Meet Sunny Shephard! We're thinking this pup is a German Shepherd mix, maybe about six months old. He's already close to 50 pounds so he will likely be a big boy! Sunny is a sweet, goofy, clumsy, happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He also has some strong shepherd working dog tendencies, so it'd be good for his new human s to either have some experience with shepherd dogs or be able to dedicate solid time to training with Sunny. He's an active dog and ready for adventure! Sunny is having a great time with adults, young kids, and some other dogs including his littermate Dawn but hasn't had much time with cats yet. He has not been fully integrated into a home environment, and we don't think he'd be a good fit for a household with small animals, since he's still working on getting to know them and not chase them. German Shepherd mixes tend to have a good amount of energy and want to burn that off, and Sunny is no exception! A fenced in yard would be great for him to run around, but keep in mind he does have a tendency to try to climb fences about 4. German Shepherd mixes like Sunny are excitable and require a good amount of exercise, but they are also extremely smart and highly trainable. It would be great to sign up for some puppy training classes with Sunny, so you can work on refining these skills together - plus, he'll get plenty of socialization time with other furry friends. Ready to make Sunny part of your family? Fill out an application and meet him soon! An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor. Breeds The link has been copied! However, the Border Collie Golden Retriever mix has a lot to offer as a pet. It can always be a little interesting to see what you get when mixing two dog breeds. Border Collies are mostly black and white, though there can be other colors. Goldens vary in color from light yellow to deep gold or red. The cross, sometimes called the Coltriever can be any color ranging from black and white to yellow, golden, brown, deep chocolate, or red. The best way to understand a designer dog breed a mix of two purebreds is to take a closer look at its parent breeds. As you might expect, they were used extensively for herding sheep over generations in this area. Eventually, they developed into excellent working dogs known for their intelligence, energy, and obedience. In fact, Border Collies have topped the list when it comes to ranking the smartest dog breeds. Border Collies are medium to large size dogs standing inches at the shoulder and weighing about pounds. They were made to work and require a job or at least lots of exercise and mental stimulation to be calm and happy. The Loving Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever has long been popular as a family dog in addition to being used for various jobs. Their affectionate personalities and loving attitude toward everyone they encounter are downright endearing. Interestingly, Golden Retrievers were originally developed for work. They are also from Scotland and are the result of the work of Lord Dudley Marjorbanks. He worked to produce an intelligent, hard-working dog from the extinct Tweed Water Spaniel and the Yellow Retriever. Golden Retrievers are pretty big, usually standing between inches tall and weighing up to 75 pounds. They are typically golden in color, but the shade can range from quite pale to a deep gold or red hue. However, the Golden Collie tends to be a larger dog, standing between inches and weighing pounds. Surprisingly for such a large dog, Coltrievers can handle living in small homes or even apartments — with proper exercise, of course. As descendants of the highly energetic Border Collie, these guys will go nuts if they are cooped up for too long! Goldens are famous for their easy-going, loving personalities. They are loyal, develop strong bonds with their families, and make wonderful playmates for children. As with any dog, it is important to meet their needs for mental stimulation and physical exercise. Because of their smarts, they may need more mental stimulation than other breeds but there are a lot of activities that count. Playing with the kids, puzzle games , fetch, swimming, jogging, hiking , and so much more make these pups super happy! The last section gives you a big hint — yes, Golden Border Retrievers make excellent family dogs. Because they need so much attention, it can be hard for a single person or even a couple who work outside the home to provide enough interaction for the dog. But you put a whole family in the house and that Golden Border Retriever is in heaven! They will happily play with your kids and will be gentle and loving. They will always let you know when a stranger is coming to visit! Everybody wants a well-behaved dog and it takes time and patience to achieve that. However, some dogs are easier to train than others. For busy families that may not have tons of time to dedicate to dog training, easy trainability is a big plus. Well, the Golden Border Retriever is a great choice. They can get themselves into trouble if they are bored, so plenty of mental stimulation and exercise is a must — or your furniture could pay the price. If you like the idea of a dog that can learn lots of cool and unusual tricks, this is a great dog to pick. They are also great dogs for competing in agility and other canine sports. Outside the home, Golden Border Retrievers are fantastic for use in a variety of jobs. Their smarts and obedience make them easy to use for herding, retrieving, and everything in between. But one thing is certain, they have a lot of hair and will shed frequently. Because these dogs are certainly not it. To keep their coats somewhat under control, expect to brush their hair at least once a week. Baths only need to happen about once or twice a month. Be careful not to bathe too frequently or their skin can dry out. And make sure to keep those floppy ears clean and dry to help avoid ear infections. Just as with humans, it depends on their age, size, activity level, and other factors. Adjust accordingly if you notice they are getting thinner or putting on more weight. For exercise, remember these guys are quite the energetic pups! It is best to provide your pup with at least 90 minutes of vigorous exercise daily. Though if your schedule allows, these pups will happily go strong for minutes a day and still race you to the front door! Health Concerns for the Golden Retriever and Border Collie Unfortunately, all dogs can get sick, regardless of their breed. That may be somewhat true for the breed as a whole, but individual dogs could also be susceptible to the health problems of both their parent breeds. For Coltrievers, this means they can be plagued by the health problems of both the Border Collie and the Golden Retriever. Both dog breeds are susceptible to bloat and allergies. Elbow and hip dysplasia are also common and may be passed on to their designer dog offspring. Border Collies can pass on progressive retinal atrophy and collie eye anomaly. Both of these conditions can cause loss of eyesight if not treated. Deafness and epilepsy are also common issues. Golden Retrievers contribute heart problems, other eye conditions like pigmentary uveitis, and, unfortunately, cancer. All in all, Golden Border Retrievers are generally healthy dogs and can be expected to live a long life with proper care. The average life expectancy of the crossbreed is around years. Breeders love the idea of mixing their intelligence and obedience with the looks or other characteristics of different dog breeds. Thus, there are quite a few options for Border Collie crossbreeds to choose from. The Border Aussie is very similar to the Border Collie in smarts and personality. Plus, this dog is smarter than the average toddler, so watch out and get ready to teach him lots of tricks! The Border Collie Chihuahua mix is a designer dog breed that has become quite famous in the last few years. That's because these dogs are smart, playful, and active. They also make great pets for people who live in small apartments or homes. The Border Collie German Shepherd mix , also known as the Shollie, is a unique and intelligent breed that combines the workaholic nature of the Border Collie with the protective instincts of the German Shepherd. These dogs are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and versatility, and they excel in a wide range of activities, from herding to search and rescue. A Bordoodle is a great option. With the right mix, the Poodle contributes a slightly curly, low-shed coat. The Golden Border Collie makes a fabulous companion for the right family. They can be content in an apartment or small home, but only if you have the time and energy to exercise them daily. They need to run at the local dog park, go on a hike, explore new areas, or participate in agility or other canine sports to get enough exercise. For this reason, they can be a better option if you have a house with a sizeable yard or live on a farm. If you have kids, these are great dogs to consider. They make loving and playful companions and your dog and the kids will help tire each other out. They may try to herd people around, which can be intimating for small children, but gentle correction usually takes care of that quite easily. These guys crave attention and love companionship so they will get lonely and anxious on their own for more than 6 hours every day. They are friendly and loving, even with strangers, so you can have guests over without worrying about your dog being suspicious or aloof. All in all, the Golden Border Retriever is a wonderful companion dog for active families. Find more helpful articles on pet-parenting at the Off Leash blog at TryFi. From a very young age we train our puppies in a few things that aid them in being successful adults as family members, companions, service dogs, agility dogs. The Coltriever is a mid sized dog, they weigh between pounds and are built similar to a Golden Retriever. Available Puppies Our next litter will be in September ready for their new home in early November. Usually we have… Early Learning Each of my litters is born inside my home, rather than a kennel setting. This allows them to hear the sounds and smell the scents associated with a household from the very start. They are continually exposed to the everyday sights and sounds of a family home. This includes potentially scary sounds such as vacuum… About Our Puppies I have been raising Coltrievers in Lacey, Washington since .They are a designer dog, which is a mix of Golden Retriever and Border Collie breeds. They are a mid- sized dog, weighing between 40 and 80 pounds. The conformation of a Coltriever is similar to a Golden Retriever. Their colors vary with some black… Thank you for giving me my Sprinkle. Our dog, Scout, was an instant playmate to my kids, aged 2 and 5. I fell in love with her, Queenie. I had to know what she was, where she was from, and how I could get one. I was told she was a Crooked Rooster Coltriever. Then, I remembered Crooked Rooster! I looked it up, contacted Holly and heard back within a couple hours. We talked on the phone for over an hour and a half. I fell in love with what Coltriever stood for and where they came from instantly. We set up a time to come tour the farm, and meet the puppies. We were placed in a pen with all the little all black Coltriever angels, and immediately saw Baloo. We knew he was the one. Baloo was the most perfect little squishy guy I had ever met. We chose him and have never looked back. He has changed our life for the better and has been the most amazing buddy we could have asked for. He loves other dogs so much, and so we contacted Holly to see if she had any litters available. She did! We went to meet them, and fell in love instantly with Tibbs, just like Baloo. Holly talked us through our meet and greet with the boys and what we should look for in how they interact. Holly is always very knowledgeable about her puppies and it makes you feel very safe about making this big of a life decision. I am now obsessed with our two Coltrievers, and am excited to have them apart of our life forever! They are active, dedicatedly loyal, and have an intense eagerness to please their owners just for a little attention. Their obedience is quickly reflected through their affectionate and friendly nature, thus making them good with kids. Though some Gollies might tend to be shy, they are highly sociable, being in a jovial mood most of the time. Hence, they do not do well when kept alone for extended periods. Some dog enthusiasts think that so much of cheerfulness in their character failed to make them a good guardian. This assumption, however, is not correct, since their alertness is readily apprehensible from their barking instinct. Gollies are very active and responsive, making for excellent watchdogs. They would start to bark the moment they come across a stranger around and alert their family members about the same. Care Exercise These canids need regular exercise to burn down their calories. Take them out on a walk or jog on a routine basis to channelize their energy positively. Let them play in an enclosed yard if you have one. A total of around 90 minutes of daily physical activities is enough for this breed. Grooming The coat of the Golden Collie is average to long, and their shedding is moderate to high. For this, they need high maintenance, especially if your dog is double-coated, having a long and rough outer coat with a soft undercoat. Brush them regularly, at least times a week, so as to keep their coat smooth and glossy. Regular brushing also promotes blood flow and enhances hair growth. Hence, it is better to consult your breeder about the health history of its parents. Interactive toys that make sounds or dispense treats would give your dog the incentive to work harder. Try frozen Kong toys stuffed with peanut butter. This trick should work. To prevent your dog from being overly excited when your guests come in, teach him to display a controlled behavior when the doorbell rings. Ask your puppy to sit close to the door, and press the doorbell, holding a treat in your hand. If your puppy starts to show any sign of excitement, go close to it and ask it to calm down, showing the gift, but do not give it away. Next, repeat the process and do the same, if your dog shows any sign of excitement. Give the treat as it obeys you and sits down calmly. Doing this activity from time to time would help your dog will learn to put a check to its overly wild behavior as well as refrain from incessant barking habits. Since they are known to shed frequently, they can cause allergies and other irritations. The basic grooming processes needed are: Brushing their furs weekly with a solid bristle brush to prevent them from shedding their coats too much; Cleaning their ears weekly to prevent ear infections; Bathing of one to two times a month; and Having their nails trimmed once they get too long. For first time owners who do not have experience with grooming dogs, this can be difficult because this breed requires high-maintenance grooming. You should see a veterinarian first to ask the grooming practices necessary for your dog. You need to follow the practices always. Excessive shedding is possible, so bath should be given at most twice a month. Their skins can also dry out if bathing is done irregularly. When bathing your dog, use a shampoo specialized for their furs to keep the quality. This mix is also prone to ear infections. Prevention is better than cure, so every week cleaning of the ear should be done. Their ears are one of the essential parts of their body. They cannot carry out their daily activities if their ears are in bad condition. Also, you must also trim their nails if they got too long to avoid future injuries from scratches. There are times that they even scratch their skins, so you must always monitor