Filling you in on these things is the fundamental purpose of this article, where we discuss crucial criteria for judging quality breeders of Goldendoodle puppies in Minnesota and recommend some of the best ones. Choosing a Responsible Goldendoodle Breeder Choosing to adopt a Goldendoodle puppy is one of the easiest decisions in the world. Once you are sure that you are ready for all the commitments a dog entails, a Doodle really is the obvious choice. These gorgeous pups have been carefully bred to combine all the very best of other dogs in one super family-friendly package… just as long as you find the right breeder. This is where things get complicated. The price of designer Doodles attracts all sorts trying to make some easy money by deceiving potential buyers. This type of scam is sadly all too common. See Also: Click the image Puppy mills are another potential problem in the world of dog breeding. These are kennels where profit is king above all else. The puppies and their parents are poorly cared for and raised in inhumane conditions. The best way to avoid a puppy mill is to ask to see where the dogs are being kept — either in person or via video chat. Then you can gauge the conditions for yourself. Other breeders may do their best by the dogs but may not know all that much about guaranteeing the best health of the puppies they produce. The output could be Goldies who are sick or that have inherited genetic issues from their parents, which may not be apparent until they are older. A few ways to ensure a high-quality breeding facility is to: Check Certification While a breeding license is not necessary for those with fewer than ten dogs, other types of certification can help you judge the quality of the facility you are dealing with. Just always make sure to double-check that they actually are. Never just take them at their word. Make sure you always ask for evidence of these. A reputable facility will be used to providing this information and will not hesitate to do so upon request. Specific details on what to look for with Goldendoodles can be found here. Look For a Health Guarantee Facilities that are really secure in their breeding standards will be happy to provide new owners with a health guarantee. This basically shows that the puppy is in the best possible health as far as can be determined by the relevant vet checks and tests. The length of such guarantees can extend for 48 hours — just long enough for you to have your vet give the pup a good looking over — to up to two years. This allows the owners to rule out any genetic disorders that may only develop as the puppy matures. Seek Recommendations from A Trusted Source A preferred method of selecting a good breeder among dog owners is to seek recommendations from those in the know. Numerous expert websites such as Goldendoodles. See below for our recommendations for where to buy Goldendoodle puppies in Minnesota. Is there room in your heart for Cheese? He has the longest tongue for such a small guy. Do you have room for him? That especially applies to dogs from shelters and rescue centers that might have already had a bad start in life. Tells You Any Health Problems A reputable breeder or seller will be open and honest about the health of the dog. If there are any health issues that you need to be aware of, they will tell you. Asks More Questions Than You The breeder should be keen to reassure themselves that the puppy is going to a knowledgeable home and to owners that understand how to care for a dog properly. Requires Expectations On Both Sides Before agreeing to sell you a puppy, the breeder should be keen to establish what both parties expect from each other. For example, a deposit may be required from you to secure a puppy. Small breeders who only produce one or two litters of puppies every year generally do so for the love of the breed rather than to make vast profits. Sends Puppies Properly Most reputable breeders insist that you collect the puppy from them in person. However, that might not be possible, depending on where you live, Covid restrictions, etc. In those circumstances, the breeder often offers to ship the puppy to you. When I was looking around for a puppy, I noticed that many so-called professional breeders offered multiple breeds for sale. In some cases, the breeder uses a Poodle stud dog to cover several different breeds of mother dogs. That breeder specializes in three specific small breeds, is fully licensed, and is definitely not a puppy farm! Shows Breeding Experience The best breeders are well-established with plenty of experience in producing high-quality, well-bred puppies. Puppy-proofing Puppies are notorious for getting into everything! That can mean destruction for your home and potential danger for your puppy. So, take time to puppy-proof your home by placing anything tempting out of reach of your fluffy bundle of mischief. When I bought my first puppy home many years ago, the garden immediately became his go-to place. That was great, as it meant my pup could run around and burn off his excess energy, as well as experience all kinds of sights and sounds. The doorbell rang, and I answered to find my neighbor standing on the doorstep, clutching my puppy! The little guy had escaped through the hole and wandered off down the road. Luckily, my neighbor spotted him and scooped him up before any harm was done. So, always remember to check and re-check your fences before you let your new furbaby out to play! Introducing The Potty Place Potty training your Goldendoodle puppy is something that many owners dread. Most pups get to regard their crate as a cozy den that they can retreat to when they want to sleep or chill out. Take time to train your puppy to use his crate, and never use the crate as a punishment. Scheduling Dogs are creatures of habit and they thrive on a schedule. Patience Puppies are like small children. They will soak up new experiences and lessons like sponges and are typically very quick learners. However, you must be patient when training your furry friend. Never get angry and punish your pet for getting something wrong. Simply be consistent and sympathetic in your training, using praise, treats, and positive reinforcement to get the job done. In Conclusion I hope you enjoyed our list of 7 of the best Goldendoodle breeders in Minnesota. If you found the guide helpful, please share! Always visit the breeder to see the puppies and their parents. Likewise, good breeders are very careful to send their puppies to the very best homes, so be prepared to answer lots of questions about your dog-owning experience! Top of the line Their temperament, their disposition, their health.I have 3 amazing boxer babies from t.Further information: Bullenbeisser Friedrich Robert and his boxer, The Boxer is a hunting mastiff developed in Germany in the late 19th century from the now extinct Bullenbeisser , a dog of English Mastiff descent, and Bulldogs brought in from Great Britain. Its task was to seize the prey and hold it until the hunters arrived. In later years, faster dogs were favored and a smaller Bullenbeisser was bred in Brabant , in northern Belgium. The Brabanter Bullenbeisser is generally accepted as being a direct ancestor of today's Boxer. The club went on to publish the first Boxer breed standard in , a detailed document that has not been changed much since. During World War I , the Boxer was co-opted for military work, acting as a valuable messenger dog, pack carrier, attack dog , and guard dog. Taken home by returning soldiers, the dog was introduced to a wider audience and soon became a favorite as a companion, a show dog, and a guard dog. Boxer early genealogy chart Flocki, the first Boxer German citizen George Alt, a Munich resident, mated a brindle-colored female dog imported from France named Flora with a local dog of unknown ancestry, known simply as "Boxer", resulting in a fawn-and-white male, named Lechner's Box after its owner. This dog was mated with his own dam, Flora, and one of his offspring was a female called Alt's Schecken. George Alt mated Schecken with a Bulldog named Dr. Flocki was the first Boxer to enter the German Stud Book after winning the aforementioned show for St. Bernards in Munich , which was the first event to have a class specific for Boxers. Blanka von Angertor, Flocki's sister, was even more influential when mated with Piccolo von Angertor Lechner's Box grandson to produce the predominantly white particolored female dog Meta von der Passage, which, even bearing little resemblance with the modern Boxer standard early photographs depict her as too long, weak-backed, and down-faced , is considered the mother of the breed. Our great line of sires all trace directly back to this female. She was a substantially built, low to the ground, brindle and white particolor, lacking in underjaw and exceedingly lippy. As a producing female, few in any breed can match her record. She consistently whelped puppies of marvelous type and rare quality. Those of her offspring sired by Flock St. Salvator and Wotan dominate all present-day pedigrees. Combined with Wotan and Mirzl children, they made the Boxer. Breed name[ edit ] The name "Boxer" is supposedly derived from the breed's tendency to play by standing on its hind legs and " boxing " with its front paws. Brace's Pet Owner's Guide to the Boxer, this theory is the least plausible explanation. At that time, the spelling "baxer" equalled "boxer". Both the verb boxen [English "to box, to punch, to jab"] and the noun Boxer were common German words as early as the late 18th century. The term Boxl, also written Buxn or Buchsen in the Bavarian dialect, means "short leather trousers" or "underwear". The very similar-sounding term Boxerl, also from the Bavarian dialect, is an endearing term for Boxer. These dogs were the result from