these things are fine for dogs to consume and can even give them a boost in their health. Grains are a must as well! Popcorn has a few vitamins but not as much nutrition. Unfortunately, there are a few foods out there that dogs ought to avoid at all costs. As most dog owners know, any kind of sugar should generally be avoided for dogs. Chocolate is probably one of the worst kinds that you can feed to dogs. Even, and especially, unsweetened, chocolate can cause problems as severe as swelling and internal bleeding. This is usually only the case when dogs ingest dark and unsweetened chocolate. When your Goldendoodle ingests sweetened milk chocolate, it will likely exhibit symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. You will have to be careful with feeding your Goldendoodle certain types of fruit as well. Grapes and raisins, for example, are filled with things that can be toxic to dogs in general and should thus be avoided. Apples, too, contain certain toxins that had best be avoided by canines. This includes the pits, stems, and seeds of said fruits as well. While some vegetables like carrots and broccoli are safe for dogs to ingest, there are others like avocados, onions, and garlic that should never be fed to dogs. Each of these things contains toxins. Onions and garlic are potent enough that dogs will stay away from them, but avocados will have to be more religiously avoided. Goldendoodles cannot be allowed to consume alcohol, tea, or coffee in any amount. Any of these things will make your dog extremely sick. Tea and coffee contain large amounts of caffeine which dogs are unable to metabolize properly. With the social distancing in place if you plan to do this having the product shipped is ideal currently. But once things get back to normal we recommend looking at bulk purchasing and checking with local butchers, etc for scraps, etc to save money if you plan to do this long term. Whether your dog has medical problems or not, you need to always tell your veterinarian that your dog eats a homemade food. There really aren't enough lovely things I can say about these amazing dogs. The perfect family companion for young and old and everyone in between. They are loving and funny, loyal and energetic. Most people are aware of the origins of Labradoodles, they were created with a purpose, and that purpose was to develop a breed that had the service dog capabilities of the Labrador combined with the hypoallergenic qualities of the Poodle. And so the Labradoodle was born. They are continuing to prove themselves as amazing assistance, therapy and service dogs but have also become a beloved companion animal for many different types of owners. Growing up on a dairy farm I have always had a passion for animals big and small. Now as an adult with a family I love to share that passion with my two boys and husband. Alpen Ridge has always been based on a guardian program where the breeding dogs live with families not in kennels or overcrowded situations. This allows them to be the companions they were bred to be and have their life long families. My focus is quality puppies that are reared in a home environment. You become part of the Alpen Ridge Family, not just a customer. Here are some helpful tips to understand what a breeder means when they are using these phrases. The original multi-gen Australian Labradoodle, which is the original Labradoodle, has a foundation stock including 6 different parent breeds. This was a breed that was developed with goals in mind for a low shedding service dog, not a designer dog. The multi-gen Labradoodle has only poodle and lab in its heritage. It does not include the other parent breeds that were originally used by the creators of the breed. These dogs tend to shed their coat since they are more closely related to the Labrador and often have a wire hair or feathered look to them. F2 would be two F1 bred together and there can be quite a variation in coats. These dogs have not had the multiple generations of Labradoodle mated with another Labradoodle nor the addition of Australian Labradoodle foundation stock or multiple parent breeds. They are often developed to bring new bloodlines into the breed and bred into the mulit-gen lines. Like both their parents, these dogs are smart, friendly and fairly active. Can we meet in person? Have they been socialised? They are highly intelligent, super friendly and easy to train. We have a perfect litter of 5 Labradoodle pups. When to stop soaking dry food for puppies? It is recommended that puppy food is soaked from the age of weeks up to 12 weeks. However there is no set rule for this, some puppies or even older dogs will always prefer to eat dry food when soaked and it is providing your puppy or dog with more water intake, so certainly nothing wrong with that! Be sure to use warm or hot water to moisten the dry food, the idea is to make it softer for developing teeth! But always allow time to cool before providing the food to your puppy. How to soak dry food for puppies? As puppies from the age of weeks will be transitioning to soaked dry puppy foods, they are still very tiny at this point so make sure the food is accessible, without them having to climb over high rimmed bowls. Many puppy owners use a flat surface or plate to place the dry food on, pour warm water over it and soak for minutes. Give it a quick mix, check the temperature is okay then place on the floor for the puppy to access. How long should puppy food be soaked? It usually takes minutes to soak puppy food enough for it to loosen and soften. This makes it easier for young puppies to chew as they are only just developing their teeth. Make sure if you have used hot water that it is cool enough to give to your puppy — this