their nails. Golden Border Retriever Health Problems If the parents of the mixes have disorders, the chances are high that the offspring can inherit the disorder. However, there are cases in which the puppies are healthy even if one of the parents is diagnosed with a disease. It is better to check the pedigree of the crossbreed to verify if it is free from a severe illness. In biology, there is an incident known as hybrid vigor; it means that the offspring is better than its parents in several aspects such as physical characteristics and health. When you adopt a Golden Retriever Border Collie crossbreed, these are the following disorders that can attack your puppy: Skin Allergies Heart Diseases Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Because this breed shed too much, they are vulnerable to skin allergies. Once grooming is not taken care of, allergies can follow. Aside from the allergies that the shedding will bring you, your dog can also be affected by excessive removals of coats. Even though they are medium-sized dogs, bloating is also common to them. When the food matrix is not followed correctly, obesity can happen; it is a prerequisite to severe disorders. The excess weight of your dog can result in heart problems. As mentioned, this breed is highly intelligent, one of the mental diseases that this breed can develop is the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD which can be similar to humans. It will be a nuisance not just for your dog, but to you also. If they have their check-ups regularly, most of these mixes live up to 15 years. Make sure to prioritize their health. Border Collie Mixed with Golden Retriever Food Requirements Researches have proven that the amount of food intake in an individual dog is varying. The nutritional requirement of each dog is dependent on factors like weight, height, and the activities done by your dog. In the case of Border Collie mixed with Golden Retriever puppies, there is also no suggested food servings. For this breed, table foods or the foods consumed by humans cannot be fed to them. They are sensitive regarding the food they are eating. The dog food that you must give to the puppies should contain the necessary amount of vitamins and minerals for their growth. Puppies can be fed thrice in a day. As they grow, their needs for food is decreasing. To prevent obesity in dogs, a meal given twice in a day is recommended. Make a schedule on when to feed them so that they will be used to it; make sure to follow it regularly. In feeding your dogs, make sure to check the suggested amount of servings in the pack of the dog food that you bought. Monitoring the feeding habit of your dogs is essential. Their optimum performance will be achieved if they are given the right amount of food. There are also diets designed for highly skilled dogs. You should consult a veterinarian if you are planning a diet for your dog. Make sure to match their food matrix with their activities. If you want to give your pooch a happy and healthy life, start with nutrition. Avoid food that could be harmful to their health, such as the worst dry dog food. In case you brought a puppy to your home and the little munchkin is just getting used to regular food, take a look at the list of the best puppy food brands. Older dogs should also eat healthy food which is suggested in the best senior dry dog list. Your puppies come from two different parents, which makes them more likely to grow to love dry dog food for small dogs or best large breed dry dog food. They require long hours of exercise. An average of 90 minutes a day is recommended. The hours needed for their exercise is comparably longer to the number of minutes required by some breeds. The reason for this is their highly active lifestyle. Without exercise, the level of their energy can be difficult to match. Even if you are not supervising them, they can exercise on their own. Allocate a place in your home where they can play around. They will eventually stop exercising once they get tired because these dogs know their limits. If you have a backyard at your home, it is the perfect spot for your dog to exercise. Let it run around your yard. With that simple activity, risks of developing serious heart conditions can be reduced. Besides, extra calories can also be burned; therefore, they can be less prone to obesity. As discussed, Golden Collie can make a great exercise companion. You can have them join you in your exercise routines such as: Jogging. Both working breeds may do different tasks, but combining them makes an intelligent, loving, obedient, and agile offspring. Getting to know the Border Collie and Golden Retriever will already give a hint of what your Coltriever would be like in terms of looks and behavior. Through generations, this sheepdog which is the definition of the term Collie in Scottish became popular. Nowadays, Border Collies are touted as the smartest and the most excellent herding dog. They have a height of 18 to 22 inches 46 to 56 cm and a weight of 30 to 45 pounds 14 to 20 kg , where the females are a tad smaller. Black and white are the most common combination seen in the breed, though. They have high energy levels that would require lots of physical and mental stimulation. The popular and affectionate Golden Retriever A lord named Dudley Marjorbanks of the Scottish Highlands wanted to create a gundog that can adjust well to rugged grounds and rainy climates. After long years of breeding, he finally got the hardworking and smart Golden Retriever. Goldens are beautiful, large dogs that can stand between 21 to 24 inches 53 to 6 cm and can weigh up to 75 pounds 34 kg. They can either have wavy or straight hair, and feathering on their chest, underbody, legs, and tail. It can be light or dark gold, and some have a paler shade that gives a cream hue. Goldens are bright and are often used in different kinds of jobs, such as search and rescue missions. What does a Border Collie Golden Retriever mix look like? The Golden Border Collie will either inherit features from both its parents or more on one parent. Since both of the parent breeds have a fairly dense, double-layered coat, so will this hybrid. Some may get the rough and corded fur of the Border Collie, while others get the wavy and silky look of the Golden Retriever. The colors of the Border Golden Retriever can vary from black, black and white, yellow or golden, light or dark brown, chocolate, and red. Most of them have markings on their face and chest. Both the Borders and Goldens range from moderate to heavy shedders, so expect the Coltriever to do so as well. How big do Border Collie-Golden Retriever mixes get? When full-grown, this mixed breed can weigh 45 to 75 pounds 20 to 34 kg , with a height of 24 to 25 inches 61 to 64 cm. With the easy-going, happy, and kind personality of the Golden Retriever, and the eager to please, hardworking, and intelligent Border Collie, this crossbreed seems to be quite a perfect canine. Are Border Collie Golden Retrievers good family dogs? Border Golden Retrievers may not be an excellent guard dog or watchdog, but you can rely on them to be top-notch alarms! If you keep a pretty garden, it may be an issue because this pooch loves digging and getting dirty in the mud. Once she sees a muddy area, distract her away from it. Is the Golden Retriever Border Collie mix easy to train? This crossbreed is very trainable as it inherited the intelligence of the Border Collie and Golden Retriever. You can start training from puppyhood to help avoid behavioral issues from developing, too. Agile dogs will do excellent at agility rings, but with this mixed breed, they can do so much more! Their high energy levels would require them to be active as much as they can. As a pet, a lot of walking, running, hiking, and swimming would be great. For mental stimulation, there are a lot of puzzle toys where you can hide treats, and the dog has to figure out how to get it. Kick it up a notch because the Golden Border Retriever is considered as a sporting and working dog, too. They can be trained and used for herding, retrieving, and other canine sports. This designer pooch has a coat that helps it adjust in all weather conditions. Bathing should only be done once or twice a month, or when necessary, to avoid drying out her skin. Weekly brushing is needed to keep her hair from taking over your house. It should depend on factors such as their size, age, daily activities, and their current health condition. A Border Collie would generally require to 1, calories a day, while a Golden Retriever needs to 1, calories. For their mixed-breed offspring, it can be anywhere between those numbers. There are also dog foods that are best for working or sporting dogs. The Coltriever requires at least 90 minutes of exercise a day. With their high activity level, you can give your fur baby up to minutes, if your time and energy allow it. A technique you can do is start slow, then increase the time of exercise gradually as you go. Health problems the Golden Retriever and Border Collie cross may inherit No matter if the dog is pure or a crossbreed, all canines are susceptible to particular ailments. The breed parents may pass health conditions to their litter, especially the illnesses that they both have. Golden Retrievers are prone to heart problems like subvalvular aortic stenosis, eye conditions such as pigmentary uveitis, as well as cancer. Other diseases that the Border Collie and Golden Retriever mix may have are allergies, bloating, and elbow and hip dysplasia. With proper care combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle, your Golden Border Retriever can enjoy their average life expectancy of 12 to 15 years. Border Collie Golden Retriever mix breeders Reputable breeders test their dogs used in breeding for genetic conditions that are common in each breed. They are going to provide medical certificates as proof that the Border Collie and Golden Retriever parents are free of ailments before breeding. Get the chance to observe if the puppies were born and raised in a clean place. Lifespan Sociability Given how well-known its parent breeds are, you may think that you already understand everything about Golden Border Retrievers—and you might be right. If you value your lawn or garden, this dog may not be right for you. They love everyone and everything, although they may be a bit shy around strangers. Are These Dogs Good for Families? In fact, you may need to enlist the entire family in tuckering these dogs out, as meeting their exercise requirements may be overwhelming for a single person. Having multiple family members who can take turns throwing a ball or a stick definitely comes in handy. Golden Border Retrievers are generally welcoming to strangers, although socialization helps in this regard. Also, they have strong herding instincts, so while they may not chase or attack your cat or other small pet, they may try to push it around a little bit. Here are a few things you should know about the breed before you bring one home. That usually means kibble with plenty of protein in it, preferably from a variety of lean meats. Protein burns more slowly than carbs do, so your pup will have plenty of energy to stay active all day long. The primary ingredients to watch out for in a kibble are cheap fillers like corn, wheat, and soy. These are packed with empty calories and can cause digestive issues in some dogs. Instead, look for high-quality fruits and veggies. These dogs fail to see the appeal of an afternoon spent in front of the television. They need exercise—a great deal of it. These brainy pups love to be challenged, so obedience training, agility work, and puzzles are all likely to go over well with one of these pooches. Their big brains can quickly figure out what you want them to do, and they love to make you happy. As noted above, these dogs have destructive tendencies that need to be curbed, and they need proper socialization if you expect them to have good manners in public. You can teach these dogs to do just about anything. They respond well to positive reinforcement while punishing them is likely to backfire. Praise and affection are generally all you need to use as rewards, so be careful about handing out treats. You can quickly overload these dogs with cookies if you give them one every time they do something right. Their other grooming needs are fairly typical. They need their teeth brushed several times a week, their nails trimmed as needed, and their body bathed a couple of times a year. Be careful not to bathe them too often, though, as that can strip their coats of essential oils and dry out their skin. Below are a few of the issues that may come up if you bring one of these dogs home. Minor Conditions. Bloat Ear infections The best way to avoid these issues from arising is to get your golden collie mix from a reputable breeder. Gollies are considered to be generally healthy and have an average life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. Feeding A Collie Golden Retriever Mix Diet plays a huge role in the life of every dog and is very important for the overall well-being and health of your mix. An adult Golden Collie mix should eat dog food designed for large breed dogs with high energy and have two evenly-spaced meals a day. Since this mix can easily become bloated, you should stick with a consistent feeding schedule and avoid free-feeding your dog. When it comes to puppies, opt for a high-quality puppy food for large breed dogs and feed your mix four times a day until they reach adulthood. Once you bring your new puppy home, continue feeding the same brand of dog food the breeder was using and wait at least a month to transition your pooch to a different formula. They are moderate to heavy shedders, so be prepared to be engulfed in dog hair, particularly during the shedding season. To stay on top of all of that loose hair and remove dirt and dander, you will have to brush your Gollie mix three times a week. During the shedding season, you should brush your dog daily or every other day, depending on how much loose hair he or she is leaving all over your house. When it comes to bathing, you should bathe your Gollie only when necessary, or roughly every couple of months. If you notice anything unusual like redness or swelling, take your dog to the vet as soon as you can to avoid the occurrence of painful ear infections. After learning more about this delightful crossbreed, you might still be wondering whether a golden collie is the right dog for you. Ask yourself the following questions to help decide. Where Do You Live? Golden border retrievers are relatively large dogs, and they also have lots of energy. To be at their happiest and healthiest, these dogs need enough space to gallop around and play on a regular basis. They will do best if they have a bit of outside space to call their own. Also, are there dog parks near you where your dog can get their daily exercise? Living within walking distance of an off-leash dog park is ideal when you have a Gollie. These dogs not only make great companions, but they also need a lot of companionship. If they are left alone for extended periods of time, they are likely to develop depression and anxiety. Not only is this bad for them, but it can also be bad for you, as their restlessness tends to manifest as destructive behavior. If you are going to need to leave your pup home alone for more than six hours at a time on a regular basis, you might need to consider a different breed. One of the things that stands out most about collie golden dogs is how much energy they have. In order to manage their excess energy, they need anywhere from 90 to minutes of exercise per day! They will need to be able to run off-leash and play fetch. Is this consistent with your lifestyle? Do you and your family have the time and energy to give this dog the exercise that