mixes of Bullenbeisser and other similar breeds. Bier beer probably refers to the Biergarten, the typical Munich beer garden, an open-air restaurant where people used to take their dogs along. The nickname "Deutscher Boxer" was derived from Bierboxer and Boxer could also be a corruption of the former or a contraction of the latter. This seems improbable. Any such action would likely result in a badly bitten if not broken leg. On the other hand, a German breeder of 40 years' experience states positively that the Boxer does not use his feet, except to try to extinguish a small flame such as a burning match. But a Boxer does box with his head. He will hit not bite a cat with his muzzle hard enough to knock it out and he will box a ball with his nose. Or perhaps, since the German dictionary translates Boxer as "prize-fighter", the name was bestowed in appreciation of the fighting qualities of the breed rather than its technique. Boxer is also the name of a dog owned by John Peerybingle, the main character in the best-selling book The Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens , which is evidence that "Boxer" was commonly used as a dog name by the early 19th century, before the establishment of the breed by the end of that same century. A brindle Boxer with two white socks Brindle, fawn, and white Boxer puppies See also: Dog health A healthy Boxer puppy Leading health issues to which Boxers are prone include cancers , heart conditions such as aortic stenosis and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy the so-called " Boxer cardiomyopathy " , [35] hypothyroidism , hip dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy and epilepsy; other conditions that may be seen are gastric dilatation volvulus also known as bloat , intestinal problems, and allergies although these may be more related to diet than breed. An emerging health concern among boxers is Boxer Juvenile Kidney Disease JKD , where the kidneys do not develop normally during gestation and leads to chronic renal failure. There is strong evidence to suggest JKD is an inherited condition in boxers with research being undertaken by the University of Ohio to determine the gene mutation, as well as other work separately by the UK Boxer Breeder Council. Mortality due to infection increases significantly with increases in inbreeding. The breed is particularly predisposed to mast cell tumours, a cancer of the immune system. Because of their brachycephalic heads, they do not do well with high heat or humidity, and common sense should prevail when exercising a Boxer in these conditions. See also: Dog food Boxers need plenty of exercise, which means their diet should be high in quality calories. The main source of these calories should be lean animal protein, which include lean chicken, turkey, lamb, and fish. They sometimes appear at dog agility or dog obedience trials and flyball events. These strong and intelligent animals have also been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, therapy dogs, police dogs in K9 units, and occasionally herding cattle or sheep. The versatility of Boxers was recognized early on by the military, which has used them as valuable messenger dogs, pack carriers, and attack and guard dogs in times of war. Notable Boxers[ edit ] Punch and Judy were awarded the Dickin Medal for conspicuous gallantry or devotion to duty while serving in a military conflict. What Is A European Boxer? Due to the Boxer breed origins, some people would argue that this is the way original Boxers looked like. Boxers were first bred in Germany to be working dogs. They were used for hunting bears and bars, which is why they were called Bullenbeissers, or the German Bulldogs. Over time, this exact breed of dogs disappeared, but its ancestors, the European Boxer breed or rather, German Boxer dogs , kept its legacy. As such, European Boxers have an appearance that is suited to their working dog history. They are strong, muscular dogs that can deal with many tasks, whether that be hunting or protecting your house. In fact, there is only one Boxer breed. However, the issue lies in the fact that there is more than one kennel club that determines the breed standard. Each area has its own major kennel club that determines how a specific dog breed should look. While there are many more kennel clubs, these four are likely the largest ones that determine the standard for the rest of the world. The breed standard will affect the breeding practices and the desirable dogs in the area, which means that the breeders will focus on reproducing dogs that look and behave a certain way over the other ones. As such, some slight differences among dogs of the same breed are possible. Females usually grow to be between 20 and 24 inches, while males are slightly taller , as they can reach up to 25 inches in height. Similarly, males are slightly heavier than females, as females will rarely weigh more than 55 lbs, and males weigh on average 66 lbs. These are muscular dogs with large frames. One of the most notable and prized features they have is their skull to snout ratio, which has to be exactly .They have a wide chest that gives them a rectangular appearance, fairly short legs, high knuckles, and small feet for their size, and a short coat that comes in several colors — although most will have a black mask. While you can find white Boxers and black Boxers, they are not according to the breed standard in Europe. White markings are also desirable, but not the reverse brindle. European Boxer Temperament Some people are afraid of the Boxer breed as they consider them overly aggressive. However, this is nothing but a misconception. According to the Euro Boxer standard, these pups should never be aggressive. Any single sign of aggression disqualifies these pups from further breeding. European Boxers are confident, calm, and brave. These dogs have to be loyal toward all of their family members and they need to be protective. This way, they can fulfill their guard dog duties without mistake. At the same time, this means they have to be wary of strangers, so socialization is the key to reducing any behavioral flaws. These are friendly dogs that know when to be serious. They are fairly easy to train, as their biggest desire is to please their humans. Even as they grow old, European Boxer dogs are fearless and will have no problem fighting for their owner if something is threatening them. At the same time, they should be gentle towards children, although you should never leave them unattended with your little ones. Due to their large size, they might knock a child over or hurt them during a rough playtime. This includes Boxers, as well. Unfortunately, there are many hereditary conditions and not all can be entirely prevented. Many of these conditions can be prevented by picking healthy bloodlines and giving your pup high-quality dog food. Obesity is the leading cause of many disorders, so make sure your pup eats healthy. Otherwise, you might be dealing with a breeder who is simply labeling their dogs to increase the sale. Not just that, but we would advise you to always buy from reputable dog breeders. These people are selling only dogs that have been health tested. This results in healthy litters and dogs with a long lifespan. Reputable breeders will always give you a health guarantee, so you can know your dog will be healthy for a long time. As such, they tend to be a bit more expensive — although not so much to make a huge difference! The function is secondary, while the aesthetics are primary. As such, here are some of the main differences between the American and the European Boxers: Appearance First and foremost, European Boxers are a bit larger and stronger than their American counterparts. They are bulkier and more muscular, and they can truly look scary, especially to strangers. However, they can be a tiny bit shorter than American Boxers due to their shorter legs. They have a larger but narrower snout compared to their European counterparts, which ruins the ratio slightly. However, both types of Boxers are born with floppy ears, and it is up to the breeder whether their ears will be cropped. Still, European Boxers should have their ears and tail intact. If you know how to properly socialize and train your pooch, you can battle most inherited behavioral traits. While you can teach a dog not to be aggressive, you cannot fully influence his character. They also have more stamina and higher energy levels, as they have to run in the field to catch their prey. On the other hand, American Boxers are more laid-back and less energetic, although they are still far from couch potatoes. These dogs are friendlier and more social, sometimes even prone to separation anxiety. Both the European Boxer and the American Boxer make great family companions. They love all of their family members, and they love having playtime companions. As such, it all goes down to what you expect from your family dog. The American Boxers are slightly calmer, with a mellow temperament that might make them appear a bit more stable. They are loyal dogs that would do anything for their owners. Both the European and the American Boxer make top-quality guard dogs. These pups were bred to protect your home and keep it safe from intruders. However, American Boxer dogs were bred for show and homes for decades. However, they might not be as aware of everything as European Boxers are. Also, they are not as strong nor as fast as their European counterparts. As such, European Boxers might be a slightly better choice — but only by a little. Boxers are very clean dogs. However, their short coat will shed. In fact, some Boxers are known to be huge shedders! Fortunately, most dogs shed a small to moderate amount all year round. This is a great thing, as it will reduce the amount of maintenance