I happened to be surfing the net when I came across your website. In those days anything animated and live on air had to be as simple as possible. I remember the large animated drawing cards with 'pull' and 'slide' instructions and would play with them when he returned home from the BBC studios. These 'animated' cartoons would take all week between programmes to produce along with the story line. The drawings were done in vision live and the narrative read by Mary Malcolm or Sylvia Peters. Apart from drawing 'Bengo' followed by 'Bleep and Booster' in the late '50's early '60's my uncle had strip cartoons syndicated all over the world. In this country there was the character called 'Humphrey' who appeared in the magazine 'Woman'. He was in great demand for his lifelike portraits and sculptures of animals and had many commissions including the Gorillas and Rhinos of Sir John Aspinal at Howlett's and Port Lympne, Lord Londonderry's bulldogs, an over life-size sculpture of two fighting Jaguars for Kerry Packer in Australia and Zoos in America. He even designed the TVT award 'oscar' presented each year to deserving television personalities and produced drawings or characatures for various covers for both the Radio and TV Times. The list goes on. He was then asked to sculpt Peter Purvis' dog 'Petra', this was shown on the programme through its various processes, as was the over life-size sculpture of 'Guy' the Gorilla commissioned by the London Zoo and filmed by Blue Peter as a special programme. He also had commissions for humans and his sculpture of Sir Malcolm Sergeant, commissioned by the Promenaders, stands on one of the sweeping staircases at the entrance to the Albert Hall; and a bust of Sir Francis Chichester is part of a display on the 'Gypsy Moth'. He was asked to sculpt a portrait of H. The Queen Mother but he felt that a medium such as bronze could not do justice to Her Majesty and therefore declined. My uncle loved animals and because of the lifelike quality he managed to instill into his pieces was asked to give interviews on various TV networks, he was also invited to a lunch hosted by Princess Margaret and Prince Philip on a World Wildlife Fund function when he sat next to Her Royal Highness who showed great interest in the 'lost wax' process. His collection of bronzes and drawings still stand as a lasting tribute to a very talented man who was presented with the MBE at the age of 87 by the Queen, in recognition of his work for the World Wildlife Fund, just two years before his death in .He fled from the Nazis in the s, ending up safely in Britain, and continued his artistic career drawing cartoons for several magazines. Bengo made his first television appearance in June .A feeling of movement was created as the camera panned across the drawings, while strings mounted to a few of the drawings caused mouths to open or paws to wave. After a while, announcer Sylvia Peters took over the speaking role. Bengo was so adored that Wade decided to model him with a few of his friends as small porcelain figurines. They are amongst the most delightful figures ever produced by Wade, slightly bigger than Whimsies, with Bengo being 2 inches high. Bengo is probably the easiest to find, a standing puppy with a friendly face. At the other end of the range, Bruno Junior Saint Bernard , Droopy basset hound , Percy afghan and Whisky corgi are harder to find, certainly boxed. Also in the series were Chee-Chee pekinese and Pepi chihuahua. Clever packaging was used to complement the dogs, with each being sold in a television-shaped box in shades of yellow, green or orange. My favourite, though, of all the Wade Bengo pieces, is the large Bengo moneybox, a model of the pup seated on a cushion in his basket, and standing 6 inches tall. Pelham Puppets introduced a model of Bengo into their range of string puppets and he continued to be made for many years. This puppet Bengo is easily found today in both the early solid body version and a later hollow body type. Presumably intended for infants, these all-in-one moulded rubber toys were about 5 inches high, with a very loud squeak and were packed in polybags. Extremely difficult to find nowadays, these are something for Bengo collectors to keep an eye out for, but no doubt the majority soon perished after being chewed by infants! Recently I came across a charming badge featuring the head of Bengo, made from gold-coloured plastic. Bengo books add another dimension to a collection of items featuring the charming Boxer puppy. His most famous sculpture is the massive bronze of Guy the gorilla, erected in at London Zoo, which is invariably being hugged by small children whenever I visit! He also produced delightful paintings, and worked on cartoons for several publications. Bengo seems to be finding more and more fans, even amongst those who are too young to remember his television appearances, and there have been rumours of an animated series being made. Mini Goldendoodles have an