they need? Are you up for weekend hiking adventures and swims? Are You Experienced With Dogs? With that said, however, these playful pups also need a firm hand to guide them. How Old Is Your Family? If you have kids in the house as well, you might want to consider the age of your kids. Not only do these dogs tend to have the urge to herd younger children, but their energy and playfulness can be overwhelming for younger family members. Plus, you might not want to be running around caring after both a toddler and a hyperactive collie Golden. They fit in much better with older children who can share in the responsibility of looking after them. Exactly how much you can expect to pay for a collie Golden pup always depends on the supply and demand in your area. How big do Gollies get? Golden border retrievers can grow to be quite large, typically measuring up to 26 inches tall and weighing up to 75 pounds, but they can also be significantly smaller. To get an idea of how big a pup is likely to be as an adult, look at their parents. Remember that the female is always the largest of the two to prevent complications at birth. You can expect female pups to be roughly the same size as the smaller of their parents, while males usually take after the larger parent. However, there are always surprises with mixed-breed dogs. The Verdict On Gollies When you mix a border collie and a golden retriever, you get a friendly and intelligent Gollie that is incredibly eager to please. Golden collies are extremely high energy dogs. They need lots of exercise, lots of mental stimulation, and lots of love. It is a serious long-term commitment to adopt one of these dogs into your life. If you spend extended hours in the office and prefer to spend the weekend on the couch, you might find that you are not a good match for them. Still, while these dogs are certainly a lot of work, they are more than worth the effort. There are few dogs that are more loving and affectionate. The bond that you will form will be transformational, and you might wonder how you managed before they came into your life. Overall, Gollies are: Friendly but not the best watchdogs Highly intelligent and loyal Extremely athletic and high-energy, meaning they need regular, intense exercise Do you have experience raising border collie and golden retriever mix dogs? My name is Anne Glasgow and I have been breeding and showing golden retrievers for 35 years. Here is my story. I fell in love with the golden retriever when I was hiking in the woods near Edmonton, Alberta in and I ran into a man who had the most beautiful dog I had ever seen, the golden retriever. His dog took my breath away and I then became passionate about the breed. I then went on to study at the university in biology, and then psychology, married a biologist and then finally in purchased my first golden retriever. Since I was 12 years old, I began attending dog shows just watching the beautiful dogs and I set a goal to one day show my own dog. I have always loved animals, just like my father who was a vet in the Ukraine. In , I purchased my first foundation golden, Rosie, CH. Rosie was a solo pup bred from champion parents. Although I bought her as a pet, I dreamed of showing my own dog, so I entered her in a show in Red Deer and guess what, she won 5 points the first time in the show ring. My husband was totally surprised and in disbelief. I was also informed that the judge wanted to give Rosie Best of Breed, but I was outhandled by another exhibitor. Anyway, Rosie went on to win at every show I had her in and I was hooked. She was my first brood bitch and she produced many champion goldens, including Group 1 winning dogs. I kept one of her beautiful pups, a multi Group Winner, Ch. She also produced a multi-group winning bitch, Ch. Glynspur Ghost Buster. Terra was an outstanding female in conformation, intelligence and temperament. After moving to Calgary, Rosie passed away at the age of 13, and then I was fortunate to get back a golden I had co-owned with Marty and Lorna Paetz and her name was Tika — Ch. Tika just passed away at the age of 12, one year after winning Brood Bitch in a Golden Specialty. Tika was a wonderful and beautiful golden — she was calm in nature, a natural in retrieving and beautiful to look at. She had tons of coat, bone, angles, an excellent top line and a gorgeous head. She finished her championship as a puppy, winning Best of Breed and Group 1 puppy. Bond accumulated 7, points that year, beating the all time winner Ch. Anyway, this is my story of how I got into goldens and developed a passion for the golden retriever. We had been entertaining. We never felt pressured to buy, they let our kids play and love on the puppies and invited them back if they ever wanted some puppytime. When we explained what we were looking for, they listened. They didn't force any puppy on us, in fact the 1st day we even walked away empty handed; as we had done so many other times before when checking out puppies. They were super understanding of our need to process and assess. But as we went home that night we couldn't stop talking about how well socialized these puppies were. And well, there was this one that seemed like the perfect fit for us. And even when we went back the next day, they never pressured us. In fact Kevin said you have to know for sure. This isn't just a transaction to them this is "placing a puppy with the right family and the right family with one of their puppies". We played with them and explained we needed to think about it a bit more, so we walked and talked and went back a 3rd time to decide what we wanted to do. The truth is, they do such a good job socializing their puppies with older and younger dogs that we knew this specific girl would be the right fit for us. I had zero success finding a reputable place in NY and as seeing as I vacation to FL almost every year, it occurred to meto do my research and look in FL. I even met a couple on my plane ride home who got their two dogs from them and they are happy, healthy and thriving. I first met Kim.Kim was so kind and understanding. They are a delightful all-around dog that has such strong qualities, it has been a parent breed for dozens of hybrid breeds. Their eyes are dark and brilliant and reveal their intelligence. Their nose is refined at the end of a long, narrow snout, and their teeth meet in a strong scissor bite. A miniature variation dictates that Teacup-Toy Poodles will have a squarely-built body with a deep chest and muscled shoulders. Their stance is elegant but sturdy, and their tail stands straight up. Their hair is typically dense, curly, and even wiry. Their coats come in many colors: White. Temperament: Playful, loving and energetic. Teacup Poodle Appearance They are one of the most adorable dogs around. They look like shrunken poodles and have thick, curly fur with big dark eyes. Height and Weight They are one of the smallest dog breeds and will weigh lbs. From their paws to the top of their shoulders they are only inches tall. These tiny pups can typically fit in the palm of an adult hand. Colors and Coat These Teacups come in a variety of colors including white, grey, black, red, brindle, silver and apricot. Some have spots of various other colors in their coats, but breeders typically prefer solid coat colors. They have thick medium length curls just like that of a Poodle. These curls are silky and sometimes difficult to maintain and can quickly develop knots in their fur if they are not frequently brushed. The best perk of owning a Teacup Poodle is that they do not shed. They are great for people with allergies because they are hypoallergenic. Their dead fur comes off but it stays trapped within their tight curls, only falling out during brushing. Solid colored varieties are more expensive because they are considered more desirable. They absolutely adore water, but do not let them go swimming in deep water — they are so small they could easily drown. Some people believe they are produced by breeding runts from Toy Poodle litters to produce the smallest version of a poodle possible. They have a very small litter size of puppies. Teacup Poodle Personality and Temperament If you are looking for a playful and cuddly dog, a Teacup Poodle is a great choice. They love attention and always want to be close to you. They get so attached to their owner tat they suffer from separation anxiety, so you cannot really leave them home for long periods of time by itself. Their attention-seeking disposition does make them very loyal though. These pups are extremely playful but play with caution. Rough play can result in unanticipated injuries internally and externally. Whilst playing make sure to be extra gentle and not get too rowdy. Although these pooches are very playful they only have a moderate activity level. If you are not an active person they could be a good fit for you. Their tiny bodies can only contain so much energy, so they do not need as much exercise as large dog breeds. A few short walks and a small amount of playtime will keep them happy. They have a watchdog nature despite having the least intimidating appearance of any dog breed in existence so sometimes they will bark excessively if they are not trained. Because of their intelligence this issue is fairly easy to correct. Due to their pleasant disposition socialization comes naturally to these pups. They love to meet new people and adore attention. They get along well with other animals but keep them away from large pets to avoid injuries. Teacup Poodles are only a good family dog for older families. Younger children can often be too chaotic for these nervous pups — also little kids can not quite comprehend how much caution needs to be taken with these tiny pups. Caring for a Teacup Poodle Do not let their cute face fool you, they require constant care. These pups are definitely not for first-time dog owners. Teacup Poodles have tricky coats to maintain and need to be constantly supervised. They also have some diet restrictions and come with many medical conditions. Luckily though these pups do not require much exercise. Exercise Requirements They have a moderate energy level so they do not need an excessive amount of exercise per day. Two minute walks a day along with minutes of playing should be enough. Exercising them can be a bit tricky because they are so incredibly fragile. Their small bodies make long walks, playing outside, and even running around dangerous. With the right precautions you can easily tire them out. It is important you use a harness when you walk them. Because they have such a small neck, a simple tug of a leash can cause severe injuries to your pup if they are wearing a regular collar. You can take them outside but you need to monitor them very closely. They can easily jump off heights and injure themselves, squeeze under fences, or even become easy prey for coyotes or large birds. Never take your eye off one of these small pups. Number of Walks Per Day: 2. Grooming and Shedding The grooming is probably the most complex aspect of these adorable dogs. Teacup Poodles have the same curly, medium length, thick coats that regular poodles have. The perk of these springy curls is that they do not shed — but that does not mean that taking care of their fur is easy. They should be brushed every single day. Their tight curls can easily become matted or tangled, so it is essential that you brush them often to remove dead hair from their coats. Because they have small curls, you cannot brush them exactly like you would brush other dog breeds. It is recommended that you wet their hair with a spray bottle before brushing to avoid pain for your breakable pup and help you brush with ease. Finally, the last part of their extensive grooming routine is monitoring their tear stains. It is very common to see brown gunk below the inner corner of their eyes. To reduce tear stains you can purchase tear stain remover. Feeding and Diet As these pups are so small it is very easy to overfeed them. These little guys can quickly become a little chunky. Feeding them multiple times a day is especially important to avoid your pal developing low blood sugar. Any type of food wet or dry will work, but it is best to buy dog food that is made specifically for small dog breeds, this will help keep those extra pounds off your pup. It is also important to purchase a food that is high in proteins to give your miniature Teacup Poodle the energy it needs to maintain its playful personality. Although you may be tempted to feed them the remainder of your dinner, it is very important that you resist this urge. Avoid feeding them human scraps as it will quickly lead to obesity. These tiny little pups are loyal and loving and can fit just about anywhere! Also intelligent, the Teacup Poodle will keep you on your toes and carries many of the same characteristics as their standard sized parents. This breed is selectively bred and is a variation of the Toy Poodle. The only difference between the Toy Poodle and the Teacup Poodle is their size, so we can look to the Toy Poodle for a lot of information about the Teacup. Breed Origin The Poodle is one of the most popular dogs in the world and is in fact one of the oldest pure bred dogs. These dogs originated in Germany and were originally bred to be a working and gun dog that made the perfect hunting dog. The Poodle has a waterproof coat and great retrieving talents. Nowadays, this breed is more known as a lapdog rather than a working dog. They are bred in smaller breeds so that more people can enjoy having a Poodle as a best friend. The Teacup variation of this breed has been selectively bred from the Toy Poodle and must be under 9 inches in height and less than 6 pounds in weight to qualify as a Teacup. Teacup puppies are normally born in litters of one to two, although occasionally there can be more. They weigh around 2 pounds when born and will only grow to around 5 pounds once fully grown. They also are always under 9 inches in height. This is because of the selective breeding process and the fact that there are fewer dogs in every litter. Although there are no official breed standards, the general rule of thumb is that a Teacup Poodle is 9 inches in height and they weigh less than 6 pounds, whereas a Toy breed is less than 10 inches. Their breed is very elegant looking, no matter the size, and they always stand poised. Their eyes are also small, dark and are always alert and they have a long muzzle with floppy furry ears. Coat Their coat is curled and thick and they do not shed any fur. This means they are a hypoallergenic dog and are perfect for those with allergies. Unlike other Poodle mix dogs who may have a mixture of different fur colors, this dog only comes in solid colors. This way, you can determine whether you are being sold a purebred Poodle or not. They are extremely loving and make great companions for everyone, including individuals, families and the elderly. Because of their size, too, they fit into many different environments and will do well in apartments and in city living and also in large homes in the country or in open-spaced environments. Their exercise needs are not great, although they do get bored very easily and do not like to be left alone. If they are left alone for too long they will begin to suffer from separation anxiety and exhibit destructive behaviors. Lifespan The life expectancy of a Teacup dog is relatively long. These dogs can be expected to live anywhere between 12 to 14 years. Some of these problems are similar to the issues that may be carried by their standard sized ancestors due to their genetic similarities. These include: Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA — this is an eye disorder that eventually causes blindness from the loss of photoreceptors at the back of the eye. Dysplasia — this is normally seen in large dogs but can affect different