required. Instead, Boxers are known for their flatulence which leaves a bad odor. At the same time, they are not a good choice for people who struggle with dog allergies. This is not just due to their shedding amount, but also because they are known to drool. As drool is another common allergen, next to dander that gets stuck to the dog hair, these are not hypoallergenic dogs. This is because large dog breeds are more prone to cancer, as well as to some life-threatening conditions such as bloat. In fact, cancer is the main cause of a shorter lifespan in Boxers. Most European Boxers will live 8 to 10 years. However, with a good diet and a reasonable amount of exercise, they can live a bit longer. There are three types of Boxer dogs that evolved due to the differences in the Boxer breed standard. While the American Boxer and the English Boxer are considered to be on the opposite sides of the spectrum, the British Boxer also known as the UK Boxer is something in between the two, making it the less extreme type. Post navigation. About Us Sanchez Boxers Hi! Let me tell you a little about us here at Sanchez Boxers. My name is Angie Sanchez. Boxers are my passion. I love fell in love with this amazing breed in when my husband bought home our 1st boxer from a friend that was moving and couldn't keep her. I can't imagine ever owning another breed. I'm mom to 4 kids, ages .All our dogs and puppies have daily interactions with the whole family. We started out just like everyone else not knowing a lot. We started researching the history of the breed. Asking other breeders lots of questions. We also struck up a good relationship with our Vet. We bred and had puppies for a few years before we discovered the German Euro boxer which we fell in love with. That's not to say that the american boxers aren't awesome as well. I decided that if i was going to do this I was going to do it right. So our 1st German Euro male we got in Started our new lines. We began health testing. Thanks for Paula Vandervoort for having a great talk with me about all the health test needed for boxers. It was my dream to show my boxers. So in we began showing. Which was a whole different learning experience. Never knew I would love to show as much as I have. I don't plan on stopping there. I find that I love working and training my dogs. Well I finally got my wish. Multi Ch. La Diva Box Von Sanchez is our 1st bred by keeper to help me over come alot in the show ring. She has so much fun in the ring. I love her more than she knows. She help build my confidence to step out in the show ring and have a good time win or lose. When she was bred we had high hopes for our keeper from her. We welcomed our 3rd keeper Chiquis to the family her mom is our Diva. Chiquis proved to be so versatile. She will do conformation, but loves to be working. She introduced us to trying a bunch of new things. She has proven that she can do it all. I love helping fellow boxer lovers. Don't hesitate to message me. Our main goal is to breed for conformation, temperment and health. To raise boxers that have great personalities, well socialized, and that comes from strong bloodlines. We have 1 or 2 litters a year. All our dogs are AKC registered. All our dogs and puppies are raised inside our home around other dogs and children. They are played with daily. When we started the adventure of Dog Show Competitions. We still have alot to learn but we are having a blast. Meeting alot of really nice boxer people. That is the only way to describe them. They love the breed as much as we do if not more. We would like to thank you for stopping by. If you have any Questions or would like a puppy contact us anytime. Always happy to talk to another Boxer lover. You can also check out our facebook page for our dogs. You will see pic's of the puppies as they grow from tiny lil baby 1st born and each week as they get bigger until they leave our care. AKC has a program called alternative registration and is not to be confused with Purebred Alternative Listing. I know this program works because I used it for my Great Pyrenees. I called AKC and they walked me through the steps. My Pyr is a very healthy, intelligent, and beautiful dog. The reason his sire and Dam were not registered was that the breeder wanted a quick buck. Anyways after AKC did the research they found he had a titled lineage. I know that I will catch some slack for going through a pet store but I have my reasons for doing so. I feel that getting a pet from a store is much like getting a pet from a shelter because what happens to the PUP if no one buys it. Either way, I went off subject. AKC will register your dog if it has a valid lineage. Oh and AKC has a Pedigree look-up so you can do the research yourself before you call them. Answer by jess It is not true. The only way to get papers is if both parents of the pup are registered and the breeder registered the litter the puppy is in. Know better? Give your own answer to this question!

The English Cream Golden Retriever is not a separate dog breed from the Golden Retriever ; it is simply a rarer coat color variation. These Golden Retrievers tend to have light white or cream-colored coats instead of honey, golden-brown, or reddish coats. As they are still standard Golden Retrievers, they are recognized by the AKC and other canine organizations and can be registered. An English Cream Golden Retriever has all the same traits as any other Golden Retriever; they are one of the most popular dog breeds and tend to be open, friendly, and make great family pets. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. As long as they are socialized and trained, Goldens tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are even known for being open and friendly with strangers. As one of the kid-friendly dog breeds , Golden Retrievers love attention. These dogs tend to be energetic, full of personality, and are devoted to their families. They also tend to be excitable, which means they can be prone to barking. Training your dog to stop barking early on can help curb this habit and help prevent it from becoming a nuisance. Due to their friendly, gentle nature and intelligence, Goldens can often be found working as service, therapy, or search and rescue dogs. English Cream Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. Their high energy and exuberance make them better suited for homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living, but you will need to dedicate a lot of time every day to ensure they get enough attention, mental stimulation, and exercise. Goldens fare well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they bond so closely with their families and are one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Some potential health concerns to be aware of in an English Cream Golden Retriever can include canine cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia. Good breeding practices reduce the risk of these health issues and make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. The national breed club recommends hip and elbow evaluations, an NCL DNA test, an ophthalmologist evaluation, and a cardiac exam at a minimum. English Cream Golden Retrievers are intelligent and eager to please. This makes them highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Not only are they one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners , but they also tend to excel at obedience competitions and other dog sports. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered basic commands , move on to other activities or more advanced commands. Anything you learn will help and will only strengthen the bond you are building with your puppy. Plus, there are several other benefits of puppy training classes including socialization. English Cream Goldens may have a lighter-colored coat, but they still have the classic longer Golden Retriever coat that will shed a big year-round and heavier as the seasons change. You will want to bathe them as needed and get your Golden professionally groomed a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Trimming nails once or twice a month keeps them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to keep tartar buildup at bay. This, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Golden Retrievers are known for being high-energy dogs. Like Labrador Retrievers , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They do tend to calm down a little as they grow into adulthood, but will still have a lot of energy. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep this dog happy and healthy. Goldens tend to be athletic and versatile dogs. So, once they are done growing and the vet has cleared them for higher-impact activities, you can take them running with you, play frisbee, go hiking, train for dog sports, and more. As one of the most active dog breeds , you will likely run out of energy before they do and they will likely be up for even more activity if you are. An English Cream Golden Retriever generally lives for years on average. Golden Retrievers are one of the dog breeds of famous dogs. Why Wisteria Goldens? By Chris The striking Poodle needs no introduction. Even people unfamiliar with dog breeds can easily identify one. But aside from their striking good looks, Poodles have many desirable traits, like their loyalty, intelligence, and hypoallergenic coat. The typical cost of a purebred Poodle ranges from USD. Smaller Toy and Mini Poodles typically cost towards the higher range. Papered show Poodles or genetically strong breeding dogs can fetch far higher prices. A Tan Poodle sitting on an outdoor lounge. How Much Are Poodles? First things first: Poodles are expensive dogs. The reason? Poodles cost a lot to breed and maintain. A reputable breeder puts a lot of blood, sweat, and tears—and money—to ensure that their dogs are healthy and well-maintained. Where you get your Poodle also affects how much you pay for it. There are three types, which differ based on size: Standard: the largest of the three types Miniature: a medium-size Poodle Toy: the smallest of the three types A guilty looking two color Poodle Reputable Poodle Breeder Anyone who wants a purebred Poodle should find a reputable breeder. A reputable breeder is someone with a specific breeding business whose job is to produce the best dogs. As I mentioned above, the cost varies depending on the Poodle type you choose. Accidental Breeder An accidental breeder is exactly what it sounds like—someone who is not in the business of breeding but has a pregnant dog. In most cases, people who run puppy mills do not prioritize the health and safety of their pups. They have lots of dogs, usually more than they can take care of, to make the greatest profit possible. Getting a dog from a puppy mill is risky; you may get a dog with long-term health problems, a shorter life span, or genetic issues. So how do you avoid puppy mills? Online forums are an excellent place to look, especially ones specific to your area. Be sure to also check out breeder reviews. Rescue Finally, you have rescue shelters, which are excellent places to obtain a Poodle for cheap. The big downside in going this route is that finding the dog you want is a matter of luck. The main advantage of shelter dogs is the price. Additionally, most of the time, the shelter ensures that the dog already has all its shots before it goes home with you, saving you some of the healthcare costs. However, if knowing that is not important to you, you can find a fantastic dog for cheap. In addition to the initial fee to take the dog home, you should be aware of the other many Poodle costs. Some are one-time, while others are recurring. You already know that you have to feed the dog throughout its life. Choosing between a Cockapoo vs Poodle can be tricky — they are both super cute, hypoallergenic , and can be non-shedding! Vaccinations Vaccinations are essential to keep dogs healthy. Some are free, while others are not. Health Care Just as you would take a child to the pediatrician for regular checkups, you should take your Poodle to the Vet for an six monthly visit. Your vet may also advise certain medications to keep your dog healthy, like deworming meds. A super cute Poodle sitting on its owners lap Training Training is critical to ensure that your dog is well-behaved. You may feel confident training your dog yourself, but most people choose to send their Poodles to puppy school. You can start Poodle training with potty training at home. There are milestones that Poodles should meet at different ages. Grooming All dogs need to be groomed to some degree to keep their fur and skin healthy. Poodles are no exception, but if you compare them to other breeds, their grooming requirements are much higher. Depending on your preferences, your dog should visit the groomer every month or two. While this breed makes a loving and intelligent family dog , the high cost of having a Poodle—both to purchase it and to maintain it—is not for everyone. Adopting a Poodle? January 20, Written by Sydney Heupel Poodles are one of the most beloved dog breeds out there, with their adorable curly fur and friendly personalities. But how much does it cost to take home a poodle? From purebred puppies to adult rescue pooches, the price of poodles can vary widely depending on breeders, age and other factors. Read on to find out all you need to know about poodle prices! The cost of a Poodle can vary greatly depending on the size, pedigree and breeder. Average Poodle Cost The average cost of a Poodle will depend on various factors such as the type of Poodle, its age and size. Prices may vary based on geographic location and quality of breeding for each individual pooch. It is important to also factor in additional costs when considering purchasing a poodle puppy. Factors Affecting Poodle Price When considering the price of a poodle, there are several factors that come into play. The most significant factor is the size and type of poodle you choose. Standard and miniature poodles cost more than toy or teacup varieties. The other major factor in setting the cost of a poodle is where it was bred and raised. Cost of Teacup, Toy, and Standard Sized Poodles The cost of poodles can vary greatly depending on their size and type. Teacup or toy poodles are particularly small, often weighing less than 4 pounds, while standard-sized poodles generally weigh between pounds. This difference in size results in a significant price discrepancy between the two types of dogs. It is important to note that aside from the purchase price itself, there will also be ongoing costs associated with owning any kind of pet such as food, veterinarian visits, grooming supplies — these are all things you should consider when budgeting how much it will cost to own an adorable puppy! Adoption vs Buying a Puppy Poodle Adoption vs Buying a Puppy Poodle is an important debate when it comes to choosing the right pet for your family. Adopting a poodle can be less expensive than buying one, but there are pros and cons to both options. Adoption is often the most cost-effective way of getting a poodle as many shelters have fixed fees or even waived adoption fees during special events. On the other hand, purchasing a puppy from a breeder means you will know exactly what type of parentage your pup has and its specific breed characteristics — this can be especially beneficial if you plan on entering your pup into shows or competitions later down the line. Some breeders also provide guarantees regarding the health of their puppies so you can rest assured knowing that if any issues arise within certain timelines then replacements might be available too. Show quality poodles require significant investment in both time and money. In addition to this initial fee, other costs should be taken into consideration including health testing fees for breeding stock such as eye exams and vet checkups prior to making any purchase decisions. Additionally, training classes may also be needed if you plan on showing your dog — often these classes are structured over an extended period of time which can add up quickly in terms of both cost and commitment. Investing in a show quality poodle is not something that should be taken lightly — with proper research and due diligence however it can be incredibly rewarding! After you initially purchase the pup, ongoing expenses are necessary to keep the dog healthy and happy throughout its life. Veterinary care is an essential cost for any pet owner and should not be overlooked when considering owning a poodle. Routine checkups, immunizations, parasite prevention treatments, medications and other veterinary services will need to be purchased from time to time in order to keep your pup safe and healthy. Food is another major expense when it comes to owning a poodle. Quality food should be provided in order for them to have proper nutrition throughout their life. Grooming costs must also be factored into the overall price of ownership as well since regular brushing, bathing and trimming of nails is required for this breed in particular due its long locks of fur which tend to tangle easily if not treated properly on occasion. .Professional grooming services might come with some additional fees but they offer convenience since all tasks are usually completed during one appointment instead of having multiple visits per session like what would happen doing it yourself or hiring someone privately on an hourly basis outside of these shops specialized in caring for these furry pals specifically. Before taking the plunge, one of my main concerns was the cost. So, after doing some research, I came up with several ways that I could save money on the cost of a poodle. The first thing I did was look into adoption centers in my area. Plus, adopting an animal not only helps you save money but also saves lives! Next, I talked to friends and family who already owned poodles or similar breeds. They were able to provide me with valuable advice on things like food type, veterinary care tips and even grooming requirements — all without costing me anything extra! Finally and perhaps most importantly , before making any big purchases for my new pup food bowls or toys… , I shopped around online for discounts or sales. This way, instead of paying full price at the pet store down the street, I saved quite a bit by looking around different stores and websites until finding just what we needed at an unbeatable deal. In conclusion, there are lots of easy ways to save money on the cost of owning a poodle if you know where to look and who to talk too. By following these simple steps myself and researching beforehand ,I found that not only did having one fit within our budget but ultimately enabled us both more quality time together as well! Toys: Teething is unavoidable for young pups, and restlessness can lead to destructive behavior. These toys are a great approach to alleviating these concerns while keeping your dog happy. Furthermore, deworming is a crucial step in keeping healthy pups. Because of their great intelligence and the joy they take in human companionship, Poodles excel in performance events of all sorts. They are extremely affectionate with children. In 18th and 19th century Europe, the Poodle served a wide variety of purposes, including duck hunting, guiding, and later circus performing, from whence the modern grooming style likely arose. The Poodle became a popular pet for the French aristocracy, and in time was officially adopted as the national dog. Poodles were imported to America in the 20th century. The origins of the poodles are still discussed with a dispute over whether the poodle descends from the old French Barbet breed or from Germany as a type of water dog.
