Conclusion Boxer Origin The boxer has a distinctive short muzzle and a broadhead. It originated from Germany bred for dogfights and herding. Boxers have strong bite and iron jaws that bite hard without letting go. This is a strong dog that needs plenty of exercise and some reinforcement of the rules while still young. It requires little grooming, at least 15 to 20 minutes of daily exercise, and a yard to run around. The Rottweiler This breed has been well known for many years, in Roman before it moved to Germany! It was reared for herding, guarding money, and pulling meat carts. They were loved for their intelligence and skills. This breed gained popularity back in the olden days to date. When herding and cart pulling faded out of the market, these dogs were still kept for their loyalty in guarding people. Today, they are commonly used by the police and the army due to their discipline and intelligence. It ranks number 8 in the AKC ranking, which is admirable. The Boxer mixed with Rottweiler — Appearance The Boxweiler is a large dog weighing about 80 to pounds with a height of about 21 to 27 inches to the shoulder. The Rottie boxer mix puppies are gentle but cute dogs that love being around family members both indoors and outdoors. They are very active dogs with sturdy and robust bodies requiring plenty of space to run around. Each puppy looks different depending on what trait each puppy borrows from the parent. Even in a single litter, the puppies can look very different, each inheriting another aspect from each dog. They are moderately dependent and do not mind being left alone for a little while. However, when let alone for long, they develop separation anxiety. Boxweilers are an excellent company with other dogs as long as they have been socialized from a young age. They are great with kids, but they must have been trained and socialized early enough. If not, they can hurt children and other animals. Grooming care Boxweilers are moderate shedders and can be brushed 2 to 3 times each week. So start as soon as you get home by teaching him or her the rules of the house by using positive reinforcement only. The best commands you can train your puppy on are to sit, stay, come, and lay down. When you are training, it is important to never give up on a command that you give! The moment you start allowing your puppy to not obey your commands is the day you give him the right to be the pack leader. The Rottweiler and Boxer are notorious for being hard-headed, and stubborn! So if you are having trouble training your commands into your puppy just know that it is not how your training your puppy but rather. It is just in their genetics to try and not follow your commands. So when training be firm but never heavy-handed. The best training methods are firm but gentle and never give in on command. Take your puppy out into the city whenever you are out. Let your puppy experience the sounds, smells and sights, this is getting your puppy used to the strange sound smells and sights. He also should be meeting different people and animals, on his daily walks. This gets him to understand that he needs to learn the proper temperament and manners in greeting other animals and more importantly humans. Lifespan Sociability The Boxweiler is a very active, high-energy dog whose intelligence allows for relatively easy training as long as it is done with consistency and patience. They enjoy a good cuddle as much as running after a ball and playing fetch. They are healthy dogs overall but having an understanding of some of the conditions that the parent breeds are susceptible to, will help you understand your dog as it ages. While they are not aggressive dogs, they are wary of strangers and other animals, so proper socialization as puppies is essential. The Boxweiler tends to gain weight and needs plenty of exercise. The Boxweiler will only drool depending on which parent it takes after. The Rottweiler tends to drool, whereas the Boxer does not. The Boxweiler may prefer to be the only pet in the household. If the Boxweiler is properly socialized as a puppy with other pets, they will accommodate and adapt well with other animals. However, the Boxweiler is a herding dog and will instinctively chase other animals, and therefore the household might benefit from keeping the Boxweiler as the only pet. If they are kept busy and not left alone for long periods, the Boxweiler will grow into a happy and well-adjusted dog that will make an excellent family pet. However, the Boxweiler would do best with older children that know how to play gently with this large dog. Children should be taught how to approach dogs in a gentle and non-threatening manner so the dog will feel comfortable and become an eager and energetic companion. The Boxweiler more than likely will have the same instincts and therefore, will do best in a home as the only pet. However, if properly socialized as a puppy, they could adapt to living with other pets, including cats. They might have a predisposition to gain weight, so following a strict schedule and not leaving food out throughout the day would work best. Coming from the Rottweiler and the Boxer, which are both working dogs, the Boxweiler needs to be kept busy with walks and play. Allowing these large dogs room to run in a yard makes them less suitable for apartments. Training should be accomplished with persistence and firmness tempered with praise and positive reinforcement. Consistent training and lots of socialization, while they are puppies, is critical. Trimming nails carefully, cleaning ears , and brushing teeth are all common grooming habits every dog needs to keep them healthy. Brushing their teeth regularly to avoid dental issues combined with frequent grooming will also help your dog to maintain its health. Minor Conditions Rottweilers might experience hypothyroidism , lower eyelid droop , cataracts and allergies. While Boxers are also susceptible to hypothyroidism, they are also prone to bowel disease and corneal erosion. Serious Conditions The Rottweiler is prone to hip dysplasia , bone