My puppy opened his eyes around 2 weeks old and started walking around 3 weeks old. Fast forward to now, he is 6 weeks old tomorrow. When we saw a video of him walking at 3 weeks old, he seemed to have some weakness in his back legs but we passed it off as normal because he had only just started trying to walk. His siblings seem to have some leg issues too. Another pup in the same video had one leg that seemed to go out to the side, as if stretching. They walk on wooden floor and the grass outside. They are being weaned onto puppy food and are drinking from a bowl etc. Everything else with my puppy is fine, his eating and drinking habits, his toiletry habits etc. They are all booked in to see the vet on Monday and then I am viewing my pup on Tuesday. Reasons a English Bulldog puppy might die early on are usually due to difficult whelping, congenital or genetic defects, environmental factors i. Things to have handy in case of an emergency: a box of Amoxi-Drops anti-diarrhea medication like Biosol, Kaolin-Pectin, or Neo-Pectilin thermometer Karo syrup or honey tube feeding kit 10 feeding tube and 10cc feeding syringe several cans of puppy formula like Esbilac; however, it is very important that a English Bulldog puppy get its mother's milk if at all possible during the first 5 days to protect it from infection and give it antibodies from the mother's milk You can purchase pre-made formula from your vet and outside of the mother's milk, it is best. However, the following formula is cheaper and provides all the nutrition. It's been used by many people and gives good results: l can Carnation evaporated milk some prefer canned goat's milk. Many use it instead of evaporated milk - both can be found in the bakery section of your grocery store. If this seems to be, change to bottled water to make the formula. Keeping the litter box tempature between degrees with no drafts for the first few days is usually adequate. Other sources of warmth can be heating pads or heat lamps. If using a heating pad, monitor the intensity of heat, as pups have been known to cook on pads set on high settings! There are many excellent heat lamps on the market, but remember that caution is needed. Heat lamps have been known to start fires! The temperature on the English Bulldog puppies 1 inch above the bottom of the box should be about degrees with a corner that is slightly cooler and allow them to scoot to wherever they like best. There should also be plenty of clean blankets, as this will allow for regulation of temperature. If a English Bulldog puppy has its mouth open, it's too hot. If a English Bulldog puppy is too cool, it often won't show anything - but it can be deadly. Hydration is one of the most important things to monitor in new bulldog pups, as it can be one of the first signs of problems. Check hydration by by pinching the skin on the back of the neck or on the top of the back. If the pinched skin stays creased, the English Bulldog puppy is dehydrated and needs fluid replacement. Also, a dehydrated bulldog pup's coat will sometimes have a ruffled or scruffy appearance. Dehydration can either be a result of inadequate nourishment, too much heat, or sickness. It is strongly suggested that you use regular newborn or infant bottles and nipples. The ones available for purchase for cats, dogs, ferrets, etc. Bottle feeding is far more preferable. The sucking on a nipple, the handling and holding of the English Bulldog puppy is so very important to their overall development. The English Bulldog puppy should be held with his head upwards and his body and tail down in a 45 to 90 degreee angle when bottle feeding. If English Bulldog puppies and their blankets are not kept clean, it is very easy to come down with a staph infection and diarrhea - which is serious, as bulldog puppies can go downhill quickly. As mentioned before, it is equally serious if the English Bulldog puppies get chilled so avoid drafts. Even if you have them in a basket with a heating pad, you need to cover the basket with a towel to keep out drafts. A chilled English Bulldog puppy must be warmed up. Put it in a pocket so that it's warm and jiggled as you walk around, or if you are a woman put it in your bra for your body heat. There are lots of little ways to accomplish it. Don't worry about feeding formula to a chilled English Bulldog puppy because it will have the opposite effect: their body cannot handle the food and makes it all the worse for the English Bulldog puppy. Priority should be to get the bulldog puppy warmed up slowly. Newborn English Bulldog puppies cannot regulate their body temperature or body functions like urinating and stools. It is important that they are pottied at each feeding. They might not have a stool each time, but they will urinate. This is what the mother does when she licks them. But some mothers don't want to be bothered, especially the first few days. After that, she will become a good mommy. Some might start off being good, then after a few days, or even a couple of weeks, not want to be bothered and might even be nasty to the puppies such as snapping and biting them. Always be careful and watch. Don't leave her alone until the bulldog pups are big enough not to be laid on, or big enough that you know that the bitch is a good mother. If the mother will not clean the babies, you must be sure to do it. Using a kleenex, gently rub the area to stimulate their potty. Then be sure to clean them well. Make sure to check them even if the mother cleans them. Often the stool will get stuck to the tail and be dry. If that happens, or if the English Bulldog puppy seems to be straining and constipated, try the following: Run warm water in the sink slowly. Put a drop of soap on their behinds, and wash and massage their behinds; it will get the tail and poop unstuck, clean them up, and cause them to potty very well. Make sure they are well rinsed, and dried thoroughly so they don't get chilled. If the little bottoms are red and sore, use some Desitin ointment. You may see green puppy stools and stools that have an appearance of bunches of tiny seeds. If all else seems normal, this seems to be harmless and short-lived. However, watery diarrhea can be very serious if left unchecked. There can be many causes, like the mother's diet, or infection. Diarrhea together with vomiting usually means infection. For the first 3- 5 days an average English Bulldog puppy ouncer will take about 10 cc's every hours. It should be broken into feedings every 2 hours 5cc per feeding. This is because even pups from the same litter can differ considerably in the type of coat they sport, with some inheriting that of the Labrador and others of the Poodle. Fortunately, you can tell the more allergy-friendly ones based on their generation. In fact, Labradoodles can be classified according to generations. These include: F1 Labradoodle 1st Generation This is a first-generation Labradoodle, and it is the result of crossing a Labrador with a Poodle. As such, F1 Labradoodle pups can sport two different coats, depending on which parent they take after the most. The first is a fleece coat with a soft feel, while the other is a flat coat with a wiry feel. As such, both coats have a different rate of shedding. Despite their differences, none of either coat has been found to be allergy-friendly. Therefore, when looking for a Labradoodle, first ask whether it is an F1. If so, avoid it. Therefore, F1B Labradoodles are the best option for people who are severely allergic to pet dander. Nonetheless, you need to confirm that your F1B Labradoodle was bred in this way, as some breeders will mate two first-generation Labradoodles and offer their offspring as 2nd generation Labradoodles. However, true 3rd generation Labradoodles tend to be extremely rare. Living with a Labradoodle and allergies Even the most allergy-friendly Labradoodle sheds more frequently than the Poodle does. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to reduce the amount of dander from both your pet, as well as your home. These include: 1. Regular Grooming Regular grooming is one of the best ways of making your Labradoodle more hypoallergenic. It gets rid of dander, dust, and pollen, which are the main causes of the allergic reactions that some people have to pet hair. Directly touching the animal is one of the obvious ones, but the dander can also be transmitted through the fur. Sometimes you might also breathe it in, which will usually result in reactions such as coughing and wheezing in from your lungs. There are also times where direct contact of the dander with skin can lead to rashes and general itchiness. One of the most typical symptoms, is itchiness to the eyes, runny or stuffy noses, and the occasional inflammation. Perhaps you already know that you suffer from allergies, but you might also discover or develop them after years of living with your pet. Sometimes allergies can just develop, and conversely, they might disappear altogether as well. All in all, while being allergic to animals is obviously not the most pleasant of experiences, no matter the level of severity you may face, but if you absolutely love your pets, it can be made a lot easier to live with. Someone who has severe allergies should perhaps reconsider before getting this type of breed. For others with less severe allergies, they may be willing to live with them in exchange for being able to get their favorite breed. No matter if you are planning on getting a Labradoodle or perhaps you already have and only recently discovered your allergies, there are still several things that you can do in order to make it a lot more manageable and create a great home for both you and your Doodle. Keep your Labradoodle Well-Groomed Labradoodles shed quite a bit, but if they are kept well-groomed this can be somewhat controlled. If not, try asking a non-allergic friend or family member if they might be willing to help you. You should generally brush a Labradoodle once a day if possible, and on top of that, do a thorough brushing at least twice a week. You should also give your dog regular baths. How often can vary, but the more often the better. Bathing your Labradoodle will get rid of the dander and old skin cells and keeps those from flying out around your house. Using a great shampoo such as this one from Buddy Wash and keeping their coat healthy can greatly reduce the shedding as well. Dry fur will shed more, so a clean and well-groomed dog will not leave as much fur and dander around. But remember that even a well-groomed Labradoodle can cause allergies, so there are a few other things that you should also consider doing to reduce any issues that you might have. Use Air Cleaners There are numerous different types of air filters and purifiers widely available. You can also get some vacuums that have HEPA filters, which is quite good for vacuuming places where dander and pet fur may have built up. As stated earlier, keeping the air of your home clean is very important because pet dander will be all over the house, and you will definitely breathe it in, causing allergic reactions and discomfort. Having a Labradoodle and carpet is pretty much just asking for a floor full of dander. If you do this it can help keep your everyday clothes, such as what you usually wear to work, practically dander free. You should also be careful when putting things in the wash. You can also just take things to the dry-cleaners if you want to pay for that, or just vacuum, or shake them firmly in order to help stop that from happening. With Labradoodles, it will be quite difficult to avoid getting fur on even your non-pet clothes, but if you keep your things as separate as possible it can prove very helpful and even reduce your allergy issues by just a bit. You should know that after playing with a dog, a simple hand sanitizer might not always be enough. Fully cleaning your hands with soap and warm water will go a long way to preventing any allergic reactions. When you shower, you should also thoroughly rinse and scrub down as well. If you allow your Labradoodle to roam all over the house wherever he wants to, then fur and dander are going to be everywhere as well. There are many ways to train a dog but as with pretty much every single breed, a Labradoodle reacts best to training by positive reinforcement. But no matter what method you end up using, at least it will be excellent to have a place where you can sleep comfortably without having to suffer through symptoms of allergy. Crate-training your dog can be beneficial as well because it can help keep the dander to a more contained area. There are medicines that can help to reduce a runny nose, a rash, itchy eyes, and a lot of other things that your dog might cause you. But as with all medicines, you should be careful, as they all come with their own side effects, and you might end up being immune to them. If you want to try and attack more than just the allergy symptoms, there are options such as allergy shots that can help. These allergy shots are also known as immunotherapy, and they work by giving you a small dose of the allergy. You start going a few times a week, which will then gradually spread out over time as you are able to build up immunity. As with all medications, you should always contact doctors or other medical professionals before making decisions about any shots or medicine to handle your allergies. What Generation of Labradoodle Is Best for Allergies The F1B generation of Labradoodle, which is a cross between a Labradoodle and a Poodle, is considered to be the best option for those with allergies due to the fact that they are less likely to shed and produce less dander. And while there are some animals that can handle living outside, Labradoodles are the best for that option. While Labradoodles are highly active dogs that do enjoy spending a lot of time outside, they are also extremely social dogs.