might take longer than minutes. How much food should I give my puppy? Introduce Laughing Dog puppy complete food at around 6 weeks of age and continue feeding until your puppy reaches adult age. At this stage, a change to Laughing Dog adult complete is recommended. It is advisable to soak dry food for puppies under 12 weeks of age. When introducing Laughing Dog, do so gradually over a period of 7 days, increasing the proportion of food each day. How often should I be feeding my puppy? It is recommended to feed your puppy four meals a day up until the age of 4 months weeks , and then reduce their feed to three meals a day until they are 6 months old. They can then move to two meals a day, and stay on this routine for the rest of their life. What should I be feeding my puppy? If you are a breeder, however, it is important to know the stages a puppy goes through in those very early weeks, to ensure they get the right nutrients from the off. What to feed a puppy aged weeks From the age of weeks the weaning process starts, at this point small introductions to puppy food is welcome, however, it should be noted that at this stage puppies have only just started teething and it can take them up to the age of 6 weeks to have developed their teeth. Therefore, we would always recommend soaking dry food for puppies in warm or hot water from the age of 3 to 4 weeks to help them eat it easier. What to feed a puppy aged 6 weeks From the age of 6 weeks your puppy should be able to eat solid foods, many owners still choose to soak their food at this time and puppies who have just developed their teeth will welcome the softness! What to feed a puppy aged weeks As a new puppy owner, collecting your newbie at around weeks of age, your fur-baby should be well customed to eating a certain type of puppy food from the breeder. It is always recommended to initially keep them on this same type of food when you first get them home and gradually wean them onto your own choice. Bryant Dr. Nelva Bryant, DVM, is a highly accomplished veterinarian with three decades of professional experience in animal welfare, public health, and zoonotic diseases. She has worked with airlines and the Centers for Disease Control to improve pet travel through veterinary oversight. Most owners know that puppies need food specifically made to promote growth and development. However, many owners struggle to determine when the time is right to switch to adult dog food. This is because there is no rule that applies to all dogs. Different dogs grow at different rates. You and your vet can estimate the best time to make the change to your puppy's diet. Feeding Puppy Food Puppies need more calories than adult dogs to support their growth, development, and high energy levels. Young puppies need about twice the number of calories as adult dogs of the same size. As your puppy approaches adulthood, his growth begins to slow and his caloric needs decrease. If you continue to feed puppy food once your dog stops growing, it will result in weight gain. Excess weight can quickly turn into obesity , which can lead to a host of health problems. When to Switch to Adult Food In general, dogs are considered puppies until about one year of age. However, different breeds age at different rates. For example, many large and giant breed dogs are considered puppies until two or more years of age and will therefore need to remain on puppy food beyond age one. Conversely, some small dog breeds reach adult size before the age of one. Your veterinarian is the best source of information when it comes to your dog's diet, so ask for advice before making the switch to adult food. When deciding on the right time to feed adult dog food, the goal is to switch to adult food around the time the puppy stops growing but before he starts gaining excess weight. Keep track of your puppy's weight and height and look for the numbers to increase at a slower rate. Most dogs will begin to reach a plateau around one year of age, but you might notice the growth slow down as early as eight or nine months of age. Assessing Your Dog's Weight Be aware that weight gain does not necessarily indicate growth. If your dog is gaining weight but not getting taller or more muscular, he may be getting overweight. You can address your dog's body condition at home in a few steps: Run your hands along your dog's ribcage. You should be able to feel the ribs covered by a thin layer of fat. If you cannot easily feel the ribs, your dog may be overweight. Look at your dog from the side. You should be able to see the upward tuck of the belly. An overweight dog will have very little or no tuck. View your dog from above. There should be some narrowing at the waist just past the ribcage. A straight or bulging line from the ribcage to the hips indicates an overweight dog. Very prominent ribs and a very small waist may mean your dog is underweight. Visit your vet for an exam to be sure. If your dog is less than a year old and seems to be gaining weight, you may need to simply reduce the portion size or frequency of meals before you switch to adult food. Vets recommend feeding young puppies three times per day. However, most puppies can go down to meals a day when they are approaching adulthood. How to Make the Diet Change Any diet change should be done gradually to avoid gastrointestinal upset. This process can take a week or two depending on how you do it. It may take some time and research to choose the right food for your now-adult dog. You may wish to stick with the same brand of food but switch to an adult formula. Of course, your vet can help you find an appropriate diet. Once you have chosen the adult dog food, determine the portion size of adult food you will eventually need