Featured Sessions All of my custom pet photo sessions start with a phone call to plan the perfect session for each pet family. No two are ever completely alike, even at the same location! She said that she would love to do her photo session there because it would be such a fitting location for her two hunting dogs, Brittany Spaniels Gauge and Georgia. Both dogs were on leash for their whole session, and it was removed later, in Photoshop. We use a 30 foot lead for running shots like these! She was very concerned that her busy, active hunting dogs could not be off leash, but she really wanted to capture them being active in a natural setting that suited the breed. This is especially common if your dog has dewclaws. If they pull hard enough the outer casing of the nail can be ripped off exposing the quick and nerve endings. A trip to your local Vet is usually required to treat and in worst cases your dog may need to be sedated so the wound can be cleaned and repaired. Overgrown Nails Cause Accidents — Dogs use their nails for traction and balance when walking or running. Nails that are too long can cause a dog to slip and fall more easily. Older, arthritic dogs find these changes to be particularly uncomfortable. Nail trimming is a relatively easy way to avoid injury to your pet. At 9 weeks, and then again at 12 weeks, the de-wormer and distemper vaccines will be repeated. Then these can be given once a year or on a schedule determined by you and your veterinarian. Even with regular tooth brushing, dogs may need dental cleanings once in a while. Plaque and bacteria can build up under the gum line causing problems there or in the roots of the teeth. Entropion is a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the cornea surface of the eyeball. This is an extremely irritating and painful condition that can ultimately lead to blindness. It can happen in any dog breed; however, your Bulldog is especially at risk for this heritable disorder. Surgical correction is usually successful if performed early. Dry eye, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca or KCS, is common in Bulldogs. The tear glands no longer produce enough tears to keep the eye moist, which results in sore, itchy eyes and infections. Symptoms include a thick discharge, squinting, pawing at the eye, or a dull, dry appearance of the eye. This is a painful condition; please call us immediately if you notice any of these signs. Dogs have a third eyelid that contains a gland that produces about one-third of the fluid that bathes the eye. If the gland is sore or swollen, it looks like a red blob in the corner of the eye. This condition is called cherry eye, and it can occur very suddenly in one or both eyes. If this happens to him, we may treat it with ointment first, but surgery is often the best option.
