All of our breeding dogs have been genetically tested. Genetic testing in dogs gives us insight to conditions like Muscular Dystrophy, which sometimes is found in Golden Retrievers or Glaucoma, which is found in poodles. Having this insight and knowledge allows us to deter breeding, if the female or male shows this in their genetic panel. Then, when we breed the clear panel parents, the puppies are cleared under the parents. Our underlying goal is to improve the breed. Breeding is not about the numbers for Sugarshack Doodles! Raising puppies is a full-time job. People many times do not realize the financial cost of having a litter of puppies. Genetic screening, health tests before breeding, extra food, supplies, medical care involved in whelping a litter adds up quickly. It is important to us to listen to our buyers and make sure that the dog we have is a correct fit for the buyer. We know our genetics! We have male and female dogs on site and breed only to our own dogs. We do not stud out our males. We retire our females at about four or five years and find them guardian homes; mostly to our friends and family. Our pups have a life expectance of approximately years. Many of our dogs are currently with us and are 18 years old. A "fair" result on a hip will disqualify a dog from entering into our breeding program. We have our dogs in our home and in our own backyard of seven acres. We do not go to dog parks or walk in unknown territory. Our puppies are sold to buyers with full disclosures and are up to date on shots and wormings. After the pups go home at weeks of age, we still offer at cost immunizations and wormings should this be needed. Before they leave, we review all of their vaccinations and immunizations and offer microchipping. We do ask that your dog be spayed or neutered at seven to nine months of age and that the females do not go through a heat cycle. We ask you sign a no-breed contract. Many of us are groomers and will provide grooming services to you after you take your puppy home. Our fees are reasonable, and they are donated to local charities such as American Cancer Society, Food Pantries in the area and Animal Shelters! We try to make the transition of bringing a new little pet into your home an easy one. We go through all of the items that we think you will need and then of course, if there are any extra items we will recommend those as well. We were present during the birthing process and will stand right by our puppies until they are in your loving arms. F1b Goldendoodle puppies What size and type of doodle will fit your style? Doodles in General Doodles come in many sizes and generations! In a few sentences there is the first generation, which is the standard golden retriever and poodle This will produce the F1, or first generation. This F1 bred back to a poodle will give you an F1b. If you breed an F1 to an F1, you will get a second generation. A second generation, F2, bred back to poodle will give you an F2b. A multigenerational doodle is one that has been bred Goldendoodle to Goldendoodle for more than three generations. This, we call an F3. Sizes Sugarshack Doodles breeds micro mini, mini and petite, as well as small standard doodles. We breed doodles that are 10 pounds and under, , and then you will see our 40 pound pups and of course, we do have an over 40 size, generally under 55 pounds. We breed double doodles and this includes our sheepadoodles. Our sheepadoodles are minis, this is pounds. Coat types It is very important to know that dog coats vary on doodles, to study the genetics of each dog and know what your end result will be. People that are looking for an exceptionally curly doodle need to know that it is probably an F1bb or three parts poodle. As a breeder, I use my knowledge as well as Embark and other genetic results when making the decision of which male to use. A good breeder will not only get the testing done on their dogs, but be able to understand and utilize this information. I personally prefer the wavy coats and not the excessive curl. Therefore, I breed for a wavy coat to a minimal curl. Personalities Personality varies from dog to dog. If we see any abnormal or minimally aggressive personalities in our dogs, they are not eligible for our breeding program. This is an unacceptable trait and typically not only is the pup disqualified, but the parents are as well. Even though the parents may not have ever exhibited aggression, that fact that this trait was dominant in the puppies is indicative that both parents carried recessive genes for this trait to be dominant in the puppy. Although we have never seen this in our breeding program, it is something that should be discussed and disclosed. I do not believe that an aggressive pup should be sold. Our puppies are started out on early neurological stimulation ENS from birth until the time they are ready to go home. A lot of one on one time is spent on our puppies, including puppy pad training, crate training, puppy bed training all during a time during which mom is teaching them independence from nursing and encouraging them to eat dry dog food. His tests, Embark, genetic panels, eyes and hips are all excellent. She is about 35 pounds, her coat is gorgeous gray and white. Droopy eyes also tend to be more common than we would like them to. So why does it happen? These conditions, although sounding severe, are typically not fatal if they occur on their own. Yet, if they are indications of underlying causes, this is where it might get a bit concerning. Ectropion exposes the delicate conjunctival tissues lining and covering the surface of the eyelids, causing the tissues to dry. Keratitis