cancer , heart disease and bloat or stomach dilatation. The Boxer might also experience hip dysplasia, heart disease, as well as bloat or stomach dilation like the Rottweiler, but are also susceptible to irregular heartbeat and occasional problems with spinal cord disease and brain tumors. The Boxweiler has the potential to inherit some of these health issues from its parents. Therefore, the vet will check for joint dysplasia, heart disease, bone cancer, and bloat. Male vs Female Most dog breeds have minor physical differences between male and female puppies. Like most species, the females tend to be a little lighter and smaller than the males. It is thought that females tend to be less aggressive and more affectionate than the males, but this subject is up for debate. The choice of using your dog for breeding purposes will make a difference as well between the male and the female. Most dogs become calmer and less aggressive or less energetic after surgery. The primary differences between all dogs, regardless of the sex, are based on how the puppies have been raised and socialized. Final Thoughts on the Boxweiler The Boxweiler is a beautiful, loyal, intelligent, and energetic hybrid of the Rottweiler and Boxer. A firm but kind and gentle hand is the best way to handle these large and sensitive dogs. Properly socializing them to smaller animals and children, while they are puppies, will give them the best possible outcome. Online discussions through social media or attending dog shows and contacting local and national dog clubs could provide you with further assistance. Rottweiler Boxer mix puppies What is a Boxweiler? The Boxweiler is a mixed breed dog with one Rottweiler parent and one Boxer dog parent. They are usually bred as pet dogs, but also have a rich working history on both sides of the family. It is thought to have descended from the Drover dogs of ancient Rome. Here they are thought to have mixed with local breeds such as the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Appenzeller. It was added to the American Kennel Club registry in .The Rottweiler is a working dog, used throughout history for bear hunting, police work, cattle herding, and even to pull carriages for passengers. It is descended from the Tibetan line of Mastiff which in turn was a descendent of the Molossus. A full grown Boxweiler will typically weigh between 60 and 80 pounds — although reaching up to lbs is not unheard of. They are typically happy, healthy pups with an average lifespan of 8 to 13 years. As for physical appearance, the breed can take on characteristics of either parent. So, it can end up looking like either parent breed. The one, mostly uniform characteristic is a large, square head. The Rottweiler has a stocky, muscular body, while the Boxer has a lean, muscular build. A Boxweiler could take on either of these body types, or somewhere in between. Their colorings vary, but are almost always a shade of brown. Mixed brown and black spots are also possible. And they will sometimes have a white splotch on their chest or belly. Boxer Rottweiler Mix Grooming Boxweilers are moderate shedders and should be brushed about times per week. Although they are short haired, they can still shed quite a bit all year round. This breed requires moderate grooming in order to keep its rough coat in good shape. Full of energy, these pups are highly intelligent and loyal. They are typically friendly, but can get quite protective and will keep a close eye on strangers. Boxweilers are working dogs, so they tend to enjoy having some sort of role to fill. Rottweiler Boxer mix dogs are loving and affectionate, and enjoy human interaction. They are moderately dependent — meaning that they can be left alone, but they are prone to separation anxiety if left on their own for long periods of time. Boxweilers are usually good with other dogs, although early socialization is key. They are very good with children, so long as they are socialized properly. Boxweilers need to be walked at least twice per day. And ideally should have a fenced yard to run around in. They enjoy playing with other dogs, so long as they are properly socialized and not aggressive. A Boxweiler puppy can take on any of the attributes — positive or negative — of either parent. Boxers are more prone to heart conditions, cancers, hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, and degenerative myelopathy. Rottweilers are more prone to eye problems like cataracts, heart problems, gastroenteritis, hypothyroidism, and other conditions. Since both breeds have a tendency for heart problems, this should be one of the primary concerns for new Boxweiler parents. Several heart conditions are possible, but the most serious is probably Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. A condition that can be fatal. Weight gain is another common issue with this breed. Rottweiler Boxer mix dogs can put on weight quickly. If not exercised enough or if overfed, they can become overweight. Canine obesity can also increase the risk of other health problems, particularly relating to the heart. Some other potential health issues. These include joint dysplasia, hip dysplasia , allergies, mange, pano, cancer, heart defects, bloat, eye problems, and deafness. Are mixed breeds healthier? Some claim that pedigree, purebred breeds are superior due to their consistency and predictability. On the other side of the aisle, many breeders and fans of the crossbreed claim that there are significant benefits to designer dogs. There are some legitimate potential health issues with purebred dogs. These are often caused by years of inbreeding — which can sometimes be reduced through cross breeding. Cross breeding advocates claim that there can be some benefits to genetic diversity in dog breeds. Ultimately, it all comes down to the breeding process, the knowledge of the breeder, and the genetics of the parents. Certain cross breeds are prone to specific behavioral and health issues, but the same could be said for certain purebred dogs. The biggest consideration is the energy