joints in the body. Also, because of their selective breeding and small size, they are also prone to some other health issues. You should always check with the breeder you are buying from to see whether the dogs show any signs of these problems. The three most common are hypoglycemia low blood sugar , heart defects and patella luxation. Patella luxation is a common condition in smaller dogs and is caused when the patella is not properly aligned. This can cause lameness in the leg or an abnormal gait, sort of like a skip or a hop. To ensure you identify the signs of any of these issues early, ensure you take your dog to the vet for regular checkups. Daily Life Fortunately, taking care of a Teacup Poodle in day-to-day life is not too challenging. They do not have as many needs as other sizes of the Poodle breed. Food And Diet Because they are small dogs , their food needs are not huge. Experts recommend that you feed your Teacup Poodle approximately calories per day, which is the equivalent to approximately 1 cup of high quality dry kibble per day. You should try them on a diet that is specially formulated for toy sized breeds, so you are ensuring that they get the right nutrients. You can also reward them with treats when they exhibit good behavior, as well as fruit snacks. Exercise The Teacup Poodle does not have great exercise needs, because of their size. Despite this, they still need to be walked every day. Exercising your dog can be a great way to bond with them and increase mental stimulation, as well as allowing them to experience new sights and sounds. Experts recommend you take your Teacup Poodle for no more than a 30 minute short walk a day. It is best that you split the walk into three so they do not over exert themselves. This way you could take them in the morning, in the middle of the day and in the evening and you could vary the locations to give your dog new experiences. Your dog will also benefit from toys at home that will increase bonding time with you. Keep in mind that a Teacup Poodle has trouble keeping warm because of their small size. If you live in a colder area, your Teacup will benefit from a sweater or jacket to keep warm! Family Compatibility Poodles love humans and make great companions for everyone, including families. Because of their size, Teacup Poodles can fit into any home, whether you live in an apartment in the city of whether you live in a large house in the countryside. They love to be around you, so they are not well suited to a family that is going to be out for most of the day. That being said, they are extremely loving and a great lapdog — and small enough so you might be able to take them with you! The Teacup may feel intimidated when being held by small children and therefore get a little cranky. Fortunately, with early socialization, this can be fixed. Training Teacup Poodles are easy to train, which is another reason many people love these dogs. They are naturally intelligent which makes your life a lot easier, especially if you have never trained a dog before. Teacups want to learn and want to please and they respond well to positive reinforcement. This includes verbal praise and treats. You will also need to socialize them, especially because they are small. They need to be introduced to other people and animals from a young age so they learn how to interact. You should aim to do this twice a week. You should also clip their nails and brush their teeth. To help prevent dental decay and disease, daily brushing is the normally recommended. Teacup Poodles certainly do well in a family environment and love to be around people. They can feel intimidated when they are around small children, so it is not usually advised to house them with young children. However, this can be fixed with socialization. They can live in both small apartments or in big houses, as long as you give them enough love. How much do Teacup Poodles cost? They are expensive because they can be difficult to breed and there is normally only one or two puppies in a litter. If this is too expensive for you, you may find a Teacup Poodle at your local shelter who needs a home. Summary Teacup Poodles are an adorable, friendly and loving dog. Ensure that you give them the right amount of food, exercise them every day and play games with them and they will love you forever! Teacup Poodles love to be around people and can make the perfect family dog. They are not difficult to train and walking is minimal, so they make a great pet to everyone! Originally, the poodle originated in Germany around the early 14th century and was used as a hunting dog that retrieved waterfowl. The poodle is also the national dog of France and is widely known for being intelligent, loyal, and loving. Over time, smaller sizes of this pup began being bred, and the poodle became more popular as a companion or lap dog. The miniature poodle originated in the early 20th century when American breeders started to create a more city-friendly poodle. The smallest puppies from toy poodle litters were used for breeding teacup poodles, achieving their small size. However, despite this small stature, the teacup poodle has a lot to offer owners. They lack none of the intelligence of the standard-sized poodle, and they are alert, friendly, and easy to train. Teacup poodles form strong bonds with their owners and are playful and affectionate, but they may be prone to nervousness if not properly cared for or left alone for too long. Teacup poodles stand no more than 9 inches tall and weigh up to 6 pounds. They have round heads with a slight stop, much like standard-sized poodles, floppy ears, and a longer muzzle. Their eyes are typically small and dark, but very alert, and they will have a longer neck, square body, and straight back with long legs. The coat of the teacup poodle is thicker, curly, and soft and will need to be brushed often to prevent tangles. What Size Is a Teacup Poodle? Teacup poodles are, as the name implies, pretty small dogs. This pup will stand no more than 9 inches tall and weigh less than 6 pounds. They can be quite fragile because of their small size, so you will need to pay extra attention to your dog while it is playing or moving around your home. The teacup poodle has a coat much like the standard-size poodles. Teacup poodles are considered to be hypoallergenic, so they may be a beneficial breed for those with allergies. The teacup poodle has a friendly disposition and is intelligent, alert, loyal, and loving. This pup tends to become very attached to their owners and will often be seen following them from room to room. Teacup poodles are also very smart and can pick up tricks easily. They are eager to please and will love the time spent with you learning new commands. Teacup poodles are not known to have a high prey drive or act very aggressively toward other animals, though they may be quite vocal if they notice something suspicious around their home. Are Teacup Poodles Affectionate? Teacup poodles are very affectionate and will enjoy spending as much time with their owner as possible. You can expect your teacup poodle to enjoy cuddling on the couch, sleeping in the same room as you at nighttime, and wanting to play frequently throughout the day. The small size of this breed makes them quite fragile, so rough play with children can lead to the dog becoming injured. Lots of yelling, excitement, and busy play from smaller children can also scare your teacup poodle, creating anxiety, nervousness, or barking issues. That being said, families with older, calmer children and children that know how to properly play with animals can easily get along with this pup. Teacup poodles are generally good with other animals as they are a friendly and social pup. Are Teacup Poodles Aggressive? Your teacup poodle may even be up to the challenge of learning more advanced tricks depending on their intelligence and how quickly they learn. Are Teacup Poodles Energetic? Teacup poodles have a moderate energy level and are a very playful breed. This pup will need two short walks per day that last around 15 minutes each and are likely to expend a lot of energy running around their home and playing with their toys and their families. As long as they have toys around their home and enough space to get their zoomies out from time to time, they will fit well into apartment living. However, you should keep in mind that this pup can be noisy from time to time, so training to curb needless barking is a must. Are Teacup Poodles Good Watchdogs? They are also fairly protective and loyal to their owners, which makes them easily fall into the watchdog role. While teacup poodles may be intelligent and quickly learn many tricks and commands, they are not the best size for acting as service dogs. This breed is too small to help with guiding and mobility support-related tasks, and they are not typically able to fetch heavy items for their owners. However, teacup poodles love being around their owners. So they are a good choice for a companion pup, making them eligible to act as a therapy dog or an emotional support animal. You will need to spend lots of time with your teacup poodle, as this breed is prone to anxiety and loneliness without their owners, something that can easily translate into destructive behaviors. Your teacup poodle should be eating a diet of high-quality dry or wet food and, depending on their size, should be consuming between half a cup and one full cup of food per day approximately calories. Due to their small size, teacup poodles may be prone to certain health conditions that affect smaller dogs. These problems include hypoglycemia, heart defects, respiratory and digestive problems, seizures, collapsing trachea, and blindness. Genetically, your teacup poodle may be predisposed to dental disease and luxating patellas. To ensure your teacup poodle stays in the best health, you should be taking them to regular vet visits and checking their behavior for any concerning symptoms such as limping, lethargy, or sudden changes in behavior. Teacup poodles are known to live between 12 and 14 years, though your dog may live longer or shorter than this predicated lifespan, depending on any preexisting health issues and their overall daily care. The best way to do this is to perform internet searches of local and national breeders that are reputable, follow proper breeding practices, and care for both the breeding dogs and the puppies humanely. About 2 to 4 puppies Grooming Poodles must be bathed regularly and clipped every six to eight weeks. Clean and check the ears frequently for wax or mites or infection and pull out hairs growing inside the ear canal. The teeth need regular scaling. Since the coat does not shed it needs to be clipped. There are several different types of Poodle clips. The most common for pet owners is an easy-care clip called a "pet clip," "puppy clip" or "lamb clip" where the coat is cut short all over the body. Popular show clips are the English saddle and the Continental clip where the rear half of the body is shaved, bracelets are left around the ankles, and pom-poms are left on the tails and hips. The AKC standard allows for a dog under a year old to be shown in a show style puppy clip which has special requirements such as a pom-pom on the end of the tail. Other clip styles are the modified continental clip, town and country clip, kennel or utility clip, summer clip, and the Miami of bikini clip. Poodles shed little to no hair and are good for allergy sufferers. Origin The Poodle has been known throughout Western Europe for at least years and is depicted in 15th century paintings and in bas-reliefs from the 1st century. France has taken a claim on the origin, but the AKC gives the honor to Germany, where they say it was used as a water retrieval dog. Other claims have been Denmark or the ancient Piedmont. What is certain is that the dog was a descendant of the now-extinct French Water Dog, the Barbet and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. The name "Poodle" most likely came out of the German word "Pudel," which means "one who plays in water. They would leave hair on the leg joints to protect them from extreme cold and sharp reeds. The hunters in Germany and France used the Poodle as a gundog and as a retriever of waterfowl and to sniff out truffles laying underground in the woods. The French started using the breed as a circus performer because of the dog's high intelligence and trainability. The breed became very popular in France, which led to the common name "French Poodle," but the French people actually called the breed the "Caniche," meaning "duck dog. In the 18th century smaller poodles became popular with royal people. The three official sizes are the Toy, Miniature and Standard Poodle. They are considered one breed and are judged by the same written standard but with different size requirements. Some of the Poodle's talents include: retrieving, agility, watchdog, competitive obedience and performing tricks. Maxidoodle the white Teacup Poodle at 7 years old, weighing 5 pounds 2. Until he was 3, he rode around the house in the pocket of my robe, and now at age 7 and 5lbs he continues to stand on my upturned left hand with his rear in the crook of my arm. I love to kayak the many springs in Florida and Max loves paddling too, riding just behind me on a pad I affix to the top of my kayak, even accompanied me on 4 day river sandbar camping paddle. Max also loves to boss around Tout d'Suite, my 20 black cat, and eat all his cat food. I keep him groomed in the continental cut and he prances like a little prince, on or off the leash. He's very polite and doesn't beg or steal people's food. Max loves to engage me or Tout d'Suite in a lively game of chase. I love my buddy! Penny is 2 years old and weighs 5 pounds 2. She is about 8 inches tall at her shoulder. She is a very happy little dog. Penny is a very healthy girl and enjoys her trips to the vet!! Penny is so good, she always lets me trim her hair and toenails! I think she is a very lucky little dog; she gets lots of love, but also lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Penny is healthy because she is only allowed to eat her dog food , never any people food. I think this has helped to prevent her from being a picky eater, which can be a problem in small dogs! However, poodles can often be too energetic and unsuitable for smaller apartments. Well, a teacup toy poodle is just what you need. These dogs are smaller poodles and can fit anywhere. These dogs were initially found in Germany and are one of the oldest purebred dogs in the world. The French poodle may be a lot more popular but it is just another subsidiary of the hunting dogs found in Germany. Over the last two decades, poodles have been bred to become smaller dogs to fit into small spaces. The miniature teacup poodle is a companion dog that is a descendant of the purebred dog breed registered in Germany. In fact, the name poodle originated from the German word, 'pudelin. Toy poodles are now prevalent in America and even a few European countries. Other poodle mix dogs are also popular pets today given that poodles are the national dog of France. Teacups are now prevalent after years of selectively bred dogs thrived in various settings. Today they can be found in almost every country after the official breed standards were met. Some poodles are bred to be lap dogs while the others like the teacup dog is a companion dog. The popularity of this breed continues to increase as time passes! What does a Teacup Poodle Look Like? A teacup toy poodle looks just like the standard poodle except it is a lot smaller in size. Dogs that weigh under six pounds and aren't taller than 9 inches are generally considered teacup poodles by breeders. A teacup toy poodle full grown will not be taller than 9 inches either. These dogs have fluffy ears and their body is covered with