can also occur when the surface of the eye or the cornea dries up corneal inflammation. Corneal injury can also cause scarring, which can impede or block vision. Both eyes are afflicted in most cases of Ectropion. Ectropion is often detected in dogs under the age of one year. Are Golden Retrievers droopy eyes normal? If your golden retriever gets droopy eyes, you need to run some tests to make sure there are no underlying causes like a tumor, broken bone, or injury. A veterinarian will often do a variety of basic tests, including a urine sample analysis, a CBC a blood sample analysis to count the types of cells and their relative quantities , and a physical exam. If the vet suspects a tumor, broken bone, or injury, medical imaging will be needed, such as an X-ray and ultrasound. If the case appeared to be more severe, your vet would probably request an MRI and CT scans — these might require a hospital though Suppose your dog appears feverish and displaying abnormal behavior. In that case, your doctor may conduct a spinal tap: inserting a needle between the vertebrae to collect spinal fluid to determine if your pet has an infection of the nervous system. Some neurological diseases may cause loss of function to the nerve that supplies the third eyelid. Other neurological diseases that might reveal the third eyelid can be Tetanus and Dysautonomia. Third eyelid showing may also happen due to some physical reasons like the following: Spinal cord or brain infection Brain, neck, or chest trauma A tumor in the brain or spine Infection compromising nervous tissue How does a droopy eye recover? Careful though, dehydration and infection are reasons that droopy eyes may reappear every once in a while, so make sure your dog is protected against these two. You can fix signs of droopy eyes with eye drops. However, an underlying cause like bacterial meningitis will need antibiotics, whereas tumors will need surgical removal, radiation, or chemotherapy, and trauma will require surgical intervention. Can puppies grow out of Ectropion? Puppies usually grow out of Ectropion by the age of one year, if mild. Even though most cases of mild ectropion will require little to no surgical intervention and can just be treated with topical drops and ointments, instances of severe ectropion will not improve without surgical intervention. Symptoms include sunken eyes, tiny pupils, partly closed eyelids, and a third eyelid showing. A combination of droopy eyes and redness may indicate that your dog developed the condition due to various health issues such as nerve damage, infection, injury, or severe chronic inflammation of the eye. Helpful Resources. Eye infections can result from the exposure of the lower conjunctiva. Diagnosis of ectropion In most cases the condition can be confirmed by visual examination. A thorough examination of the eyelids is important since ectropion can often occur in conjunction with entropion Click here to learn about entropion. Treatment of ectropion Ectropion is relatively well tolerated unless it is severe and surgical repair can generally be avoided by treating inflammation with a variety of eye drops. Most cases of ectropion that are not severe will require little if any intervention other than topical drops and ointments. Extremely severe cases of ectropion will not improve without surgical repair. There are several surgical procedures that may be used to reduce ectropion. Prevention of ectropion Because of the hereditary aspect of ectropion, affected dogs will likely transmit the defect. Affected dogs should probably not be bred. Prognosis of ectropion In all but the most severely affected cases the prognosis is quite good. The condition is generally well tolerated and in most cases will respond to simple medical care. Surgical correction may be required in severe cases. Though the surgery is relatively simple it can be very delicate and requires an experienced surgeon. Should I be concerned? How will we know if my dog has entropion too? If you have any questions or concerns, you should always visit or call your veterinarian -- they are your best resource to ensure the health and well-being of your pets. This medical condition is characterized by a dog's eyelid or eyelids rolling outward. While it is not always a serious ailment that impacts your dog's eye function, it is something to learn more about and connect with your veterinarian to see how to best handle this condition with your pup. What Is Ectropion in Dogs? Ectropion is the opposite of entropion. In cases of genetic ectropion, it is often identified when the dog is still a puppy. But keep in mind that ectropion can also develop secondary to trauma to your dog's eye, especially if there is a laceration of the lower eyelid that does not heal correctly, McKinnon says. This can happen to a dog at any age. What Are the Symptoms of Ectropion in Dogs? If you notice that your dog's eyelids are sagging or rolling outward, they may have ectropion. Another thing to look for, according to McKinnon, would be discharge that builds up around their eyes. Because the eyelid is exposed, it may appear more red than usual as well because the openness of the eyelid exposes the ocular tissues, including the cornea and conjunctiva, to the environment. The only treatment for serious cases of ectropion is surgery, McKinnon says. An ocular lubricant may be recommended to cushion the eye tissues from any environmental debris in those breeds where ectropion is a desirable trait and blink function is normal," McKinnon says. You'll want to have your vet check your pooch's eyes twice a year to ensure the condition is not becoming more serious.