level of these dogs. Boxweilers need regular exercise, at least twice per day. They also should have plenty of space to move around, so a small apartment is likely not suitable for this breed. Beyond that, consider the fact that Boxweilers are prone to separation anxiety. If you work long hours and will need to leave your dog alone all day, this breed is probably not going to be the best choice. Overall, the Boxweiler is a friendly and social breed. Boxweilers are protective without being overly aggressive. They can make very good guard dogs and will not hesitate to protect your family should the need arise. Prospective Boxweiler parents should weigh the pros and cons of the breed — including potential health problems — before making their decision. An experienced breeder will know the proper techniques for breeding healthy, happy dogs. They will likely test the parents for potential health problems, which helps to reduce the risk of health concerns in the puppies. When you locate a breeder, ask to see any health certificates or test results that they have for the parents. It could have been treated poorly or abused, which could translate to aggression or unwanted behavior. With that said, every dog deserves a good home. If you are willing to adopt and accept the risks, we encourage it. References and Further Reading Malm et al. The Boxer Rottweiler mix has a temperament that is a combination of both its parents. Protective and loyal, they have an alert nature that makes them wonderful watchdogs. These pups respond best to positive reinforcement techniques such as clicker training or reward-based teaching methods. With consistent commands, boundaries, and rules set out by their owner, these energetic pooches will bring lots of fun into your home. Training should start as soon as possible to ensure good habits develop while still young; this will help prevent any unwanted behaviors from appearing later on in life. As we move on to discussing aggression levels in this crossbreed, remember how important it is to show patience when training your pup. Boxer Rottweiler — Aggression Levels When it comes to Boxer Rottweiler mixes, their aggression levels can vary greatly. It is important for owners of this breed to understand the potential risks associated with a dog that has been bred from two aggressive breeds. Although they may not be as naturally aggressive as either parent breed, there is still the possibility of them taking after one or both parents in terms of temperament and personality. With proper training and mental exercise, however, these tendencies can be managed. This includes engaging activities such as fetching games, agility courses, and interactive toys which will help keep them mentally stimulated while also helping build a strong bond between owner and pet. With patience and dedication on behalf of the owner, these furry friends can become loving members of your family despite their potentially aggressive natures. Through ongoing reinforcement and reward-based learning techniques, owners can foster an environment where even the most difficult behaviors can be addressed in an effective manner. From here we turn our attention toward another aspect of Boxer Rottweiler mixes — appearance and features. The Boxer Rottweiler mix is a medium-sized dog with an average height of 20 to 24 inches and a weight of between 50 and 90 lbs. Its coat can range from short and smooth to longer, denser fur depending on which parent breed provides more of its genetic makeup. Its dense coat will protect it from cold temperatures so even during winter months it enjoys outdoor activities. This pup needs daily physical activity and mental stimulation to keep them healthy and happy. Going for regular walks around the neighborhood is a great way to start exercising your pup. Taking part in agility classes or teaching new tricks are some easy ways to give your furry friend the mental stimulation they need while having fun at the same time! The Boxer Rottweiler mix is an intelligent breed, and it requires mental stimulation throughout the day. This could mean playing games like hide-and-seek or fetch with your pup. You can also try teaching new tricks or commands using positive reinforcement techniques such as treats and praise. This breed loves spending time with its owners and wants to please them at all costs. Socialization is just as important since this will help your pup learn how to interact with other people and animals without becoming overly aggressive or fearful. With proper guidance from you, these pups can grow into loving companions who bring joy and laughter into your home. To ensure success during training sessions, always stay patient and consistent while implementing rewards for good behavior. Your pup may take some time before truly understanding what you expect from them, but eventually, they will comprehend the rules of your household better if taught properly right away. Moving forward, socializing and providing ample amounts of mental stimulation will further strengthen the bond between you and your Boxer Rottweiler mix companion! Training And Socialization With the right mental stimulation, training, and socialization are just as important for a Boxer-Rottweiler mix. An active owner who is willing to give their pup plenty of exercise and companionship will be essential in helping them develop healthy habits. If done correctly, this breed can learn basic commands very quickly; however, patience is required when teaching advanced behaviors like agility or tracking. Being bred from two highly active breeds means that good physical outlets must be found to keep your Boxer-Rottie mix happy and healthy. Taking long walks, hikes or even swimming can help fulfill their natural desire to explore new areas while getting enough exercise at the same time. Additionally, engaging games such as fetch or tug-of-war provide quality bonding time while stimulating their minds. With consistent training and socialization plus lots of love and attention, these pooches have the potential to become excellent