Females Who ever you choose, will love you. Here at Hillside Standard Poodles we offer both male and female Standard Poodle puppies in a variety of colors. All Poodles bought from Hillside Standard Poodles are sold with spayed or neutered contracts. You've asked many questions and seen how the puppies are raised, you've met the breeder and the parents of the puppies and you're ready to make your choice. Your pick should be based on a matching personality with the puppy in question. How does the puppy react to you and your family, and kids? The sex of the puppy should be your last consideration. Most people have a huge misconception on sexes and personalities. Most feel a female is a sweet, loving dog who is a caretaker of puppies and children. Female dogs are nice; I like my girls and I'm pretty sure they like me. They come to me and get attention, and then they move away and are content to lie on the other side of the room. Perhaps this matches your personality perfectly -- maybe you want a dog that isn't overly affectionate. Girls take training seriously, and most are very good at obedience. Females can be alpha dogs just as easily as a male can. Spayed females, of course, make a much better family pet than un-spayed females do. Boys tend to get a bad rap because, in your mind, you remember the neighbor's disgusting unaltered male dog lifting his leg on every bush in the neighborhood and doing nasty "boy" things. Male dogs that are intended to be family pets NEED to be neutered at an early age 5 months old , however waiting a year is best. When you do YOUR part, you have an absolutely wonderful family member. They usually squat to piddle, never develop any type of nasty habit and are extremely loving dogs. Where your girls will get their attention and go lie down, a boy will stay near you. He likes to be with his person, he likes to be loved on; he is "devoted" to you. Yes, he takes his training seriously. But then he likes to have FUN, he likes to play in the yard -- he doesn't like to take life too seriously all the time! So, before you choose a dog based on its sex only, consider the other elements. Are you the type of person who likes an independent dog, or one who prefers a dog that worships the ground you walk on? Of course there is the exception to every rule and the amount of time you spend with your puppy will make a huge difference in his or her personality. Our suggestion is to spend time with your potential choice at the breeder's, but don't ignore a potential 'perfect match' for you because it may not be the sex you originally sought! City skyline. At what age is a Poodle fully grown? Poodles are considered fully grown adults at two years old and tend to show emotional signs of maturity, like a calmer nature, around 18 months. At a year old, most Poodles will have reached their final height or very close to it. However, most Poodles will require a full two years to fill out their chest and reach their final weight. Image Source: Pexels How big should a 6-month-old Poodle be? A six-month-old male Poodle will weigh around 41 to 48 pounds, while a six-month-old female Poodle will weigh about 28 to 34 pounds. Both male and female Poodles at this age stand at around 18 to 22 inches tall, which for some Poodles is already their full adult height. Pro Tip: Check out this ultimate pet parent guide with 39 dog care tips on pet first aid kits, puppy-proofing practices, training, veterinary appointments, and more! How much bigger will my Poodle get? There are a few ways to assess how much bigger your Poodle will get. The first is age. If your Poodle is less than a year old, they still have significant growth left! If your Poodle is between one and two years old, they are likely still filling out a bit, but are probably at their adult height. Do they still look oversized next to their legs and body? If this is the case, they are probably still filling out as this is a classic puppy feature! A Poodle puppy will rarely grow larger than their bigger parent, so this will also give you an idea of their maximum size. What is the size of a full-grown Poodle? According to the American Kennel Club Official Poodle Standards , an adult male Poodle is 60 to 70 pounds while an adult female Poodle weighs between 40 and 50 pounds. By these standards, full-grown Poodles will be over 15 inches tall when measuring from the ground to the highest point of their shoulders while standing. Most Standard Poodles will stand between 18 and 24 inches tall. Smart lifestyle choices are essential in keeping your Poodle happy and healthy. The Veterinary Centers of America recommend a long walk, jog, or intense play to fulfill their daily exercise needs. Poodles were bred as retrievers and, as such, are keen on games involving retrieving like fetch. Many Poodles also enjoy swimming. Due to their full coats, Poodles can put on excess weight without their pet parents realizing it. Poodles are not overly prone to weight issues with a balanced diet, but their coat can disguise weight changes. Their full coats also require regular upkeep like brushing and combing every other day, professional grooming every six weeks or so, and watching for potential eye problems. Poodles are prone to weeping eyes and eye irritation from lashes or hair, so keeping their eye area free of long hair is ideal. As a purebred dog breed, Poodles are more susceptible to genetic health problems. Many of these genetic health problems can be screened for early on using DNA technology. These early screenings can help you and your veterinarian prevent and minimize health complications from these genetic diseases. A bove all else, regular veterinary care is the best way to make sure your Poodle stays healthy. Between health screenings, regular veterinary care, bloodwork, x-rays , dental cleanings , and more, your veterinarian is your best resource in caring for your precious Poodle puppy. Be aware, vet visits can quickly become expensive - especially when immediate treatment or surgery is needed for an emergency or illness. With many treatments and surgeries costing thousands of dollars, this can quickly put pet parents in a pinch should the worst happen to their pet. Poodles are larger dogs, which can also increase the price of treatment. This is where pet insurance comes in. Pet insurance reimburses you for out-of-pocket veterinary costs and provides a safety net should the worst happen to your Poodle. As purebred dogs, Poodles are more prone to genetic health problems, like bloat or hip dysplasia, which can quickly become expensive to treat. Final Considerations Poodle puppies grow into elegant, proud dogs who are true aristocrats of the dog kingdom. We know how much your Poodle pup means to you and that they deserve the best! The negative characteristics that male Poodles exhibit are: Trying to show dominance over other animals Tending to devote themselves to only one family member and ignore others Being rather demanding and taking up lots of attention Tending to weigh more and growing bigger than female poodles The Differences Between the Two Genders As previously discussed, there are countless differences between male and female Poodles. Males tend to be more dependent on their owners while acting more playful and friendly than girl Poodles. At the same time, girl Poodles tend to be smarter than boys and more self-reliant. Furthermore, male Poodles are more eager to please their family members and tend to act very affectionately. Girl poodles can be friendly and playful but less so than the boys. There are also differences in their size and weight. However, the height between the two genders does not really differ. The heights are nearly identical. At six months of age, a girl Poodle tends to weigh around 21 pounds, while a male poodle weighs 24 pounds. Both are at a height of about seven inches at this age. At one year of age, all Poodles reach a height of approximately 11 inches. At full growth, males and females reach about 17 inches in height. The males tend to weigh 57 pounds, while a female Poodle reaches only about 42 pounds when fully grown. Male Poodles may also favor one person in your family over others. Boy Poodles are easier to train because they love to please their owner. Girl Poodles might be more stubborn and challenging in terms of training. A Poodle puppy swims in pool. Some Poodles love water from puppyhood! Male poodles tend to get along well with other pets as well as children, as they are very playful. Boy Poodles generally do better with kids than females, which are more independent and somewhat less friendly. Nonetheless, either gender should work with kids, as both boys and girls can be playful and kind. Does Neutering Improve Poodle Behavior? Neutering a male dog or spaying a female dog does provide behavioral benefits. For instance, both boy and girl dogs are much less likely to run away from your home and begin looking to mate with other canines. Male dogs tend to hurt themselves, trying to jump over fences in order to spend time with a female in heat. By removing the testosterone hormone from your dog, the poodle is less likely to be aggressive , dominant, and stubborn. Dog bites are also much more likely to occur among unneutered dogs who are territorial. As such, neutering helps improve Poodle behavior. At the end of the day, the gender of your Poodle may not matter as much as its training and socialization. There are so many factors and considerations when choosing a puppy. Here we will take a look at the differences between male and female Poodles so that you can have a better idea as to which would be right for you. There has been controversy over their origin, as they are the national breed of France, but