a hypoallergenic coat. They have deep-set dark eyes and an extended long muzzle. The teacup toy poodle is an adorable breed of dog that is also very easy to take care of. This little dog has an overall squared-out body shape but its legs are just the perfect length for its body. These dogs are also very agile and have no trouble running around and frolicking. Teacup poodle dogs are often compared to teddy bears because of their appearance. Many people like to accessorize their dogs with a poodle clip. Once you adorn your poodle with this clip, you will be surprised to see how much you have elevated their cuteness. Its ancestors belong to a tough breed of animals that had a ton of responsibilities in Germany. This could be the reason why this breed rarely ever has any health issues and problems. These dogs commonly suffer from a few ailments that affect poodles. Apart from this, smaller dogs often have patella luxation, which affects the positioning of their patella in their legs. You must pay special attention to this and look after your dog's health. A little bit of exercise and proper nutrition should help prevent these problems. Your pet's medical costs are not going to be too high either. This breed may look small but it is very tough. Apart from this, many affordable pet health care options are also available today. These dogs do not have many requirements either. They love spending time indoors, and the size of your house does not affect them. You can take them out for walks to keep them engaged but these tiny pets do not need to be exerted physically daily. If you want to keep your teacups happy, make sure you spend time with them and give them affection. Additionally, regular grooming will also help keep your pet healthy and satisfied! Teacup Poodles Grooming The teacup toy poodle is among the smallest breeds of dogs in the world. While the American kennel club has recognized the toy category, there is no natural classification for the teacup toy poodle breed. These dogs can easily be groomed like the poodle too. Their thick and luscious coat makes it very easy to manipulate hairdos and try different hair cuts on them. You can cut their hair in any way you like and make it look attractive. One of the best features of the teacup poodle is that it does not shed. These dogs have thick fur that needs to be brushed so that there are no knots in their coat. Apart from this, the teacup toy poodle does not require much. As long as you comb through their curly fur, clip their nails, and brush their teeth regularly, they are good to go. Training for a Teacup Poodle Unlike the purebred poodle, the teacup toy poodle is not as active and does not venture out on hunts. However, your teacup toy poodle also requires adequate exercise regularly. They might be small in size but they are very energetic and need an outlet too. While you may not need to take your toy breed out on long walks, it is advised that you take them along for short walks during the day. You can take your dog out on short, minute walks for exercise and mental stimulation. Dog training is a very crucial part of being a pet parent. Teacup poodles are extremely intelligent and can be trained as quickly as you would train large dogs. You can conduct training sessions at home for short spans every couple of days. Since these dogs are very small, they can also suffer from separation anxiety. You must train them to socialize and get accustomed to their surroundings efficiently from a young age. What does a Teacup Poodle Eat? Nourishment is an essential part of raising and training a teacup toy poodle. Small dogs may seem like they don't eat much and do not require a variety of different food but this is merely a misconception. It is important to remember that the dietary requirements of a teacup toy poodle are not the same as a bigger dog. This breed only requires about calories a day and you must limit this intake so that your beloved pet does not develop hypoglycemia. Two hundred fifty calories are equal to a single cup of high-quality dry kibble. You can either feed them generic dog food or even prepare special meals containing all the required nutrients. Make sure you monitor their diets so that they remain healthy. Teacup Toy Poodle Lifespan Although toy poodle teacup dog breeds look dainty and delicate, they descended from strong standard-sized ancestors after selective breeding. They have working and gun dog blood running through their veins which explains their reasonably long lifespan. The average lifespan of a teacup toy poodle is anywhere between 12 to 14 years. If you look after them and take care of their needs they are sure to live long and healthy lives with you. The life expectancy of these dogs also varies depending on their lifestyle, diet, and overall surroundings. What is the Temperament of a Teacup Poodle? Teacup poodles are just like their parent dog breeds. These dogs are very lovable and enjoy companionship. They are not very aggressive and enjoy spending time with families. This breed also does not have any trouble getting along with other dogs. Since the teacup poodle fits virtually anywhere, they can live in smaller apartments too. With just a little bit of training, the dog will not have any trouble getting used to being around people and other pets. You do not need to take them out on frequent walks either. All you need to do is spend time with them and play with them indoors to keep them engaged. This is because your dog requires mental stimulation and does not like being left alone for too long. Apart from this, if you have young children at home you might need to get your dog used to them. Teacup poodles do not like being held by small children. However, this trait in animal behavior can be fixed with regular socializing. Fun Facts about Teacup Toy Poodles Teacup toy poodles are among some of the most adorable dog breeds globally. Here are a few fun facts about the teacup toy poodle to enlighten you! The teacup toy poodle weighs anywhere between 2 to 6 pounds and does not grow any taller than nine inches. The teacup poodle litter is tiny and only consists of 2 to 3 puppies. There is no distinction between toy and teacup poodles in the dog registry of America. They have floppy furry ears and come in a variety of solid colors like gray, white, apricot, blue, black, brown, silver, red, and beige. Teacup poodles can also be found in a mixed color coat too. They are easy to take care of and do not require any special care. They will prove to be your best friend if you spend enough time with them and play with them. Are Teacup Poodles Hypoallergenic? One of the best parts of having a teacup toy poodle is that these dogs are hypoallergenic. If you are someone who cannot stand dog hair and begin to break out or sneeze or have bad reactions, this is the breed for you. They have no trouble spending time indoors and do not shed. Their stunning curly fur does not require any special care apart from regular brushing. Their fur is entirely hypoallergenic, making them the perfect dog for people with allergies. Further, the non-shedding trait only helps those with allergies. So, when you ask are toy poodles hypoallergenic, the answer is absolutely not! Do Toy Poodles have Health Problems? Teacup toy poodles resemble their standard-sized ancestors due to their similar genetic composition. Poodles have a few health issues that they are very susceptible to. Teacup poodles are also prone to the same illnesses so it is vital to look after them. Your puppy could grow up to develop progressive retinal atrophy or PRA or even dysplasia. While these ailments are common among other dogs, too, you might want to take special care of your poodle. PRA could result in blindness over time so make sure your dog gets the proper nutrition and supplements from a young age. Similarly, dysplasia could result in joint pains and other body aches in your miniature poodles too. Apart from this, you should also look after their eating habits. Poodles are prone to developing hypoglycemia or low blood sugar level which could be fatal. So, keep them well-fed and clean to avoid ear infections and other minuscule problems! Do Teacup Poodles Bark a Lot? Barking completely depends on how well you train your dog and how socially accustomed it is. Teacups are very elegant dogs that do not bark unnecessarily and remain calm. However, this is only possible when they are appropriately trained. They are a little snobbish and spoilt in their demeanor. They will not bark at anyone unless they see someone new or feel threatened. Make sure you teach your puppy how to behave around people and instill mannerisms from an early age. They are very unlikely to bark all day unless they are in discomfort and do not feel very good. If your teacup toy poodle is barking too much then you must investigate the issue and see if there are any underlying causes for it. To Sum Up A teacup toy poodle is one of the best dogs for you if you like tiny adorable puppies. This breed does not grow too much and remains small enough to fit inside a teacup, hence the name. They come with many benefits and a love-filled demeanor. These dogs are easy to maintain, live long lives, and get used to new surroundings easily. So, even if you have not had a dog before you can look after a teacup toy poodle very quickly.

What should I feed Wilmington Cockapoo puppies for sale? Your Cockapoo should be fed a balanced, nutrient-rich diet that is tailored to their specific needs. Look for a commercial dog food that is formulated for small breeds, like a Cockapoo. Make sure the food you choose is made from high-quality ingredients and is fortified with vitamins and minerals. Additionally, you can supplement their meals with occasional treats of lean meats, fruits, and vegetables. What are some essentials I should buy before getting Cockapoo puppies in Wilmington? Before you take home your Cockapoo, it's essential to have the basics on hand. First, you'll need food and water bowls that are intended for dogs. Be sure to get stainless steel bowls as opposed to ceramic or plastic; stainless steel bowls will better protect against bacteria buildup. How many minutes per day should I walk Cockapoo puppies near Wilmington? It is recommended that Cockapoos get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day to stay healthy and happy. Walking your Cockapoo for 30 minutes is an efficient way to meet this need breaking it up into two minute walks or three minute walks works as well. Each walk should include mental and physical stimulation, like walking different routes in different areas and playing fetch to encourage your pup to explore its surroundings and build up stamina. The History of the Rottweiler Golden Retriever Mix Like most relatively new hybrids in the canine world, this dog has an unknown origin. Some say they were probably created during the s when purebred crosses were made to produce healthier dogs. Another good thing that happened when designer dogs started showing up is having mixed breeds that are little to no hair, smaller, and softer. But what do you think of this doggie? Parent Breed: Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers originated in Scotland in the midth century, where they were used as hunting dogs to retrieve waterfowl. They are the third most well-known breed in the United States and rank fourth in the world-renowned canine psychology book "The Intelligence of Dogs. There are also two categories for Goldens — one bred for the show ring, and the other are field dogs. According to breed standards, the average size of a Golden Retriever is .Parent Breed: Rottweiler Rottweilers take their name from the German town of Rottweil, where they were originally bred to herd cattle for butchers. According to their breed standard, they are considered medium to large dogs and have a much different temperament than Golden Retrievers. Rotties are obedient, confident, intelligent, and protective dogs. Due to their watchdog instincts, many consider them to be aggressive. However, a study showed Rottweilers to be average regarding aggression, but it also indicated that the breed showed above-average aggression towards strangers. As with most pets, aggressive behavior stems from an irresponsible owner. Things like neglect, abuse, and lack of socialization will inevitably lead to aggression — regardless of breed. But don't be fooled by their robust and rugged appearance. They love their humans and have even been known to act clownishly around them. Although Rottweilers are still bred to herd livestock, they also have an important place in today's society - police dogs, guard dogs, and search and rescue dogs. Rotties can measure up to 27 inches 69 cm and weigh up to pounds 60 kg. Appearance of the Rottweiler Golden Retriever mix Mixed breeds can have varying looks as they may inherit physical traits from both parents or favor one over the other. However, there are some aspects that we can predict based on the parents. Most of them have the build of the Golden Retriever. If not, they still won't be as muscular as the Rotties. The Rottweiler Golden Retriever mix has delicate facial features — loose, folded ears with small tufts, bright, intelligent eyes that can be amber or brown, and black noses. To complement the athletic body of this doggo is a long feathered tail. How big do Golden Rotties get? Most Golden Rottweiler mixes are large dogs weighing around 70 to 90 pounds 32 to 41 kg and growing to a height of between 24 to 28 inches 61 to 71 cm. But this fido cannot be taller than its parents. This doggo will fit best in a large house. It may also fit in smaller homes with spacious yards, but they are NOT suitable for apartment living. No, they are not hypoallergenic and are considered moderate shedders. Rottweiler Golden Retriever mix has a thick, dense, straight, and soft coat that can be medium or long in length. Coat color is yet another example of the genetic inconsistencies of this mix. You can also find them in solid colors such as black, brown, red or fawn, and brindle, but Golden shades are also possible, such as golden brown. They are bright, athletic, and protective of his master. Golden Rotties are generally good with children and other pets, but you should start obedience training them as early as possible. The good thing is that they will pick up the lessons quickly since they are smart. What can be problematic is that the Rottweiler Golden Retriever cross can be overprotective at times. Pay attention to their guarding nature and distrust of strangers, which can be signs of aggressive tendencies. Another quirk is that they are known to bark, chew, and bite excessively, especially if he doesn't get enough daily exercise. Try a chew toy that dispenses treats to satisfy your fido's teeth and jaw. They are also prone to separation anxiety, so you will need to make sure there is someone home to accompany your pet. The Best Care for Rottweiler Golden Retriever Mix Rottweiler Golden Retriever mix is considered low maintenance dogs, but if your dog has a long coat, expect a decent amount of shedding. You will need to brush your Golden Rottweiler mix times per week, but if your furry friend has long hair, this will need to be done daily. It is best to be prepared with grooming tools such as a slicker brush, ruffler, or pin brush. Golden Rottweilers are odorless, so you should only bathe your pet when necessary. Ear care is also necessary with this water-loving canine. Moisture can get stuck in their ear canals, which can cause infections and irritation, so ensure they're dry after every swim or bath. Please trim your Golden Rottweilers nails every two weeks or when you hear them slamming against the floor. Although this may not seem like a big deal, you would be surprised at the number of dogs that develop health complications due to neglected nails. Exercise: How active is this dog? The Rottweiler Golden Retriever mix inherited energy from its parents, so this crossbreed requires hours of daily exercise. If you like to take long walks or hikes, your Golden Rottweiler mix will be happy to accompany you. Alternatively, a simple fetch game will suffice if you prefer a lighter frame. And since he is one of the most intelligent hybrids, he will also need some mental stimulation. One of the best ways to prevent destructive behaviors from developing is to prevent your pet from becoming bored. Also, offer him a puzzle! The amount of dog food should be based on your pet's age, size, activity level, and health. Most Golden-Rottweiler mixes eat 3 cups of high-quality kibble spread over three meals daily. Mouthing Overprotectiveness Early socialization and consistent training can help with overcoming any negative traits your dog might have. Since both of these breeds are intelligent breeds , your dog is likely to be very smart and bring you years of fun. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are very protective and great with kids. Since Rottweilers are prone to having issues with bloat, you want to give them meals staggered through the day, rather than allowing your dog to eat anything he wants. Otherwise, he might be overeating so he feels full. They need serious exercise. These big dogs need hour-long walks, jogs, or runs per day. You can do it at once or you can do shorter walks. Not only that, but they love agility training with a frisbee or ball. This will help keep him mentally stimulated. This can be things like: Barking Chewing Urinating or defecating inside Another great way that you can give him exercise is to take him to a dog park. This will allow him to socialize with some other dogs and get the exercise he needs. We reviewed the best anti chew sprays — see our top picks here! A lot of people believe that dogs such as Rottweilers need dominance training. This kind of training is best achieved by establishing boundaries and rules. You want to reinforce them using a consistent, firm approach. You can give them a role like carrying a stick, backpack , or ball on your hike or walk. Grooming will help cut down on shedding. Doing this is going to help with removing loose dirt, hair and tangles that might be on his body. Golden Rotties have ears that are folded over, where excess moisture can be trapped easily. This can cause irritations and infections easily. When you dry his ears thoroughly, you can avoid these issues. This will help keep his paws snag-free and healthy. However, with any type of crossbreed, your Golden Rottie Retriever may have issues that are common with Golden Retrievers and Rottweilers. Minor Conditions. Crossbreed dogs are actually healthier and have a longer lifespan than purebred dogs. That's because, according to the Canine Journal, purebred dogs run the risk of carrying genes for illnesses that are common for that specific breed. Mutts, dogs with at least two or more crossbreeds, are the healthiest canines with the longest life expectancy. A file photo of a golden retriever and a rottweiler. A pup that is half golden retriever and half rottweiler has melted hearts online. Getty Images According to a study quoted by the National Library of Medicine, crossbreed dogs live on average 1. With crossbreeds, you will never know what your dog is going to look like until it's fully grown, according to FitBark, but also you won't be able to tell their temperament either, and it's important when adopting a crossbreed to ask for its parents' breed information when possible. The video quickly attracted animal lovers from all over the platform, and it has so far received over 2. One user, Caiti, commented: "It looks like a golden wearing a rottie costume for Halloween. We couldn't verify the details of the case. Read more. Rottweiler mixed with Golden Retriever Rottweiler mixed with the golden retriever Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever is a large-scale gun dog that recovers shot waterfowl during hunting and shooting parties, such as ducks and upland game birds. Golden retrievers enjoy water naturally and are easy to train to simple and advanced levels of obedience. They are a long-coated breed with a thick inner coat that gives them ample outdoor heat and an outer layer that lies flat against their bodies and repels rain. Golden retrievers are ideal for living in suburban or country settings. The breed of purebred dogs is a famous participant in conformation shows. The Golden Retriever is popular as a dog with disability assistance, such as being a blind guide dog and a deaf hearing dog. They are trained as a hunting dog, a tracking dog, and a partner in search and rescue. It is a medium sized, solidly built breed with a dense, water repelling wavy coat. Some regional variations have emerged in the kind as a dog with pedigree breeding origins due to its widespread historical popularity. Hence, the three Golden Retriever subtypes reflect the typical variations in dimensions and coat. The Rottweiler The RottweilerIt is a amazing dog breed, considered to be a large breed here in America. German Rottweilers are top bred dogs just like the Serbian Rottweilers. Rottweilers are used as search and rescue dogs, guard dogs, and police dogs. Rottweilers make great family pets and great guard dogs. Grooming needs are ver simple. Rottweilers all have similar looks but you must know the breed standard to really see the differences. They are medium to large standard size. Golden Rottie The loyal and friendly Golden Rottie is a dedicated and protective family pet that combines the best of two large breed dogs. The downside of having Rottweiler mixed with golden retriever may be that this becomes an issue when, when young, he is not socialized and becomes ultra-sensitive to sudden sounds or new faces—responding aggressively and continuously barking or becoming violent. Your big boy can be welcoming to children, other family pets and dogs when socialized adequately and is a joy to have as a family pet. Features of golden Rotttie Size, height and weight An adult male Rottie can weigh between 95 and pounds and stand between 24 and 27 inches in height. A Rottweiler female can weigh between 80 and pounds and stand between 22 and 25 inches. Golden Rottie crosses such a variety of heights and weights, the best way to predict the weight and height of your adult Golden Rottweiler puppy is to know as much as you can about the length, height, and weight of each parent dog. A diet rich in protein is best with your Golden Rottie being a muscular, highly active pooch. And within an hour of feeding, no workout or intense activity should be expected. This dog is highly vulnerable to common problems later in life, so you must create and maintain an ideal weight by not allowing him to over-eat. To avoid the problems that may arise when an always hungry dog is around people or food, it is essential that while his food is high in protein that satisfies his hunger, it is also low in carbohydrates. Training The parent breeds of the Golden Rottie are both very intelligent. When you combine the ease to please temperament of the Golden with the skill of the Rottie to follow instructions without the need for constant repetition, this pooch learning is a relatively simple process. Today, some believe that dominance training is required for a dog like a Rottie, where the pack-leader is known as the owner versus the dog. This type of training should never be aggressive and can be done by setting rules and boundaries and then using a firm, consistent approach to reinforce them. It can be as easy as having him hold his ball, a stick or a bag on your ride or run. Given its large size, when properly socialized, this dog is kind and loving, getting along well with kids and other animals. He should bark if what he sees as a threat—like new faces or sounds. While this makes him a good protector, it also means that unless his interaction has helped him accept new faces and become relaxed in different situations. He can become a nuisance barker. Golden Retrievers are known to be suffering from anxiety about separation. You may well experience that with this dog, and it may be something you need to look for and work. Stress from being alone, like a lack of exercise or mental stimulation, can result in destructive behaviors. This is because they were crossed in an attempt to limit or eliminate known medical problems. That said, you must understand what your new family member will inherit from the line and the Golden Rottie. Which can include joint issues from both parents, other Golden Retriever tumors and allergies, as well as Rottweiler bloat and aortic stenosis? Life Expectancy The Golden Rottie will need regular exercise. Top-quality food tailored for its age and size, and preventive maintenance checks with your veterinarian to ensure a long, healthy life. As a result, you can expect him to live for 10 to 12 years, which is quite typical of a bigger dog. ACK is solely devoted to the development of pure breed dog breeds. At this time, none of the other, lesser-known registries recognizes this dog as well. Puppies It can be expected that Golden Rotties will have a litter size between 6 and 10 puppies. Litters may be to large to be handled gently from birth. Because these babies come from two smart dog breeds, they are going to be easy to train. Start teaching basic commands from a few months of age. Socialization will be an essential part of raising a well-adjusted dog. The earlier the better, that will get along well with children and other animals, and this process can begin from an early age as well. Exposure to new faces, other animals, sights and sounds that are done slowly and over time. Typically between the ages of 2 and 4 months. It will help the new pup build trust in a controlled environment. Golden Rottie breeders are hard to find. Depending on the quality of the breeder i. The strength and endurance of the parents. When you decide to buy a dog instead of a puppy, it might be a little better for him or her. These dogs are a perfect choice for a family pet. The Golden Rottweilers can be a good watchdog due to its protection. Whenever he perceives danger, he will not hesitate to bark to warn his family. It would be better if at least three times a week you brushed them. They are protective of making Golden Rottweilers a good watchdog. cute puppies labrador black - Breeds The link has been copied! Are you ready for some puppy talk? If you're a fan of the French Bulldogs, you're in for a treat! These adorable little pups are known for their charming personalities and irresistible squishy faces, but just how many of them can one Frenchie mama have? In this article, we'll explore the fascinating world of French Bulldog litters and answer the burning question on every dog lover's mind: how many puppies can a French Bulldog have? Get ready to unleash your curiosity and let's dive in! On average, a French Bulldog can have a litter size of between 2 to 4 puppies. However, it's not uncommon for some Frenchies to have larger litters of up to 5 or 6 puppies, while others may only have a single pup. French Bulldogs are known for being small, compact dogs with a big personality, and when it comes to their litters, they tend to have a smaller number of puppies compared to other breeds. There are several factors that can influence the size of a French Bulldog's litter, including genetics, age, and overall health. For instance, younger Frenchies and those in peak physical condition tend to have larger litters than older or less healthy dogs. It's worth noting that while having a larger litter may seem exciting, it can also come with some challenges. French Bulldogs, like many small breeds, can experience difficulties during labor and delivery, so it's important for breeders and pet owners to work closely with a veterinarian to ensure a safe and healthy birth for both the mother and her puppies. On average, a French Bulldog can have up to 4 litters in their lifetime, with each litter having between 2 to 4 puppies. This means that a Frenchie can have anywhere from 8 to 16 puppies over the course of their breeding years. However, it's important to note that breeding a dog should be done with careful consideration and only under the guidance of a responsible breeder or veterinarian. Overbreeding can be harmful to a French Bulldog's health, and can also contribute to the problem of overpopulation in the dog breeding industry. It's also important to consider the ethical implications of breeding dogs, including the responsibility of finding suitable homes for each puppy and ensuring that they receive proper care throughout their lifetime. Factors That Affect the Litter Size There are several factors that can affect the litter size of a French Bulldog, including: Age: As a general rule, younger female dogs tend to have larger litters than older dogs. This is because their reproductive systems are more efficient when they are in their prime. Health: A French Bulldog's overall health can play a significant role in the size of their litters. Dogs that are in good physical condition are more likely to have larger litters than those who are not. Genetics: The genetics of the dog can also impact litter size. Some dogs may have a genetic predisposition to smaller litters, while others may be more likely to have larger litters. Nutrition: A well-balanced diet is essential for a French Bulldog's health and can also impact litter size. A dog that is malnourished or underweight may have smaller litters or may experience complications during pregnancy. Breeding frequency: French Bulldogs that are bred too frequently may experience smaller litters due to a decline in fertility. It's important to give the female dog enough time to recover and regain their health between breeding cycles. Breeding method: The method used for breeding can also affect the litter size. Artificial insemination may result in smaller litter sizes than natural breeding. Hormone Imbalance Hormone imbalances can also be a factor that affects the litter size of French Bulldogs. Hormones play a critical role in the reproductive system of dogs, and any imbalances can lead to reduced fertility and smaller litter sizes. One hormone that is particularly important in female dogs is progesterone. Progesterone levels rise during the second half of a dog's reproductive cycle, and they play a key role in preparing the uterus for pregnancy. If progesterone levels are too low, the uterus may not be ready to support a litter, resulting in smaller litters or even infertility. Another hormone that can affect litter size is luteinizing hormone LH. LH is responsible for triggering ovulation, and if levels are too low, ovulation may not occur, leading to smaller litters or infertility. In addition to these hormones, imbalances in other hormones such as estrogen, follicle-stimulating hormone FSH , and thyroid hormones can also affect a French Bulldog's reproductive system and ultimately impact litter size. If a hormonal imbalance is suspected, a veterinarian can perform tests to determine the levels of various hormones and recommend appropriate treatments or management strategies to support the dog's reproductive health. Age Female dogs are most fertile between the ages of 2 and 5 years old, and during this time, they are more likely to have larger litters. As dogs age, their fertility decreases, and they may experience smaller litter sizes or infertility. It's important to note that breeding French Bulldogs before they are fully mature can also have negative consequences. Breeding dogs that are too young can result in smaller litter sizes, and it can also put the mother and puppies at greater risk for complications during pregnancy and delivery. On the other hand, breeding dogs that are too old can also increase the risk of