family pets! It may be argued that mixed breeds are not as intelligent as purebred canines, but this is simply not true. In addition to being bright and capable, these pups also benefit from having two distinct genetic pools which serve to amplify their natural traits — allowing for more diverse behaviors than would otherwise be possible in one breed alone. This means that your pet will likely develop into an individual with unique abilities, quirks, and preferences! These dogs are fiercely loyal and protective of their families when it comes to defending them against danger or perceived threats. When raised properly these crossbreeds make great pets; however, without proper training early on, destructive behavior could become an issue as well. It is important to ensure that you have enough time to devote to consistent training and socializing exercises starting from puppyhood until adulthood. By providing adequate physical activity and quality playtime each day along with regular visits to the vet, owners will find themselves rewarded with a devoted companion who will love them unconditionally. This makes the extra effort worth it! Barking Tendencies When it comes to barking tendencies, a Boxer Rottweiler mix can be both a blessing and a curse. This beloved breed is known for being full of energy, which definitely shows itself in its bark! But how loud are they? Barking level: Boxer Rottweiler mixes are considered medium-to-high barkers; while they may not constantly yodel throughout the day, their enthusiasm will certainly show when something exciting happens or if someone approaches the house. Speech pattern: They tend to have short barks with a distinctive growl underneath — this combination makes them sound quite intimidating at times! Instincts: Being part Rottweiler, these dogs have strong protective instincts that often come out through excessive barking. That said, proper training can help mitigate this issue. Activity needs: As energy breeds, Boxer Rottweilers need plenty of daily exercise in order to stay happy and healthy — an hour each day should do the trick. While some owners find themselves frustrated by the amount of noise their pup makes, others simply embrace it as part of having such lively canine companions around. No matter your stance on barking, knowing what to expect ahead of time will make life much easier down the line. Drooling Potential Although some breeds are known to be slobbery and prone to frequent or excessive salivating, this hybrid is typically not one of them. Generally speaking, they do not tend to drool much at all, as their mouths close tightly when relaxed. This can make them great house pets in terms of cleanliness around furniture and floors — but keep in mind that no two dogs are identical! It is important to note that if your Boxer Rottweiler mix has any hip dysplasia issues, then it may have an increased tendency to drool due to pain caused by movement or lack thereof. If you notice more than normal saliva production coming from your pet, took for signs of discomfort like limping or favoring a certain side. If you find any cause for concern with regard to health, take them to see a vet immediately. When it comes to Boxer-Rottweiler mixes and children, the answer is generally yes. These dogs can be incredibly loving family members when they are socialized early on with kids. That being said, they do require a bit of extra supervision because of their size and strength. Early socialization is key for this breed so look into puppy classes or similar activities before bringing your pup home. This breed needs plenty of exercise and activity in order to stay healthy; daily walks plus mental stimulation like puzzle toys or trick training are essential. Overall, Boxer-Rottweiler mixes can make very good companions for households with children provided there is proper supervision and care given by the owners. With patience and dedication, these dogs can fit right in with any family dynamic — making everyone happy! Boxer-Rottweiler mixes make loyal and loving family pets. As long as they are properly trained and socialized from an early age, they can get along well with other dogs. In addition to proper training and supervision, providing plenty of mental stimulation for your pup will also help him stay calm when interacting with others. With the right amount of love, care, exercise, and attention these dogs provide to their owners in return; they make great companions for those looking for a loyal canine companion who loves being part of the family dynamic. The Boxer Rottweiler mix is a popular dog breed, so grooming needs should be considered when determining whether this pet would be the right fit for you. The good news is that they have low-shedding coats and are relatively easy to groom. However, regular brushing sessions are still required in order to keep their coat healthy and prevent any tangles or mats from forming. This hybrid breed sports a short-haired coat with lots of volume which gives off an eye-catching look but also means oil accumulation on the skin may occur faster if not taken care of properly. Moving onto nutrition and feeding. A high-quality dry kibble is generally the preferred choice for this breed, but you can also add some fresh ingredients like brown rice or vegetables in moderation. When selecting food for your puppy, look for one with at least 18 percent protein content from animal sources. You should also choose an age-appropriate formula specifically designed for large breeds since these dogs grow quickly and need extra calories during this period of rapid development. Lastly, make sure any treats you give your dog are low in fat and sugar — try something natural like freeze-dried liver instead! Nutrition plays an integral role in the well-being of all living creatures, especially those adorable Boxer Rottweiler mixes! Health Problems The Boxer Rottweiler mix can inherit health issues from either or both of their parent breeds. Boxers are prone to certain health problems such as heart issues, hip dysplasia, and certain cancers. Whereas Rottweilers are prone to hip dysplasia, certain cancers, and eye problems. Additionally, responsible breeders should screen their dogs for any genetic health issues and provide documentation of those screenings to potential puppy buyers. Lifespan The lifespan of a Boxer Rottweiler mix can vary depending on several factors, including genetics, diet, exercise, and lifestyle. On average, the lifespan of this mix is between 9 to 12 years. By providing your Boxer Rottweiler mix with proper care, regular veterinary check-ups, and a healthy lifestyle, you can help them live a long and happy life. Puppy Prices Prices for Boxer Rottweiler mixes vary depending on a number of factors and the puppy you are getting. Additionally, adopting a Boxer Rottweiler mix from a rescue or shelter can be a more affordable option.