it is believed that they actually originated in Germany. Poodles are a long-lived breed with a lifespan of 10 to 18 years. They are medium to large-sized and range from 45 to 70 pounds in weight and 15 to 24 inches in height. Poodles bond very quickly with their human companions and are known for their intense loyalty. Poodles are water dogs, so you can expect them to have an affinity for it. They will thrive on exercise, activities, and learning new things. This breed rarely acts aggressive and is typically shy around strangers. They are not as demanding as some other high-energy and intelligent breeds and tend to do well indoors if their exercise needs are met and can make great dogs for apartments or houses with smaller yards. This does not mean a male Poodle will not love and adore his whole family, he may just favor one particular person. Male Poodles are often more affectionate than females and tend to be more eager to please. Because of this, they are typically easier to train as well. You may notice that males will seek out more attention and can be a bit more demanding of it than females are. Unaltered males can develop typical male dog habits such as marking their territory, showing dominance over other males, and humping, especially if they are not well trained. If you do not plan on breeding your male Poodle, it is highly recommended you get him neutered as soon as possible to prevent these unwanted behaviors. Training Poodles are very intelligent dogs and can be very easy to train. You will see a lot of Poodles as service dogs and therapy dogs for this reason. Males can be easier to train since they are typically more eager to please. As they are highly intelligent and energetic, it is best to be consistent with training and utilize positive reinforcement. You will want to keep training interesting and reward-based as they love to stimulate their brains. Dedicating time to train your Poodle will only grow your bond stronger. This agile and graceful dog will excel in activities such as water sports, agility, tracking, and obedience. As with any breed though, some health issues can occur. In Poodles, it is not uncommon to see luxating patellas, hip dysplasia , and several eye disorders, especially in older age. Caring for male and female Poodles is pretty standard. You will want to ensure they are getting their daily exercise and remain both mentally and physically stimulated. You will either need to be experienced at grooming their coats or have a professional groomer handy. You will want to be established with a reputable veterinarian for regular health check-ups, dental care, and any issue that may turn up. Poodles will require high-quality dog food that is age-appropriate. These dogs can expend a lot of energy, especially if you plan on involving them in sports or regular activities. Image Credit: Lucas Seijo, Shutterstock Breeding Male dogs typically become fertile starting around 6 months of age and will reach full sexual maturity within 12 to 15 months. Healthy unaltered males can remain fertile and continue breeding well into old age. If you are interested in becoming a breeder, having the knowledge and education to do so is very important. Regular health checks and careful breeding to ensure top-quality dogs are vital to the breed. If you are looking to get a male Poodle as a pet, it is best to look into neutering as soon as he becomes of age. Neutering can prevent many behavioral and health problems. It is best to discuss the process with your veterinarian and be prepared for the expense. The good news is that males are much less expensive to alter than females. Pros Affectionate and eager to please Loyal and loving More prone to stress and anxiety Can exhibit unwanted behaviors related to sexual maturity Female Poodle Overview Image Credit: Tubuna, Pixabay Personality Female Poodles tend to lean more toward the independent side. They do make wonderful companions but are typically not as loving and affectionate as their male counterparts. Females can keep more of a distance and may not enjoy being touched and snuggled like a male will. Surprisingly, they can be more territorial, protective, and wary of strangers. Unlike males, they tend to share their love and loyalty with the entire family rather than just one person. You can expect your female to display alpha behaviors and assert their dominance. If there are other dogs in the home, a female Poodle will most likely see herself as the boss and will not be shy about displaying her feelings. Training As mentioned, Poodles in general are extremely intelligent and easy to train. That being said, with females you may find that they are more difficult to train than males. Their independent dispositions, stubbornness, and need for dominance can make them more of a challenge. You will need to get to know your dog well to figure out a training regiment that works for both you and her. These graceful, athletic dogs will of course respond well to positive reinforcement and consistency. Like the males, females will also thrive in agility, obedience, water sports, and many other activities. If given the proper care and nutrition, you can expect your Poodle to live anywhere from 10 to 18 years. Females are susceptible to the same genetic health conditions that males are. A proper diet and daily exercise are essential for your Poodle to thrive. Females have the same grooming needs that males do, though you may want to primp them a bit with feminine accessories as some owners enjoy doing. Breeding Female Poodles can experience their first heat cycle as young as 6 months of age. She can become pregnant as soon as she has her first heat cycle but if you plan on breeding, she should be at least 2 years old before she is bred. Some unaltered females will continue having heat cycles their entire lives, while others will have their heat cycles slow down significantly or even stop as they age. It is highly recommended to never breed a female that is older than 6 years of age. When a female is retired from breeding, she should be spayed immediately to prevent any accidental pregnancies. As with males, if you plan on having your female Poodle as a pet only, it is best to get her spayed as soon as she is of age and preferably before the first heat cycle. Spaying a female is great for their health, as older unaltered females can experience mammary tumors, female cancers, and uterine infections. If you are not a reputable breeder, spaying is the best option. Prices will vary depending on the breeder but there is generally no price difference between males and females. It is important to find a reputable Poodle breeder and avoid any backyard breeders or puppy mills for both ethical reasons and the sake of the breed. Rescuing is a great option to consider as well. You can search your area for a Poodle rescue and can get matched with the perfect dog for you. Rescues typically come fully vetted and at a much lower cost. Male Poodles tend to be more playful, lovable, and trusting. They are more likely to be better at getting along with other dogs and household pets. Because females are more independent and like to assert their dominance, they may be less likely to tolerate other pets. Regardless of sex, early socialization and training are essential for your dog. This will help ensure they know what is expected of them as your companion and can thrive in your home. Properly and cautiously introducing your dog to other dogs and animals at a young age will help interactions be much more successful. Now it is time for you to decide which sex will work best for you. As you now know, male and female Poodles have some pretty significant differences. Keep in mind that each dog is different and when you bring a puppy home, their training and socialization can truly help shape them into the dog they become. Both male and female Poodles have some wonderful traits and in the right environment, can make wonderful pets. Another interesting read:. You have done your research and found the right breeder. One question you are likely to be asked is are you looking for a male puppy or female? This could lead you to ask what is the difference between the two? Male poodles are more affectionate, playful, and easier to train due to their intense desire to please their owners. Female poodles tend to be more independent, stubborn, and willful than their male poodle counterparts. However, with poodles, it can often be the males that are more affectionate and loving and the females that are more dominant and challenging of authority. However, it is essential to spend time with any puppy to ensure its personality is right for you. Despite the regal appearance you often see in highly groomed poodles , they often have a very goofy streak. They love to play games of any kind. They are also fond of people and like to please those they have bonded to. These character traits combine to make a dog that is easily trained. It can also make them excitable. A well-trained and exercised poodle will have a calm disposition, as long as the exercise is enough to burn off the naturally high levels of energy that poodles have. It is a debate whether the smaller toy and miniature poodles are more high-strung or the larger standard size. Their high energy levels lead them to be naturally athletic. Combined with their intelligence, poodles often do well in agility competitions. Poodles are protective of home and family. They will often bark when strangers approach your house. They can be standoffish with strangers, taking a while to warm up. However, they are warm and loving with their family members. They learn fast, both good and bad habits, so it is essential to be careful about what you are training them to do. Many of these behaviors have to do with exerting dominance and marking territory. Male