complications and smaller litter sizes. Female dogs that are past their prime reproductive years may have a reduced number of eggs, and their uterus may not be as capable of supporting a large litter. In general, the ideal age for breeding French Bulldogs is between 2 and 5 years old, when the dog is in optimal reproductive health. However, it's important to work closely with a veterinarian or responsible breeder to ensure that the dog is physically and emotionally ready for breeding, regardless of their age. Genetics The number of puppies that a Frenchie has in a litter can be influenced by the genetics of both the female and male dogs involved in breeding. In general, large dog breeds tend to have larger litters than smaller breeds, and this can be reflected in the litter size of mixed-breed puppies. However, French Bulldogs are a relatively small breed, and their litter sizes are typically smaller than those of larger breeds. The genetics of the female dog can also play a significant role in litter size. Some French Bulldogs may be more predisposed to having smaller litters due to their genetics. In contrast, other dogs may be more likely to have larger litters. Genetic testing can help breeders to identify dogs with optimal reproductive health and litter size. Health A Frenchie that is in good physical condition is more likely to have larger, healthier litters than a dog that is not. Dogs that are malnourished, underweight, or have an underlying health condition may have reduced fertility, which can lead to smaller litters or infertility. Proper nutrition, exercise, and regular veterinary care can help to ensure that a French Bulldog is in good health and ready for breeding. It's also important to note that French Bulldogs, like all breeds of dogs, can experience reproductive health issues that can impact their litter size. Conditions such as infections, tumors, or abnormalities in the reproductive system can reduce fertility and result in smaller litters. Regular veterinary checkups and reproductive health screenings can help to identify and address these issues early on, improving the chances of a successful breeding. In addition to physical health, a Frenchie's mental and emotional wellbeing can also play a role in their reproductive health. Dogs that are stressed, anxious, or in poor mental health may experience reduced fertility, and this can impact their litter size. It's important to ensure that the dog's environment is safe, comfortable, and conducive to their overall health and wellbeing. The process of breeding for these colors can be complex, and it often involves breeding dogs that carry specific color genes. For instance, a blue merle French Bulldog may carry two copies of the dilute gene, while a lilac Frenchie may carry one copy of the dilute gene and one copy of the chocolate gene. Breeding for exotic colors or even fluffy coats can also involve the use of artificial insemination or the use of stud dogs that are carriers of the desired color genes. However, it's important to note that breeding for these colors can come with some risks. French Bulldogs that are bred specifically for their color may be more prone to health issues, including skin problems and eye disorders. In addition, the popularity of exotic colors like the platinum coloring has led to an increase in the demand for these dogs, which has resulted in some breeders engaging in unethical breeding practices, such as inbreeding or breeding for extreme physical characteristics. These practices can be harmful to the health and welfare of the dogs and can result in a range of health issues. It's important to work with a responsible breeder who prioritizes the health and wellbeing of the dogs above all else. Breeding for extremely small size can increase the risk of a number of health problems in French Bulldogs, including respiratory issues, hip dysplasia, and spinal problems. Additionally, breeding micro French Bulldogs with a focus on appearance rather than health and temperament can lead to a range of serious health problems that can negatively impact both the mother and the puppies. Responsible breeders prioritize the health and well-being of the breed and carefully select breeding pairs based on factors such as health, temperament, and genetic diversity. Breeding French Bulldogs for extremely small size or for specific coat colors can compromise their health and result in a host of problems that can be detrimental to their overall well-being. Female French Bulldogs typically reach sexual maturity between 6 and 12 months of age. However, it's important to note that while a female dog may be physically capable of breeding at this age, it's generally recommended to wait until the dog is at least 2 years old before breeding. Breeding a Frenchie too early can have negative consequences, including a higher risk of complications during pregnancy and delivery. Additionally, dogs that are bred too young may not be emotionally or mentally mature enough to handle the demands of pregnancy and motherhood. French Bulldogs, like many brachycephalic short-nosed breeds, are at increased risk for complications during natural birth due to the shape of their skulls and bodies. The breed's unique anatomy can make natural birth dangerous and potentially life-threatening for both the mother and her puppies. French Bulldogs have a relatively large head and narrow pelvis, which can make it difficult for puppies to pass through the birth canal. This can result in prolonged labor and increased risk of fetal distress, stillbirth, or death of the mother. In addition to the breed's physical anatomy, French Bulldogs can also be prone to certain health issues that can increase the risk of complications during natural birth. For instance, obesity, poor nutrition, and other health issues can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and delivery. For these reasons, many veterinarians and responsible breeders recommend that French Bulldogs give birth via cesarean section C-section. A C-section is a surgical procedure that involves delivering the puppies via incision in the mother's abdomen, and it can greatly reduce the risks associated with natural birth. The First Month of French Bulldog Pregnancy During the first month of French Bulldog pregnancy, the fertilized eggs travel down the Fallopian tubes and implant in the lining of the uterus. At this point, it can be difficult to detect pregnancy as there are no external signs. However, some dogs may exhibit subtle changes in behavior or appetite. It's important to ensure that the dog is getting proper nutrition and exercise during this time, as this will support the health of both the mother and the developing fetuses. It's also a good time to schedule a veterinary checkup to confirm the pregnancy and monitor the dog's health. The Second Month of French Bulldog Pregnancy By the second month of French Bulldog pregnancy, the fetuses have developed significantly and are about the size of walnuts. The dog's abdomen may begin to swell, and she may exhibit signs of morning sickness or fatigue. During this time, it's important to continue to provide the dog with proper nutrition and exercise, and to monitor her health closely. The veterinarian may recommend additional testing, such as an ultrasound, to monitor the health and development of the fetuses. The Third Month of French Bulldog Pregnancy During the third month of French Bulldog pregnancy, the fetuses continue to develop rapidly, and their organs and body systems begin to mature. The dog's abdomen will be noticeably swollen, and she may begin to experience nesting behavior as she prepares for the birth of her puppies. It's crucial to continue to monitor the dog's health and provide her with proper nutrition and exercise during this time. The veterinarian may recommend additional testing or monitoring to ensure the health and wellbeing of the mother and her puppies. Please Breed Your French Bulldog Responsibly Breeding French Bulldogs is a complex and challenging process that requires careful consideration and responsible practices. The health and welfare of the dogs should always be the top priority, and breeders and pet owners should work closely with a veterinarian or experienced breeder to ensure that the breeding process is done safely and ethically. Breeding French Bulldogs can be a rewarding experience, but it's crucial to approach it with caution and responsibility. Overbreeding, breeding for profit or for the sole purpose of producing exotic colors, and engaging in unethical breeding practices can all have negative consequences for the health and wellbeing of the dogs involved. It's important to prioritize the health and wellbeing of the dogs above all else and to ensure that they receive proper nutrition, exercise, and veterinary care throughout their lives. By working with responsible breeders and veterinarians and by following ethical breeding practices, we can help to ensure a healthy and happy future for French Bulldogs and other breeds of dogs. Final Thoughts French Bulldogs are a popular breed of dog that many people are interested in owning. This is due to their popularity and the high demand for these dogs. If you're on a budget, you may want to consider adopting a Frenchton, which is a crossbreed between a French Bulldog and a Boston Terrier. These dogs can be just as cute and playful as purebred Frenchies, but may be more affordable. It's also important to note that French Bulldogs often require c-sections to give birth, as their puppies have large heads and broad shoulders that make natural delivery difficult. This can add to the cost of owning a French Bulldog, as c-sections can be expensive and require careful monitoring and recovery. If you're considering getting a French Bulldog or any other dog breed, it's important to do your research and be prepared for the responsibilities of dog ownership. This includes providing proper care and training for your dog, as well as ensuring that you can afford any medical expenses that may arise. Keep in mind that there are many other dog breeds to choose from, each with their own unique characteristics and needs. Consider researching other breeds that may be a better fit for your lifestyle and budget before making a decision. Get more expert advice on pet-parenting by visiting the Off Leash blog at TryFi. French Bulldogs have difficulty reproducing in large numbers because of their physical conformation. Although organizations like the American Kennel Club and the French Bull Dog Club of America see to it that breed standards are upheld, even the healthiest Frenchies will have trouble breeding naturally and copiously. One of the biggest reproductive concerns in French Bulldogs is their narrow hips. French Bulldogs also have trouble birthing naturally. The large heads that are so often perfectly adorned with Frenchie jewelry make a caesarean section necessary. Additionally, the French Bulldog is among the brachycephalic breeds that have breathing issues simply because of their short muzzles and flat faces. Because of this and the way their bodies are built, pregnancy and birthing can be too stressful on their bodies and could become fatal. The limited number of puppies a Frenchie can produce in her lifetime is one of the biggest reasons why this breed is so expensive. In most cases, the dog will behave like she is pregnant even though there isn't any puppy inside her. Hypothyroidism is a hormonal imbalance problem in dogs that causes weight gain, lethargy, and depression. In extreme cases, it can cause abortion or decreased litter size in females. Age The older your French Bulldog gets, the smaller the litter size. Dogs bred between two and five years have larger litters because they are still young with more active reproductive hormones. By the time the dog is six years old, the litter size decreases significantly as the reproductive hormones become less active. Genetics Genetics play a role in determining your dog's ability to have puppies at any point in its lifetime. If both parents have a small litter size, you'll most likely have fewer puppies from your Frenchie mom. A mother with a bigger and broader family tree will have bigger litters. Therefore, you're more likely to get larger Frenchie pups if the mom comes from a family of bigger French Bulldogs. Health Healthy dogs can carry healthier and larger puppy litters. For example, your Frenchie can have a healthier and bigger litter if she has good nutrition. That's why it's essential to feed the dog with high-quality pet food throughout pregnancy. You may have questions like: When is the right time to breed my Frenchie? What are the steps to take in preparing for this process? What should I expect when giving birth? To make the experience smooth, here are the two crucial steps to follow: Artificial Insemination Apart from the hassles of looking for an appropriate and healthy stud dog, the narrow hips of French Bulldogs make natural mating hard. As a result, most Frenchie parents rely on artificial insemination. You must get a canine veterinarian to draw sperm from the stud dog and insert it into the female's reproductive tract. This process is usually done two to three times for positive results. The veterinarian will also be in charge of monitoring the pregnancy's progress. Therefore, you must keep in touch with your veterinarian to monitor the dog's progress and prepare for labor. French Bulldogs have a gestation period of approximately 63 days. The day your Frenchie goes into labor will be significantly different for each dog. Besides being responsible for the C-section procedure, your vet will guide you on what to expect during this period. Furthermore, they will take you through how to deal with any complications that may arise after delivery. It's worth mentioning that taking your Frenchie mom through natural birthing can expose them to dystocia. Unfortunately, 1. Factors That Limit a French Bulldog's Reproductive Ability Two to four puppies in a litter is a low number compared to other dog breeds. Why do French Bulldogs have such a small litter size? Read on to find out the limiting factors. Physical Conformation The physical nature of French Bulldogs makes it challenging for them to reproduce in large numbers. French Bulldogs have narrow hips. Although these hips make the dog beautiful, they hinder natural mating. This explains why these dogs are bred through artificial insemination. It's also hard for French Bulldogs to birth naturally due to their large heads. Consequently, most French Bulldogs undergo cesarean section C-section procedures. Due to their large heads, whelping your Frenchie mom naturally is a risky affair that can lead to: The pups getting stuck in the birth canal The mother suffering from complications such as hemorrhage or uterine rupture Injuring the pups Therefore, although costly and risky, C-section is the most humane option for helping your Frenchie canine give birth. Brachycephalic Breed Frenchies are among the brachycephalic dog breeds. Brachycephalic dog breeds have short nostrils and flattened muzzles with longer bottom jaws than the top ones. Due to their squished face, these dogs have difficulty breathing and cooling. This makes them prone to overheating. Moreover, the squished face exposes most of these dogs to Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome BOAS. This syndrome makes breathing a struggle, leading to challenges in carrying pregnancies and giving birth. Prenatal Care for a French Bulldog Your Frenchie's prenatal care should start as soon as she is pregnant. Here are some key areas to focus on: Diet Your dog needs a high-quality diet to support her pregnancy. A healthy, natural diet will strengthen the dog's body, allowing it to accommodate the mom and pups. Pregnant dogs need the following nutrients : Calcium: 1 to 1. Dogs of this nature tend to be