Why do you think the police force and military are using the German Shepherd so much? Sure, a Doberman can do the job just fine and there are definitely dog breeds that have stronger olfactory senses or stronger bites but they may not be willing to obey every command in every situation. They are too intelligent to outright obey everything which can sometimes be perceived as stubborn. Does that mean the German Shepherd is not smart? Absolutely not. In fact, the German Shepherd is often cited as one of the smartest dog breeds, right after their cousin the Belgian Shepherd, also known as Malinois. Their will to please outranks. How trainable is the German Shepherd Husky mix? Well, the Husky is known to be quite independent by design. So even though pairing these two very smart dog breeds makes sense at first glance, a Shepherd Husky mix might not be as easy to train as imagined. That being said, pairing a German Shepherd with a more agreeable Husky can certainly help. Genetics and temperament of the parents always play a pretty big role. This is not always the case and even a purebred may struggle with protection without proper direction and training. Always consult a professional to avoid teaching your dog negative behavior patterns barking at strangers on walks, lunging at dogs, and so on. Huskies are incredibly enduring. How could they not, they were bred to run hundreds of miles in very cold climates. But their original working purpose was quite specific and they may need to have an outlet for this desire to run. Training your dog early on will prevent behavioral issues in the future and gets your dog used to brain training. Since both breeds are relatively high energy, you need to walk your Shepsky at least twice a day for a minimum of minutes each. The German Shepherd is known to be a formidable family dog while the Husky can be quite reserved. Huskies are used to living and working in a pack and can be very sociable animals while Shepherds develop a deep bond with their owners. Although pairing these two breeds can produce great family dogs, there are other large dog breeds that are even suitable for apartment living out there that are very patient with children and also perfect for guarding property. Expect to have a very smart dog that will challenge you throughout the day. He will probably grow into a medium to large-sized dog with a weight of about 40 to 80 pounds. Both dogs are working breeds so you can expect a Shepsky to have high exercise needs. A task or daily job would keep them the happiest. Grooming Both dog breeds can have relatively similar coat types. Huskies have a thick double coat, meaning an undercoat plus guard hair. While the undercoat is soft and dense, the guard hairs are straight and somewhat smooth. Depending on the specific pairing, the coat can be a toin coss. Be ready for shedding seasons with both of these dogs. You can expect your male German Shepherd Husky mix to be in cm with a weight of lbs kg. Female German Shepherd Husky mixes range from in cm , weighing in at lbs kg. Apartment Living Can you live in an apartment with a high-energy dog like the German Shepherd Husky mix? It depends. If you provide your dog with an outlet for his exercise needs which means lots of walks, play, and training then there should be absolutely no problem. However, their tendency for high-pitched barks or howling may cause problems with your neighbors. Proper training will help and entails teaching your dog the quiet command. Would I advise you to buy a mixed breed from a breeder? Definitely not. There are far too many mixed breeds sitting in shelters and waiting to be chosen. As long as there are no health issues present in their ancestry, you could argue that mixed breeds might be healthier than purebreds from backyard breeders. Beware of backyard breeders mixing in a third breed without stating so. Make sure to check out my breeder questions before you fall victim to scammers or backyard breeders. Make sure to talk to a veterinarian or nutritionist first. Do you have a German Shepherd Husky mix? Share with us your experiences in the comments below! Bogart was a street dog and we had gotten a call to help a starving, emaciated dog who was spotted for weeks out. We set a trap and noticed something very disturbing on our camera footage. Bogart's penis was fully degloved, had open wounds on it and he was in a critical state as he must be caught or he could face an amputation or death of the exposed organ. Patiently we waited and for two days hoped this emaciated boy would go in and finally he did. We immediately took him to the shelter to register him as a stray in the event he had an owner and to get immediate ER attention. He was dehydrated, went on IVS, antibiotics and other meds while the doctor and staff desperately tried to help fix his penis and save it. Finally after a few days the skilled vet was able to work the skin over and fix his injury that was a result of some unknown trauma. He has scars all over his head, legs and body, one of his ears is shredded and is heartworm positive. Despite all of this he is a sweet, gentle boy and nervous. Loud noises startle him and even something as simple as throwing a ball made him run and try to scale a fence as he was startled. Bogart has a long way to go but he is doing remarkably well for all he has endured. Bogart is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Email: tricia denningfarms. They pride themselves on taking great care in finding a good home for all their puppies. They sell their puppies across the US, supported by safe and humane shipping methods. Denning Farm is currently breeding Puggles. These cute bundles of joy are a pug-beagle cross. All puppies are home raised with love. They are keen to pass on their expertise and pet professionals to all of their prospective pet owners. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time. Why Is My Dog Shaking? During that period, and to this day, people still ask me what the best collar is that they can put on their German Shepherd puppy. I personally feel that the puppy stage is a time of learning. This is why I like harnesses. That said, all dogs are different and have different motivations. What works for one may not work for another. I personally have many different collars for different situations. I will go over them below. I have always loved the harness and I recently discovered a new type of harness specially designed to prevent your puppy from pulling as the latch is on the front. This is an amazing idea and the reviews on this item speak for themselves. I wish I had one of these. I just ordered one for Aura even though she is 6 years old! What size collar does a German Shepherd puppy need? Collars on the market come in all shapes and sizes, some with colors and bling. Collars prevent a dog from being lost. But if a collar is too big, it slips off. Then too, both Bonnie and Clyde will grow out of their first collar pretty quickly. In most areas, dogs must have a collar with identification, so the sooner Clyde starts wearing his collar, the better. So how do you shop? A more scientific approach is measuring. A little wiggle room makes for comfort. More than that, and watch Clyde become an escape artist. A German Shepherd puppy can wear a collar on the day you bring it home. The sooner you introduce your Shepherd to wearing a collar, the sooner it becomes accustomed to the feeling. Nonetheless, there are choices in the types of collars you can consider. They may be leather, nylon, or cloth. You can find them at nearly every pet shop, and you can easily add ID tags to the rings. The rolled collar wears a little longer, but a puppy can choke on these, so think flat, especially if Clyde has a tendency to tug. You can start walking Bonnie about 2 weeks after her inoculation, so you want to take extra care in getting the right collar. There are ways to introduce them to it, and make the experience far better for both of you. Approach it as part of your training ritual. Let Bonnie smell her collar. Give her a piece of kibble afterward. Next, actually fasten the collar, leaving it for a few minutes, and provide a treat. Slowly lengthen the time you leave the collar in place. Some owners of German Shepherds opt for a harness over a collar. If you are planning to walk your dog regularly, a collar becomes part of training your dog to heel. The attached tag becomes essential should it get out of the house or break off the leash. Even if your dog is chipped, the tag is immediately recognizable to anyone finding Bonnie. In the world of canines, there is no such thing as one-size-fitting-all. Every puppy, even those of the same breed, will have slightly different measurements depending on how quickly they grow. If you are unable to take Clyde on a ride, you can use a measuring tape at home, then buy accordingly. Tip: If you are buying online, get two in different sizes. Leather: Leather is strong, comfortable, and durable but a little expensive. Smelly Dog Collar? Bacteria, dead skin, dirt, and environmental debris can all be contributing to that unpleasant aroma. No collar is stink-proof, so wash yours regularly. Vinegar, water, and baking soda usually does the trick. German Shepherds are powerful and often headstrong. This makes even a puppy difficult to control. So, you may have questions about what is the best collar for a German Shepherd Puppy. It can injure the dog when Clyde pulls hard. The design lets you give a gentle pull for correction. Bonnie will take a little extra time adjusting to this, so be patient. Harness: Harnesses have less control over your dog when walking, but are a good option for Clyde if he has respiratory problems restricting the use of a conventional collar. The idea of a shock collar makes many dog owners grimace. However, if you decide you want to use one, you will need to wait until Bonnie is 15 weeks of age. If she responds to your commands and actively participates in your play time together, she is probably ready. As you get to know more about your pup, training and socialization become easier. By considering the specific needs of your German Shepherd and your desired features, you'll be able to find the perfect collar to keep your furry friend safe, stylish, and comfortable. With numerous collar options available, it's crucial to consider specific factors to ensure you select the best collar for your loyal companion. In this article, we'll discuss the top five factors to consider when buying a collar for your German Shepherd. Size and Adjustability The first factor to consider when selecting a collar is the size. German Shepherds have an average neck size ranging between 18 to 24 inches, depending on their age, sex, and individual growth. Measure your dog's neck using a soft tape measure, allowing for two fingers of space between the collar and the neck for comfort. It's also essential to choose a collar that is adjustable. Adjustable collars usually come with a buckle or sliding mechanism, making it easy to modify the collar's size as needed. Material and Durability While German Shepherds and shepadoodles share certain traits, their collar needs can differ. German Shepherds are strong, active dogs that require a collar made from durable materials. Common collar materials include nylon, leather, and