Wag suggest that Goberians will usually have a rounded head in proportion to his body and ears that hang down, while his body will typically resemble that of a Golden Retriever but his legs and tail will appear more like that of a Husky. Goberians tend to be social dogs that like to be around people, especially members of their family. Really a perfect mix of Goldens and Huskies. He is extremely talkative, loves to howl and moan at us all day, especially at ambulances. He is obsessed with the snow and tries to bury his whole face in it anytime he gets. We are fortunate to have a good mix of the best bits of the two breeds combined in Sully. We soon realised that he moderates his behaviour around children and tends to just roll over for tickles, which kids love. They can have slightly different physical and personality characteristics. He has piercing blue eyes, a long curly tail, black and white coat, and thick tough paws. It is only when I see him standing next to a Golden that I realize the similarity in body type. Also, he is always smiling and has floppy ears, which he certainly gets from his golden half. Hudson has to be near humans at all time and loves to shove a tennis ball in your lap until you submit to play fetch. He is a social chameleon though. When playing with a Husky, he adapts to their mouthy neck biting play style, and with goldens he flops around on the ground and lays belly up! Sully I have to lean quite heavily towards the Husky side for Sully. Kona konathegoldenhusky highlighted a stubborn streak that is something often attributed to the Husky breed. I think most of the time we see a pretty even mix between the two breeds, but at times she might show more Golden traits. She is a very social, gentle, and affectionate dog and will always seek out attention from anybody around, which probably comes from the Golden Retriever side of her. This probably comes from her Husky side. We can take a look at how our three Goberian dog owners tire their dogs out. High [exercise needs] … very high. He is the mix of two very active breeds and requires roughly miles per day. Thankfully, he is a very social dog and can get a large amount of his energy out at the dog park. In addition, he loves to be offleash in Central Park. His recall is temperamental. He displays the husky stubbornness every now and then. We are able to stick to a good, regular routine with his exercise fortunately as his dad loves outdoor time. Unsurprisingly he enjoys 7 — 9 miles over 3 walks on an average day, more at weekends if we head out to countryside, though I think he would be fine with less. No looking back! Are Goberian Hard To Train? Siberian Huskies can be a little trickier. With an independent streak, some Siberian Huskies can prove difficult to train. Goberians are likely to be smart dogs but they could also inherit this stubborn streak from their Husky parent. They are extremely intelligent. Not hard to teach them commands, however they are not extremely food motivated and tend to be a bit stubborn. If you find toys or balls to get his interest, you are in the clear. The largest challenge has been walk training. They are truly built to pull, so it takes some time to teach them how to walk side by side as companions. He is smart. Super smart. And equally as stubborn! Teaching all the early basics was straight forward and he was potty trained in the first week at home. I think with the right training method and lots of patience you could teach them almost anything. Kona konathegoldenhusky required time to adapt to potty training. It was actually pretty easy! She is an extremely smart dog so she was able to quickly pick up on most things. Kona is also very food-motivated, which definitely made the training easier. I think the hardest part of her training was the potty training. Golden Retrievers are perhaps the quintessential family dog thanks to their goofy but loving personalities. Siberian Huskies are active dogs that like to be around their owners. Therefore, Goberians are perfectly-suited to active, young families. Extremely [family friendly]. Loves children and babies and is very delicate. He once passed a toddler and made sure to give them a gentle kiss on the face as he passed by. As with all breeds early introduction and setting boundaries plays a major part and he now sees everyone as a potential playmate, probably a bit too trusting at times! Kona is a very loving and social dog, but is also extremely loyal and protective. I think the Golden Husky breed combines excellent traits from both breeds that can lead to a great family dog. Some of the symptoms of separation anxiety include barking, howling, whining, chewing, digging or even defecating inside the home. We have a doggy cam and he now just snoozes. He allows us to willingly leave him at groomers etc without fuss so his anxiety levels appear low as he trusts us to come back. Are Goberian Fussy Eaters? Sully developed fussy eating habits from around 7 months old, around the same time he realised he could manipulate us with a bit of strong will as his preference was, and will probably always remain, bits of human food. More often than not a treat will just bounce off his head or he spits them out! So you may find it hard to unearth a Goberian breeder. Alternatively, you may find a Golden Retriever Siberian Husky mix at your local rescue shelter. Having said that, here is some advice from our dog owners for anyone looking to get a Goberian of their own! If you're reading this and wondering if there is another reason then just our love of animals for rescuing. Well, yes there is. We are breeders. Despite any bad press, breeders are part of the solution to neglected animals. We don't have puppies for fun or accident, that we hope our family, friends, or people at our local grocery store will take off our hands. We are the opposite of that. We spend most of our time speaking, emailing and texting families that are looking for a pet. We educate them, screen them for pet adoption, and support them once they do adopt. We are being responsible for the types of dogs we are breeding by selecting healthy, gentle, intelligent parents for our puppies. Our entire life is finding better ways to be good breeders and helping our families be good pet owners. With all this in mind, we believe that offering rescuing services will ensure none of our puppies we've placed in the world will