smaller, and also have smaller amounts of puppies. And with French bulldog dams the females they have very narrow hips and small body. If a female Frenchie does have a large litter of over 3, there can be health implications for the puppies. They will probably be underweight, with the weaker ones in the litter struggling to get the milk they need during the first few weeks of being born. How many times a year can a French bulldog have puppies? How many litters can a French bulldog have in a year? They should not have any more than 1 litter a year, and most preferably every other year. Because they are delivered via C-section, the female needs time to recover and recuperate, so anything intensive is just cruel and designed to make money. For more information on Frenchie C-sections, click here. How many litters can a French bulldog have? Most female Frenchies have around 4 litters in total, although I have heard of irresponsible breeders who try to get more from them. This litter size of 4 puppies is quite normal, with the average amount of puppies being 3. If you are thinking about buying a French bulldog puppy, talk to the breeder and find out how many litters she has had. How long is a French bulldog pregnancy? Frenchies very rarely give birth naturally, with most puppies being delivered by C-section. A French bulldog pregnancy the gestation period i. She will typically deliver by Caesarean section and will have on average around 3 puppies in her litter. Frenchie breeders will often use artificial insemination to get their females pregnant, as this breed find it very hard to mate naturally due to their narrow hips. You can read more about how long a Frenchie is pregnant for elsewhere on the website. When people say a dog is in heat, what they actually mean is that they are in their oestrus cycle. It is very similar to when a human female gets a period. When a Frenchie dam is on her oestrus cycle it means she has gone into heat and will accept a mate and could end up getting pregnant. French bulldogs go into heat from the point they reach sexual maturity. The regularity of their oestrus cycles tends to be every 6 months on average but will vary from dog to dog. It can take up to 2 years for a French bulldog to develop regular heat patterns. Female French bulldogs can gain sexual maturity as young as 5 months old. At that point, if they have started to have regular oestrus cycles, they are at risk of getting pregnant. Do French bulldogs always need C-sections? If your French bulldog does have puppies naturally, it can be very dangerous for both the female and the litter. Handy Hint: French Bulldogs mating naturally is a very rare occurrence. It can lead to health risks too. Find out more about why Frenchies should not breed naturally in this new blog post. The last word French bulldogs make for great companions and pets. If you browse other guides on the website, you will see plenty of photos and videos of Claude, our own Frenchie. However, in recent years their popularity has exploded, and this has led to an increase in unscrupulous breeders who use irresponsible methods of breeding. This can result in poor health — read the various health problems that Frenchies are prone to. If you are thinking about buying a Frenchie, please do your research into the breeder before you even consider buying from them. Unlike people though, an expectant dog mum-to-be has her work cut out for her, as she rarely, if ever, gives birth to a single puppy. The number of puppies that a bitch has is dependent on several factors, namely size the bigger the breed of dog, the more puppies they tend to have in a single litter and the physical characteristics of a breed. There are, however, no absolutes in nature, which means that the number of puppies that a French Bulldog has per litter can vary. The breed has a higher than average possibility of developing a condition called dystocia, which is similar to a breech birth in humans, but far more dangerous. French Bulldogs are up to twenty percent more likely to suffer from dystocia during pregnancy, which is one of the main reasons why your veterinarian will suggest that you opt for a C-section for your Frenchie. Giving birth is just as hard for a dog as it is for a human, and during and after the birth, your Frenchie will need to breathe harder and faster in order to ensure that her body has the oxygen it needs to make it through and recover from the trauma of having a litter of pups. For a brachycephalic dog like the Frenchie, this is much harder than it is for a normal dog and puts the mother at a much greater risk of cardiac arrest, which again is why most veterinarians will suggest that the safest option for any Frenchie mother is always a C-Section. The procedure also carries a risk to the puppies and can put their lives in danger as well, so the fewer C-sections that your dog has to endure, the more likely she, and her puppies, are to emerge from one unscathed. Which most Frenchies are. Always insist on seeing the paperwork, and the mother dog before you agree to buy a puppy. Before we begin, a word of caution. Most Frenchies tend to reach maturity between eighteen months and two years of age, which is why most breeders tend to let their dogs mate between the ages of two and seven. The typical gestation period the length of a pregnancy for a French Bulldog is between sixty and sixty-three days, and the dog can enter labor at any point during that time. In the first month of her pregnancy, you might notice that your Frenchie starts to become even more affectionate than she already is and that her appetite has increased. Her appetite might start to wane toward the end of the second month, as her body starts to prepare to give birth. Post navigation. Ultrasound Widely used in all sorts of animals including humans , an ultrasound is the fastest way for a vet to get a clear idea of how many puppies mama has in utero. This can be done as early as 3 weeks into the pregnancy itself. This is often the first look into how many puppies they can sell for breeders. X-Ray For a clearer picture, an x-ray can also be used to get a set idea of how many pups are in her womb. Since a mom could abort or have a miscarriage of one puppy early in her pregnancy, this x-ray also confirms that she still has the number she had at the 3-week mark. Whichever method is used for viewing and counting the puppies, remember that these are estimates. As well, not all French Bulldog puppies make it through the first shaky few days, even with the most advanced medical help available. Nothing is certain certain when it comes to the size of a French Bulldog litter, just as nothing is certain when it comes to human pregnancies. How to predict a French Bulldog litter size When picking the right mama to impregnate, breeders often look at a few traits to estimate and determine the size of the litter. Size The size of the mama-to-be will be a huge factor in her pregnancy. Health The health of both French Bulldog parents is also an important factor. Nutrition Much the same as health, nutrition will also be a key role. French Bulldogs need a very specific diet, especially when they are pregnant. However, those genes will also determine the size of the litter and the overall litter health. This is why proper paperwork can go a long way to helping determine the size of the litter as well as genetic factors for Frenchie puppy litters. Small litters of Frenchie puppies While the average litter of puppies is 3, some litters can be smaller with only 1 or 2 puppies. This is not a red flag or cause for concern, though it could be happening due to a few factors. The first cause could be as simple as her age. If a French Bulldog is under the age of 2, she is still thought to be too young to have successful pregnancies. Since pregnancy is very hard on even the strongest Frenchie mom, a young one can have smaller litters with plenty of complications that put puppies at risk. Once they are over the age of two, they reach full maturity and can produce full litters. Generally speaking, Frenchie breeds are very closely monitored. They are also high-risk dogs regarding health complications, particularly during pregnancies. Litters between puppies will always end up with better health and longevity than those litters that are above average. Large litters of Frenchie puppies Just like pregnancies can be below the average of 3 or 4 puppies, they can also be above the average with 5 or even 6 puppies. Large litters often happen as a result of an unethical breeder more on that in a moment and should make you raise a red flag when searching. Large litters bring with them quite a few concerns in health and safety all around. Puppies who are in larger litters will quite often be at-risk before and immediately after birth for malnourishment. There is only so much energy that a mom can give to her puppies during gestation and through milk after birth. The more puppies she has, the more they will require from her, which can lead to malnourished, underweight puppies. Having a large litter can also put more strain and stress on the mother, often giving her health problems and difficulties in her future pregnancies. The truth of the matter is that large litters offer the best financial payout. After all, 5 puppies pay better than 3, right? However, this larger litter also puts more strain on the mom and more likely creates puppies that will be saddled with health problems down the road. A large litter, outside of the flukes and medical miracles, is a sign of an irresponsible breeder. Similarly, Frenchie moms should be at least 2 years of age and average about 3 or 4 pregnancies throughout her life. If you are searching for Frenchie moms and find a series of potential mothers that have 5 or 6 puppies. Responsible breeders will only promise or support 3 or 4 puppies per litter and will happily explain why. This would be a sure sign of a puppy mill. A puppy mill is quite literally a factory set-up for puppies. Various French Bulldog mothers simply pump out litter after litter, and their puppies are sold at high prices by breeders whose only focus is money. These dogs are quite often traumatized and abused, amongst other immoral practices. Use litter size to determine the right breeders Any breeder that is in it for the right reasons will be aware of the size of Frenchie litters and their limits. While it seems so simple when it comes to the number of puppies in the litter, that very number can tell you a whole lot about a breeder and their practices. Use that to help you find the right one. Not only will it feel better than unknowingly supporting a puppy mill, but it will also end up giving you a much healthier, stronger, and better puppy!

How to Find A Responsible Boxer Breeder in Kentucky Finding a responsible boxer breeder in Kentucky can be very rewarding, but it can also be difficult, time-consuming and stressful. There are many things to consider when looking for a reputable breeder. The first thing that you should do is research. Search online for reviews to see if the person or business has had any issues with previous customers or breeders. If they have, contact these people and ask them about their experience. The more positive reviews you find, the better the chances of finding a good breeder. Also, check out local message boards and Facebook groups — there might be something posted where other people in your area talk about their experiences with different breeders or share information about their favorite breeders to help give insight on who could be a good option for you. If the breeder has a website, look at their site to get a feel for what kind of person they are and how much information they share with their customers. Their website should have pages about their facilities, photos of the dogs and puppies, health guarantees offered on their pups, and more. Remember that it is important to find an ethical and responsible breeder who cares about the dogs and that will guarantee their health. Stay away from calling and asking about prices and availability on the phone. The breeder should want to meet with you and talk about their puppies before giving any kind of price quotes or discussing what is included with the cost of one of their pups. Visit your chosen boxer breeder in person at their location. Talk to the people who work there and ask questions about the dogs and even about themselves You can tell a lot just by talking to people and asking questions, so use this opportunity to learn as much as you can about the breeder. Visiting your potential breeder will also give you a chance to see their facilities and to meet the parents of any puppy that you may take home with you. Look around carefully and ask questions about the animals and what is required of future owners. The breeder should be knowledgeable about the breed, health-conscious, and willing to answer your questions. This includes emailing back and forth or even using video chat so that you can see where the puppies are kept and how other people who have bought from this breeder interacted with them. Price should not be your first priority when looking for boxer breeders in Kentucky. A responsible boxer breeder in Kentucky should be able to give you the names and phone numbers of people who have purchased puppies from them. The best breeders are usually focused on making sure that their pups go home with loving families, so they want to make sure that anyone who buys one of their dogs is responsible. When you do call these people up, ask about the process of buying their pup. If they had any issues or concerns with the breeder, this should be brought up during your conversation. If you follow these steps, you should have no problem finding the right person or place to buy your new puppy from. Meeting past customers will give you a chance to talk to people who have already bought their boxer from this breeder. Talk to them about the process of buying their puppy, and ask if they had any concerns or issues with the breeder in question. There are many Boxer breeders in Kentucky that care about their animals and will only sell their pups to ethical homes. Do your research before you visit anyone, make sure you visit the location of the puppies if possible or speak over video chat , and make sure that all references are checked before agreeing on a purchase or payment. You should ask your breeder the name of the veterinarian they use. You may call and ask for a reference from that vet if needed. A board-certified veterinary surgeon or specialist is a good choice for a dog with orthopedic problems. Hip dysplasia is common in dogs and often requires surgery. It may seem like an off-the-wall question at first because you are just looking for a Boxer Puppy but remember that this dog will be part of your family for many years to come so it is important that he is healthy. The cost of having your Boxer examined by a Veterinarian should not influence your decision on where to buy your puppy from. Although you are excited to welcome your new family member into your home, spending a few hours preparing will ensure that both you and your pup have a safe and comfortable environment in which to play. If you already have a crate at home that you use for traveling or other purposes, this would be an ideal time to introduce him to his new box. While in the cage, give him some toys and treats so he will get accustomed to spending time inside until he gets older. It will also give him a place to call his own and create a den-like environment inside the crate. Try acquiring different types of toys like fuzzy stuffed animals or rubber balls that he can easily pick up in his mouth. Of course, make sure not to leave any type of chew toy unsupervised because accidents can occur if they are eaten by mistake. Since puppies often like to sink their teeth into something during playtime.