average size range of from 13 to 17 inches The Standard Goldendoodle have a size range of 17 and 20 inches. Mini Goldendoodles tend to weigh between 15 and 35 pounds Standard Goldendoodles will usually weigh between 15 and 35 pounds. Mini Goldendoodles could be more adept at apartment-living or city life considering their smaller size, especially if owners have limited space in a high rise or townhome. Willow is about 25lbs and is a pretty average size. We know a few Mini Goldendoodles that are in the low 30s and I believe they can go up to 35lbs. But it really depend on the dog. They require a lot of grooming to avoid mats. I brush my dog regularly and send him to the groomer every 6 weeks max to avoid him to be shaved. These small dogs are portable and versatile, so they can easily fit in a dedicated dog carrier or backpack, a doggie carseat and in a travel crate. Modern films have long showcased the caring, loving and loyal nature of the Golden Retriever. The Mini Goldendoodle may also inherit some of these traits, although their small size requires parents to educate their children on how to respectfully interact and play with these dogs. They are extremely family-friendly dogs. They love humans and pets alike. Many Mini Goldendoodle owners will take their dog to a groomer every few months for a trim — too. Mini Goldendoodles are a hypoallergenic breed. I am allergic to dogs as are my parents and none of us have any reaction to Willow. We have Willow groomed every 5 weeks. Price Mini Goldendoodles are often dubbed an example of a designer breed — so you can probably get the hint that these dogs are expensive to buy. Their cost fluctuate depending on the breeder, coat color , generation and size. The offspring of two active dog breeds traditionally used to hunt water fowl, Mini Goldendoodles will require a lot of exercise. We walk him and get him to the park as much as possible or he is a complete terror at night. Separation anxiety Separation anxiety can affect any dog irrespective of breed or mix. With their dog at home alone, their separation anxiety rises to the surface in a variety of possible ways. They may bark, howl or whine, they could resort to destructive behaviours such as chewing and digging, or in some extreme cases, do their business inside the home. Mini Goldendoodles are prone to separation anxiety, although every dog is different. I would say it depend on the dog. Barking Poodles are sometimes dubbed a loud breed, with the tendency to bark at anything. This is a trait that a Mini Goldendoodle could potentially inherit. This could result in your dog sounding the alarm if they notice a squirrel outside, a neighbour arriving at their home, the mailman coming to your door or any unfamiliar noise. F1s are generally known to be more golden retriever looking than other generations of goldendoodles. F1s usually have a straight to wavy coat. As they get older, their coats tend to look more shaggy. F1s may shed. Theodore and his littermates do not shed. Below is a recent picture of Theodore at 9 months old. The coat types vary in appearance but F1bs tend to have a more curly poodle type coat. The F1b should not shed and is a good choice for families who have allergy sufferers or do not want dog hair in the house. One parent must be an F1b or multigen goldendoodle. A poodle bred to a multigen still produces a multigen. Multigens are usually low shedders. The coat types vary from curly to wavy depending on the parents. How did you find Theodore? What advice do you have for finding a breeder? When it comes to finding a breeder the first thing I always tell people is to do your research! Theodore was our first dog and we wanted get our first dog from breeder for temperament and health reasons. GANA breeders pride themselves in the quality of care for their animals and healthy breed lines. My husband Phil and I wanted a dog for a very long time. We waited until we knew we would have the time to dedicate to raising a puppy. I was in my second semester of business school with a very flexible class schedule and Phil knew his work schedule for the next few months would be flexible. Puppies require a lot of time and attention — especially in the first few months and we knew our desire to get a dog aligned with having the time to dedicate to a puppy. Theodore is super sweet and loving to everyone children, animals, strangers and beyond. He is ball obsessed, plays very well with other dogs, loves giving kisses and wrestling. He is energetic and playful but equally affectionate and cuddly. If I am sitting on the floor, he will always come over to sit in my lap. He is very smart — he knows how to manipulate us for playtime or cuddles on demand. He is attentive to anything we do — if we are coughing or trip he will look concerned, come over and start licking us. Phil and I love him to pieces! With lots of treats, positive reinforcement and love. Theodore was food motivated and very eager to please which helped