to feed based on your dog's current weight. Then, add a small percentage of adult food to the puppy food, increasing it a little at each meal. For simplicity, you may want to work out a schedule so you are not trying to remember how much of each to feed. Slow the transition if your dog experiences diarrhea or vomiting. If GI upset continues, you may need to choose a different adult diet and re-start the transition. Contact your vet if your dog has vomiting or diarrhea for more than a day. Watch your dog's weight over the coming months to make sure you don't need to adjust portion times. Also, be sure to keep up with annual or biannual veterinary wellness check-ups as recommended by your vet. They need that regularity as they are growing and burning a lot of calories. You know how energetic they are! How much you feed them at each mealtime will typically be half a cup of their dry puppy food. Across the day, that will equate 1. However, their weight and health will then determine how much you feed them as they get older. Calories matter, but are hard to count As French bulldogs get older, you should try to feed them according to their weight. For every pound, they should be fed between 25 and 30 calories. However, for the rest of this French bulldog puppy feeding guide, I am just going to talk in cups. Puppy weight How can weigh your puppy at the vets or, and this is can be a more interesting and fun way if your puppy already knows how to sit, have them sit on a scale at home. It will not be as accurate as a scale at the vet, but it could be a cheap and fun experience for you and your pet. Because of this, your puppy may be a little stubborn about eating dry and wet food if they were only just recently weaned. Here is where the math gets a little more detailed, but not too complicated. When they are between 8 to 12 weeks old, the puppy should be fed about 1. This food should be high in calories since they need extra nutrients that they are no longer getting from their mother. This kind of follows the main rule when it comes to spreading out the meals to 3 times a day. But for younger pups, many owners will split the 1. Because feeding them 0. Once they are between 6 and 9 months old, they should be used to their eating routine. That is when the main rule is applied because by then, the pup will be maturing into its adult size and should weigh between 20 and 25 pounds. What about older dogs? Also, if you are wondering how much they should be fed once they start hitting their senior years, they should be fed a little less as long only if they are not as active. Make sure you still stretch out the meals to 3 to 4 times like when they were puppies because it is not uncommon for their stomachs to weaken with old age. Overweight or underweight? French bulldog puppies usually weight between 8. Once they reach 6 to 9 months, they are just at or are closer to reaching their adult weight, .If the puppy is underweight, then add very small increments to each meal every day until they are no longer underweight. It is important to not add too much food because of the possibility of them getting a twisted stomach. If the puppy is overweight, you can either slightly reduce the size of their meal until they lose weight, or you can give them more exercise. Many people prefer the later since it helps the pup to get stronger and adds more bonding time. The same methods apply to grown French bulldogs as well. Handy Hint: Read this guide which explains how to check if you have a fat French Bulldog who needs to lose weight, with tips on how to get the pounds down. If the dog does not appear to be gaining weight when they are underweight or vice versa if they are overweight, you might want to take them to the vet since it could be a sign that something is affecting their health. Health conditions Since not every animal is the same, ask your vet the next time your pup has a check-up what a French bulldog of their size and age should weigh. Health factors like diabetes yes, dogs can have diabetes , can make your pup need a more strict diet or feeding routine. Here are some different diets and feeding routines. Raw food vs. Many dog lovers say that there are too many preservatives, fillers, wheat, corn, and protein in dry and wet food. While the raw food diet can be more natural, especially if it is organic, you also have to make sure your pup would be getting more foods with vitamins and minerals mixed in with the raw food that your pup would need. Raw food diets can be more expensive, require more storage room for the meats and veggies, and take longer to prepare. However, you would be personally ensuring that your little French bulldog pup is getting their full daily nutrition without harmful by-products and additives. Is there a good dry food diet? Possibly the biggest questions out of all of them: is there any good dry dog food out there and how do I find them? The answer is yes, there can be some healthy dry dog food products, but it takes some time to look for. The key is to look for dog food that does not contain any preservatives, fillers, wheat, corn, and too much protein. Fillers basically do not provide any nutritional value and can even harm your dog since most of the ingredients they use as fillers are common allergies for dogs that can cause skin conditions, bowel issues, and more. Wheat and corn are included since they are also a popular allergen for dogs. Too much protein is even more dangerous for them since it can put more pressure on the organs, throw off nutritional balance, increase the likelihood of diabetes, and can harm dogs that already have diabetes. Another two meat choices would be duck and turkey, but these are a little less common to find, especially if