ever end up in a kill shelter. We want to be the kind of breeder that supports our families for life. As a result, our families can call us and say they just can't keep their pet, for whatever reason, and we will come and get the dog. The first thing we do is have the owner explain everything about the pet they are giving up. We then bring that dog into our home and evaluate it's condition and get a game plan and timeline for finding it's new home. We are committed to keeping that dog for weeks or months until it's ready for adoption. We put that dog on our dog schedule; we do additional training; we crate train in our home; we have it sleep in our room at night for it to bond with us and see that this is it's home, and we bring it around town to socialize, socialize, socialize. Once that dog is ready to be adopted we post photos, a description, or both on our site and in advertising. Now, this rescuing isn't something new for us. As a child, I brought every stray animal home and nurtured it back to health and found it a home. I remember in college finding a stray dog with puppies behind our apartment complex with less than five dollars till the end of the week and no gas in my car. So, I asked a friend for a ride to the grocery store and posted a sign that I found a stray dog with puppies on the community board with my phone number. Next, I stood in the pet food isle and asked people if they would mind contributing a dollar so I could feed this skinny mommy so she could make milk for her puppies. A mean guy said he would get me a garbage bag to just dump them into. Well, I started balling. When he said that I freaked out that someone could even think that. I felt broken seeing this malnourished dog struggling with her puppies. I saw a person in there, a mom. Needless to say the man felt so bad when he saw me fall to pieces he handed me a twenty dollar bill. As I kept crying I thanked him and got food and some milk. I didn't know then that milk probably wasn't the best for this mommy dog. When I got back to my apartment I snuck the dog in and fed it warm milk and made a home for her and her puppies. No animals were allowed at our complex. Two of the puppies didn't make it and I was devastated. A friend came over and the mommy dog barked and really got protective so I really was getting stressed out about having this dog but I just couldn't put her outside. Luckily, a wonderful, beautiful lady called me that was a rescuer. She understood I was just a poor college student with limited resources. Two days later she arrived to pick up this dog. She said she would have the dog at her ranch until it was in better health then she would find it a home. Around a month later I received photos in the mail. The mommy stray and her three puppies found homes. One other thing, my apartment suddenly had flees and I had very upset roommates.Through this experience I learned a very important lesson, I could do something about another living thing struggling. I may have needed some financial help but all I had to do was ask. It's a fact that working together, placing an ad, asking for a donation, and doing the best I could do was good enough and that work helped get those dogs a home. Miracles happen, they really do. We are on some doodle rescue lists and many vets and shelters have our number. Many of our rescues have come from word of mouth. When we receive a rescue we do quarantine them from our doodles for a minimum of three weeks then do thorough testing for diseases before they come to our home. We typically work with a rescue for three to six months or as long as it takes. Next, is our re-homed doodles. Per our contract, we require all our adopting families, that can no longer care for their doodle, to return them to us for placement. A doodle can be returned for numerous reasons but in most cases that doodle is just too much for their adopting family. As a result, we occasionally have doodles available as re-homes. We always get a second and third opinion from outside trainers and behaviorists with every incoming dog. These evaluations are very informal and are more for the safety of our family and our doodles. We do not provide extensive reports, clinical diagnosis or professional evaluations. Instead, we use all the information we've collected and we work with each doodle until we can see they are ready for their forever home. Each of the doodles we offer are dogs I can and would live with myself. Now, I've been bitten numerous times, I've always had dogs, I've always rescued dogs and I'm quite experienced with dogs. With that said, I do not believe rescues or re-homes are appropriate for families with children and I prefer dogs with questionable pasts to go to families that are experienced with owning a dog. We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! To begin with, the puppies have plenty of room to move but they grow fast and as the time for birth draws near they are packed in quite tightly. The one week old puppy Your puppy is born fully furred but with his eyes and ears closed so he cannot hear or see. His front feet are strong and he can pull himself towards his mother with them. He can cry if he is uncomfortable and his mother will respond to his cries by moving him towards her and licking him. Your puppy spends most of his time sleeping or suckling. He cannot regulate his own body temperature and needs his mother for heat, or an artificial heat source. In the first week to ten days of his life your puppy grows rapidly and will double his birth weight. His forelegs are getting much stronger. My 34 year old son Tim passed away Sept 17, , from complications of a double lung transplant due to his diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis in January, .Needless to say it was a nightmare. Tim has two children ages 17 and 12 that now spend countless hours with my husband, myself and our doodles! During the long periods of Tim's hospital stays, we were fortunate enough to meet a beautiful labradoodle. Generally dogs are not allowed on the hospital transplant floors, but because we are such dog lovers as well as the severity of Tim's illness we were allowed canine visits. The minute I saw him, I was hooked head over heels in love with the breed. After Tim's passing I experienced a loneliness like never before. However, in the back of my head I could almost hear the calling to learn more about this breed.