metal. Nylon collars are favored for their durability, affordability, and ease of cleaning. Leather collars, on the other hand, present a timeless aesthetic and robustness but may demand more upkeep to maintain the leather's quality. Metal collars, like choke chains or prong collars, should be approached with caution and only implemented under the direction of a skilled trainer. Choose a collar that can withstand your German Shepherd's strength and energy while remaining comfortable for daily wear. Safety Features Safety should be a top priority when selecting a collar for your German Shepherd. Reflective or brightly colored collars can improve visibility, especially during early morning or evening walks. Some collars also come with breakaway features, which can be beneficial if your dog gets caught on something while exploring. If you're concerned about your German Shepherd wandering off or getting lost, consider a collar with GPS tracking capabilities, like the Fi Collar. This advanced feature allows you to track your dog's location in real time and provides peace of mind. Collar Type There are various collar types to choose from, including standard buckle collars, martingale collars, and head collars. Each collar type serves a different purpose, and it's essential to choose the one that best suits your German Shepherd's needs. Standard buckle collars are the most common and suitable for daily use. Martingale collars are designed to provide more control for dogs that tend to pull on their leash, while head collars are ideal for dogs that require additional guidance during walks. Style and Personalization While style may not be the most critical factor, many dog owners enjoy selecting a collar that reflects their dog's personality or matches their aesthetic preferences. Collars come in various colors, patterns, and designs, allowing you to choose one that suits your taste. Additionally, many collars offer personalization options, such as embroidery or engraved tags, which can display your dog's name and your contact information. This adds an extra layer of security and can help reunite you with your dog if they ever get lost. When choosing a collar for your German Shepherd, considering factors such as size, adjustability, material, safety features, collar type, and style will ensure you select the best option for your furry friend. By keeping these factors in mind, you'll be able to find a comfortable, durable, and secure collar that meets your German Shepherd's needs and keeps them safe during their adventures. Welcoming a German Shepherd puppy into your home can be an exciting time. But with so many options on the market, how do you choose the best one for your German Shepherd puppy? It is a vital tool that contributes significantly to their safety, training, and overall well-being. Safety: First and foremost, a collar carries identification and contact information, which is crucial if your puppy ever gets lost. A snugly fitted collar ensures that these details are always with your puppy, increasing the chances of a safe return home. Training: A properly sized collar is indispensable for leash training. It provides control without causing discomfort, making walks and training sessions safer and more enjoyable for both you and your puppy. Health: An ill-fitting collar can cause various health problems. Comfort: Last but not least, a well-fitted collar ensures comfort. Determining the right size collar for your German Shepherd puppy is crucial to their comfort and safety. Most collars come with a size chart to help you decide what size collar to get for your puppy. Here are some steps to help you find the perfect fit: 1. You can use a soft measuring tape for this. Add Some Length: Once you have this measurement, add an extra 2 inches to allow room for growth and adjustment. This is particularly important for puppies, as they grow quickly. Collar sizes usually indicate the neck measurements they fit. Adjust it so that you can comfortably slip two fingers under the collar. A collar that fit perfectly a month ago might now be too tight. German Shepherd puppies have an average neck size of around inches. Make sure to adjust the collar accordingly as your German Shepherd puppy gains weight during their growth period. Best Dog Collars for German Shepherd Puppies Choosing the appropriate collar for your German Shepherd puppy can make a significant difference in their comfort, training, and safety. Here are some collar types you might consider: Adjustable Collars These are the most common type of collars. They are typically made from nylon or leather and come in a variety of colors and designs. They have a buckle or a quick-release fastener and are ideal for attaching identification tags. These flat collars offer adjustability to fit a variety of sizes, making them great for growing puppies. As your German Shepherd puppy gains weight, you can adjust the collar size to ensure it always fits correctly. The reflective collar comes in 12 vibrant colors and is adjustable to fit dogs of various sizes. With its combination of quality materials, thoughtful design, and reasonable price, this collar is an excellent choice for pet owners — especially if you live in a neighborhood without street lights like mine! A breakaway collar is designed to reduce the risk of a dog becoming fatally tangled or caught by his or her collar. It will give you the peace of mind when your dog plays with other dogs because the patented buckle will separate when pressure is applied. To take your German Shepherd puppy on a walk, you simply need to fasten the two metal D rings to prevent the collar from breaking away. Blueberry Classic Dog Collar Wearing a collar may be a new experience for your German Shepherd puppy, so you want to ease the transition. Available in 21 vibrant colors, this classic dog collar combines safety, comfort, and style, making it a favorite choice among pet owners. Harness Collars A common choice for German Shepherd puppies, harness collars offer the best comfort and safety for your furry friend. Head