you are looking for a French bulldog specific dog food. Your dog eats his food too quickly Another common problem is how do you control how fast your French bulldog puppy eats. French bulldogs love to eat their food and eat it fast, which is one of the primary causes of GDV. Frenchies will stop eating for a number of reasons, some more serious that others. Conclusion So there you have it, your guide to how much you should feed your French bulldog puppy. Everything in this feeding schedule and the French bulldog feeding chart you see is based on personal experience. Once in the morning, and once in the early evening. Keep a regular feeding routine, and your Frenchies will stay as healthy as ours has! Regardless, it is best to feed your puppy their old food for at least two weeks if you can. Then, you want to swap the proportions. After a few days, you can give your puppy only the new food. The most common is diarrhea. It might be worth a trip to the vet if your pup starts throwing up their meals, refuses to eat, or has allergic reactions to the new food. French Bulldog Puppy Diets French Bulldog puppy diets may consist of kibble, wet food, raw food , or homemade food. Each of these has pros and cons. Some pet owners go all in and make their own dog foods. This can get complex, as, with raw or homemade food, you have to be sure to give your dog all the nutrients they need to stay healthy. It is also typically more expensive than prepared meals kibble or wet food. However, the benefits might be important if done correctly. You know exactly what your dog is eating, no questions asked. Frenchies often have allergies and sensitive tummies. So you should avoid foods with too much protein but make sure meat is still the first ingredient! Also avoid or limit grains, soy, and wheat, as these are common allergens. The number of calories your puppy needs will depend on their age, weight, and exercise levels. Different types of food will also have different calorie levels. For example, they will generally need to eat more wet food than kibble for a balanced meal, because canned food has fewer calories. At the start of the day, weigh out the right amount on some scales and divide it between five bowls. Four of these will make up regular meals spread throughout the day, the final bowl is for you to put aside to use as training treats or to reward good behavior. This will help you to resist the temptation to use higher carb training treats. Feeding a French Bulldog Puppy Kibble The most affordable option, when considering both your time and money, is kibble. The most time-consuming and expensive are raw and homemade diets. You can find it easily at the store, and your only prep time will be to open it and pour it into a bowl. The biggest con is that there are some low-quality brands of kibble out there. As in any business, some are just in it for the money. However, these disadvantages can be overcome by choosing a high-quality brand. Look out for formulas specifically tailored for French Bulldogs. Specialized recipes are carefully shaped to help them out. Another good thing about wet food is that it keeps your dog hydrated. However, due to the water in wet food, it has fewer calories. Your pup will need to eat more wet food than dry food, making it the more expensive of the two. Wet food is also messier than dry, especially if your pup is a messy eater. It also takes time to prepare as you will need to buy the ingredients individually, and prepare the meals. Raw food also requires more clean-up time than any other food. Feeding a French Bulldog Puppy a Homemade Diet Feeding a puppy a homemade diet has many of the same pros and cons of feeding raw. Homemade food with properly cooked meats is less risky than a raw diet. It will still be costly and time-intensive though. Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published. In this section, we are going to discuss in detail how much to feed a French bulldog puppy. Like every dog, the French bulldog also needs a balanced diet since it was born to seniors. These figures we are giving here are average numbers because every dog is different and these numbers can different as well. You can follow these details as a general guideline to feed your puppy. Newborn puppies are just helpless. They cannot see because of their sealed eyelids. They are completely dependent on mummy French bulldogs. At this age, they just drink mummy milk, so you have nothing to do for the puppies. Their mother should take care of their puppies. You should simply ensure that their mother is caring for the puppies and that the mother dog is getting adequate rest and nutrition. From this age, Frenchie is able to see and hear as well, and even now they will be able to make noise too, but they still spend most of the time sleeping and feeding on mummy milk, which is good for them at this age. By this time, she would be ready to drink water from the bowl as well. If they are showing interest in drinking water from the bowl, then you should introduce them to a mushy mixture of puppy food and water. This food should contain mainly water. This mixture should be 3 parts of water and 1 part of dog food. This kind of food can be served to your Frenchies twice a day. And if you have already introduced them to puppy food with a mixture of water, then they should show interest in that as well. They eventually become independent of their mother. At the age of 6 weeks, they start to understand their surroundings. They should be eating mixed puppy food with water multiple times a day. They need regular replenishment because they exert a lot of energy. They are ready to go to their new home by the age of eight or nine weeks. At the age of 8 weeks, they should eat 4 