poodles are not different. Male poodles NEED to be neutered by age 5 months to ensure they do not engage in these typical male territorial behaviors. Male poodles are more dependent on their owners. They will often bond with one person and not the entire family. They will love the family, but they will choose one family member they prefer. They can be more sensitive to stress and are more empathetic. Because of this empathetic bond, some poodles have been trained as service dogs. Male poodles are often more affectionate, playful, and easier to train, including housebreaking. This is often due to their increased desire to please their owners. They are very attentive and can be quite demanding of attention if you do not give them enough. Many breeders prefer owning male poodles as pets and will often miss the boys from the litters after they are sold. Female Poodle Behaviors Female poodles tend to be more independent. They are cute, smart, and affectionate, but not nearly as much as a male typically. Female poodles can be more distant, typically seek less attention. They often want to be near people, but not necessarily touching them, unlike male dogs. Female dogs can also be more territorial and protective. It is vital to make sure strangers are introduced carefully. Female dogs often share their loyalty with the whole family. They are less prone to stress about significant life events, such as a new baby in the family or moving. However, they are also often more stubborn and willful. They can care less about people-pleasing if they have decided they want something. Female poodles can display alpha behaviors if they are not spayed. Some female poodles will also try and dominant their owners. They can stubbornly resist obedience training. They are often more like a friend you spend time with but are not affectionate with. Poodles as Working Dogs When you look at the smaller sizes, it may be hard to believe, but poodles were originally bred as hunters. Their innate athletic abilities come from this breeding still today. Because they are energetic, lovable, intelligent, and highly trainable, poodles have been used in a wide array of jobs, from circus performers to hunting retriever dogs. Their loyalty has led to standard poodles being used as military and police dogs. When put with other trained dogs, they are often able to learn what is expected by learning from watching the other dogs. This means they can be quickly trained in a variety of settings. Poodles have been used as service dogs for the disabled and as therapy dogs. They seem to be empathetic and can sense their owners sometimes need before the owner does. Working Male Poodles Male poodles have been many traits that can make them excellent service dogs. They do not see it as a job, but as taking care of the person they are bonded to. This can help decrease isolation and depressed mood. It will also keep the person busy and give them a purpose. Working Female Poodles Female poodles often make excellent therapy dogs because they are able to go into high-stress environments and not be overwhelmed. They often do not become stressed out like male dogs when they are around chronic illness, patients in pain, and almost any therapy job you can imagine. Because they tend to bond to groups, they can also interact better with a larger number of people than a male poodle. Choosing a Poodle Puppy When selecting a puppy, you need to not make a decision based just on the sex of the puppy, but on its personality. Taking time with the puppy while it is still with its litter can help you see how they interact with their littermates, mother, and breeder. A puppy that sits off to the side by itself is likely to be more reserved regardless of its sex, while one that bounds out to meet you is likely going to be boisterous and attention-seeking. Observe the physical condition of the entire litter, but also more closely exam the puppy you are considering. The nose should be cold and wet, but not running. The puppy should have clean ears with no odor, straight teeth, and not over or underbite. Seeing their living area can help you determine if they have been well cared for. Is the bedding clean and sanitary? Puppies that have been raised in clean environments are typically healthier and easier to potty train. This can be important if you choose a female puppy that might be more resistant to training, especially if raised in dirty living conditions. A great behavioral training course can really help your resistant poodle to potty train more easily. I found a fantastic video training system called Brain Training for Dogs. With this training, I was able to easily potty train my dog Angus. I really loved the online community where I could communicate with other dog owners to get training ideas or help with the whole training process. This is an awesome program and crazy inexpensive! Check it out here to see more detailed information. Cost of Male and Female Poodles Poodles are often one of the more expensive purebred dogs. Typically the purchase price is about the same for males and females. Females may cost slightly more if they come already spayed because the cost of spaying is often more than getting a male dog neutered. When purchasing an unaltered puppy, the cost is usually the same. Just remember to get the puppy spayed or neuter by months old to help prevent dominant behaviors. Be prepared that the spay costs will be higher. I wrote this article on why Poodles are so expensive. Children and Poodles Poodle, both males, and females can be a wonderful companions for children. Care needs to be taken with Toy Poodles as they are the smallest, most delicate variety of the breed. Children can easily break one of their bones or seriously injure them without meaning to if they are not properly supervised. Children need to be taught how to approach and interact with all dogs, but especially one that is in your home. Children should be taught to never approach a dog that is eating or sleeping. Children should never be left unsupervised with a dog, no matter how friendly. Even the nicest dog can bite if they are injured bad enough or in enough pain. Small children often do not mean to harm the dog, they just have not fully learned how to interact. Important Considerations in Choosing a Male or Female Poodle When buying a poodle, there are several things you need to consider besides just the sex of the puppy. Even though on average, males and females do show some differences in personality, they all have particular care needs. Poodles that are not properly trained will often come to believe they are the alpha dog of the family. The smaller the dog, the more likely this is will occur. By teaching your dog obedience skills and manners, you are showing them that you are the leader of the pack, the alpha dog. Remember, this is especially true of females poodles who tend to exert dominance more than males. A bored poodle creates an unhappy owner. Poodles must be kept active both physically and mentally. Obedience training, agility training, playing games can all help keep your poodle happy, healthy, and prevent them from finding destructive or mischievous ways to entertain themselves. This is true, regardless of the sex of the dog. Boys do tend to be more focused on their owners. But even the most affectionate male will get bored while you are at work. Owning a poodle is a commitment of time or money to meet their grooming needs. Most poodle owners have their dogs professionally groomed every three to six weeks. Poodles have coats that require lots of upkeep to stay beautiful and healthy. Some people learn to groom their dogs. Although this saves money, it can be very time-consuming. Poodles can have weepy eyes that resulted in stained hair surrounding their eyes and face. To help with this, their faces can be gently wiped down daily with pet wipes or a washcloth dipped in warm water. Poodles can be prone to specific health and temperament problems. Always buy your poodle, or any dog, from a reputable breeder. They will test for genetic diseases and check for temperament problems prior to putting any puppy for sale. Final Thoughts Poodles are extremely intelligent dogs that can be a great addition to any family. With proper care and training, they can add love, laughter, and fun. Males and female poodles are easy to train, protective, and enjoy interacting with people. In many ways, they are more alike than different. However, it is crucial to know the differences to make sure you purchase the right puppy for you. Male poodles tend to be more docile, affectionate, and loyal to one family member. Female poodles can exhibit more dominance, be faithful to the family, and be more stubborn. However, these statements are generalizations and not right for each specific male and female. When choosing a puppy, it is important to spend time with the puppy to truly determine its personality. Using sex can be a starting guideline, but your final decision should be based more on the individual traits of the puppy. I hope you found it helpful. F2 — Cross between two F1 Labradoodles: This breed is almost the same as F1, more likely to shed hairs, and hence, not much suitable for allergetic people. F3 — Cross between two F2 Labradoodles. Multi-generation — Like the common crossbreed Australian Labradoodles, this is a cross between two F3 or higher generation Labradoodles. Temperament and Behavior This inherently intelligent, compassionate and tolerant dog, good with children and other pets, apt for an apartment life, need less space to live. They love water, playing in the bathtub or bathroom, engaging in water sports, and need some good training from puppyhood. Being a loyal, affectionate and friendly breed, they love playing with their owner and the family, making an ideal family