The first show was a UKC show. Captain and Bailey competed and had a blast. Captain obtained his UKC Champion. Bailey obtained all of the points needed and is now only waiting for her competition wins. We cant wait to call her a UKC Champion too! Captain gained his National, International and Honors Ch. At only 3 months old, Dawn made it to Best of Show during this show! It is the best feeling in the world to see the smiles on their faces and their eyes lighting up! They all had a blast! Captain obtained his Honors Bronze Champion Title. Both girls did well. They both won first in each of their classes and Dawn won Reserve Best of Breed in all four shows. We were unable to attend due to puppies being at home, but didnt want the girls to miss out on a great weekend of showing! Dawn got first in class for all three shows. Benelli got first in class all three shows. Benelli also got Reserve Best Female in two show and Best female in one show. For being at a show without mama and dad, the girls did so good! What a great day! He came to us with a birth defect. When he was born part of his right front leg was non-functional. Shortly after birth, he lost that part and ended up with a non-functioning partial limb that limited his activities. After discussing the options for this fearless pup with our veterinarian and orthopedic surgeon, we decided it was best to amputate the limb. He now gets around just like any other puppy, zoomies and all. He is now in his loving home of a previous adopter and is the sweetest, happiest Golden ever! We thank Michelle and her family for giving him a forever home. Welcome home, Cooper! His eyes were so bad he was virtually blind and had lumps all over his body. Twelve weeks of strong antibiotics and steroids made him better. A few months later he was diagnosed with Grade 4 "Luxating Patella" his knee cap attached to the side of his leg in both his back legs. Due to his agehe was not able to have surgery until his bones matured and this made him quite crippled. On July 2, he was able to have his first surgery. The vet said it was much worse than expected. A lot of taking out bone, cutting bone, making a new groove and pinning. Also, muscle and tendons had to be cut and re-attached. He was in pain and needed rehab times a day but he was a strong, happy boy. He will never be totally normal but he should not be crippled. He had weeks of rehab and then got to do it all over again with his other leg. All in all, he was in therapy and rehab for almost 5 months. Cody will be at GoldenStock. Please come out and see him The Amazing 16 In December of I got a call about 16, 4 month old golden puppies needing help. The woman had three females and one male and the females all gave birth within a few days of each other. She was able to sell nine of the puppies but could not afford to feed the rest. She was feeding them oatmeal because it was cheap and filling. We drove to Miles City to pick them all up in minus 10 degree temps. Eventually they were all placed in loving homes. One girl, we almost missed as she was hiding under a chair, had hair full of ice and was shivering cold. We put a red ribbon around her and named her Fenway. If an owner gives in to this during the first year of puppy-hood, it can set up a foundation of begging behavior down the road. It is really difficult to not give in to those "puppy dog eyes" however, setting up rules and guidelines, with feeding in particular, lends to better health. While some "human" foods are perfectly fine for a canine to consume, it is the manner in which a dog is given that food that will either reinforce or discourage the begging. While home cooking for this breed is highly recommended, any food given off of an owner's plate is not a good idea. Once a dog is given any morsel, he will repeat the begging behavior again. A dog metaphorically thinks, "If I begged and received, surely all I need to do is keep up this behavior and I'm sure to eventually receive a treat again!