meals a day, and throughout the meal, they eat approximately one and a half cups of puppy food. You should make sure that they are not overfed because obesity is a big problem with French bulldogs. According to their appetite, you should divide their meal portions for the whole day, but by the age of 9 months, 3 meals a day should be fine. They are growing rapidly, so you should make sure they are getting high-quality dog food with balanced nutrition. At the age of 10 weeks, they should have a well-established feeding routine, which is very important to monitor if they are getting proper nutrition during the day. They are very playful by the time At the age of 11 weeks, they should still eat one and a half cups of puppy food and they should follow the routine for a healthy lifestyle. Do not overfeed them. Try to avoid sharing your meal with them. Overfeeding is absolutely not good for their growth and development. By this time, they should be very familiar with their feeding routine and be ready to eat at mealtime. You should continue feeding them a balanced diet per the schedule. After 3 months now, you should start slowly increasing their meal size. The exact amount of meal size depends on their size, so you should make sure they are not overfed because they are known as lazy dogs, so if they get overfed they get overweight, which is not good for them. And they should not be underfed as well because they are still growing, so they should have a balanced diet. A piece or two of adult kibble is fine a couple of times a day. To avoid digestive issues, begin with a mix of half the adult dog food and half of the puppy dog food. As per the French bulldog growth chart, you should increase or decrease the small amount of food as per requirement. At about the age of 12 months, they are fully grown, and at their senior age, they need a change in their diet. Compared to growing French bulldogs, senior French bulldogs eat less and need fewer calories. About 3 to 4 weeks is a good age for weaned French bulldog puppies. When should I stop feeding my French Bulldog puppy food? For your French Bulldog, 9 to 12 months is a good time to slightly change from puppy food to adult food. How much dry food should I feed my French Bulldog? It depends on the age of the French bulldog puppies. For a 6-week-old puppy, you can feed 1 cup of dry food mixed with water about 3 times a day. The important thing to realize is that because puppies are still growing, they need more calories and nutrition than adults. In fact, feeding an adult diet to a puppy could lead to nutritional deficiencies. Likewise, feeding a puppy diet to an adult could cause excessive weight gain and its related issues. This is important to avoid, since obesity is the most common nutrition-related issue for canines. Knowing when to switch to adult dog food will help your puppy grow into a happy, healthy dog. Read on to learn how and when to switch to adult dog food. When to Switch Puppy to Adult Dog Food You should switch to adult dog food when your puppy is within the age range of months old. As you can see this is quite a big range, so this is just a general rule of thumb. Fully grown, these cute little canines generally weigh 12 pounds or less. Most tiny dogs should reach their adult weight, such as it is, around months old. Fully grown, they generally weigh between 12 and 25 pounds, and they will typically reach this adult weight at months of age. These dogs will reach a total of around 25 and 50 pounds at around months of age. At months of age, these dogs will reach their adult weight of 50 and pounds. These dogs will typically reach their adult weight between 12 and 24 months. Puppy foods have greater quantities of certain nutrients, including calories, because puppies require more macronutrients and minerals than an adult dog of the same size and weight. This important stage of growth and development requires a lot of energy, after all! This is why puppies are at risk for nutritional deficiencies and malnourishment if they are fed adult dog food. Adult dog foods have been designed to accommodate the decrease of energy levels and growth that comes with maturity. For starters, puppies need more protein and fat than an adult dog of the same size. They also require higher concentrations of certain minerals, vitamins, and amino acids. For this reason, puppy food is more calorie- and nutrient-dense. You will find essential nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and chloride all in greater concentrations in puppy food. Sometimes puppy foods are also supplemented with things such as extra omega-3 fatty acids. These can support healthy eye and brain development. Keep in mind that larger breeds can be at a greater risk of developmental diseases as a result of overly rapid growth. This is why large breed puppy foods have a little less fat, calcium, and phosphorus. They also have a very carefully balanced ratio of calcium to phosphorus. This ensures that they develop and grow at an appropriate and healthy pace. With that in mind, the best way to transition is slowly. This can even potentially lead to your dog refusing or disliking that particular type of dog food, because they associate it with feeling sick. So ease into it. A few days later, increase the amount of adult dog food to 40 percent, and reduce the amount of puppy food to 60 percent. Follow this pattern of increasing the amount of adult dog food, and make sure that you are removing the same amount of puppy food that you are adding in adult food. And if you run into any difficulties getting your dog to eat the new food, make sure to check out our guide on how to get your dog to eat. It has some helpful tips that might make the transition easier.