us train him relatively quickly. It was my favorite dog training book and I highly recommend it. The author uses positive reinforcement training techniques, has a plethora of experience and was responsible for training Sunny and Bo Obama. We brought Theodore home when he was 8. Our vet told us that socializing Theodore early on was important for his development so we made it a priority. We made a big effort to schedule several indoor play dates with immunized dogs we knew in our building during his first few weeks at home. We transitioned him off of pee pads once we our vet said it was safe to take him outside. He was fully potty trained by 5 months old. Did you work with a trainer? When Theodore was older, we did a few lessons to correct some habits like jumping on people, stealing objects and improve leash walking. She is wonderful with dogs and helps solve the problem you are having very quickly. How did you get him to like his crate? When we brought Theodore home, we placed his crate in our bedroom in a spot where he could see us when he was sleeping. We got this Precision wire crate in a size intermediate — 36 x 23 x 25 up to 70lbs he could grow into and we used the divider while he was potty training. Dogs enjoy a cave-like atmosphere and feel safe when their crate is enclosed. We covered the top and sides of his crate with a light blanket, leaving the front open for airflow. He hated his crate and cried. As a dog parent, it breaks your heart to see them crying. My husband slept on the floor with Theodore the first night and then after that we fully committed to getting Theodore adjusted to the crate. The advice we were given was to make the crate a place where exciting things were happening. We would give him lots of treats and praise as he went to his crate at night. We also put one of our t-shirts in the crate so our smell would be close. Before leaving the house, we would always give him a high value treat ex. Over the next few weeks he began to love his crate. By four months he was adjusted to his crate, never barked, cried or protested going in. Once it was clear he was happy in the crate, we began to let him sleep on the floor of our bedroom. We still crate him whenever we leave the house. Note — Never use the crate as a form of punishment. This will cause your puppy to fear the crate and you want your puppy to feel the crate is a place of peace. Can I Have a Treat Please? What funny things does Theodore do? There is never a shortage of things to laugh about with Theodore. Lately, he has become obsessed with fall. Oftentimes, when he sees fall leaves, he will nose dive into the leaves, chew them and then proceed to blissfully roll around in them. Theodore 9 Months Old Has Theodore changed since you got him? Theodore has not changed much! He has always had a huge appetite, wonderful temperament and lots of energy. The only change I have noticed is that his coat is darker. His coat is now a deeper golden while his belly is still light golden. If you look at his 7 week old puppy headshot at the beginning of this article, you can see how much lighter he was. It is so cute — our little ombre boy! So many families were trying to avoid shedding coats and the Goldendoodle was proving to fill that need. We started this venture with a mini Poodle instead of a toy Poodle as we felt that was the best step in downsizing to achieve the mini Goldendoodle dog breed. Our goal was to create adult Goldendoodles with the average weight of about 35 lb. Our first litter arrived on January 11, providing us with 5 males and 5 females, all with wavy coats. This litter was an F1 litter , but was the beginning of the many future generations of Goldendoodles and the foundation for the multigen Goldendoodle. I am so glad to hear that her siblings are healthy and doing well. She was the runt of the litter, so proof that runts are healthy dogs! Buddy Buddy is a treasured member of our family. He still plays like a puppy, he loves the snow, playing fetch, and a good romp in the surf at the beach. Everyone who meets Buddy falls in love with him and he is known town wide as he spends hours siting in our driveway, butt to butt with our other dog, Scout, watching the cars go by. He enjoys hiking though all seasons and is a great trailblazer leading the pack with his nose to the ground, stopping at any fork in the trail to be told which direction to continue in. Many times he will fall asleep with it under his paw. Casey has some funny and entertaining quirks that make me laugh out loud. He loves digging in the sand at beaches and on every July 4th he hides in the bathtub during the fireworks as loud noises scare him. Pebbles I have lots of dogs being a breeder. She produced 3 litters before retiring from breeding. She is my constant companion and seems to read my mind. All the other dogs have learned that when Pebbles says it is time for a bath, they have to drop whatever they are doing and let her clean their eyes and ears.