pet, interacting with people of all ages and being adaptable to any setting. Although some first generation labradoodles would need even more exercise to stay fit. Grooming Be sure brushing them daily to avoid coat-entangling and shedding, which depends upon their bloodlines. Yet, since poodles are now a common breed in France, they have since become the national pet. Nonetheless, poodles are now a favorite among families and children. Dogs have always been perfect human companions. So it is still a good idea to keep a poodle. It is also a good idea to distinguish the type of poodles about their characteristics and colors. Characteristics of A Poodle The shoulder height of a standard poodle is usually around inches while its weight would be approximately 20 — 30 kilograms. In the United States, poodles are recognized by three sizes which are the tiny, standard and toy. Types of Poodle colors Poodles are known to be solid colored dogs, and these are actually a popular choice among breeders. They usually come in solid colors like black, white, red, apricot, brown, silver, grey, silver-beige and even some that come with unique spots or marks. Yet, there are also poodles that come with a mix of different colors which are identified as mismark, tuxedo and parti-colored poodles and these are usually special breeds that are now being recognized in dog shows and exhibitions and even canine registries. It is important, however, as a breeder to know and identify these types of dogs and which of these are recognized in significant dog registries. Mismark Poodles These poodles are also known as abstract poodles by a few breeders. A mismark poodle is usually mistaken to be parti-colored or tuxedo poodles because of their similarities. In short, majority of their coat is solid and with slight white patches. It is important for breeders to identify them as mismark and not parti-colored or tuxedo poodles. Tuxedo Poodles These types of poodles usually have special markings in some parts of their body which resembles a tuxedo. If you are breeding these species of dogs, the markings are usually seen to be a white colored belly. The dark colors can be dark blue and white or red and white. Parti-colored Poodles These type of poodles have been known to history to be the original color of poodles. These poodles have a larger area of their body to be covered with a white base coat and the remaining patches of random solid color, and is black, which surrounds their body. Some spots of black color may even appear on their paws and legs. When breeding, it is important to remember that to get a parti-colored poodle; two parti-colored dogs should be paired and mated to get the expected results. It is often a joy for most breeders because of the lovely colored patterns that these poodles possess. Some partis, however, may have small spots which are black as expected. Health Issues in Poodles It is necessary for any dog breeder to be aware of the kinds of health issues that their dogs may encounter. Like any other dogs, poodles have a significant list of health concerns that have since been reported in dog registries. Yes, even poodles are susceptible to these kinds of conditions, so it is best to take good care of your dogs and make sure that their medical records are up to date. This means that regular vet visits should be scheduled and accomplished for the poodle, with complete vaccines and relevant shots. A minor issue that is common to poodles is the ear infection. Poodles can also contract eye problems like cataracts because of the density of their fur around their face and head. Outdoor Activities and Training Since poodles are intelligent creatures, training is not a challenging task for most breeders. They are quick to understand what is expected of them. Poodles are companion dogs, and they usually need a right amount of exercise and outdoor activities. They often need companionship and would usually get rowdy when left alone indoors for a long time. Shop All Cat Food Growing dogs need plenty of food and your veterinarian may tell you to feed a new puppy a few times a day. However, what about when your dog gets older? You might wonder, "how often should I feed my dog," or "how much should my dog eat? Nourishing a Puppy Since puppies grow quickly, they need to eat highly nutritious food and they need it often. Since they tend to burn so much energy, you'll start out feeding your puppy frequently, then slowly wean them down to less regular feedings. This process will help them grow big and strong. A quality puppy food contains optimal amounts of protein, DHA, and vitamins to keep your puppy growing at appropriate rates. For puppies, four feedings a day are recommended for ages six to twelve weeks. It's also a good idea to start puppies with moistened food to help them chew. You will see your puppy start to mature during this phase — their baby potbelly and pudginess will start to disappear. Its recommended to feed them puppy-sized portions until you see signs that their body is maturing. Keep in mind that after your dog is neutered, their energy level may decrease, so it may be a good time to switch from nutrient-rich puppy food to adult food. While you should always check with your vet about your puppies specific growth, typically smaller breeds should transition to adult food at months, while larger breeds may take a little longer — 12—14 months or even longer. Bigger breeds should continue on puppy food longer, up to 14 months. Not sure what your dog needs? It's also good to make the switch to adult food over a period of a few days. Too abrupt of a change may cause stomach problems for your pooch. To transition between foods , mix your dog's current food while gradually increasing to their new food. Over the course of a week, gradually decrease the amount of the current dog food while increasing the amount of new dog food for a safe and comfortable transition. As with anything that plays a pivotal role in your dog's overall health and development, talk to your veterinarian about proper feeding regiments. While dog food bags and cans will often provide feeding instructions on the packaging, feeding habits can vary from dog to dog based on breed, weight, health conditions and more. Your vet will be able to provide you the best recommendation to the sized proportions you should be feeding your pup to help set themup healthy growth. Feeding an Adult Dog Once your dog is fully grown, you need to make sure you're feeding dog food that keeps them healthy and fit, so that they avoid developing health issues. Food type and portion size should be tailored to breed, size, and lifestyle. Again, this is a good conversation to have with your veterinarian to ensure they receive adequate nutrition. Years 1 to 7 Most owners feed adult dogs two half-portions a day. How much is that? It depends on your dog. Measure food, rather than eye-balling it, to make sure your dog is getting the right amount each day. Keep an eye on your dog for signs of weight gain, and cut down on food if necessary under the supervision of your vet. Some of the signs your dog is overweight include not being able to feel their ribs, loss of a discernible waist, pads of fat over the hips and base of the tail and a waddling gait. Dogs should eat at regular times, usually once in the morning and once in the evening — the key is consistency. Also, keep in mind that the type of food you choose is important. If you have a more sedentary dog, consider a food that matches their lifestyle to ensure they still get the right nutrients without causing weight gain. You have to remember dogs age more quickly than people do, so major health changes occur much earlier in life. Choose a food, like Science Diet Senior foods, formulated with ingredients to support brain function, energy, a healthy immune and digestive system and a luxurious coat. Food formulated for aging pets also takes into consideration that they have likely slowed down — this includes their metabolism. Dog foods like Senior Vitality help give your older pup the right amount of calories, while including additional nutrients to help them get that youthful spirit back. Caring for a Senior Your dog has officially made it over the hill of middle age. With seniority your dog is changing, so make sure you're keeping an eye on their nutrition and health, and consult your vet to see if you should switch to a senior dog food. Larger breed dogs may reach seniority sooner than smaller breeds, so it is important to ask your vet when your pooch has reached this phase. For instance, your shih tzu might still be barreling around the house at eleven, but your golden retriever might be slowing down by age seven. It might be around this time that you'll want to cut back on food to avoid the weight gain that comes with less activity. You should also watch senior dogs for signs of weight loss, which can be a sign of health issues, like dental problems. Continue with twice a day feedings. Your dog may appreciate the routine. If you see changes to your dog's weight or eating habits, talk to your vet. Feeding your dog the right amount of high-quality dog food through each step of their life will go a long way to keeping your four-legged friend healthy. Just as eating amounts vary from person to person, eating amounts vary from dog to dog, which is why consulting your vet is the best place to start. Keep in mind the above age ranges and information are just guidelines. Health issues might age your dog faster, or they could remain vital well into their senior years. Monitoring your dog's health, choosing high-quality dog food for every life stage, and keeping an open dialogue with your vet will help you answer how much to feed your dog and make the best choices to nourish your furry friend through puppyhood and into his golden years.