collars are also great if your German Shepherd puppy is very active and loves to pull on the leash. Harness collars are available in many different materials, including nylon, leather, and mesh. While a harness may be more comfortable for your puppy than a neck collar, it can be harder to put on and take off. Head Collars A head collar for dogs is a type of behavioral tool designed to guide or lead a dog. This design can help reduce unwanted behaviors such as excessive pulling, jumping, or lunging during walks. Despite their appearance, head collars are not muzzles and do not prevent a dog from opening its mouth to eat, drink, pant, or bark. Martingale Collars Martingale collars are a great choice for German Shepherd puppies who tend to slip out of their collars or have sensitive necks. Unlike traditional collars, Martingale collars tighten gently when your dog pulls on the leash, preventing him from escaping while minimizing the risk of choking or injury. These collars are made with a slip loop that tightens as your puppy tries to back out. GPS Collars If you live in a busy area or have a large property, a GPS collar can give you peace of mind knowing that your German Shepherd puppy is never out of your sight. These collars are equipped with GPS tracking devices that allow you to locate your puppy if he ever wanders off. GPS collars are available in a range of styles and sizes to suit different needs and preferences. Training Collars These include various designs like prong, choke, and electronic collars. They should be used with caution and preferably under professional guidance, as incorrect use can harm your puppy. Tactical Collars These are durable, strong collars often used for working dogs. They may come with features like handle grips and patches. When selecting a collar type for your German Shepherd puppy, consider their current size, expected growth, and training needs. Final Thoughts on What Size Collar for German Shepherd Puppy Choosing the right collar for your German Shepherd puppy is an important part of raising a healthy, happy, and well-trained dog. And as with everything you purchase for your German Shepherd puppy, make sure you do your research and invest in a quality product that will last for years to come. Black and chocolate available. No AKC. As my website states, I am not like other breeders in many ways. First, I want to explain how the average Labrador breeder raises their pups the first few weeks of their life. They expect these tiny pups without their senses fully developed to find their way to a nipple without being smothered. I understand that this is what dogs do in the wild, but this is also why many puppies die in the wild. .Then, on top of that they hope that each of the pups will get enough milk on it's own to make it through the 1st week of life. They expect the Lab mom to do all the work, so they don't have to lose a wink of sleep. This is all very sad to say but it's true. I, on the other hand, care about each individual pup's life, I care that each and every one of them survive so that they can live a full and happy life. So, I make sure that each individual pup is given outstanding care. How do I do this? I began with hand raising each one of my pups the first 3 weeks of its life. What do I mean by hand raise my pup? It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. I am up now about to give my pups their 3 am feeding. Hope this helps you all understand what is put into each litter. She is from our breeding between Cash and Bella, both parents are health certified. Sugar is overnight crate trained and has some other training. She has the sweetest disposition; we absolutely love her! However, we have had a family emergency that has come up that may cause us to have to put Sugar up for sale. If you would be interested in Sugar, please email us and let us know about yourself, and the lifestyle that you would be able to give Sugar. We will be reviewing potential families who would be interested in Sugar and pick the best family for her, and make a decision later this month. They are given constant positive attention their whole time with us. We have a big game room that we call the "Labby Room" This room is designated for our labs and their lab puppies. The puppies get a lot of interaction with all our kids in this room. They also become well adjusted to all the sounds of the home life, like the sound of a vacuum. When the pups are born, I will contact you and inform you on how many pups were born. We will post up pictures of each litter soon after they are born. And try to post weekly picture updates so you can watch the puppies grow. We will also post video on our face book page. When the pups are 6 to 7 weeks of age, I will contact you to set up an appointment for you choose and pick up your pup at 8 weeks of age. If you had first deposit in for a male pup you will have first choice of all the males available. If you have second deposit in, you will have the next appointment to choose from the males that are left and so forth. This order of reserving pups would also apply to the females as well. We honor all reservations on a puppy by not selling the puppy to anyone else. So if you are interested in a litter and don't want to make a reservation until "you see the litter". An appointment can be made to view the left-over puppies when they are 10 weeks old, and no sooner. No appointments will be allowed at a younger age, except for the families that made a prior reservation. We will not allow our baby puppies to be exposed to potential life threatening viruses from people that are just "shopping". We wait until all puppies that have been reserved are safely home, before we show any left-over puppies. Any left-over pups will be at least 10 weeks of age before any viewings are allowed, to insure they have at least had 2 sets of shots in. The only other accommodation that we can offer is a zoom call, so you can see the pups before you make a reservation. Most of our sweet puppies are sold before they are even born. Reserve your puppy today!
